I'm curious as to which is faster; the approximate wireless signal strength (average) is about 60%. My question is, would my internet be faster if I used ethernet, resulting in a stronger connection?

  • activate wireless chip on ubuntu

    I am currently using ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop , the model of my wireless chip is broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY . I tried to activate the driver for the chip by clicking menu bar System - Administration - Additional Drivers . and activated Broadcom STA wireless driver. But the laptop can't detect any wireless signal still. Do I have to do any additional work to make the chip work ? Or how can I test if there is physical damage to the chip itself

  • Can you plug DVD/Game system into an LCD?

    All the LCD's in our house have DVI and VGA inputs. None support S-Video or any analog formats. Our game systems (nes, snes, n64, ps, ps2, gamecube, etc..) and DVD and VHS players only have composite (the yellow/red/white cords..?) or S-Video (that PS2-input like cable..?). How can I convert the signal these analog systems output to work on VGA or DVI?

    I need an alternative to Visio for making diagrams (particularly signal processing block diagrams) that includes some kind of custom stencils + connection points. I just spent 2 hrs learning bits and pieces of Dia only to find that it has no rotational capabilities, not even 90 degree rotations. Otherwise it's great. Any suggestions?

    I've just recently purchased a USB wi-fi adapter and have been using the software (for Windows XP) that comes with it to search for and connect to networks, but it's really quite slow and featureless. Are there free/OSS alternatives for Windows XP that can I can replace it with? Preferably something that can, in addition to connecting/searching for wireless networks, display stats like signal strength and transfer speeds on graphs so I can better monitor the quality of my connection?

    Is it possible to use two of these both providing connectivity to the same network name for additional signal by having one plugged into a hot data port and having the other only powered by the AC? It seems to have worked for one day, then it stopped and I have the middle light blinking, and the other "hot" one solid in the middle and flashing rapidly on the last light.

  • New monitor connected to HDMI adaptor doesn't show output after booting

    Hello out there in the multiple monitors’ world. I am a very old newbie in your world and need help. I just purchased a new Asus VH236H monitor and hooked it up the HDMI port of an ATI Radeon HD4300 / 4500 Series display adaptor. I left the old Princeton LCD19 (TMDS) hooked up to the DVI port of the same display adaptor. Both monitors displayed the boot sequence, after I fired good old Sarastro2 (Asus P5Q Pro Turbo – Dual Core E5300 – 2.60 GHz) up. The Asus lacked one half of a second behind the Princeton until the Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 boot up was complete. Then the Asus displayed “HDMI NO SIGNAL” and went into hibernation. The Princeton stayed lit up as before. Both monitors are displayed on the “Screen Resolution Setup Display” and I plaid around with them for a while. The only thing I accomplished was to shove the desktop icons from the Princeton to the still hibernating Asus. The “Multiple displays:” is set to “Extend these displays”, the Orientation is “Landscape” and the Resolutions are set on both to the “recommended” one. Both monitors show that they work properly in the advanced Properties display. What am I doing wrong, what am I missing? Never mind the opinions about the different resolutions of the two monitors. I always can unhook the Princeton and give it to a Goodwill Store if I do not like the setup. I just would like to make it work. Any constructive help is very much appreciated, Thank you. Thank you Anees Bakrain Only the ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series adapter is displayed in the Device Manager, for that reason I have to assume that the onboard display adaptor is not active. All 40 drivers of Sarastro2 are up to date and the HDMI cable can not be the problem because both monitors displayed the boot sequence up to the moment when Windows 7 was loaded completely. This was the moment, when the Asus monitor lost its signal. Both connectors, HDMI and DVI are connected and removing the DVI connector would not solve my problem of running both monitors simultaneously. However, your suggestions shifted my seventy one year old brain into the next gear. The only question remaining is; “Why the signals to the Asus monitor stop after the sequence is complete”. The ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series adapter seems to be capable of sending simultaneous HDMI and DVI signals, what is done during the boot sequence. Why do the signals change after the boot sequence is complete is the key question or der springende Punkt? Is this a correct assumption slhck?

Maybe it's impossible but I like to ask Superusers. All I can think of is something like sending a signal to PC's BIOS.   • Have Ubuntu auto-connect to wireless AP without logging in

    We have an ubuntu box set up to do some monitoring but due to the placement are unable to run CAT5 to the box itself. I have an Atheros PCI card that works great as long as someone is logged into Gnome and it doesn't disconnect from the AP during that time. Is there a way to have Ubuntu connect to the AP during boot, and always reconnect if it finds a signal from a specified AP? The box would have a static IP and only connecting to a specific AP using WEP.

    Hi We have a client that is sending xml messages that are produced from two separate schemas. We would like to process them in a single application, since the content is related. We cannot modify the client's schema that they are using to produce the XML messages... We can modify our own copies of the two schema (or binding.jxb) -- if it helps -- in order to enable our JAXB processing of messages created from the two separate schemas. Unfortunately, both schemas have the same root element name (see below).     Can any one tell me how to get the PID of a command executed in bash. E.g. I have a bash script that runs imapsync. When the script is killed the imapsync process does not always get killed, so I'd like to be able to identify the PID of imapsync programatically from my script, so that I can kill the imapsync process myself in a signal handler.     I am using Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway as my modem and router right now and it works fine on a computer directly connected to Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway with wire but I am getting very low/poor signal strength on my wireless computer due to which I am looking to install DLink DIR-625 as my router but because when I connect Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway with DLink DIR-625 and connect my computer with wire to DIR-625 then I don’t get any Internet.(I get Internet when I connect my computer with wire with Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 and I know there is nothing wrong with DLink DIR-625).

  • Why does my monitor have a black screen but the power light is blinking green?

    I have a ViewSonic VA912b 19" display I use as a secondary monitor. When I turn it on, the power light is green for a few seconds, and then switches to blinking green. The display stays black. Windows thinks the monitor is on, as it shows up in the control panel as a second monitor. If I unplug the DVI cable, it displays a "No Signal" message and the power light goes to amber, which means it went to sleep.

I tried it at work just to test that the WiFi on the Netbook does actually work and it was fine (if a bit slow) It can see the connection, and the signal, tries to "Associate" with my home network but "Fails" it will sometimes retry Encryption is set to TKIP Authentication WPA-PSK EAP Type TLS I have tried all sorts of other settings but there seems to be very little to try??     I know that 3d active shutter glasses work with infared or radio (radio = only bluetooth?). I know that both of them are harmfull but, with either of them, does only one signal get send, to just syncronize glasses with monitor, or the trnasmitter and glasses communicate the whole tiime? An infared/bluetooth transimition for a second(s) is tottaly acceptable, no complain at all, unless the transimition is the whole time.
