• Where in the registry are application registered hotkeys stored?

  I need to find in the registry the key that is holding the hotkey CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-E. This is normally a keyboard shortcut in Photoshop, but I installed some program that did a global override of this sequence. I have uninstalled that program, but it did not clean up after itself. So, where can I find this in the registry, I just want to delete this key so the global override won't affect Photoshop anymore. I've google'd the crap out of this, there are various program that claim to assist, but none of them work.

• External monitor on old Dell 700m?

  Okay, linux noob. I installed 10.04 on an old Dell 700m in hopes of using it as a media center device. That seems to work great, except now it won't output to the external monitor. VGA cable works fine, TV recognizes other computers fine, it's the laptop that won't output. Turns out that the 700m, unlike every other computer out there, doesn't have a Fn hotkey to switch monitors. The only way to do it in Windows was to go through the Control Panel. In Ubuntu, though, the Monitor setup won't detect or recognize any monitors. The laptop display works fine, but I can't adjust or add anything. I did a little research and found suggestions for older Ubuntu builds involving the xorg.conf. I tried one out, in spite of my unfamiliarity, and it's screwed the whole display big time. I can fix that with a clean reinstall, that's no problem, but I'm cautious about editing xorg again. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  Whenever I need to access data stored in the TrueCrypt-protected volume on my MacBook, I need to start TrueCrypt from the Dock, select the volume file, click mount, enter the password and then open a Finder window and browse to the volume. I want a quicker way, e.g. double-click something on the desktop (and/or press a hotkey combination), enter the password and have a Finder window pop up. I have done an extensive research on the TrueCrypt website, Apple Automator and some other approaches, but nothing really seems come up. Has anyone realized the approach described ?

• Shortcut for "show in folder" in Windows 7

  I'm new to Windows (former Mac user) and using Windows 7 for about two months now. I almost exclusively use the taskbar to navigate to files (i.e., I press the Win/meta key and start typing... my libraries and naming conventions make it pretty easy to get the correct file). Then I press enter and the file opens. Awesome. But sometimes I want to see the file in its folder (i.e., maybe I want to rename, move, copy, etc.). To do this I need to mouse/trackpad over and right click to get the "show in folder" options. Is there another way short of searching for the folder name instead? Is there a hotkey/shortcut for "show in folder"? Thanks!

  Is autohotkey capable of interpreting hotkeys in the style of Ctrl + Shift + W, W? I would assume a script like the following would work: ^+W:: ; Windows hotkeys (Ctrl + Shift + W) O:: Run Outlook ; Subsequent 'o' pressed => Run outlook E:: Run Explorer ; return From the documentation I note that these are called vertically stacked hotkeys and cause each line to perform the same action. In the case above, I think Ctrl+Shift+W and o will both cause outlook to be launched, whereas pressing e would cause explorer to be launched. What I would like is Ctrl+Shift+W, O runs outlook and Ctrl+Shift+W, e runs windows explorer. Is there any way to cause a hotkey to perform context specific actions (much like in Eclipse), where I can press Ctrl+Shift+W to activate a block of specific hotkeys?

• How do I debug why an OSX key binding stopped working?

  Recently, I've realized that my ^A key binding has stopped working in OSX. My assumption is that some application has registered ^A as a hotkey, but I don't know that for certain. I don't recall installing anything new lately, but it's certainly possible that I did and just forgot. Some other pertinent info: ^A doesn't work in any application -- this isn't just a Terminal.app issue Other control combos (eg: ^E) still work as expected Looking through the Keyboard System Preferences pane shows nothing bound to ^A A reboot doesn't help However, logging into under a freshly made account does cause the issue to go away (i.e.: ^A works for the test account) My StandardKeyBinding.dict has the correct value for ^A Note: I don't have a DefaultKeyBinding.dict in /Library/KeyBindings or ~/Library/KeyBindings Any ideas on how to debug this?

• Binding a property to change the listbox items foreground individually for each item

  I'm trying to change the foreground color of the items in the ListBox individually for each item, I've already posted a similar question but this one is more concrete. I hoped that the state of the color is reserved for each item added to the ListBox, so I tried to create a property (in this case "HotkeysForeground"), bind it and change the color when the items are added in the "HotkeyManager_NewHotkey" event, the problem it's changing the foreground color for all the items in the ListBox. How can I do that per item ? • How can I have HTML tab expansion in ST2 w/ Emmet inside Handlebars templates(emberjs)?

  Okay, so I'm using Sublime Text 2 with Emmet. But "Tab" expansion of HTML snippets doesn't work inside a script because of the scope. Example: In HTML, I can type "h1" and then hit tab, and it will generate "" When using Ember.js, and more specifically Handlebars, it doesn't work. <script type="text/x-handlebars"> h1 </script> Pressing tab after that "h1" doesn't expand it because it's inside a script; Emmet turns this off. I can press Ctrl+E, which is the "expand anywhere" hotkey, and that works just fine. However, that is uncomfortable and prone to missing and hitting things like Ctrl+S or Ctrl+D which have undesired effects. So, how can I change this? • How do I trap the ENTER key in WM 6.1 using C++

  Hi,Our barcode scanner application is written in C++ eMbedded V 4.00 and works well on the Motorola MC50 WM5 where the ENTER key is interpreted as an IDOK. We are moving the app to the MC55 with WM6.1 and the ENTER key does not translate to an IDOK. I'm of the impression we will have to programatically trap the key entry (or the value passed on via DataWedge). I have made several attempts to implement either a HOTKEY or something via an Accelerator Table but have been unable to interpret the Microsoft on-line descriptions. If there is a simpler answer that would be good news. If not, a more specific example than the MS samples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• taskbar-free window manager

  I'm looking for a window manager that is not based on the "standard" taskbar (which I find a poor idea and I'm completely tired of). I'm aware of tiling window managers and improvements in last versions of operating systems, but I can't find what I need. I suppose that any window takes the whole screen (or can be tiled), and I imagine switching between windows like that: on a hotkey or mouse hot zone the screen becomes a task switcher where tasks are organized in a somewhat convenient manner. Well, it's a bit like a taskbar with autohide, but I think there could be some more convenient ideas than simply stacking icons and descriptions... It is also supposed to be lightweight enough, for example to run on a netbook. Any suggestions?

  I'm writing a program in C# that runs in the background and allows users to use a htokey to switch keyboard layouts in the active window. (Windows only supports CTRL+SHIFT & ALT+SHIFT) I'm using RegisterHotKey to catch the hotkey, & it's working fine. The problem is that I can't find any API to change the keyboard layout for the focused window. ActivateKeyboardLayout and LoadKeyboardLayout can only change the keyboard layout for the calling thread. Does anyone know how to change the keyboard layout for a different thread (the way the Language Bar does)?

• How can I prevent users from taking screenshots of my application window?

  What are some methods to prevent screenshots from being taken, if any? I've considered setting the "Print Screen" button as a hotkey, which makes the window fuzzy. However, there would be the problem of other 3rd party screenshot tools. How can I prevent their use? Why would I want such a thing? The idea is to create a chat client which you can't share the chatted information with others, not by copy & paste nor by print screen... • Execute a PyQt app from an acpi event in linux

  Hi, I want to use a PyQt application to display an image when some acpi event is triggered under linux. I already setting up the configuration for the event and the python scrip is executed when the event is triggered, but when program reach the creation of the QApplication app = QApplication(sys.argv) it stops without error. I tried setting up the same DISPLAY and PATH environment variables as my current user but it doesn't work. This is my event file: event=sony/hotkey SNC 00000001 00000011 action=/etc/acpi/vaio-tools/brightness/sonybright.sh up 2>&1>/tmp/vaio-tools_brightness.log I tried to find some error in the /tmp/vaio-tools_brightness.log but it doesn't log anything after it reach the QApp creation in code. any hints??

• Visual Studio 2010 Formatting

  I have plenty of experience with Eclipse, and now I'm trying out Visual Studio 2010. I find its formatting somewhat counter-intuitive. Here are some things I'm trying to figure out: Is there a way to select all text and format/indent it properly, like SHIFT+A SHIFT+I in Eclipse? Why is it that when I type a line like if (n == 0) {, as soon as I type the opening brace, the text cursor is moved to the beginning of the line? Is this some productivity speedup I'm failing to see? When I hit ENTER after the aforementioned line, I'd like the closing brace to be put in place automatically for me. How can I do this? I've looked for hotkey documentation, and it's helped a bit, but this still feels clunky to me.

• Cocoa accessibility API, can I click a window in the background without activating it?

  I've been searching forever for a solution to this, so I thought I'd seek out the brainpower of greater minds than mine. I'm developing a Cocoa app that uses the Accessibility API to manipulate another program (it's a hotkey app). The app I'm controlling typically has multiple windows open, with some hidden behind others. What I would like to do, if it's possible, is to send mouse events to windows using the Accessibility API in a way that presses a button in the window without bringing it to the foreground (interact with the window but don't activate it). The reason I'm trying to do this is that sending the mouse event to this other window will force it to the foreground and disrupt the user's interaction with the foremost window. This is possible on Windows - apparently, because apps similar to mine do it there - but I'm getting the feeling that this isn't possible with Cocoa, given the way the window manager works. Am I mistaken?

• How to implement a "hidden" Android app?

  I would like an application which is not readily apparent to casual perusal of the Android. How best to activate it and bring its screen to the fore? Can I detect a special dialing sequence, like *1234#? Or a hotkey combination? When activated, I guess I can pop up an anonymous screen which does not mention the app, but only asks for a password. I already have the code working that handles a global Windows hotkey and then checks to see if the foreground IntPtr is from explorer. If so, I am able to obtain the System.Diagnostics.Process object that maps to explorer. At this point, I would like to obtain the list of selected items from explorer.   Online games can provide a perfect break while you are working and being able to choose from a multitude of games makes it even better. If you are a game addict then you will definitely want to have a look at the Game Button extension for Chrome. Game Button in Action Once the extension has finished installing you are ready to enjoy all that gaming goodness. To get started just click on the “Toolbar Button” and choose a game category. For our example we chose “Shooting Games”. Once you select a game category a new window will open. Towards the lower right corner you will be able to access a scrollable drop-down menu and choose the game that you would like to play. Note: Some of these games come with sounds that can not be turned off so you may want to have the volume lowered all the way or your speakers temporarily turned off if you are at work. For our first game we chose “Snowball Throw”. Notice that there is a nice variety such as “DinoKids – Archery” to games like “Secret Agent”. You can see that our game was nicely sized…not too small and not too large. Go go snowballs! This is definitely a fun one to try…the best approach for this one is to use one hand for clicking the mouse and the other hand for moving it at the same time. If desired you can post your score and see other high scores afterwards. For our second game we decided to try “Target Shooter Firing Range”. This one is definitely a little harder because you have to be extremely precise while moving as quickly as possible. Not too bad for the score but that is ok. You will certainly be able to have fun finding the games that will become your favorites while enjoying the nice variety. Conclusion If you love online games and want a good variety to choose from then the Game Button extension will make a nice addition to your browser.
