• Why my /usr/share/file/magic is not found, in PHP at CentOS?

• nautilus crash when merging/overwriting files

  On my Ubuntu 10.10, whenever I want to copy some files/folders over some other files/folders, or when I try to empty the trash, nautilus crashes! Example: I have a folder with some files. Now I want to overwrite this folder with a folder with the same name, same files, but some additional files, the merge window comes up, I choose merge and nautilus crashes (does not respond, when I press the close button I can force close it). Some times it even does the copying/emptying (trash), but it always crashes! This happens when copying to the same partition/ntfs partition/netshares, but not when I make a new folder and copy the files/folders into that (without overwriting anything). On a netshare, it's even possible to merge these files afterwards with another computer! dmesg/syslog/messages does not show any entry related to that problem. Does anyone have a solution for this very annoying problem? EDIT: dpkg -l nautilus* (see output in pastebin) EDIT2: I found out, nautilus already crashes before clicking replace/merge (as soon as the question appeares. In the video it's not entirely clear, that i click the cross before the force-close dialog appeares. • Burg Custom Icons work only with specific themes

  I have made a custom icon for burg loader for my Lenovo Recovery Partition.I have made 3 icons : large_qdrive.png (128 X 128 pixels) small_qdrive.png (24 X 24 pixels) grey_qdrive.png (128 x 128 pixels) The .png icons that I created I made them using gimp from a qdrive.ico file that I found in the Lenovo Recovery Partition. I transferred the icons to the /boot/burg/themes/icons folder and I added to the class list of the grey,large,small and the hover files the following lines : -qdrive { image = "$$/large_qdrive.png" } in the large file -qdrive { image = "$$/small_qdrive.png" } in the small file -qdrive { image = "$$/grey_qdrive.png" } in the grey file -qdrive { image = "$$/grey_qdrive.png:$$/large_qdrive.png" } in the hover file I ran sudo update-burg and after that I modified the following line in the burg.cfg file : menuentry "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" --class windows --class os { to menuentry "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" --class qdrive --class os { and I also tried to change the title for the Lenovo Recovery Partition,so I tried this as well: menuentry "Lenovo Recovery Partition (on /dev/sda2)" --class qdrive --class os { None of this tries enforced actually burg loader to use the custom icon that I made and I can't figure out why. I have to mention also that there are a few themes that I have installed in burg which actually are able to use the small_qdrive.png icon that I made,but all the others which use either the large_qdrive.png or the grey_qdrive.png weren't able to use the custom icons. I have double checked for typos in all the files that I have created or I modified,so I am pretty sure that I haven't misspelled anything. I have checked also the title of the custom icons that I made and neither of them have a typo. I have looked also if there are any other folder that the themes might use to retrieve the icons,but it seems that all of them except for **Fortune** theme,which I downloaded from OMG!UBUNTU,use the icons folder which is located in /boot/burg/themes/icons I tried to add the custom icons to the icons folder of the theme **Fortune**,but still nothing happened.

• Why does a zip file appear larger than the source file especially when it is text?

  I have a text file that is 19 bytes in size and having compressed the file using zip and 7zip, it appears to be larger. I had a read of the question on Why is a 7zipped file larger than the raw file? as well as Why doesn't ZIP Compression compress anything? but considering the file is not already compressed I would have expected further compression. Attached is a screenshot. EDIT0 I took the example further by creating a file that contained random data as follows dd if=/dev/urandom of=sample.log bs=1G count=1 and attempted to compress the file using both zip and 7zip however there were no compression gains. Why is that?

• What are the hard and fast rules for Cache Control?

  Confession: sites I maintain have different rules for Cache Control mostly based on the default configuration of the server followed up with recommendations from the Page Speed & Y-Slow Firefox plug-ins and the Network Resources view in Google's Speed Tracer. Cache-Control is set to private/public depending on what they say to do, ETag's/Last-Modified headers are only tinkered with if Y-Slow suggests there is something wrong and Vary-Accept-Encoding seems necessary when manually gziping files for Amazon CloudFront. When reading through the material on the different options and what they do there seems to be conflicting information, rules for broken proxies and cargo cult configurations. Any of the official information provided by the analysis tools mentioned above is quite inaccessible as it deals with each topic individually instead of as a unified strategy (so there is no cross-referencing of techniques). For example, it seems to make no sense that the speed analysis tools rate a site with ETag's the same as a site without them if they are meant to help with caching. What are the hard and fast rules for a platform agnostic Cache Control strategy? EDIT: A link through Jeff Atwood's article explains Caching in superb depth. For the record though here are the hard and fast rules: If the file is Compressed using GZIP, etc - use "cache-control: private" as a proxy may return the compressed version to a client that does not support it (the browser cache will hold files marked this way though). Also remember to include a "Vary: Accept-Encoding" to say that it is compressible. Use Last-Modified in conjunction with ETag - belt and braces usage provides both validators, whilst ETag is based on file contents instead of modification time alone, using both covers all bases. NOTE: AOL's PageTest has a carte blanche approach against ETags for some reason. If you are using Apache on more than one server to host the same content then remove the implicitly declared inode from ETags by excluding it from the FileETag directive (i.e. "FileETag MTime Size") unless you are genuinely using the same live filesystem. Use "cache-control: public" wherever you can - this means that proxy servers (and the browser cache) will return your content even if the rest of the page needs HTTP authentication, etc.

• User accounts in FTP

  I have an FTP server(proftpd on debian) that I'm going to allow a couple friends access to, and I want some safety nets in place, just in case. These are some of the things I'd like to do: Jail the accounts to their home directories and impose a cap on the amount of data they can upload Allow them access to a shared folder(via symlink or something) where they have full access(Also with a storage cap, but larger) Allow my own account full access to the system(Using groups I guess) Not allow anonymous access, or allow it with its own folder, separate from the shared user folder Currently, I've got the accounts set up and jailed, but it seems like the symlink that I put in is not allowing them to visit the shared folder. I suppose this has to do with them not having read permissions anywhere but their own home directories, or maybe it's something else, I'll continue to look into it and provide any information that is requested. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Any tips or resources that you can share are appreciated. Thanks.

• Apache permission Problems

  Ok all my files and folders are set as owner of vsftpd:nogroup. FTP program can upload and create and do everything. But when I use the PHP command mkdir, I get a Permission Denied even though the folder its creating it in is set to chmod 777. IF i set the base folder to user www-data and group www-data, PHP mkdir will work. However, I can't use FTP to delete or upload to that folder. /uploads is base folder. I use PHP mkdir to create a directory in there: if (!is_dir($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . "/uploads/" . $_REQUEST['clientID'] . '/video/')) { @mkdir($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . "/uploads/" . $_REQUEST['clientID'] . '/video/', 0777); } If /uploads is vsftpd:nogroup then PHP mkdir will give a Permission Denied error. If /uploads is www-data:www-data then PHP mkdir WILL work, but I cant continue to FTP anything in that folder that was just created. If /uploads is vsftpd:www-data then PHP mkdir will give a Permission Denied error. How can I create a directory with PHP and still be able to access it via FTP?

  We're in the process of migrating from Novell Netware to Windows 2K8 R2 infrastructure (AD, File server, print server... etc) My question is about ACL. While Netware and Windows are totally different, I want to be sure my thnking is good before screwing everything up! There's a scenario : F: | +-- DATA <= Shared as DATA with Access based enumeration | +-- Folder 1 +-- Team 1's Folder +-- Team 2's Folder ... In that case, by default, rights are herited from the F: to the deepest folders. What we want : Administrators group have full control top - down. From DATA, ABE list only folders that users have access. (ex. : I'm in group Team 2, I see Team 2's Folder). From what I understand, at DATA I remove all NTFS ACL to be herited (ex. Users Group), be sure to keep Administrators Group and SYSTEM user. After that, grant Full control (or any right needed) on each folder to Groups or Users that have to have access. Does I'm wrong ? Anything I should take care of ? Any help to my understanding will be very appreciated. Regards.

  I have a LAMP server (Ubuntu 12.10) setup on my development machine. It is a T60 modified with an SSD. The server base is in /var/www. The folder for the server is /var/www/sfk/. The framework and all cms relavant features are in their respective folders. The only folder that need to be modified would be the /var/www/sfk/mysite folder. Because of that I want to keep the mysite folder under my home directory and symlink it into the server folder. I am storing my conversation history from Communicator in Exchange in the default folder, "Conversation History". I'm using the conversation view in Outlook. And I have a Gmail-like macro to archive my conversations to an "Archive" folder. I want to search all my mail and conversations at once. By default, Outlook is searching in the current folder only. I tried creating a rule to move the conversations to my Archive folder, but couldn't configure it correctly.

  Hello, I have two folders such as nonserved/ folder1/ folder2/ and a served folder via Apache media/ js/ css/ img/ In the end, I want to include/append contents of /nonserved to /media so that www.mysite.com/media will be as such: /media /js /css /img /folder1 /folder2 I am running Ubuntu Server, I am up for either apache config or symbolic link based answer :) Plus nonserved folder is rather dynamic thus manual symbolic linking to each folder is impossible.

• How can one tell that FLAC or WAVPACK audio file is NOT originally encoded from a Lossy source?

  Hi everyone, Forgive me for my ignorance,firstly. Problem: Say I have a lossy mp3 audio file(5.17Mb ie. 87% compressed from its original souce-unknown), I then encode it to another LOSSLESS format, say FLAC or WAVPACK. The size increases(23.14Mb ie. 39% compressed from its original souce-mp3)! ID tags, etc remain the same and there's no way of checking the integrity of its origin. Question: Is there a way of checking that the so-called FLAC or WAVPACK audio file was originally encoded from a LOSSLESS source(wav,cda,ape,...etc) instead of a LOSSY source(mp3,aac,ATRAC,..etc) Thank you. • Can't get samba to see other PCs in Kubuntu 10.04 (Lucid)

  I'm new to networking. I'm trying to share a folder between to computers (both have kubuntu 10.04 installed). I'm able to share a folder with samba and can see that folder through samba on the same computer. But if I try to go on the other PC I can't see the first one. Both PCs are on the "workgroup" workgroup. I've tried disabling the firewall with firestarter can somebody help me? thanks

• SQL Server NETWORK SERVICE account permissions

  My SQL Server Windows service is set to use the NETWORK SERVICE account. The server is installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL. However looking at the permissions on that folder, NETWORK SERVICE does not have any permissions. The groups which are allowed access to that folder are... CREATOR OWNER - who is this? SYSTEM - sounds fine - so that Windows can access the folder I presume? SQLServerMSSQLUser$Computer_Name$MSSQLSERVER - this is the interesting one - what is this? Administrators Users If NETWORK SERVICE is a user with minimal permissions on the system and looks to the O/S as someone connecting from a network how does it have permissions to access any files in the SQL Server install folder?   I'm working with general purpose image rendering, and high-performance image processing, and so I need to know how to store bitmaps in-memory. (24bpp/32bpp, compressed/raw, etc) I'm not working with 3D graphics or DirectX / OpenGL rendering and so I don't need to use graphics card compatible bitmap formats. My questions: What is the "usual" or "normal" way to store bitmaps in memory? (in C++ engines/projects?) How to store bitmaps for high-performance algorithms, such that read/write times are the fastest? (fixed array? with/without padding? 24-bpp or 32-bpp?) How to store bitmaps for applications handling a lot of bitmap data, to minimize memory usage? (JPEG? or a faster [de]compression algorithm?) Some possible methods: Use a fixed packed 24-bpp or 32-bpp int[] array and simply access pixels using pointer access, all pixels are allocated in one continuous memory chunk (could be 1-10 MB) Use a form of "sparse" data storage so each line of the bitmap is allocated separately, reusing more memory and requiring smaller contiguous memory segments Store bitmaps in its compressed form (PNG, JPG, GIF, etc) and unpack only when its needed, reducing the amount of memory used. Delete the unpacked data if its not used for 10 secs.

  Hi, I need to schedule a task in Windows Server 2003 that executes this script that deletes files older that n days in the specified folder. The script needs 3 parameters: %1 path to folder where files need to be deleted %2 file names (es. *.log) %3 number of days @echo off forfiles -p %1 -s -m %2 -d -%3 -c "cmd /c del /q @path" The script works fine if the first parameter has no spaces inside. This is an example of parameters that work: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" N:\FOLDER\FOLDER *.zip 60 This is an example that does not work: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" N:\Program Files\LOG *.zip 60 This does not work too: "C:\Program Files\SCRIPT\DeleteFilesOlderThanXDays.cmd" "N:\Program Files\LOG" *.zip 60 I think it would be a quotes problem but I can't figure out the solution. • Moving multiple folders all at once in Outlook

  Constantly at my shop, we are moving Outlook (or other email program) files between computers or Windows Installations, and sometimes, people have HUNDREDS of folders. Is there a quick way to move ALL the folders from multiple data files (*.PST) into one single file, without dragging each and every folder? No, I don't want to move the Inbox folder into the other Inbox folder for the quick move, I want something simple like selecting all folders and moving that way. Does such a method exist in any version of Outlook?

• Sharing Windows Folders on a Network... other PCs see but can't access

  I'm soooo tired of network setup issues. All I want to do is share a folder and all it's sub-folders so other PCs on my network can view and change this remote location. Why is it that setting a dir to "shared" doesn't actually make it usable in any way? The other PC can see the fodler but is unable to actually open it and look inside. It seems every time I want to do this I go through some semi-random process of right clicking the folder and enabling sharing, then looking in the folder properties to add permissions and other sharing... and then I end up with some folders working but others will randomly block permission on certain files or sub-dirs. I have 5 PCs in my local testing network and I cannot believe it should be this complicated... where is the simple "make this folder work on the network" option?! I have a mixture of XP, Vista & W7 machines, but this seems common to all of them.

• Rar.exe CLI - add files from directory without directory structure?

  I need to grab every file in a folder and shove it into a RAR archive. This is my current method: "C:\Program Files\WinRAR\Rar.exe" a -r -md2m -s -m5 -ma4 -t ..\Releases\vCommands.rar bin\ ... Where bin is my folder. I tried this too, even though it is for another program, and the results are the same. To be clear, here's a picture: To the top-left, in the .rar file, there is the bin directory which contains all the files. To the bottom-right, in the .7z file, all those files are in the archive root. What I need is shoving all those files in the .rar archive root, instead of a folder, without having to execute my batch file inside that bin folder.

• how to use webdav with netbeans?

  i have a server i save a lot of files, i wonder how i use webdav with netbeans. eg. import a webdav folder edit the php files and save it the new changes apply immediately on the web server (cause the webdav folder is the same as the apache web root folder) i think this is a very smart solution so that you can change the website immediately, without having to download, change and upload. anyone that knows how to accomplish this? (feel free to propose other quick solutions for how to do quick edits)
