  Right now I have an excel spreadsheet. In Cells A1 and down I have cities listed. In Cells B1 and down I have some generic information with the word CITY in it. What I want to know if there is a formula to replace the word CITY that is in the contents of Cell B1 with the contents in Cell A1. For instance... Cell A1 has "Daytona Beach, FL" Cell B1 has "Compare mortgage & refinance rates from different mortgage lenders and brokers in CITY. Find the home refinance rate you were looking for in CITY." I need a formula that replaces "CITY" in B1 with "Dayton Beach, FL" in A1. Is this possible? Thank you for your help!

• Best practice to create an ftp administrator account on vsftpd

  Background: My manager would like me to create an administration account for out FTP server. When logged in via ftp, it should instantly display all of the home directories of the users, and be able to modify any directory or file in any way possible. What would be the best way to go about this? I planned on chrooting this ftp admin to /home, but I don't know how to properly go about the permissions. Maybe make a group called ftp_admins, and chgrp the /home folder? But then wouldn't it affect the users accessing their folders? any help is appreciated.

• Windows script to create directories of 3,000 files

  We have some email archiving that is dumping all the emails into a directory. Because of some performance reasons with the server, I want to setup an automated task that will run a script once a day and if there is more than 3,000 (or whatever number) of files in the main directory, create a new directory with the date and move all the main directory files into it. I'm sure someone has already written something similar, so if anyone could point me at it that would be great. Batch file or Powershell would both be fine.

• Excel Extending Equations

  So I have an excel table that is multiply 1 value against several other values. It looks like this: So I want the equations inside cells C14 to F14 to be B14*C5, B14*C6, B14*C7, B14*C8 respectively. So I can obviously do that manually but I want to learn the faster way. So I know I should use absolute reference for B14, so I can input =$B$14*C5 for cell C14. But then when I do the CTRL extend method where you put the cursor on the bottom right corner of the cell and hold CTRL while you extend the cells. The problem is since I am extending the equation in B14 horizontally to F14, it is incrementing the equation horizontally. So the equation in D14 becomes =$B$14*D5 instead of =$B$14*C6. So how exactly do I increment the equation downwards while I extend the equation horizontally?

  I am supposed to go to an interview to a bank for just supporting managers in projects. It's a part-time job and the thing is that bank uses Excel for everything. Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel? I have some books that are around 1000 pages thick but I don't have time and also don't feel like reading everything that's in them.   so I have 3 data sets, which all came from the first data set using the excel program. all consisted of random numbers from =randbetween(0,100) starting from A2:A102 which is 100 integers. for data set b I had to enter=SUM(A2+5) press enter and drag it down to get the integers for cells B2:B102 and for C I had to do multiplication t get it. I did =PRODUCT(A2:A102*5). so everything was taken from data set A. now I did the formulas needed to do sample standard dev and mean(average) . for data set a and b the standard deviations were the same but the mean was larger in data set B of course because I added 5 to each cell in set A. my question is why wouldn't the standard deviation be the same for data set C also? if im using the info from data set A? and how do I calculate the standard deviation (sample) by hand so I can explain why the standard dev doesn't change but the mean does. I don't know what numbers to include in the formula for sample standard deviation.

  I have an Excel workbook with an index page containing a series of images, that are each hyperlinked to different worksheets. Can anybody suggest how I can publish this to PDF so that the hyperlinks work in the PDF? When I publish or use PDF Factory, the hyperlinks are not preserved (and bookmarks aren't created for that matter either). I would prefer to do this with inbuilt functionality or free tools, though any suggestions welcome. Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be with Excel. Publishing from powerpoint would be almost as good, and failing that, any easy solution which allows me to create a PDF containing clickable images that takes one to internal bookmarks might also be a workaround.

  I am creating a service called TorCompute which allows for creating virtual Tor Hidden Service servers on my infrastructure (I say infrastructure, by that I mean just the 3x 32GB RAM machines waiting to be purchased). What I would like to be able to do is for users to log on, access the web interface and spin up a VM with a variable about of RAM/Disk Space. I've written the PHP for logging in and have a nice web interface, just I need the code to actually create them! How would I go about doing this?   I know how to use a wildcard with Vlookup on the reference value, but what about on the matched column index? I know you can do for instance VLOOKUP("*Hello*",A4:G4,2,FALSE) However, what if you wanted to match a cell that is "Hello", with another one that is "Why, Hello there!" (so the opposite i suppose) My data is set in a way where a macro is going to ask if A4 in workbook 1 matches C2:C25000 in workbook 2 to return the corresponding value in D back to workbook 1. The thought is that when A4 in workbook 1 says Its DHS Here, that I could input a value such as DHS in column C in workbook 2 and have it say its a match. Is this possible?

  I've got a fairly large spreadsheet with major calculations going on, and it's starting to slow down every time a value that's part of a calculated field is modified. I'm in the process of optimizing the file, adding arrays where I can, and seeing where I can shave off a few milliseconds here and there. Let's say there's data in Columns A-H. Column H is set based on relationships between values in Columns A, B and C, which change dynamically from an outside program. Users enter the data in Column F. Formulas in D & E calculate relationships between F & H and H & D, respectively. How does Excel manage formulae in the case, for instance, where they're dependent on data further into the sheet? Will my value in H be available the first time that the formulae in D & E calculate? or, will D & E calculate based on an old value for H, because H's update hasn't happened yet? Are there any efficiencies to be gained by positioning dependencies in particular rows or columns in the speadsheet? Do positions above and left the current position get processed sooner than things below and to the right?

For example, Student K300997203 has a row containing Course FHS120100417, a score of 3, and "Pre" AND Student K300997203 has a row containing Course FHS120100417, a score of 4, and "Post". How can I calculate a cell value as the score in the row containing "Post" minus the score in the row containing "Pre"?

• Cannot create persistent "open with" association for Photoshop CS4

  I'm trying to fix a computer from a friend, which has for some unknonwn reason installed the 64bit and 32bit version of CS4. The 64bit version does not work, the 32bit does. However it seems that the 64bit version was the first installed one, associations to the .psd files are going to the 64bit version. There seems no way to create an association with only the 32bit version. When I select open with` and I browse to the 32bit version and select open, it does not get added to the list of applications? Update: Unfortunately the problem just went away. It's annoying as the root cause is likely never to be found, I'm accepting Fopedush's answer for this "detailness".

  I have a spreadsheet for my budget. Payments are either drawn from my bank or my Amex card and then my Amex card is drawn from my bank as well. So I add up all my monthly total like this: =sumif(I3:I20,"<>AMEX",D3:D20) Where I3:I20 = account bill is paid from and D3:D20 is monthly amount due. So I am not including bills that come from my Amex card in the total since the Amex bill itself covers those. Next I have a column that has the day of the month 1-10 (when everything gets paid) and it does this: =sumif(H3:H20,E24:E33,D3:D20) Where H3:H20 = date bill is paid and E25:E35 = range from 1-10. What I want to do is make this second part do the same check as the first. Something like this: =sumif(H3:H19,E24:E33,IF(I3:I19"<>SPG",D3:D19,0)) But I get error: "Parse error" What am I doing wrong?

  Hi, I have 2 machines. Both running CentOS. Box1 is webserver with apache, php. Box2 is mysql, and file storage. The files will only be accessible from Box1 within the webapp. I'd like to somehow create a symlink or somesuch on box1 to a folder on box2 where uploaded files can be stored and retrieved. Security in mind, what would be the best way to go about linking these 2 boxes up in a transparent (to apache) way? NB: the boxes are connected directly to each other via a crossover cable; no lan access to box2. Much thanks!

  I've tryed to run VM in Xen 4.2 using xl command (for what I get this should be standard toolstack, while xm is deprecated). In this case I've the following configuration file kernel = '/media/home_separata/domU_kernel/boot/vmlinuz-linux' ramdisk = '/media/home_separata/domU_kernel/boot/initramfs-linux.img' name = "domU_Arch_linux" memory = "512" root = '/dev/xvda1 ro' disk = ['file:/media/home_separata/domU_kernel/arch_linux_kernel.img,xvda1,w'] vif = ['mac=aa:::10:11:f1,ip=192.168.0.2,bridge=xenbr0'] when I try to start the virtual machine with xl create it seems it works (it also bring up the vif interfaces) but if I try to connect via xl console it gives an error: xenconsole: Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory the fun fact is that the I've the problem inverse using xend/xm (in that case xend doesn't bring up vif interfaces but activate console). Does anyone have any suggestion?

  For some time now, when buying new computers (laptops in particular) from big name brands-like DELL, HP, TOSHIBA, etc.-most of them come with a "rescue" or "restore" partion instead of installation CD/DVD. Said partitions have everything needed to rebuild the factory installed OS, unfortunately they also include all crapware that the OEM installed on the machine. Is it there a way to custom create such a partition with out all the useless software included?. They seem quite appealing considering they only use about 10GB-20GB of space and offer the pretty much the same functionality as a complete system image/backup.

• Create a super user in MySQL 5.5 not working: Permission denied for root@localhost

  Using CentOS 6, logged in to MySQL as root, entering the command: create user 'user123' identified by 'pass123'; works fine. But when I try and give that user super user privileges with: grant all on *.* to 'user123' identified by 'pass123'; I get the error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Then select * from mysql.user; shows that root has Y in all columns, so should have all privileges. I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me find why root is unable to grant privileges as I can't see why it wouldn't be working. Thanks

  I have downloaded and installed the Windows 8.1 upgrade from the Windows store. The hardware was a 64-bit Toshiba P50 laptop. I need to upgrade a second P50 and wish to do so without another 3.6Gb download (I tried the instructions here but never got the chance to create the installation media, nor was I asked for a product key). I saw mention on superuser of creating USB rescue media after installation and using that to clone the upgrade onto another machine. Is this likely to be a viable option?

  I installed Ubuntu in a VM using VirtualBox, and after a few hours of Googling all the things I had to install and configure for the rest of the environment, I am finally up and running with a Ruby on Rails IDE and have MySql up and running. After I start up the Ubuntu VM, I have to go to a terminal window and do this to start MySql: /etc/init.d/mysql start So that works fine, but, since I am such a GUI person, I’m wondering how I can create an icon on the Ubuntu Desktop that I can click on to launch this command.
