• Retain ViewData when editing variable length list

  I'm editing variable length lists and use ViewData to pass around information for filling a DropDownList. I use the method described here for editing these lists: http://blog.stevensanderson.com/2010/01/28/editing-a-variable-length-list-aspnet-mvc-2-style/ The data for this dropdownlist comes from the database. As the ViewData is not available across requests, I currently do a new query to the database each and every time. This also happens when the ModelState is not valid and the form is redisplayed. Of course, this is less then ideal even for a light-weight query as this one. How can I retain the information from that query across requests as long as the user is editing the page with that variable length list?

  How do you create a lookup column to a Document Library that uses the 'Name' of the document as the lookup value? I found a blog post that recommends adding another custom field like "FileName" and then using a item reciever to populate the custom field with the value from the Name field but that seems cheesy. • Add code to html pages automatically

  I need to add some code to the of several html contained in a folder on my desktop. How can i do that? I am using a prototyping tool (Axure) on Mac and I want to add some html meta tags to the generated pages. These pages can be overwritten every time I generate the prototype. What I need is a sort of script that I can launch after re-generating the prototype, to reinsert the code.   Hi everyone, I've been researching this problem for awhile now and I can't seem to come to a solution, hopefully someone here can help. Currently I'm working with Microsoft SQL server management, I've been trying to do the following: Previously, the old query would just return the results that fit between two dates Heres the previous query: SELECT e.Name, o.StartDate, o.EndDate FROM dbo.Name e, dbo.Date o WHERE where e.Name = o.Name and o.StartDate <= '2010-09-28 23:59:59' and o.EndDate >= '2010-9-28 00:00:00' and e.Name like 'A' Example table that is produced after the query runs (The real table has a lot more rows obviously :P) : Name Start End A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 17:00:00 A 2010-09-28 13:45:00 2010-09-28 18:00:00 A 2010-09-28 08:00:00 2010-09-28 16:00:00 A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 15:30:00 However we need to change this, so that the query does the following: find the dates that intersect for a day x find the dates that don't intersect for a day x I've found a real useful site regarding this http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/egiardina/archive/2008/01/30/check-intersection-of-two-date-ranges-in-sql.aspx However the date to compare against is inputted, mine on the other hand has to all dates that intersect/don't intersect. Since I have 2 animations going, it seems it ignores the .stop(). What can be done to prevent this?   I am trying to take a screenshot of a webView and change it to PDF. I have used this method: http://www.ioslearner.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/HtmlToPdfDemo.zip I mean the code in this project. It works fine for iPad but it doesn't covers full width for iPhone. I have used -sizeThatFits: for the webView, but that gives unreadable images for large html pages. I have searched a lot but all I could find out was in Android.. not iPhone. Please help me.Thanks!

  Hi all, Im my current project we need to interface with sharepoint to store and retrieve various documents. This has previously been done by referencing the Microsoft.Sharepoint dlls directly and going from there. As I don't know a lot about sharepoint yet I have been doing some research. Most of the examples I find actually refer to using the Sharepoint web services themselves (the various vti_bin ones shown in http://www.sharepointmonitor.com/2007/01/sharepoint-web-service/). I cant seem to find the differences in approaches. This current project was written a few years ago so maybe the web services weren't available then? Cheers

• Migrating an Access Database into SharePoint 2007.

  To my surprise and delight I read that an adminsitrator can import (nearly directly) an Access 2007 database into a sharepoint site. Automagically, the database in transformed into lists and views with some table lookup thrown in for good measure. With Access 2007 installed on the client machine, even the forms and what not can still be reused. To me... this sounds to good to be true. Has anyone actually dones this? With all this good news, where is the bad stuff and pitfalls to this. Depending on the size of the database, wouldn't this some how "gum up the works" in the SharPoint database? • No sound after video card replaced (AMD Radeon HD 7770)

  Issue: no sound System: Dual boot Windows 7 (sda) Ubuntu 12.04 (sdb) 2 harddrives Dell XPS 730 Video card: AMD Radeo HD 7770 Diamond Multimedia Sound card: Creative Labs SB X-Fi Additional info: My sound used to work. Then, my old video card (NVIDIA geforce 280) died. I bought and installed a new video card: Radeon HD 7770. After this, my sound no longer worked in ubuntu (Win7 audio still works). Everything else in ubuntu, such as video, works fine. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the Radeon card includes sound capability. Problem Details: If I click on System Settings - Sound, the panel freezes and stops responding indefinitely. The sound volume icon at the top of the screen (by the clock) shows 3 dashes beside it "---", and an empty drop-down box shows if I click on it. (Possibly related to 1.) When I reboot my machine, I get the message: "gnome settings daemon not responding". I have to force the reboot. I reinstalled ubunbu (perserving my home directory) and the problem persists. My video card is Diamond multimedia. Also there's the weird NVIDIA device in there. That must either be a remnant of my now removed NVIDIA graphics card, or else some kind of on-board thing. But the "Test Sound" button makes no sound And the output volume + mute controls are greyed / disabled at 0 volume. • Nginx and PHP Fundamentals

It’s a practical look at two of the biggest technologies on the web – Nginx, which is the fastest growing HTTP server around (currently hosting 100+ million sites), and PHP, which powers more websites than any other server-side framework (currently 240+ million sites). The two technologies work well together, both are open-source and cross-platform and both are lightweight and easy to get started with - you just need to download and unzip the runtimes, and with a text editor you can create and host dynamic websites. I’ve used PHP as a second (sometimes third) language since 2005 when I was brought cold into an established codebase to help improve performance, and Nginx to host tier 2 apps for the last couple of years. As with any training course, you learn new things as you produce it, and it was good to focus on a different stack from my commercial .NET world. In the course I start with a website in two parts – one which is just static content, and one which processes a user registration form using ASP.NET MVC, both running in IIS. Over four modules I migrate the app to Nginx and PHP: Hosting Static Content in Nginx – how to deploy and configure Nginx for a basic website; PHP Part 1: Basic Web Forms – installing PHP and an IDE, and building a simple form with server-side validation; PHP Part 2: Packages and Integration – using PECL and Composer for packages to connect to Azure, AWS, Mongo and reCAPTCHA; Hosting PHP in Nginx – configuring Nginx to host our PHP site. Along the way I run some performance stats with JMeter, and the headlines are that Nginx running on Linux outperforms IIS on Windows for static content,by 800 requests per second over 1000 concurrent requests; and Linux+Ngnix+PHP outperforms Windows+IIS+ASP.NET MVC by 700 request per second with the same load. Of course, the headline stats don’t tell the whole story, and when you add OpCode caching for PHP and the ASP.NET Output Cache, the results are very different. As Web architecture moves away from heavy server-side processing, to Single Page Apps with client-side frameworks like AngularJS and Knockout, I think there’s an increasing need for high-performance, low-cost server technologies, and the combination of Nginx and PHP makes a compelling case.

• Windows Azure Use Case: Infrastructure Limits

  This is one in a series of posts on when and where to use a distributed architecture design in your organization's computing needs. You can find the main post here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/buckwoody/archive/2011/01/18/windows-azure-and-sql-azure-use-cases.aspx  Description: Physical hardware components take up room, use electricity, create heat and therefore need cooling, and require wiring and special storage units. all of these requirements cost money to rent at a data-center or to build out at a local facility. In some cases, this can be a catalyst for evaluating options to remove this infrastructure requirement entirely by moving to a distributed computing environment. Implementation: There are three main options for moving to a distributed computing environment. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) The first option is simply to virtualize the current hardware and move the VM’s to a provider. You can do this with Microsoft’s Hyper-V product or other software, build the systems and host them locally on fewer physical machines. This is a good option for canned-applications (where you have to type setup.exe) but not as useful for custom applications, as you still have to license and patch those servers, and there are hard limits on the VM sizes. Software as a Service (SaaS) If there is already software available that does what you need, it may make sense to simply purchase not only the software license but the use of it on the vendor’s servers. Microsoft’s Exchange Online is an example of simply using an offering from a vendor on their servers. If you do not need a great deal of customization, have no interest in owning or extending the source code, and need to implement a solution quickly, this is a good choice. Platform as a Service (PaaS) If you do need to write software for your environment, your next choice is a Platform as a Service such as Windows Azure. In this case you no longer manager physical or even virtual servers. You start at the code and data level of control and responsibility, and your focus is more on the design and maintenance of the application itself. In this case you own the source code and can extend or change it as you see fit. An interesting side-benefit to using Windows Azure as a PaaS is that the Application Fabric component allows a hybrid approach, which gives you a basis to allow on-premise applications to leverage distributed computing paradigms. No one solution fits every situation. It’s common to see organizations pick a mixture of on-premise, IaaS, SaaS and PaaS components. • Windows Azure Use Case: High-Performance Computing (HPC)

You can find the main post here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/buckwoody/archive/2011/01/18/windows-azure-and-sql-azure-use-cases.aspx  Description: High-Performance Computing (also called Technical Computing) at its most simplistic is a layout of computer workloads where a “head node” accepts work requests, and parses them out to “worker nodes'”. This is useful in cases such as scientific simulations, drug research, MatLab work and where other large compute loads are required. It’s not the immediate-result type computing many are used to; instead, a “job” or group of work requests is sent to a cluster of computers and the worker nodes work on individual parts of the calculations and return the work to the scheduler or head node for the requestor in a batch-request fashion. This is typical to the way that many mainframe computing use-cases work. You can use commodity-based computers to create an HPC Cluster, such as the Linux application called Beowulf, and Microsoft has a server product for HPC using standard computers, called the Windows Compute Cluster that you can read more about here. The issue with HPC (from any vendor) that some organization have is the amount of compute nodes they need. Having too many results in excess infrastructure, including computers, buildings, storage, heat and so on. Having too few means that the work is slower, and takes longer to return a result to the calling application. Unless there is a consistent level of work requested, predicting the number of nodes is problematic. Implementation: Recently, Microsoft announced an internal partnership between the HPC group (Now called the Technical Computing Group) and Windows Azure. You now have two options for implementing an HPC environment using Windows. You can extend the current infrastructure you have for HPC by adding in Compute Nodes in Windows Azure, using a “Broker Node”.  You can then purchase time for adding machines, and then stop paying for them when the work is completed. This is a common pattern in groups that have a constant need for HPC, but need to “burst” that load count under certain conditions. The second option is to install only a Head Node and a Broker Node onsite, and host all Compute Nodes in Windows Azure. This is often the pattern for organizations that need HPC on a scheduled and periodic basis, such as financial analysis or actuarial table calculations. • ODI 11g – How to Load Using Partition Exchange

  Here we will look at how to load large volumes of data efficiently into the Oracle database using a mixture of CTAS and partition exchange loading. The example we will leverage was posted by Mark Rittman a couple of years back on Interval Partitioning, you can find that posting here. The best thing about ODI is that you can encapsulate all those ‘how to’ blog posts and scripts into templates that can be reused – the templates are of course Knowledge Modules. The interface design to mimic Mark's posting is shown below; The IKM I have constructed performs a simple series of steps to perform a CTAS to create the stage table to use in the exchange, then lock the partition (to ensure it exists, it will be created if it doesn’t) then exchange the partition in the target table. You can find the IKM Oracle PEL.xml file here. The IKM performs the follows steps and is meant to illustrate what can be done; So when you use the IKM in an interface you configure the options for hints (for parallelism levels etc), initial extent size, next extent size and the partition variable;   The KM has an option where the name of the partition can be passed in, so if you know the name of the partition then set the variable to the name, if you have interval partitioning you probably don’t know the name, so you can use the FOR clause. In my example I set the variable to use the date value of the source data FOR (TO_DATE(''01-FEB-2010'',''dd-MON-yyyy'')) Using a variable lets me invoke the scenario many times loading different partitions of the same target table. Below you can see where this is defined within ODI, I had to double single-quote the strings since this is placed inside the execute immediate tasks in the KM; Note also this example interface uses the LKM Oracle to Oracle (datapump), so this illustration uses a lot of the high performing Oracle database capabilities – it uses Data Pump to unload, then a CreateTableAsSelect (CTAS) is executed on the external table based on top of the Data Pump export. This table is then exchanged in the target. The IKM and illustrations above are using ODI 11.1.1.6 which was needed to get around some bugs in earlier releases with how the variable is handled...as far as I remember.

  Assumptions:Node 0a is the cluster node that has crashed and could not boot anymore.Node 0b is the node in cluster and in production with services active.Both nodes have their boot disk mirrored via SDS/SVM.We have many options to clone the boot disk from node 0b:- make a copy via network using the ufsdump command and pipe to ufsrestore - make a copy inserting the disk locally on node 0b and creating the third mirror with SDS- make a copy inserting the disk locally on node 0b using dd commandIn this procedure we are going to use dd command (from my experience this is the best option).Bare in mind that in the examples provided we work on Sun Fire V240 systems which have SCSI internal disks. Work asynchronously One of the secrets to producing scalable websites and services is to perform all your I/O operations asynchronously to avoid blocking threads. When your thread issues a synchronous I/O request, the Windows kernel blocks the thread. This causes the thread pool to create a new thread, which allocates a lot of memory and wastes precious CPU time. Calling xxxAsync method and using C#’s async/await keywords allows your thread to return to the thread pool so it can be used for other things. This reduces the resource consumption of your app, allowing it to use more memory and improving response time to your clients. Congratulations Jeffrey!
