• Sharepoint 2010 My-sites Active Directory connection error

  There is a good tutorial of creation of Sharepoint 2010 My-sites here. In my environment I can't get the connection to Active Directory work, as it fails with: "An operation error occurred." There is a text "For Active Directory connections to work, this account must have directory sync rights." but I don't know what that means... My question is: There is nothing in the Event Log. Where is the error-log? :-)

• Dash (-) in directory listing

  I've Googled around for this to no avail, I'm sure its just something simple but I have not been able to figure this out perhaps because searching in Google or SF for a "-" can be problematic. I had a strange directory listing show up the other day in my git repository within Drupal. The other strange this is this entry does not show up for any other user browsing this same directory. Nor does it show up for other users period in their Git directories. The entry cannot be removed via RM. Running Centos 6.2 by the way...

• Websphere SSL handshake with active directory cluster

  We have a WebSphere based application that uses Active Directory(AD) based security configurations. Under WebSphere "Global security" we have configured the active directory server and connection parameters. Active directory server is actually a cluster of four servers, say, serverdc01, serverdc02,serverdc03 and serverdc04. Each of these servers have their own root certificate with CN=serverdc01, CN=serverdc02 ..so on. So to set up SSL communication, I need to retrieve certificate of active directory and save it in WebSphere's trust store. When I retrieve certificate by putting AD server name, port and retrieve certificate I randomly get certificate of one of the serverdc01,serverdc02 ... Then I save that certificate to trust store. Question is : Do I have to save certificate from each of the serverdc01,serverdc02 ...in cluster to WebSphere's trust store? What are general strategies so that each server in the cluster does not require its own root certificate?

• DSL modem problem in 11.10

  Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it got disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual-boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently (earlier it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after Ubuntu in 5 minutes!). Also once disconnected, it does not reconnect even when I have checked the "Connect Automatically" button. I have to restart the system to reconnect it. I the clean installed Windows and modem works perfectly fine again. What is the reason for this and how can I solve this? I really want to use Ubuntu but due to this problem I can't.

• Domain forwarding to a IE "trusted site" opens a blank page

  My employer, a University, regularly hosts conferences and other events. While websites for these sites are hosted on our domain, they frequently request customized .com urls. We then forward these domains to the specific site. Recently, we discovered a problem, where a page will not load if the following conditions are met(using a current example): website is created on our CMS for a conference http://continue.weber.edu/nulc a domain is created http://www.nulc2012.com and forwarded to http://continue.weber.edu/nulc The user enters http://www.nulc2012.com into their address bar using IE7 or IE8 The user has *.weber.edu listed as a "trusted site" in IE security settings (the case for nearly all on-campus computers) When this happens, their browser will correctly transfer to the page http://continue.weber.edu/nulc/index.php, however the page is blank, returning only: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD> <BODY></BODY></HTML> Is there any know solution to this problem? Or am I missing something completely? Note: Tested websites do load correctly in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari

Situation we have a remote Windows Server 2008R2 VPS and i just installed the Active Directory Domain Services Role. A DNS Server was also configured by default at the end of the Active Directory installation. Problem I can't get my Windows 7 machine to register itself to the domain i have just created Question What are the steps i have to take to test my Active Directory configuration, and how do i connect clients to this Domain?   I have sent the following question to stackoverflow website I have installed Windows server 2008 r2 on a virtual machine, Can I install Active directory with domain controller + IIS + SQL server on the same machine? I want to make web application and this web application will authenticate users from Active Directory, the web application should be published on the server IIS and the users should access it remotely from their home using domain name of my machine, Someone tell me that its very wrong to have IIS and Active directory on the same machine I got the following Answer You can't use ActiveDirectory over the internet. At least not without something like a VPN as a middle man. Their home computers will not be joined to the domain, so there is no pass-through authentication. Yes, it's a bad idea to put AD on the web server. Why is too complex to get into in an answer here. Suffice it to say that even if you did do this, it's probably would not work the way you are thinking it should. It's not impossible to do this. For instance, many of the Microsoft "Small Businesss" products put IIS, AD, and SQL Server on the same server. But, you kind of have to know what you're doing to configure it securely. Then I add the following comment Thanks for ur reply.so what you think about the best way to do this as I didn't do anything like that before should I install active directory on a machine and IIS on another machine ? and what about SQL should I add it to the same server of active directory ? I didn't mentioned also that it will be Microsoft dynamics server that will access some information about work and i have to read data from axapta also ? also what is VPN and how can I use it to let users access my web application anywhere ? • Can't get lines around table borders/cells [migrated]

  I have several web pages containing tables, for which I'd like to have line-borders around the tables and the cells. In fact, some of these pages existed for several years already, and rendered acceptly in IE6, IE7. We switched about 6 months ago to a completely different set of style sheets to change our site look and feel. We also switched to "modern" browsers such as IE8 (and because I couldn't stop Vista) to IE9. Now the borders don't render at all. I spent a day fighting with this about a month ago, and failed to fix it. It seemed that I could reduce the page down to just the barest table and IE8 would still not render the border. I think I decided IE8 was just buggy, but I'm not an HTML expert so it is more likely that I'm buggy. (I'm just getting back to this; I'll go see if I can find that reduced page). • Start TLS and 389 Directory

  I'm trying to configure Start TLS on 389 Directory server, but I'm having all sorts of issues. I've been following this doc: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Directory_Server/9.0/html/Administration_Guide/managing-certs.html which specifies that I should create a certificate for both the directory server and admin server. I've imported the CA cert on both servers. I've tried to use the same server certificate for both. It will not allow me to do so. However, the admin and directory servers reside on the same host. If I generate a new certificate it will need to use the same hostname. I'm not sure if that's valid... Has anyone out there set this up before? Any direction would be helpful. I have multmaster replication set up. From an external client, I'm attempting to do an ldapsearch -ZZ -x -h "myhost" -b "dc=example,dc=com" -D "cn=Directory Manager" -W "", and I'm getting a protocol error.

• Why are Win7 IE browers running in IE7 mode?

  On our site we currently have approx. 50% of our IE7 users running Windows 7. However, Win7 was released with IE8 meaning that something is not right. Based on this, we made the assumption that the modern IE browsers enter IE7 compatibility mode on our site. So we placed the "X-UA-Compatible=edge" meta tag on our site in hope to kill off IE7 support. However, after a week, the percentage of IE7 (and IE8) users have gone up for the first time since the start of this year. When looking at the X-UA-Compatible documentation, it is meant to be used for putting your site into an older mode. Is there any other way to make sure that IE doesn't enter compatibility mode? Is there something else we need to look for? And yes, we have so many users on our site that we can't kill off IE7 until it goes down under 2% of unique visitors. EDIT: We use <!doctype html> EDIT2: We haven't been able to reproduce the compatibility mode in our environments either

• Migrate active directory to Google apps for business

  I've got a problem migrating active directory to Gapps. I'm stuck on google apps directory sync (GADS) where it just gives the error "java.lang.NullPointerException" after testing the connection during the LDAP configuration step. I checked the logs and I've pretty much determined that port 389 (standard LDAP port) isn't listening on the exchange server. I've tried telneting to it (from another machine in the same network) with no luck but I can telnet to other ports, that i know are open, successfully. I know they're open because I used portqry and netstat to see them. I'm suspecting that the active directory isn't even installed/running on this machine because there's no active directory services at all running on it. There's no active directory services that say they're NOT running either though. Is it possible AD is installed somewhere else? does it have to be on a machine inside the same network? I found the domain controller and it's host name and when I telnet with port 389, it works however GADS still gives me the same exact error when I substitute that server in. Actually, no matter what ridiculous settings i put into GADS, i still get that same NullPointer error. If i could get some different error than that NullPointer, i'd call that a successful day.

• Some notebooks can connect to internet via certain wireless router, some can't

  I take a class in the building of a business and we sometimes use their internet via Wi-Fi. In the last few weeks, though, some notebooks haven't been able to connect to the internet even though they are connected to the router. It affected first a few of us and then all of us. Last week I tweaked around the network settings on the router (yes, the admin password is the same as the network key) and even moved the internet cable on the router from port 1 to the internet port. None of this really worked so I put things more or less back as I found them and alerted someone that someone who knew more than me had better have a look at the router. So, I don't know if anybody has had a look at it but now 2 of us can again connect to the internet. I had a look at the router settings last week and I really couldn't see what might be creating this issue. What might be the problem?

• Slow internet connection on Mac OS

  At home, we have a router. From router goes the internet connection into the desktop PC (Windows 7) and Macbook Pro. The problem is, that on Mac OS is incredibly slow internet connection - is not possible to use the laptop for surfing on the internet. The same as for WiFi as for cable. On the PC with Windows 7 is working the internet connection properly. Is there any tool for testing, if on my Mac is a virus or just something, what slowing down the internet connection? • Why is Internet Explorer the only browser to be referred to by version when talking about compatibility?

  Whenever I read something or hear someone talking about HTML5, CSS and JavaScript support, they always refer to Internet Explorer with the version number such as Internet Explorer 6, and Internet Explorer 9. But they only refer to Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and others without version numbers. Shouldn't they also specify the version number in which certain web technologies are incompatible for other browsers instead of just Internet Explorer?

  Details: Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7 Professional, running on a HP TouchSmart (touch screen PC). It is going to be a kiosk PC (running a custom GUI for displaying websites). Scenario 1: When running Internet Explorer as a normal program in Windows 7, touch functions work perfectly. I can scroll the website by dragging it with my finger, I can pinch zoom and I can touch-and-hold right click. I now change the default shell in Windows to Internet Explorer (ie. IE starts instead of explorer.exe). Internet Explorer of course starts up when logging in. However, touch functions are reduced to basic clicking (no dragging, no pinch zooming, no touch-and-hold right click). Then I manually start explorer.exe, and the touch functions work again! And here is the weird part: When I kill explorer.exe, the touch functions keeps working - even if I close IE and start a new instance. Scenario 2: The exact same, but instead of changing the default shell to Internet Explorer, I change it to my own program, which uses an embedded Internet Explorer ("WebBrowser"). Same thing happens. What I've tried: Autorun programs: When explorer.exe launches, it launches all the autorun programs. There are no relevant programs being run by explorer, but just in case, I have manually started all the autorun programs, so that it is identical (but without explorer.exe) to a normal login. It still does not work (until I launch explorer.exe). Specifically TabTip.exe, TabTip32.exe and wisptis.exe are all running. All services are also started. To sum it up Running explorer.exe once changes something in the touch capabilities of Internet Explorer. It doesn't matter if explorer.exe is running - as long as it has been run once. Does anyone know what causes this behavior? Or how I can circumvent it neatly? Thanks!

How do I make IE show the same files that Chrome is happy to show? (Chrome showing them means that the files themselves are fine, there is something about the setup that just makes IE be a diva.)

• Router not connecting to the internet

  I had a weird problem this morning with my router - it's an Alice Gate VoIP 2 Plus WI-FI - not connecting to the internet after more or less 1 hour online (I'm always connected with the ethernet cable). The led status lights for Power, WI-FI, ADSL, Internet, Service should be on in order to be connected and navigate online. The problem was that the leds ADSL, Internet were off and I did not know why because it never happened before. I looked at the stats in the settings and the numbers for Bytes/Packages for both Sent/Received were there and increasing but I couldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support, they checked and told me to keep the router on for 48 hours because they were checking it. I've reset it twice before and after I called tech support and it still did not work so after about 2 hours of waiting I tried connecting using WI-FI and the leds 'magically' turned on, first the ADSL and Internet(Internet led always turns on last). At this point I'm curious what could of caused this and I'm doubting that the tech-support guys did something. What could of been the problem with the ethernet cable not connecting in the first place? It always works. What do the tech support guys normally do when they tell me to keep the router on so they can 'check it'? PS: I'm using ubuntu 32 bit

  I have a tar archive in which I have a directory which I need to extract in a given directory. For example: I have a directory TarPrefix/x/y/z in a tar archive I want to extract it in a given target directory for example: extracted/a/ this directory should contain all the files and directories contained in directory TarPrefix/x/y/z. subdir_and_files = [ tarinfo for tarinfo in tar.getmembers() if tarinfo.name.startswith("subfolder/") ] to get the list of all the members in the directory path "subfolder/" and then I extract it using tar.extractall(extracted/a,subdir_and_files) but it extracts all the members with their directory path For example this results in extracted/a/x/y/z. Could you please help me in extracting these files in the given folder.

  Edit: Rephrasing my question: Upon further troubleshooting, I can conclude that: Touch gestures (dragging, pinch to zoom, touch-and-hold right click) in Internet Explorer start to work when: The system has been running for ~2 minutes. This coincides with the delayed start of services. Explorer.exe is being run, then killed. I assume Explorer.exe starts some services? The services with delayed start are as follows: Security Center Software Protection Windows Defender, Search and Update Windows Font Cache Service Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X64 and X86 I see no connection between these services and touch gestures, but just in case, I manually tried starting these services, but without luck. What else happens delayed after system boot, which also happens when explorer is started?
