• A reasonable way to add attributes to an xml root element in C#.

  The function "WriteStartElement" does not return anything. I find this a little bizzare. So up until now I have been doing it like this. XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); XmlTextWriter xmlWriter = new XmlTextWriter(m_targetFilePath, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8); xmlWriter.Formatting = Formatting.Indented; xmlWriter.WriteProcessingInstruction("xml", "version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'"); xmlWriter.WriteStartElement("client"); xmlWriter.Close(); xmlDoc.Load(m_targetFilePath); XmlElement root = xmlDoc.DocumentElement; Saving the doc, then reloading it to get hold of the start element so i can write attributes to it. Does anybody know the correct way of doing this because I'm pretty sure what I'm doing isn't right. I tried to use xmlWriter.AppendChild() but it doesnt seem to write out anything. :(

• CoreData could not fulfill a fault when adding new attribute

  I am receiving a "CoreData could not fulfill a fault for ..." error message when trying to access a new attribute in a new data model. If I work with new data I'm ok, but when I attempt to read existing data I get the error. Do I need to handle the entity differently myself if the attribute isn't in my original data? I was under the impression that Core Data could handle this for me. My new attribute is marked as optional with a default value. • building objects from xml file at runtime and intializing, in one pass?

  I have to parse the XML file and build objects representation based on that, now once I get all these data I create entries in various database for these data objects. I have to do second pass over that for value as in the first pass all I could do is build the assets in various databases. and in second pass I get the values for all the data and put it in the database. I have a feeling that this can be done in a single pass but I just want to see what are your opinions. As I am just a student who started with professional work, experienced ppl please help. Can someone who have ideas or done similar work, please provide some light on the topic so that I can think over the possibility of the work and get the prototype going based on your suggestion.   Assume we have some DataTable or IEnumerable with ChildID, ParentID and Title. We need to serialize it to XML like <Entity title=""> <Entity title=""></Entity> <Entity title=""></Entity> </Entity> As i found out, standard DataTable.GetXML() returns something different. I thought about initializing class tree like Entity e = new Entity(ID, Title, ParentEntityID) and then serializing it. Table is about 3000 elems. Is there faster way?

• Is it possible to query a XML file with SQL?

  Currently I'm working on a case where we don't want to change to much on a c#/wpf program, but like to add a feature. Currently we allow certain users to add sql queries to a database to retrieve customer data, hereby a custom connection string/ provider name must be specified. With this information it's possible to create the connection and obtain the data with c#. However we like to add the possibility to allow that user group to query XML files too, with a certain connection string/ provider name. I just had a look for possibities in .net to do that, but can't seem to find a decent way... Is something like this possible? (OleDb/ODBC way maybe?) Thanks in advance.

I found the class NSXMLDocument, http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/cocoa/reference/foundation/Classes/NSXMLDocument_Class/Reference/Reference.html But I haven't been able to import it to my project. Is this class not available for IPhone/IPad development? Is there some other approach I can consider? I read about libxml library. Is it my answer or there is a better approach?

  I'm creating an attribute so that whenever an exception occurs on my site, I'll receive an email detailing the exception. I've got so far but my Attribute code doesn't seem to fire if an exception occurs: public class ReportingAttribute : FilterAttribute, IExceptionFilter { public void OnException(ExceptionContext filterContext) { // This will generate an email to me ErrorReporting.GenerateEmail(filterContext.Exception); } } Then above my Controller I'm doing: [ReportingAttribute] public class AccountController : Controller The other way to do it is ofcourse putting ErrorReporting.GenerateEmail(ex) inside my catch blocks? There must be a simpler way? Thats why I thought of creating the Attribute to handle this

  I want to bind the presence of an attribute to a variable in AngularJS. Specifically, sandbox for an iframe. Say I have $myCtrl.allowJavascript as a variable, I want to do: <iframe src="..." sandbox /> Where the sandbox attribute is present when allowJavascript == false, and I want the sandbox attribute to disappear when allowJavascript == true. Does AngularJS have a mechanism for this? The closest thing I could find was here, which basically says "it will just work for certain attributes"--but not for sandbox.

I tried using //item/* but the tags are not grouped, although they are correctly ordered. In my web.xml file, I am doing this: <servlet> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.me.test.ServletCore</servlet-class> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>ServletCore</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> so that is letting the ServletCore servlet pick up any url, but as expected it is taking over even the: www.mysite.com/index.jsp type urls.   i have a function which is a class method, and i want to test a attribute of the class which may or may not be None, but will exist always. class classA(): def __init__(self, var1, var2 = None): self.attribute1 = var1 self.attribute2 = var2 @classmethod def func(self,x): if self.attribute2 is None: do something i get the error AttributeError: class classA has no attribute 'attributeB' when i access the attribute like i showed but if on command line i can see it works, x = classA() x.attributeB is None True so the test works. if i remove the @classmethod decorator from func, the problem disapears. if i leave the @classmethod decorator, it only seems to affect variables which are supplied default values in the super-class's constructor. whats going on in the above code?

• How do I get MSBuild Task to generate XML Documents when building a solution?

  I have a solution with lots of projects. Each project is configured to generate the XML documentation file when building in Debug-Mode (which is default). That works when I build in Visual Studio 2008. In my build script on my integration server I advise MSBuild to build the whole solution, but it won't generate the documentation files. What can I do? I already tried to explicitly give the Debug-Condition to the build process, but it makes no difference. <Target Name="BuilSolution"> <MSBuild Projects="C:\Path\To\MySolution.sln" targets="Build" Properties="SolutionConfigurationPlatforms='Debug|Any CPU'"/> </Target> There seem to be some ideas to solve this problem when building single projects, but I can't afford to do this, so I need a hint for doing it this way.   Hello, I need to change the color of certain attributes/tags. I am switching from Dreamweaver and making the skin has been really hard in TextMate. As you can see, I want to change the a and img tags along with all of their attributes. The closest I've come to find is entity.other.attribute-name which only works with id for some reason entity.other.attribute-name.id Bonus would be the scope selector for the value of an attribute, e.g. "Logo" alt in the above example. • Possible to add hook as android fetches XML-strings?

  I'm on my first week with android and would appreciate any insight if it's possible to hook or override the default behaviour when an android application reads their values from the resource-files to the shown layouts. What I want is to over time be able to add new/updated strings OTA and store locally and then on launch of application load new values instead of the ones in the default /res. Ideally i guess, would be an override of setContentView. Files holding updates will be in same xml-format as those in /res. (Please, no advices in other ways to do this.   ATM i cant quiet imagine how this will work. I'm sure it can be done. I notice a pattern use in my attribute where i always use 3 specific attributes together. Take the below as an example [MyAttr(4, @"a"), MyAttr(41, "b"), MyAttr(45, "ab")] Mine is much more complicated but i would like to define one attribute with more params to generate the data above. How might i do that? Lets say my one attribute will look like this MyAttr2(4, 41, "a", "b"); //4+41=45, "a"+"b" = "ab" How might i generate the 3 MyAttr to apply to a class using MyAttr2?

• Using heavyweight ORM implementation for light based games

  I'm just about to engulf myself in an MVC-based/Component architecture in C#, using MySQL's connector/Net for the data storage, and probably some NHibernate/FluentNHibernate Object-relational-mapping to map out the data structure. The goal is to build a scalable 2D RPG. Then I think about it...and I can't help but think this seems a little "heavy weight" for a 2D RPG, especially one which, while I plan to incorporate a lot of functionality and entertaining gameplay, may be ported to something like Windows Phone or Android in the future. Yet, on the other hand even a 2-Dimensional RPG can become very complicated, and therefore must incorporate a lot of functionality. While this can be accomplished with text/XML/JSON for data storage, is there a better way? Is something such as Object-Relational-Mapping useful in such an application? So, what do you think? Would you say that there is a place for such technologies? I don't know what to think...

But most programs writes the output message to stdout in custom format and usually in human readable format. So it requires the system integrator to write a function to parse the output, which is considered trouble and the parser code may be buggy. Do you think this is old fashioned? Most Unix-style programs do that. Very few programs write to stdout in standard format such as XML or JSON, which is more modern. Example: Veracity (DVCS) writes JSON to stdout. Should we switch to use modern formats? For a console program, human readable or easy parsable: which is more important ?

• Blogger Template: How is inline style tag getting attached to img? [migrated]

  Examining a blogger template's img tag (data:post.thumbnailUrl) i've approached a mystery. An inline style tag controlling the width, margin and heigh perimeters are getting added to my img element. They are auto adjusting the images ratio to fit a smaller size. But I can't figure-out where this style tag script lives and how it's happening in my template. My template has no special javascript or jquery scripts. The full size images in the single posts page don't have this style tag.   This is a naming things question. I am processing trees (XML documents), and there are often special rules applied to nodes based on structure. It's been very difficult coming up with concise naming conventions for some cases, namely for nodes in the first position among their siblings, along with some recursive relationship: Given an arbitrary node, I want to describe its first child, and then that node's first child, and so on recursively. Given another arbitrary node, I want to describe its parent if the parent is first among its siblings, and that parent's parent if it's first, and so on recursively. Is there existing terminology to describe these tree positions? How would you name a variable or function that captures one of these cases so that it's intuitive to an unfamiliar developer trying to understand an algorithm?

• Can XNA Content Pipeline split one content file into several .xnb?

  Let's say I have an xml file which looks like this <Weapons> <Weapon> <Name>Pistol</Name> ... </Weapon> <Weapon> <Name>MachineGun</Name> ... </Weapon> </Weapons> Would it be possible to use a custom importer/writer/reader to create two files, Pistol.xnb and MachineGun.xnb which I can load individually with Content.Load()? While writing this I realized I could just import a Weapon[] list and split them up with a helper, but I'm still wondering if this is possible?
