  • I'm using a compatible active DisplayPort to DVI adapter with EyeFinity, why does my monitor still flicker?

    I specifically chose an active DisplayPort <- DVI adapter for use with EyeFinity right out of my graphic card vendor's list of confirmed compatible adapters. Yet the screen fails horribly, it blinks on and off constantly, sometimes the graphics go screwy and the appropriate resolutions won't be available. Sometimes the resolution will be available but I'll discover it's only with interlaced refresh rates and bounces up and down. I have to switch the resolution back and forth, again and again, to get it to work correctly, and then it fails again and the process must be repeated the moment the monitor is turned off or I reboot. It's maddening. What is wrong? Is my GFX card supplying insufficient voltage? (Firmware tweaks allegedly help some people, but my card's isn't modifiable.) Could the adapter be defective? Is it not "active" enough for my card and I need an expensive powered adapter? Is this endemic to DisplayPort in general?

  • Why does Windows Firewall show "Unidentified network" as one of my "Active public networks"?

    I have a machine that has wifi and ethernet. I have wifi active, and am not using ethernet. My Windows firewall shows two active networks, one is the wifi network I connect to, and the other is "Unidentified network". What is this unidentified network? I can't seem to be able to get rid of it because I can't find where it is even defined. How can you detect this and know whether this is just something appropriate or possibly a security problem? I am on Windows 7 64bit.

  • How to block this URL pattern in Varnish VCL?

    My website is getting badly hit by spambots and scrappers, I am using Cloudflare but the problem still remains there. The problem is spambots accessing non-existing urls causing a lot of load to my drupal backend which goes all the way and bootstraps db just to serve a 404 error doc. I cant simply dish out non-drupal 404's for all page not found errors, as I need to have drupal catch them. Since, varnish is in front it can check if the bot is acting nice and asking for valid url - if not it servers them a 404 or 403.   • Trying to figure Windows 2008 Server and Active Directory - complete novice!

    I am a novice in networking and I want to learn more about Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory. Basically I have serveral Windows 7 PC's in my home and an IBM server with Win Server 2008 installed. I have enabled Active Directory and set the server to have a static IP. Thats as far as I have got and I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment as I am not sure what to do next. What I eventually want to do is have the Windows 7 PC's to be able to be authenticated by the server - basically a mock up of what most large or medium sized businesses/organisations run. Sorry if I sound a bit sketchy, but I understand some things but not the whole picture, I guess I just need confirmation that I am sort of on the right track :) Also what are some good resources out there you can point me to, what are the absolute basics I need to to get started so I can further my learning?

  • Is there an application that will move an active window to the system tray without minimizing it

    I have an active application (lets say an instant messaging client) whose buddy list I have up (active) on one side of my screen at all times in Windows 7. I would like to remove that icon from the taskbar either by moving it to the system tray (as happens when the app is minimized) or by just removing it altogether. To be clear: I do not want to minimize the window to the system tray (as described in Windows app to hide application from taskbar) I want to keep the window its NORMAL size and location and just get rid of the taskbar icon for the app. I'm looking for any tool, third party, native, registry hack, to accomplish this.

  • How do I force an exchange database to become "active"?

    We had a catastrophic failure where all that remains is a single edb file. No backups. No log files. The database that remains is on the "passive" copy. The "active" copy is missing, but the server is active. The Exchange console reports that the edb file needs to be reseeded, however there is no source to reseed from. How do I make the "invalid" database file (missing logs) valid? How do I make exchange recognize this as a valid database to use as a primary?

  • Is using jquery to call a WCF Data Service from the UI violating the MVC pattern.

    I'm fairly new to ASP.Net MVC 2 and understand the MVC pattern in itself. But my question is what's the best way to populate dropdownlists in the UI sticking to the MVC pattern. Should I be going through the controller? Every article I've seen to do this shows how to do it using javascript and jquery. I have a test application that I'm re-writing in MVC2 I have my dropdowns working with jquery basically calling a WCF Data Service that returns JSON which populates the dropdowns. Seems to me though that this is bypassing the controller and going straight to the model therefore strictly violating the MVC pattern. Or am I missing something obvious here. You thoughts or best practices would be greatly welcome here. Thanks

  • Should I use the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern in Silverlight projects?

    One challenge with Silverlight controls is that when properties are bound to code, they're no longer really editable in Blend. For example, if you've got a ListView that's populated from a data feed, there are no elements visible when you edit the control in Blend. I've heard that the MVVM pattern, originated by the WPF development community, can also help with keeping Silverlight controls "blendable". Now I need some kind of mechanism that notifies my application each time the active x component has crashed or does not respond any more (due to dead lock or infinite loop). (1) can easily been done by watching the external process of the active x component. But maybe there is a more elegant approach? But how can (2) be implemented?

    Hello everyone! I'm trying to create annual, all-day events with VBA in outlook 2007. I use the following code, but no matter which conbination of Start, StartDate, End, etc I use, it won't create a whole-day event. Either it gives it default start/end times, or it remove the all-day attribute... Dim Birthday As Date 'Get the birthday '... Yet trying to set Start and End this way results in errors. Plus, entries created outlook have no start/end time in the recurrence pattern (well, they are all-day entries...) Ideas, anybody? Thanks!

    Hello! I have made a menu that adds class "active" on hover to each li, and removes the class when hovered out, except on li s that has a class "active" already. So far, this is done. However I have another .click() on every li that loads a content to somewhere with ajax. The problem starts here, when I click, I want to add class "active" to clicked element and remove class from all of them. I add the class, but the li that had class "active" before the click doesn't get "active" when hovered, I think the "active" class is not removed from it?     I have a problem that I can't seem to solve. We have a Ubuntu server setup with RAID-10 and two of the drives dropped out of the array. I want to get rid of raid/r1 completely. However, the controller was already set to "IDE" mode in the BIOS. So why it is creating a raid volume??? I have also tried overwritting the first 16k data of ada3 and reboot the computer, but it did not help.   • Twitter bootstrap + asp.net masterpages, how to set navbar item as active when user selects it?

    We are in se same situation as question Make Twitter Bootstrap navbar link active, but in our case we are using ASP.net and MasterPages... The thing is the navbar is defined at the masterpage and when you click a menuitem you are redirected to the corresponding child page so how would you do to change the navbar active item consecuently without replicating the logic in each child page? (Preferably without session variables and javascript only at master page)

  • Does my fat-client application belong in the MVC pattern?

    The web-based application I’m currently working on is growing arms and legs! It’s basically an administration system which helps users to keep track of bookings, user accounts, invoicing etc. It can also be accessed via a couple of different websites using a fairly crude API. The fat-client design loosely follows the MVC pattern (or perhaps MVP) with a php/MySQL backend, Front Controller, several dissimilar Page Controllers, a liberal smattering of object-oriented and procedural Models, a confusing bunch of Views and templates, some JavaScripts, CSS files and Flash objects. The programmer in me is a big fan of the principle of “Separation of Concerns” and on that note, I’m currently trying to figure out the best way to separate and combine the various concerns as the project grows and more people contribute to it. The problem we’re facing is that although JavaScript (or Flash with ActionScript) is normally written with the template, hence part of the View and decoupled from the Controller and Model, we find that it actually encompasses the entire MVC pattern... Swap an image with an onmouseover event - that’s Behaviour. Render a datagrid - we’re manipulating the View. Send the result of reordering a list via AJAX - now we’re in Control. Check a form field to see if an email address is in a valid format - we’re consulting the Model. Is it wise to let the database people write up the validation Model with jQuery? Can the php programmers write the necessary Control structures in JavaScript? Can the web designers really write a functional AJAX form for their View? Should there be a JavaScript overlord for every project? If the MVC pattern could be applied to the people instead of the code, we would end up with this: Model - the database boffins - “SELECT * FROM mind WHERE interested IS NULL” Control - pesky programmers - “class Something extends NothingAbstractClass{…}” View - traditionally the domain of the graphic/web designer - “” …and a new layer: Behaviour - interaction and feedback designer - “CSS3 is the new black…” So, we’re refactoring and I’d like to stick to best practice design, but I’m not sure how to proceed. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, so would anyone have any hints or tips as to what pattern I should be looking at or any code samples from someone who’s already done the dirty work? As the programmer guy, how can I rewrite the app for backend and front end whilst keeping the two separate? And before you ask, yes I’ve looked at Zend, CodeIgnitor, Symfony, etc., and no, they don’t seem to cross the boundary between server logic and client logic!

  • NSScrollView - pattern background - how to start from top-left corner?

    To fill NSScrollview with pattern image I use - (void)setBackgroundColor:(NSColor *)aColor method where aColor is created with + (NSColor *)colorWithPatternImage:(NSImage *)image method. Despite of what isFlipped returns for NSScrollView and its content view, pattern start repeat from bottom-left corner while I want it to start from top-left corner. How can I achieve that?
