  • transaction handling in dataset based insert/update in c#

    - by user3703611
    I am trying to insert bulk records in a sql server database table using dataset. But i am unable to do transaction handling. Please help me to apply transaction handling in below code. I am using adapter.UpdateCommand.Transaction = trans; but this line give me an error of Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Code: string ConnectionString = "server=localhost\\sqlexpress;database=WindowsApp;Integrated Security=SSPI;"; SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConnectionString); conn.Open(); SqlTransaction trans = conn.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Serializable); SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM Test ORDER BY Id", conn); SqlCommandBuilder builder = new SqlCommandBuilder(adapter); adapter.UpdateCommand.Transaction = trans; // Create a dataset object DataSet ds = new DataSet("TestSet"); adapter.Fill(ds, "Test"); // Create a data table object and add a new row DataTable TestTable = ds.Tables["Test"]; for (int i=1;i<=50;i++) { DataRow row = TestTable.NewRow(); row["Id"] = i; TestTable .Rows.Add(row); } // Update data adapter adapter.Update(ds, "Test"); trans.Commit(); conn.Close();

SqlConnection oConnection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["HomeGrownEnergyConnectionString"].ToString()); string sqlEnergy = "Select * from Product p where p.ProductTypeId=3"; SqlCommand oCmd = new SqlCommand(sqlEnergy, oConnection); DataTable dtenergy = new DataTable(); SqlDataAdapter oDa = new SqlDataAdapter(oCmd); try { oConnection.Open(); ; oDa.Fill(dtenergy); } catch (Exception ex) { lblnodata.Text = ex.Message; return; } finally { oConnection.Close(); } DataTableReader results = dtenergy.CreateDataReader(); if (results.HasRows) { results.Read(); foreach(DataRow result in dtenergy.Rows) { byte[] imgProd = result["ThumnailLocation"] as byte[]; ID.Text = result["ProductID"].ToString(); Name.Text = result["Name"].ToString(); price.Text = FormatPriceColumn(result["Price"].ToString()); } } Here is the code for the asp.net. <div> <asp:Image ID="imgProd" CssClass="ProdImg" runat="server" /> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="ID" /> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="Name" /> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="price" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtQty" MaxLength="3" runat="server" Width="30px" /> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="Addtocart" Text="Add To Cart" CommandName="AddToCart" ItemStyle-CssClass="btnCol" /> If someone could please help me that would be great thanks.

  • Why newly created entity object with navigation property is automaticly added to ObjectContext?

    - by Levelbit
    I have to entities: Company and Location (one to many). When I create new Location entity object and assign navigation property(Company) with the navigation property of already existing Location object (Location _new = new Location(); _new.Company = _old.Company). It seems that at that point newly created object is added to Object Context automatically, because when I call SaveChanges method that object is insert to database although I didn't call ObjectContext.AddObject(_new). I'm new in EF so there is probably reason why I have result like this? Is there need to assign also CompanyReference filed too and how to do it? IDaoFactory daoFactory = new DaoFactory(); ILocationDao locaitonDao = daoFactory.GetLocationDao(); IEnumerable<Location> locations = locaitonDao.GetLocations(); Location _old = locations.First(); Location _new = new Location(); _new.LocationName = _old.LocationName; _new.Company = _old.Company;// 1 _new.Address = _old.Address; //... ContactEntities.SaveChanges();//2 If I execute line (1) instantly _new object is added to object context and I can see additional datarow in my datagrid after line (2) is executed.

  • Cast exception being generated when using the same type of object

    - by David Tunnell
    I was previously using static variables to hold variable data that I want to save between postbacks. I was having problems and found that the data in these variables is lost when the appdomain ends. So I did some research and decided to go with ViewStates: static Dictionary<string, linkButtonObject> linkButtonDictonary; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewState["linkButtonDictonary"] != null) { linkButtonDictonary = (Dictionary<string, linkButtonObject>)ViewState["linkButtonDictonary"]; } else { linkButtonDictonary = new Dictionary<string, linkButtonObject>(); } } And here is the very simple class I use: [Serializable] public class linkButtonObject { public string storyNumber { get; set; } public string TaskName { get; set; } } I am adding to linkButtonDictionary as a gridview is databound: protected void hoursReportGridView_OnRowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow) { LinkButton btn = (LinkButton)e.Row.FindControl("taskLinkButton"); linkButtonObject currentRow = new linkButtonObject(); currentRow.storyNumber = e.Row.Cells[3].Text; currentRow.TaskName = e.Row.Cells[5].Text; linkButtonDictonary.Add(btn.UniqueID, currentRow); } } It appears that my previous issues are resolved however a new one has arisin. Sometime when I postback I am getting this error: [A]System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary2[System.String,linkButtonObject] cannot be cast to [B]System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary2[System.String,linkButtonObject]. Type A originates from 'mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' in the context 'LoadNeither' at location 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_32\mscorlib\v4.0_4.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089\mscorlib.dll'. Type B originates from 'mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' in the context 'LoadNeither' at location 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_32\mscorlib\v4.0_4.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089\mscorlib.dll'. I don't understand how there can be a casting issue when I am using the same class everywhere. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

  • Bulk inserting best way to about it? + Helping me understand fully what I found so far

    - by chobo2
    Hi So I saw this post here and read it and it seems like bulk copy might be the way to go. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682015/whats-the-best-way-to-bulk-database-inserts-from-c I still have some questions and want to know how things actually work. So I found 2 tutorials. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/MultipleInsertsIn1dbTrip.aspx#_Toc196622241 http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx First way uses 2 ado.net 2.0 features. BulkInsert and BulkCopy. the second one uses linq to sql and OpenXML. This sort of appeals to me as I am using linq to sql already and prefer it over ado.net. However as one person pointed out in the posts what he just going around the issue at the cost of performance( nothing wrong with that in my opinion) First I will talk about the 2 ways in the first tutorial I am using VS2010 Express, .net 4.0, MVC 2.0, SQl Server 2005 Is ado.net 2.0 the most current version? Based on the technology I am using, is there some updates to what I am going to show that would improve it somehow? Is there any thing that these tutorial left out that I should know about? BulkInsert I am using this table for all the examples. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TBL_TEST_TEST] ( ID INT IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY, [NAME] [varchar](50) ) SP Code USE [Test] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[sp_BatchInsert] Script Date: 05/19/2010 15:12:47 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_BatchInsert] (@Name VARCHAR(50) ) AS BEGIN INSERT INTO TBL_TEST_TEST VALUES (@Name); END C# Code /// <summary> /// Another ado.net 2.0 way that uses a stored procedure to do a bulk insert. /// Seems slower then "BatchBulkCopy" way and it crashes when you try to insert 500,000 records in one go. /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/MultipleInsertsIn1dbTrip.aspx#_Toc196622241 /// </summary> private static void BatchInsert() { // Get the DataTable with Rows State as RowState.Added DataTable dtInsertRows = GetDataTable(); SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString); SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("sp_BatchInsert", connection); command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; command.UpdatedRowSource = UpdateRowSource.None; // Set the Parameter with appropriate Source Column Name command.Parameters.Add("@Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50, dtInsertRows.Columns[0].ColumnName); SqlDataAdapter adpt = new SqlDataAdapter(); adpt.InsertCommand = command; // Specify the number of records to be Inserted/Updated in one go. Default is 1. adpt.UpdateBatchSize = 1000; connection.Open(); int recordsInserted = adpt.Update(dtInsertRows); connection.Close(); } So first thing is the batch size. Why would you set a batch size to anything but the number of records you are sending? Like I am sending 500,000 records so I did a Batch size of 500,000. Next why does it crash when I do this? If I set it to 1000 for batch size it works just fine. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled Message="A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. Next I looked at bulkcopy /// <summary> /// An ado.net 2.0 way to mass insert records. This seems to be the fastest. /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/MultipleInsertsIn1dbTrip.aspx#_Toc196622241 /// </summary> private static void BatchBulkCopy() { // Get the DataTable DataTable dtInsertRows = GetDataTable(); using (SqlBulkCopy sbc = new SqlBulkCopy(connectionString, SqlBulkCopyOptions.KeepIdentity)) { sbc.DestinationTableName = "TBL_TEST_TEST"; // Number of records to be processed in one go sbc.BatchSize = 500000; // Map the Source Column from DataTabel to the Destination Columns in SQL Server 2005 Person Table // sbc.ColumnMappings.Add("ID", "ID"); sbc.ColumnMappings.Add("NAME", "NAME"); // Number of records after which client has to be notified about its status sbc.NotifyAfter = dtInsertRows.Rows.Count; // Event that gets fired when NotifyAfter number of records are processed. sbc.SqlRowsCopied += new SqlRowsCopiedEventHandler(sbc_SqlRowsCopied); // Finally write to server sbc.WriteToServer(dtInsertRows); sbc.Close(); } } This one seemed to go really fast and did not even need a SP( can you use SP with bulk copy? If you can would it be better?) BatchCopy had no problem with a 500,000 batch size.So again why make it smaller then the number of records you want to send? I found that with BatchCopy and 500,000 batch size it took only 5 seconds to complete. I then tried with a batch size of 1,000 and it only took 8 seconds. So much faster then the bulkinsert one above. Now I tried the other tutorial. USE [Test] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[spTEST_InsertXMLTEST_TEST] Script Date: 05/19/2010 15:39:03 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spTEST_InsertXMLTEST_TEST](@UpdatedProdData nText) AS DECLARE @hDoc int exec sp_xml_preparedocument @hDoc OUTPUT,@UpdatedProdData INSERT INTO TBL_TEST_TEST(NAME) SELECT XMLProdTable.NAME FROM OPENXML(@hDoc, 'ArrayOfTBL_TEST_TEST/TBL_TEST_TEST', 2) WITH ( ID Int, NAME varchar(100) ) XMLProdTable EXEC sp_xml_removedocument @hDoc C# code. /// <summary> /// This is using linq to sql to make the table objects. /// It is then serailzed to to an xml document and sent to a stored proedure /// that then does a bulk insert(I think with OpenXML) /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx /// </summary> private static void LinqInsertXMLBatch() { using (TestDataContext db = new TestDataContext()) { TBL_TEST_TEST[] testRecords = new TBL_TEST_TEST[500000]; for (int count = 0; count < 500000; count++) { TBL_TEST_TEST testRecord = new TBL_TEST_TEST(); testRecord.NAME = "Name : " + count; testRecords[count] = testRecord; } StringBuilder sBuilder = new StringBuilder(); System.IO.StringWriter sWriter = new System.IO.StringWriter(sBuilder); XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(TBL_TEST_TEST[])); serializer.Serialize(sWriter, testRecords); db.insertTestData(sBuilder.ToString()); } } So I like this because I get to use objects even though it is kinda redundant. I don't get how the SP works. Like I don't get the whole thing. I don't know if OPENXML has some batch insert under the hood but I do not even know how to take this example SP and change it to fit my tables since like I said I don't know what is going on. I also don't know what would happen if the object you have more tables in it. Like say I have a ProductName table what has a relationship to a Product table or something like that. In linq to sql you could get the product name object and make changes to the Product table in that same object. So I am not sure how to take that into account. I am not sure if I would have to do separate inserts or what. The time was pretty good for 500,000 records it took 52 seconds The last way of course was just using linq to do it all and it was pretty bad. /// <summary> /// This is using linq to sql to to insert lots of records. /// This way is slow as it uses no mass insert. /// Only tried to insert 50,000 records as I did not want to sit around till it did 500,000 records. /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx /// </summary> private static void LinqInsertAll() { using (TestDataContext db = new TestDataContext()) { db.CommandTimeout = 600; for (int count = 0; count < 50000; count++) { TBL_TEST_TEST testRecord = new TBL_TEST_TEST(); testRecord.NAME = "Name : " + count; db.TBL_TEST_TESTs.InsertOnSubmit(testRecord); } db.SubmitChanges(); } } I did only 50,000 records and that took over a minute to do. So I really narrowed it done to the linq to sql bulk insert way or bulk copy. I am just not sure how to do it when you have relationship for either way. I am not sure how they both stand up when doing updates instead of inserts as I have not gotten around to try it yet. I don't think I will ever need to insert/update more than 50,000 records at one type but at the same time I know I will have to do validation on records before inserting so that will slow it down and that sort of makes linq to sql nicer as your got objects especially if your first parsing data from a xml file before you insert into the database. Full C# code using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Xml.Serialization; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; namespace TestIQueryable { class Program { private static string connectionString = ""; static void Main(string[] args) { BatchInsert(); Console.WriteLine("done"); } /// <summary> /// This is using linq to sql to to insert lots of records. /// This way is slow as it uses no mass insert. /// Only tried to insert 50,000 records as I did not want to sit around till it did 500,000 records. /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx /// </summary> private static void LinqInsertAll() { using (TestDataContext db = new TestDataContext()) { db.CommandTimeout = 600; for (int count = 0; count < 50000; count++) { TBL_TEST_TEST testRecord = new TBL_TEST_TEST(); testRecord.NAME = "Name : " + count; db.TBL_TEST_TESTs.InsertOnSubmit(testRecord); } db.SubmitChanges(); } } /// <summary> /// This is using linq to sql to make the table objects. /// It is then serailzed to to an xml document and sent to a stored proedure /// that then does a bulk insert(I think with OpenXML) /// http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx /// </summary> private static void LinqInsertXMLBatch() { using (TestDataContext db = new TestDataContext()) { TBL_TEST_TEST[] testRecords = new TBL_TEST_TEST[500000]; for (int count = 0; count < 500000; count++) { TBL_TEST_TEST testRecord = new TBL_TEST_TEST(); testRecord.NAME = "Name : " + count; testRecords[count] = testRecord; } StringBuilder sBuilder = new StringBuilder(); System.IO.StringWriter sWriter = new System.IO.StringWriter(sBuilder); XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(TBL_TEST_TEST[])); serializer.Serialize(sWriter, testRecords); db.insertTestData(sBuilder.ToString()); } } /// <summary> /// An ado.net 2.0 way to mass insert records. • FAQ: Highlight GridView Row on Click and Retain Selected Row on Postback

    - by Vincent Maverick Durano
    A couple of months ago I’ve written a simple demo about “Highlighting GridView Row on MouseOver”. I’ve noticed many members in the forums (http://forums.asp.net) are asking how to highlight row in GridView and retain the selected row across postbacks. So I’ve decided to write this post to demonstrate how to implement it as reference to others who might need it. In this demo I going to use a combination of plain JavaScript and jQuery to do the client-side manipulation. I presumed that you already know how to bind the grid with data because I will not include the codes for populating the GridView here. For binding the gridview you can refer this post: Binding GridView with Data the ADO.Net way or this one: GridView Custom Paging with LINQ. To get started let’s implement the highlighting of GridView row on row click and retain the selected row on postback.  For simplicity I set up the page like this: <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>You have selected Row: (<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" />)</h2> <asp:HiddenField ID="hfCurrentRowIndex" runat="server"></asp:HiddenField> <asp:HiddenField ID="hfParentContainer" runat="server"></asp:HiddenField> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" onclick="Button1_Click" Text="Trigger Postback" /> <asp:GridView ID="grdCustomer" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false" onrowdatabound="grdCustomer_RowDataBound"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="Company" HeaderText="Company" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Name" HeaderText="Name" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Title" HeaderText="Title" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Address" HeaderText="Address" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> </asp:Content>   Note: Since the action is done at the client-side, when we do a postback like (clicking on a button) the page will be re-created and you will lose the highlighted row. This is normal because the the server doesn't know anything about the client/browser not unless if you do something to notify the server that something has changed. To persist the settings we will use some HiddenFields control to store the data so that when it postback we can reference the value from there. Now here’s the JavaScript functions below: <asp:content id="Content1" runat="server" contentplaceholderid="HeadContent"> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript">       var prevRowIndex;       function ChangeRowColor(row, rowIndex) {           var parent = document.getElementById(row);           var currentRowIndex = parseInt(rowIndex) + 1;                 if (prevRowIndex == currentRowIndex) {               return;           }           else if (prevRowIndex != null) {               parent.rows[prevRowIndex].style.backgroundColor = "#FFFFFF";           }                 parent.rows[currentRowIndex].style.backgroundColor = "#FFFFD6";                 prevRowIndex = currentRowIndex;                 $('#<%= Label1.ClientID %>').text(currentRowIndex);                 $('#<%= hfParentContainer.ClientID %>').val(row);           $('#<%= hfCurrentRowIndex.ClientID %>').val(rowIndex);       }             $(function () {           RetainSelectedRow();       });             function RetainSelectedRow() {           var parent = $('#<%= hfParentContainer.ClientID %>').val();           var currentIndex = $('#<%= hfCurrentRowIndex.ClientID %>').val();           if (parent != null) {               ChangeRowColor(parent, currentIndex);           }       }          </script> </asp:content>   The ChangeRowColor() is the function that sets the background color of the selected row. It is also where we set the previous row and rowIndex values in HiddenFields.  The $(function(){}); is a short-hand for the jQuery document.ready event. This event will be fired once the page is posted back to the server that’s why we call the function RetainSelectedRow(). The RetainSelectedRow() function is where we referenced the current selected values stored from the HiddenFields and pass these values to the ChangeRowColor() function to retain the highlighted row. Finally, here’s the code behind part: protected void grdCustomer_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow) { e.Row.Attributes.Add("onclick", string.Format("ChangeRowColor('{0}','{1}');", e.Row.ClientID, e.Row.RowIndex)); } } The code above is responsible for attaching the javascript onclick event for each row and call the ChangeRowColor() function and passing the e.Row.ClientID and e.Row.RowIndex to the function. Here’s the sample output below:   That’s it! I hope someone find this post useful! Technorati Tags: jQuery,GridView,JavaScript,TipTricks

    Hi When i am trying to export data from gridview to excelML I am getting error like RegisterRequiresControlState can only be called before and during PreRender. I dont know why it is happening. Please help me to sove this issue. Here is my sample code. I didnt implement any prerender method in my code. If i need to implement what should i write in that. protected void Button4_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { ConfigureExport(); RadGrid1.ExportSettings.Excel.Format = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelExportFormat.ExcelML; CheckBox1.Checked = true; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.ExportOnlyData = true; RadGrid1.MasterTableView.ExportToExcel(); } public void ConfigureExport() { RadGrid1.ExportSettings.ExportOnlyData = CheckBox1.Checked; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.IgnorePaging = CheckBox2.Checked; RadGrid1.ExportSettings.OpenInNewWindow = CheckBox3.Checked; } protected void RadGrid1_ExcelMLExportRowCreated(object source, Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLRowCreatedArgs e) { if (e.RowType == Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLRowType.DataRow) { if (e.Row.Cells[0] != null && ((string)e.Row.Cells[0].Data.DataItem).Contains("U")) { e.Row.Cells[0].StyleValue = "MyCustomStyle"; e.Worksheet.Name = "comcast"; } } } protected void RadGrid1_ExcelMLExportStylesCreated(object source, Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.GridExportExcelMLStyleCreatedArgs e) { foreach (Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement style in e.Styles) { if (style.Id == "headerStyle") { style.FontStyle.Bold = true; style.FontStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Gainsboro; style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Wheat; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } else if (style.Id == "itemStyle") { style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.WhiteSmoke; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } else if (style.Id == "alternatingItemStyle") { style.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.LightGray; style.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; } } Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement myStyle = new Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.StyleElement("MyCustomStyle"); myStyle.FontStyle.Bold = true; myStyle.FontStyle.Italic = true; myStyle.InteriorStyle.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Gray; myStyle.InteriorStyle.Pattern = Telerik.Web.UI.GridExcelBuilder.InteriorPatternType.Solid; e.Styles.Add(myStyle); }

  • EPPlus - .xlsx is locked for editing by 'another user'

    - by AdamTheITMan
    I have searched through every possible answer on SO for a solution, but nothing has worked. I am basically creating an excel file from a database and sending the results to the response stream using EPPlus(OpenXML). The following code gives me an error when trying to open my generated excel sheet "[report].xlsx is locked for editing by 'another user'." It will open fine the first time, but the second time it's locked. Dim columnData As New List(Of Integer) Dim rowHeaders As New List(Of String) Dim letter As String = "B" Dim x As Integer = 0 Dim trendBy = context.Session("TRENDBY").ToString() Dim dateHeaders As New List(Of String) dateHeaders = DirectCast(context.Session("DATEHEADERS"), List(Of String)) Dim DS As New DataSet DS = DirectCast(context.Session("DS"), DataSet) Using excelPackage As New OfficeOpenXml.ExcelPackage Dim excelWorksheet = excelPackage.Workbook.Worksheets.Add("Report") 'Add title to the top With excelWorksheet.Cells("B1") .Value = "Account Totals by " + If(trendBy = "Months", "Month", "Week") .Style.Font.Bold = True End With 'add date headers x = 2 'start with letter B (aka 2) For Each Header As String In dateHeaders With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "2") .Value = Header .Style.HorizontalAlignment = OfficeOpenXml.Style.ExcelHorizontalAlignment.Right .AutoFitColumns() End With x = x + 1 letter = Helper.GetColumnIndexToColumnLetter(x) Next 'Adds the descriptive row headings down the left side of excel sheet x = 0 For Each DC As DataColumn In DS.Tables(0).Columns If (x < DS.Tables(0).Columns.Count) Then rowHeaders.Add(DC.ColumnName) End If Next Dim range = excelWorksheet.Cells("A3:A30") range.LoadFromCollection(rowHeaders) 'Add the meat and potatoes of report x = 2 For Each dTable As DataTable In DS.Tables columnData.Clear() For Each DR As DataRow In dTable.Rows For Each item As Object In DR.ItemArray columnData.Add(item) Next Next letter = Helper.GetColumnIndexToColumnLetter(x) excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "3").LoadFromCollection(columnData) With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "3") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "4:" + letter + "6)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "7") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "8:" + letter + "11)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "12") .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "13") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "14:" + letter + "20)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "21") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "22:" + letter + "23)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "24") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "25:" + letter + "26)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "27") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "28:" + letter + "29)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With With excelWorksheet.Cells(letter + "30") .Formula = "=SUM(" + letter + "3," + letter + "7," + letter + "12," + letter + "13," + letter + "21," + letter + "24," + letter + "27)" .Style.Font.Bold = True .Style.Font.Size = 12 End With x = x + 1 Next range.AutoFitColumns() 'send it to response Using stream As New MemoryStream(excelPackage.GetAsByteArray()) context.Response.Clear() context.Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet" context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=filetest.xlsx") context.Response.OutputStream.Write(stream.ToArray(), 0, stream.ToArray().Length) context.Response.Flush() context.Response.Close() End Using End Using

  • SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers returns server names but not instance names (but only on one

    - by Matma
    Hi, There are a number of questions about this and a number of possible causes and thus far ive tried them all with no success. situation: i have an app that needs a db to work, onstartup it does a SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers(false) to get all the instances on the network, shows the user a dropdown, they pick one and i go connect to my db on that server. all good problem: this works on my machine, the guys next to me and others. HOWEVER it doesnt work on one of the tech guys machines (and potentially others). we are all on the same network domain, physically connected (no wireless), all logged on with network user names, all running the same sql express 2005 sp3, though im using win7 the other guys are running xppro. MSSMS on all machines can see all the instances when you select "Browse for more". yet on this one tech guys machine it lists his local instance (since its hardcoded to) and all the network servers, but has no instances names? i.e. .sqlexpress server1 server2 server3 server4 but on my machine and others we get: .sqlexpress server1/sqlexpress server2/sqlexpress server3/sqlexpress server4/sqlexpress the code im using: ' .... some code ' this populates my datatable dtServers = SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers(False) '.... some code '.... then later i ShowServers(...) Private dtServers As DataTable = Nothing Private Sub ShowServers(ByVal SQLInstance As String) ' Create a DataTable where we enumerate the available servers cmbServer.Items.Clear() cmbDatabase.Items.Clear() ' If there are any (network listed) servers at all If (dtServers.Rows.Count > 0) Then ' Loop through each server in the DataTable For Each drServer As DataRow In dtServers.Rows ' Add the name to the combobox cmbServer.Items.Add(drServer("Server") & "\" & drServer("Instance")) Next End If 'To make life simpler (add the local instance of sql express): cmbServer.Items.Add(SQLInstance) ' select first item If cmbServer.Items.Count > 0 Then cmbServer.SelectedIndex = 0 End If End Sub now i know this uses udp and its not 100%, but how come his machine is 100% consistent in not showing remote instances, and mine is 100 consistent showing them. even a udl file on his desktop cant see them, regarldess of provider i choose to use? some of the suggestions are to uninstall and re-install, but that doesnt seem like a solution as i (and most others) can see the instances, but one guy cant. this suggests its not the remote sql server but rather the local machine. Notes: ive tried firewall 1433, 1434 i can connect using a udl with full SERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME the browser service is running locally and on the remote machine ive tried stopping and restarting both the browser service on the local and remote machine. Ideas?

    The problem: combobox is databound to a DataView, first item in the dataview is DataRowView whose fields are DBNull.Value; Combo DropdownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDownList Loads fine, displays fine, selects fine, problem is to Unselect via code. Setting the SelectedIndex to 0 throws an exception. (Setting to -1 is a no-no as per msdn doco that says dont set SelectedIndex=-1 if databound) So how to unselect without throwing an exception ? For now i wrapped it into a try/catch to just ignore the error! EDIT: As asked by Hubeza, i worked on sample code to post. Did a stripped down version of the original code in C# (original is in VB.NET) and could NOT reproduce it either. Converted to VB.NET and could NOT reproduce it either ! In other words, SelectedIndex = 0 does work in the stripped down version! Currently further investigating what else could be wrong with the original code. EDIT2: Case Closed. Call me a stupid fool if you like, and apologies for wasting anyone's time - The error was originating from MyComboBox_SelectedIndexChanged event, which i neglected to check ! May as well post the sample in case anyone finds useful. private void LoadComboMethod() { DataTable dtFruit = new DataTable("FruitTable"); //define columns DataColumn colID = new DataColumn(); colID.DataType = typeof(Int32); //VB.NET GetType(Int32) colID.ColumnName = "ID"; DataColumn colDesc = new DataColumn(); colDesc.DataType = typeof(String); colDesc.ColumnName = "Description"; //add columns to table dtFruit.Columns.AddRange(new DataColumn[] { colID, colDesc }); //add rows DataRow row = dtFruit.NewRow(); row[colID] = 1; row[colDesc] = "Apples"; dtFruit.Rows.Add(row); row = dtFruit.NewRow(); row[colID] = 1; row[colDesc] = "Bananas"; dtFruit.Rows.Add(row); row = dtFruit.NewRow(); row[colID] = 1; row[colDesc] = "Oranges"; dtFruit.Rows.Add(row); //add extra blank row. DataRowView drv = dtFruit.DefaultView.AddNew(); drv.EndEdit(); //Bind combo box DataView dv = new DataView(dtFruit); dv.Sort = "ID ASC"; //ensure blank item on top cboFruit.DataSource = dv; cboFruit.DisplayMember = "Description"; cboFruit.ValueMember = "ID"; } private void UnselectComboMethod() { if (cboFruit.SelectedIndex > 0) { cboFruit.SelectedIndex = 0; } else { MessageBox.Show("no fruit selected"); } }

  • Checkbox has the wrong values

    - by Praesagus
    I have a page with several checkboxes on it, along with a dropdownlist of users. The checkboxes correlate to the user's permissions so each user is different. When a different user is chosen, the check boxes should change to match that user's permissions. The codebehind is correct, I stepped through it and the checkbox.checked value is being assigned to the box with the correct value to match the user. chk.Checked = viewable; No matter what I assign to the checked property the value stays the same as the very first submittal. I tried chk.EnableViewState = false; but that did not help. I am sure it is dot net trying to be helpful (grrr). Thank you for your help. There is no databinding per se. I will be saving the values from the textboxes via xmlhttp when the user clicks on them. I never want the check boxes to fill with values other than what I give them. Here is the essence of the code. foreach (DataRow dRow in dTable.Rows) { viewable = Convert.ToBoolean(dRow["Viewable"]); table.Rows.Add(CreatePageRow(Convert.ToString(dRow["SitePageViewName"]), Convert.ToString(dRow["SitePageName"]), folderDepth, maxFolderDepth, viewable)); } FileTree.Controls.Add(table); private TableRow CreatePageRow(String ViewName, String FileName, Int32 folderDepth, Int32 maxFolderDepth, Boolean viewable) { TableRow tr = new TableRow(); tr.Cells.Add(CreateCheckboxCell(viewable, folderDepth+3)); tr.Cells.Add(CreateImageCell("/images/icon/sm/report_graph.gif", "Page: " + ViewName)); tr.Cells.Add(CreateTitleCell(ViewName, maxFolderDepth - (folderDepth+1), FileName)); return tr; } private TableCell CreateCheckboxCell(Boolean viewable, Int32 colSpan) { TableCell td = new TableCell(); if (colSpan > 1) td.ColumnSpan = colSpan; CheckBox chk = new CheckBox(); chk.Checked = viewable; chk.EnableViewState = false; td.Controls.Add(chk); td.CssClass = "right"; return td; }

  • fill gridview cell-by-cell

    - by raging_boner
    I want to populate GridView below with images: <asp:GridView ID="GrdDynamic" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <Columns> </Columns> </asp:GridView> The code below iterates through directory, then I collect image titles and want them to be populated in gridview. code in bold is not working well, gridview is only filled with the last image in list. List<string> imagelist = new List<string>(); protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { foreach (String image in Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("example/"))) { imagelist.Add("~/example/" + Path.GetFileName(image)); } loadDynamicGrid(imagelist); } private void loadDynamicGrid(List<string> list) { DataTable dt = new DataTable(); DataColumn dcol = new DataColumn(NAME, typeof(System.String)); dt.Columns.Add(dcol); dcol = new DataColumn("NAME1", typeof(System.String)); dt.Columns.Add(dcol); dcol = new DataColumn("NAME2", typeof(System.String)); dt.Columns.Add(dcol); dcol = new DataColumn("NAME3", typeof(System.String)); dt.Columns.Add(dcol); DataRow drow = dt.NewRow(); dt.Rows.Add(); dt.Rows.Add(); **for (int i = 0; i < dt.Rows.Count; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < dt.Columns.Count; j++) { foreach (string value in list) { dt.Rows[i][j] = value; } } }** foreach (DataColumn col in dt.Columns) { ImageField bfield = new ImageField(); bfield.DataImageUrlField = NAME; bfield.HeaderText = col.ColumnName; GrdDynamic.Columns.Add(bfield); } GrdDynamic.DataSource = dt; GrdDynamic.DataBind(); } how to fill gridview cell-by-cell only with available amount of images? i know it is easy, i tried various methods like: dt.Rows.Add(list); and some other attempts, but they didn't work. i'm very stupid. i'd be glad for any help.

  • GridView paging inside an UpdatePanel or PlaceHolder components

    - by John
    Hello, I'm new to ASP.NET. Im developing ASP.NET C# web form which creating GridView components dynamically and filling them using the data received from my webservice. I'm creating these GridView components programmatically in server-side (cs file)- it has to be flexible - 1 GridView and sometimes 10 GridView components. The problem occurs when I'm trying to add pagination - whenever the user clicks the "next" page, the whole page is getting refreshed because of a postBack and I'm loosing all my data and the page returns Blank/Empty. I used PlaceHolder to hold the GridView components, while searching for a solution, I found UpdatePanel as a better alternative - as far as I understand the page can be partially refreshed - which means that only the UpdatePanel has to be refreshed...but it doesn't work. The following code sample is my TEST, the UpdatePanel is the only component initiated in the client side (aspx page), the rest initiated programmatically in CS. how can I solve the issue described above? Why does the whole page is getting refreshed and I'm loosing my data? can you recommend another way? can provide me with any code sample? If I'm not rebuilding the GridView, it doesn't work... Here is my Default.aspx.cs: public partial class TestAjaxForm : System.Web.UI.Page { DataTable table; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) bindGridView(); } public void bindGridView() { GridView gridView1 = new GridView(); gridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true; gridView1.PageSize = 2; gridView1.AllowPaging = true; gridView1.PagerSettings.Mode = PagerButtons.Numeric; gridView1.PagerSettings.Position = PagerPosition.Bottom; gridView1.PagerSettings.PageButtonCount = 10; gridView1.PageIndexChanging += new GridViewPageEventHandler(this.GridView1_PageIndexChanging); table = new DataTable(); table.Columns.Add("FirstName"); table.Columns.Add("LastName"); DataRow row = table.NewRow(); row["FirstName"] = "John"; row["LastName"] = "Johnoson"; table.Rows.Add(row); row = table.NewRow(); row["FirstName"] = "Johnny"; row["LastName"] = "Marley"; table.Rows.Add(row); row = table.NewRow(); row["FirstName"] = "Kate"; row["LastName"] = "Li"; table.Rows.Add(row); panel.ContentTemplateContainer.Controls.Add(gridView1); gridView1.DataSource = table; gridView1.DataBind(); } protected void GridView1_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { GridView gridView1 = (GridView)sender; gridView1.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex; gridView1.DataSource = table; gridView1.DataBind(); } } Please help me, Thank you.

  • How to properly set a datatable to an gridview in code with an ObjectDataSource?

    - by Xaisoft
    Hello, I have an ObjectDataSource with an ID of ObjectDataSource1 on a webpage. I also have a gridview in which I am binding the ObjectDataSource.ID to the GridView.DataSourceID. The problem I get is when text is changed in a textbox, the code calls BrokerageTransactions.GetAllWithDt which returns a DataTable. I want to set this datatable as the DataSource for the GridView, but it is telling me that I can't set the DataSouce and DataSourceId together. How can I fix this? Code is below. Also. Why can't you set a DataSourceID and a DataSource when using an ObjectDataSource? Thanks, X protected void BrokerageChange(Object sender, EventArgs e) { BrokerageTransactions brokerageaccountdetails = new BrokerageTransactions(); DataSet ds = BrokerageAccount.GetBrkID2(new Guid(Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString()), ddlBrokerageDetails.SelectedItem.Text.ToString()); foreach (DataRow dr in ds.Tables[0].Rows) { brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId = new Guid(dr["BrkrgId"].ToString()); } ddlBrokerageDetails.SelectedItem.Value = brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId.ToString(); if (txtTransactionsTo.Text != "" && txtTransactionsFrom.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)>Convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text) + "',System.DateTime) and Convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)<convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text.ToString()) + "',System.DateTime)"; else if (txtTransactionsFrom.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)>convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text) + "',System.DateTime)"; else if (txtTransactionsTo.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime) <convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text.ToString()) + "',System.DateTime)"; else ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = " "; grvBrokerage.DataSourceID = ObjectDataSource1.ID; grvBrokerage.DataBind(); DateTime dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime("1/1/1900"); DateTime dtTransTo = System.DateTime.Today; //TransactionsTo Box is Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length > 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length < 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text); dtTransTo = System.DateTime.Today; } //TransactionsFrom Box is Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length < 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length > 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime("1/1/1900"); dtTransTo = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text); } //TransactionsFrom Box and TransactionsTo Box is Not Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length > 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length > 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text); dtTransTo = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text); } // Fails Here grvBrokerage.DataSource = BrokerageTransactions.GetAllWithDt(brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId, dtTransFrom, dtTransTo); grvBrokerage.DataBind(); }

  • How to add an XML parameter to a stored procedure in C#?

    I am developing a C# web application in VS 2008 which interacts with my Adventureworks database in my SQL Server 2008. • Data Access Layer - static list objects and caching

    - by Truegilly
    Hello, i am devloping a site using .net MVC i have a data access layer which basically consists of static list objects that are created from data within my database. The method that rebuilds this data first clears all the list objects. Once they are empty it then add the data. Here is an example of one of the lists im using. its a method which generates all the UK postcodes. there are about 50 methods similar to this in my application that return all sorts of information, such as towns, regions, members, emails etc. public static List<PostCode> AllPostCodes = new List<PostCode>(); when the rebuild method is called it first clears the list. ListPostCodes.AllPostCodes.Clear(); next it re-bulilds the data, by calling the GetAllPostCodes() method /// <summary> /// static method that returns all the UK postcodes /// </summary> public static void GetAllPostCodes() { using (fab_dataContextDataContext db = new fab_dataContextDataContext()) { IQueryable AllPostcodeData = from data in db.PostCodeTables select data; IDbCommand cmd = db.GetCommand(AllPostcodeData); SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(); adapter.SelectCommand = (SqlCommand)cmd; DataSet dataSet = new DataSet(); cmd.Connection.Open(); adapter.FillSchema(dataSet, SchemaType.Source); adapter.Fill(dataSet); cmd.Connection.Close(); // crete the objects foreach (DataRow row in dataSet.Tables[0].Rows) { PostCode postcode = new PostCode(); postcode.ID = Convert.ToInt32(row["PostcodeID"]); postcode.Outcode = row["OutCode"].ToString(); postcode.Latitude = Convert.ToDouble(row["Latitude"]); postcode.Longitude = Convert.ToDouble(row["Longitude"]); postcode.TownID = Convert.ToInt32(row["TownID"]); AllPostCodes.Add(postcode); postcode = null; } } } The rebuild occurs every 1 hour. this ensures that every 1 hour the site will have fresh set of cached data. the issue ive got is that occasionally if during a rebuild, the server will be hit by a request and an exception is thrown. The exception is "Index was outside the bounds of the array." it is due to when a list is being cleared. ListPostCodes.AllPostCodes.Clear(); - // throws exception - although its not always in regard to this list. Once this exception is thrown application dies, All users are affected. I have to restart the server to fix it. i have 2 questions... If i utilise caching instead of static objects would this help ? Is there any way i can say "while the rebuild is taking place, wait for it to complete until accepting requests" any help is most appricaiated ;) truegilly
