• Buddypress with bbpress: Showing latest topics on front page

  I'm doing a wordpress solution with BuddyPress and bbPress, where I need to display the five newest topics on the homepage, as if it was blog-entries, but it seems kind of hard to accomplish. I'm figuring I gotta do something with the activity stream, but it seems like the stream is based on the user who is currently logged in, which is not what I want. So what should I do? Use a nifty plugin that does the trick (maybe someone knows a plugin I don't know of, as I've already tried the bbPress Latest Discussion plugin) Hardcode a forum-activity loop into the page-template file, using the is_front_page() function? Is there a forum-activity hook, that display the latest forum topics sitewide? Thanks in advance

When you build a method for connecting users, do you prefer to use a following-style system (follow me, you can see all of my information and I can just choose to follow you back), or instead do you choose to have a friends-style system (I have to allow you see all of my information on your homepage, even if it is open to the public, vise versa). Why and under what circumstances do you use each? How do you manage privacy between your users? Have you use another way to connect your users? Examples of what methods you've choose and how you manage the user's privacy (private by default vs open to the web) are awesome; it could show correlation and provides an actual look.

• Strange GTK3 issue with Audacious and Evince (Document Viewer)

  I find that, in some GTK3 apps such as Audacious and Evince (Document Viewer), parts of the UI are pure black, which looks ugly and out-of-place. It is not intentional, as the screenshots on both websites show the app looking different. I only have this issue with the Adwaita GTK theme, but since it comes with Gnome 3 and is the main theme these apps are designed for, I'm guessing the problem is not simply the theme having some bug (though the Ubuntu package might). I have had this issue on two laptops now, running both Ubuntu 12.04 and Xubunu 12.10 with Gnome Shell and Adwaita. The screenshots below show the problem: Audcious's is visible in the search area around the text box, and behind the playlist tabs, and Evince's is visible in more or less the same position and around the document itself. • How to diagnose a search engine ranking drop?

  EDIT: Reworded & Cleaned Up to Ease Understanding There has been a significant drop (90%) in traffic from Google to one of my well-established sites (6+ years) in the last week. Searches show that the top 3 wide keywords all dropped 4 spots. Searches for other keywords do not show ANY results in the first 10 to 25 pages of results, while previously one 1st or 2nd page at most. Since there are 200 factors for ranking, the question really is: What steps are necesary to figure out what caused such a drop? There has been no major changes during this period or the last month on the site and certainly not in the homepage which has dropped rank. Over all the years of running this site and plenty of others, I have never experienced this. There are no duplicate content on my site and I have rigorously used canonical links for the last few years to ensure it is not misinterpreted as such.

• Risk for hosting SEO links. [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: SEO drawbacks of having paid links without nofollow? A few companies are will to pay us for links on our homepage. I am assuming these are legitimate sites although they are unrelated to our sites content. Would google penalize our site for having these links? We definitely need the revenue and we view this as selling advertising space- but I don't want to kill our good ranking. Does anyone have any insight, is it possible to ask google directly?

• Wordpress theme for user generated content website

  I'm looking for a wordpress theme that I can work from. I'm basically creating a website like the following two http://www.damnyouautocorrect.com/ and http://icanhas.cheezburger.com/ - both are wordpress based websites which I guess are custom made themes. I'm looking for a theme that will let users enter content without beign logged in. Basically the post type has a title and a description and the name of the author. The homepage will show one post with a "Next" button. Clicking that will load the next post. The user content input just needs a title, description, and a name of the author. I'd also like to add voting up/down. I'm just asking first before I start hacking away at a theme.

• Showing All Pages in a SharePoint Wiki Library

  Opening a SharePoint wiki takes you to the wiki homepage, which is what most users want and expect.  Administrators, on the other hand, will occasionally need to see a full list of wiki pages in the wiki library.  Getting to this view is really easy, but you have to know where to look. The problem is that when viewing a wiki page SharePoint conveniently removes the Library tab from the ribbon, and the Library tab houses the controls you normally use to switch views.  Many an admin has been frustrated by the fact that they cannot get to this functionality.  A bit more searching, however, reveals that the Page tab in the ribbon contains a button in the Page Library group called View All Pages.  As the name suggests, clicking this button displays a document library style view all the pages in the wiki.  It also makes the Library tab available to switch views and gives administrators access to all of the standard Library tab functionality.

  Possible Duplicate: What is the best stucture of SEO friendly URL? I am working on a job board, and i'm trying to figure out a good design for URL structure. Some things that I have found through research: 100 - 150 Chars long is ideal 3-5 words in your url, according to Matt Cutts Use .htaccess to force clean urls Do not duplicate data (important) Clean and precise, describing the content Use hyphens On the homepage, I try to detect the users location based on IP, but this isn't always accurate, and not always reliable. So until they put in their city/location, I can't always use this structure but this is potentially work-able. For Searching, a form post to a results page: domain.com/jobs/[city]/[search] ie: domain.com/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ OR domain.com/search/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ or do I remove the word JOBS and just use Search. I trying to keep good search terms in the URL, but also keep it clean and concise. Can someone give me some feedback and thoughts to 'why'...

• SH404SEF URLs in Joomla 1.5

  I have two modules to play with urls, the global configuration module and the sh404sef module. The global config is set to "Sef urls: YES" and "mod rewrite enabled: YES" and the sh404sef is set "url optimization: NO". My problem is, even with "Sef urls" set in the global config, my urls still don't seem to be that "user friendly" so I turn on the "Url optimization" using the sh404sef module, and I get better descriptive urls. However, the problem I inherit from doing this is that my dynamically populated chronoforms get messed up (only the chrono forms, other forms are fine); These forms are now showing up at the homepage instead of their own reserved page. Here's an example: Old form "GOOD" url: http://www.mycraftwork.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94 New optimized "BAD" URL: http://www.mycraftwork.com/handthrown-pottery/alladin-teapot/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94 Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! • Optimizing data downloaded via 'link' media queries and asynchronous loading

  I have a website that tries to make sensible use of media queries and avoid 'expensive' CSS for users of mobile devices. My eventual goal is to make it 'mobile-first' but for now, since it is based on Twitter Bootstrap it isn't. I included some background images (Base64 encoded) and styles that would only apply to "full-size" browsers in a separate stylesheet loaded asynchronously via modernizr.load. In Firefox (but not webkit browsers) it makes it so that if you navigate away from the homepage and then return, the content (specifically, all those extras) 'blinks' when it finishes loading...or maybe I should say reloading. If, instead of using modernizr.load, I include that stylesheet via a link... in the head with a media query attribute will it prevent the data from being downloaded by non-matching browsers (mobile, based on screensize) that it is inapplicable to?

• Why "Fork me on github"?

  I understand how Github works, but one thing I've been confused about is, why almost every OSS project lately has a "Fork me on Github" link on their homepage. For example, http://jqtjs.com/, http://www.daviddurman.com/flexi-color-picker/, and others. Why is this so common? Is it that they want/need code validation, checking for security/performance improvements that they may not know how to do? Is it meant to show that this is a collaborative project - you're welcome to add improvements? Do they work for Github, or want to promote their service? Oddly enough, I don't think I've seen a "Fork project on Bitbucket" logo recently. My first reaction to that logo was that the project probably needs to be modified (forked) in order to integrate it with anything useful - or that they are encouraging fragmented codebase, encouraging everyone to make their own fork of the project. But I don't think that is the intent.

(2minutecv.com), but even after 6 weeks of the site up and running and conforming to the Google hash bang guidelines stated here, you can still see that Google still hasn't indexed the site yet. For example if you use Google to search for 2MinuteCV.com benefits it does not find this page which is referenced from the homepage. Can anyone tell me why Google isn't indexing this website? Update: Thanks for al lthe help with this answer. So just to make sure I understand what is wrong. According to the answers Google never actually indexes the pages after the Javascript has run. • Should the English website use href="x-default" when it doesn't auto-redirect to the user's language or country?

  For each URL on my site, I'm auto-redirecting according to header accept language. The site arch is English version: http://mydomain.com/page Spanish version http://es.mydomaina.com/page etc.. The english version is displayed unless I'm seeing a specific language other than en and that I support in the header, and then a redirect occurs. Google says this: For language/country selectors or auto-redirecting homepages, you should add an annotation for the hreflang value "x-default" as well: My pages aren't language selectors, nor are they the homepage. But I am auto-redirecting. My question is, should my english version be hreflang="x-default" or/and hrefland="en"?
