    Although it was not supported on older versions, now as of EECS 2.0.6, an Exalogic rack can be configured in a mixed-mode: half virtual and half physical Linux: Flexibility to have physical and virtual environments on same rack. For example, production on physical and test/dev on virtual. Exalogic Control manages the virtual compute nodes on the rack. Physical compute nodes are managed manually (including PKeys). Option to change full physical to hybrid and hybrid to full virtual rack. User has an option to choose either the top or bottom nodes for physical or virtual deployment. For further information about how the compute nodes can be split up on the rack (into bottom or top half) to run either Oracle Virtual Server (OVS "hypervisor") or Oracle Linux, please take a look at MOS Note 1536945.1. Note: Solaris is not yet supported in the mixed configuration.

  • Problems in detecting pen drive

    First of all, I don't have an issue with detecting my pen drive on 32-bit ubuntu 12.04. It can detect my pen drive very fast when plug in. Then, I bought a laptop installed with windows 7 64-bit operating system. I have decided to installed ubuntu alongside with win7. To be precise, I installed uBuntu 12.04.3 64-bit. It appears that every time I plug in my pen drive, it is either very slow automatically mount. It is even worst that the pen drive won't mount when plug in to usb 3.0 port. Anyone? UPDATE: My laptop can detect pen drive now either 3.0 or 2.0 port. The question is why the pen drive very slow shows up?

  • Algorithm for determining grid based on variably sized "blocks"?

    I'm trying to convert a set of "blocks" in to a grid-like layout. The blocks have a width of either 25%, 33%, 50%, 66%, or 75% of their container and each row of the grid should try to fit as many blocks as possible, up to a total width of 100%. I've discovered that trying to do this while leaving no remaining blocks in the original set is very hard. Eventually, I think my solution will be to upgrade/downgrade various block sizes (based on their priority or something) so they all fit in to a row. Either case, before I do that, I thought I'd check if someone has some code (or a paper) demonstrating a solution to this problem already? And bonus points if the solution incorporates varying block heights in to its calculations :) Thanks!

  • Cannot find other computers on the network

    I have several issues trying to connect to my network. This is not the problem connecting to the Internet through the same router. All my computers are running Windows 7, Vista and XP Pro. I can't see them and they can't see me either. I've already install Ubuntu Studio 11.10 three times and still not showing the network icon at all. I'm new to UBUNTU and LINUX in general. I can't find my group name either.

    I created a custom Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 desktop based distro using remastersys, but whenever I try to boot using the iso file in vmware, it shows this error : no ui or default configuration found I've tried changing the name of isolinux to syslinux but that didnt help me either! I also tried using unetbootin but it also doesnt boot, and tried every possible but to no avail. There is a similar question but it is about 10.10 and 32 bit, but that didnt solve my query and also as this is a custom distro, the solution could be different. I've also tried creating images using remastersys again and again but that wont help either. Please help me its very urgent!

    I want to write a game as my final year diploma project.(I'm a 4th-year-student now so I've got a year and several months). But I don't know what to choose: either write my own game engine using DirectX9(10)(I don't like OpenGL) or use OGRE + PhysX(Don't like Unity) I'm more interested in writing my own game engine(but I wonder if I'll create engine on the same level as even Unreal 1.0 hah) but on the other side with PhysX I'll have advanced physics in my game and with OGRE I'll have good grahics. For 3d models I want to use Maya. What do you advise me to choose? As for me I've got a little DirectX experience,not bad C++ programming skills(but not expert's) and a little knowledge of Maya. My English isn't perfect either hah...

  • What do you do when a user asks for a feature you will not implement?

    What do you do when a user asks for a complex feature that you could implement, but you aren't going to do it because 1) it adds unnecessary complexity to other users 2) you are not going to do it as an option either because you don't want your settings panel to be complicated. I wrote an iOS app and there are a few users that asked me for some complex features that I can't do because of the reasons above. Most of the times I just answered them that "We will take that into consideration." Explaining them that they are in the minority that wants this feature is not going to help either. So, what do you do in the case like this?

  • How to install aircrack on Ubuntu 12.04

    I have downloaded the tar.gz package from the site and then I have extracted using tar -zxvf command as mentioned over there. After that I used sudo apt-get install build-essential then I further installed libssl-dev. Then I changed directory to the aircrack folder. But when I type either sudo make or just make I am getting this same error. I don't know what to do. I have installed the file what they have asked in the error as well. Still the same error is shown. Okay I am not permitted to upload images. The error is : common.mak:85: *** Cannot find development files for any supported version of libnl. install either libnl1 or libnl3.. Stop.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 hasa no wireless connectivity on Dell Inspiron 1520

    I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time ever. I have just installed it in a Dell Inspiron 1520 that came pre installed with Windows Vista and i currently run both of the OS (I just choose when the computer starts up). The wifi definitely works on the computer since i used it to download Ubuntu in the first place when I was using Vista. The Network Manager says that I only have a 'Wired' Network and it doesn't have any other options to choose from. I connected the Laptop into a wired connection and downloaded the 'Wicd Network Manager' but it had no effect either. From there I continued to go into 'Software Sources' and installed the wireless drive but that had no effect either. So... What can I do?

  • Apache log rotation: logrotate vs rotatelogs vs chronolog

    I have been researching log rotation for my server which hosts ~5 fairly high traffic sites. From what I can tell, my options are to use logrotate or to use piped logging with either rotatelogs or chronolog. logrotate requires a restart of apache and both SIGHUP and SIGUSR1 restarts are less than ideal on high traffic sites, because either you drop a bunch of connections or you need to delay compressing the old log until all child processes have died naturally. Also, downtime can be quite significant if compression is enabled. Would using logrotate - without compression and with graceful restart - and compressing old logs after the fact be the best way to minimize downtime? chronolog and rotatelogs sound promising, but are not well documented. I couldn't find examples of using either in combination with vhost specific logs. The chronolog website says, "when the expanded filename changes, the current file is closed and a new one opened". Is this globally? Or is that per AccessLog, CustomLog or ErrorLog directive? Is there a significant difference between chronolog and rotatelogs?

  • Updating a backup image (.wim and/or Acronis .tib)

    Anyways, I've got a Windows 7 installation that I want to make a generalized backup image of so I can use it for future installs on not only my desktop from which the image is to be derived from, but also other systems with dissimilar hardware. Therefore I've arrived at either 2 options, using either sysprep/imagx from WAIK (guide here), or the simpler Acronis True Image w/ their Universal Restore addon. Of course, they create distinct image file types, .wim and .tib respectively. What I'd like to do is to periodically update this image, say with Windows Updates, by booting it to either a physical partition or using virtualization (VirtualBox/VMWare), perform the updates, and save the updated .wim or .tib image file again. What's the simplest way I could do this? Another question is, I created this generalized backup image on a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM HDD. Say I get an SSD as an OS drive in the future, can I just deploy this backup image to the SSD normally, or are there any potential problems to be aware/avoid (ie. is it best to completely reinstall the OS on the SSD from scratch, or can I use the image created on the normal HDD with no issue)?     Help. File transfer and connection speed to our Xserve are painfully slow from newly purchased iMacs. The Xserve is only used as a file server, its running 10.4.11. The problem seems to be only happening on brand new iMacs running 10.6.3. When connected either over afp or smb copying files is many times slower than usual. Other machines on the network running either 10.4 or 10.5 have a normal connection speed. To try to rule out OS incompatibility I connected the new iMac running 10.6 to another computer running 10.4 over the network. The file transfer speed was fast as normal. So it seems the problems lies with the X serve (maybe). The afp logs either access or error don't show anything unusual. One thing that did look different was when the imac was connected to the Xserve the user had its id listed as its IP address. The other machines connected, had the id of broadcasthost. I also noticed that when connected from the new iMac I can only see one of the mirrors. When any other computer connects both mirrors are shown. Tried a restart of the Xserve but the problem persists. Thanks in advance for any advice

  • Strange focus bug in Firefox (chrome vs content)

    Here is a strange bug I'm experiencing in Firefox: I can only use either the chrome, or the content, not both at the same time! For example, I can click on tabs and the toolbar icons, focus the search bar and write in it as well as the address bar, but if I try to click on anything in the content (eg a link or a textfield to write something), then nothing happens. The mouse pointer doesn't change either, it just stays a pointer when I hover over things, and the links I hover don't react either. But if I alt-tab to another program (or click on it in the taskbar), then back to Firefox, then I can use the area that I click on. So if I click somewhere on the webpage to get focus back to Firefox, then I can click on links and write things (like this text), but I cannot click on tabs or refresh or anything else in the chrome. I can't even click on the minimize, restore and close icons! To get focus back on the chrome I have to alt-tab to another program, and then click on the chrome to get back to Firefox to be able to use the chrome again. I've tried closing and starting it again, but the bug is still there. I have experienced this before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. This bug seems to occur sometimes when I wake up the computer from standby, but I leave by computer in standby all the time, so that is not the only factor.

    We have a few reports in SQL Server Reporting Services. For some reason when we run the report from the website, it doesn't return any data. When I run the same report from the Report Builder, it returns data.   • Restoring Windows 2008 Server X86 and X64

    Restoring Windows 2008 Server (Domain Controller) We are using Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to Image our DC. Now this software has a feature to convert the backup into a vmware or hyper-v VM I have also used disk2vhd to convert one of our dc's to a vhd and when I connected it into Hyper-V, it booted fine, I can login - BUT :-) As soon as I login, I get the activation error, that change product key, this product key isn't good for this machine etc. Question is : When in a real recovery situation, what would be the procedure to restore it either virtual or onto a physical box but be able to login and change product key etc ? In this scenario its just locked down and I cant' do anything, if this is the case, how would I replicate my production environment via these tools ? Any Ideas ? Will be grateful for some real world examples here. Same thing happens with our exchange backup / test restore either physical or virtual, can login but nothing else. Now we don't have the keys as they are OEM keys and just wondering what will happen in a real scenario, would we be purchasing another KEY or using the OEM key on our new server ? This is a test environment I am trying to create by restoring our backups either into hyper-v or physical test machines. Also, If I build up a machine (Server 2008) in a VM (Hyper-V), How can I restore just the system state backup of my DC into it ? will that give me the activation error too ? even though I would use the TRIAL ISOs provided by Microsoft ?   • What's the best way to completely remove everything from a computer, without re-installing?

    I have a friend who wants to sell their computer, but obviously all personal information and software that it is on it needs to be removed before doing so. Usually I would format and reinstall it, but I cannot easily get hold of the required XP DVDs and I'm not 100% sure the serial number is stuck on the case as usual so getting hold of it will probably require more effort than I'm prepared to spend. So, what's the best and quickest way to remove and uninstall everything from the PC without reinstalling it? Thanks. EDITS: I'm looking to remove things like Internet History and all installed programs, too. I know how to remove the history and each individual program, but that could take hours. The machine is not branded and therefore there is no website I can go to download recovery software. There is no recovery partition on the computer and I'm not aware of any recovery DVDs for it either. I can only assume it was installed from a retail copy, and therefore there is no way to recover it to factory settings. It needs to have XP installed, not any distribution of Linux. Like most average people, the person getting the computer will not understand what to do with a computer that doesn't have Windows installed, and software like Office does not work on Linux either. Buying another licence is not really an option either. She has just brought a laptop to replace the computer, so buying another licence for a computer that she's getting rid of doesn't really make sense. Thanks for all the help so far!

  • Why does HP Update at remote system trigger RDP printing at local system?

    This is obscure. When connected with RDP to another system that has HP Update installed on it, either directly running the HP Update or having the notification pop up to ask if you want to run HP Update causes the local system to try to print something to peculiarly-chosen-local-printer. Case 1: Desktop Win 7 Ult system RDP connected to HP Laptop Win 7 Ult system. When HP Update runs on the laptop a dialog for XPS Writer Save As... appears on Desktop system. Even if you put in a name, nothing gets generated and the dialog repeats. And repeats. Until you (a) close the RDP connection and (b) clean out the queued entries. If the HP Update pops up the request to run the update and you are not at the desk when this happens, there can be dozens of queued requests for this bogus printing. NOTE: the XPS Writer is not selected as a default printer on either system. Case 2: (Different) HP Laptop Win 7 Ult system RDP connected to XP Pro "brand X" desktop system but with HP printer drivers installed. If the request to run HP Update notification pops on the XP system, dozens of attempts to print, in this case to a Versa Check Printer driver, are queued. Dismissing the HP request, closing RDP, and cleaning out the queue are required to stop this. NOTE: the Versa Check Writer is not selected as a default printer on either system. THE QUESTION: What the heck is going on here? Some kind of scripting or COM activity that is misdirected?

  • Win7 'locking' process/files/folders?

    I've had a fair bit problems with sometimes files/folders/processes being 'locked' by Windows. The weird thing is, it's not like the traditional sense, I think, where tools like UnlockIT and wholockme would work. It seems that just giving it a little often helps - making me think it could either be the HDD, the memory, or something in Windows. A scenario: I go into a folder - don't open anything at all, go back up, cut or drag-move the folder to someplace else, it says "Action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". Waiting sometimes 20 seconds sometimes a little longer, and I can move it. Another scenario is deleting a bunch of files in a folder, and it appears that everything is gone, but then suddenly after a few seconds an .exe file pops back up, and I can't delete it. Waiting a few minutes, then pressing refresh and it's gone. I have the strangest feeling that there's a problem with either HDD or memory. I already tried disabling Windows indexing service with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas? EDIT: I should say, that I have a very fast system, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, i7-2600k CPU, SSD main HDD, so I really should not be experiencing any sort of problems, where one might say that it's "reasonable" for the system not to respond right away. Edit2: And I updated SSD firmware a couple months ago, so it shouldn't be bad release FW either

  • Can't detect hard drive on Macbook Pro

    I changed a few month ago the config of my Macbook Pro with the following: I bought a SSD hard drive I removed the hard drive of my Mac book Pro and installed there my brand new SSD Then I removed my DVD drive and installed my hold hard drive instead with a caddy Everything was working great until today when I couldn't access anymore to my old hard drive because it is not detected anymore. Sometimes Mac OSX is mounting it but it takes like 15 min to browse a simple folder. I opened my laptop to have a look at the problem. It seemed like the optical drive connector was not plugged correctly to the motherboard (that connector: http://cl.ly/2T0X2e1j0J1g47061d1t). So I plugged it correctly and reboot. It didn't fix my problem. Then I tried to put my SSD in the caddy and to boot: no hard drive was detected. So I guess there is something wrong either with the caddy, either with the optical drive connector, or either with the plug that is on the motherboard. So my question is, how can I know where the problem comes from?

  • 20 1TB drives vs. 10 2TB drives in RAID5/6 server

    Hi everyone, I will be setting up a server at work and I need some advice on some details. The setup will be one blade-type server (8-core, 16GB RAM) with two subsystems - one for the main storage the other to back it up. I'm shooting for a 20TB array (I know it'll be less after formatting and parity drives). So is there any advantage one way or the other with either 20 1TB drives or 10 2TB drives? I'm not sure right now how many controllers I should have either (in the quote I have is a dual-port controller). I would think two controllers for a server of this size would be a better choice than the dual-port controller (but I really don't know). And would an array of this size have any performance issues in RAID 5 or 6 (I know RAID 5 or 6 are "slower" because of all the parity calculations). Also, these will be either WD RE3 (1TB) or the RE4 (2TB). Oh, also, for the backup array would it be ok to use the WD 2TB green drives (also in RAID5 or 6)?
