  • Use Internet Explorer 6 and 7 in Virtual Box.

    Hello. I am trying to install the vhds (virtual hard drive image) of IE6 on XP and IE 7 on XP packs available from Microsoft on Virtual Box. Virtual Box will only mount CD/DVD's and/or ISO's. How do I get it to use the Microsoft files? I need this to test web pages in IE6/IE7s. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Is there a way to do this, or another way that will allow me to load XP/IE6 and XP/IE7 in Virtualbox Edit: Ok I got it to work but it says XP must be updated in 3 days due to hardware changes. Microsoft said this would be activated til January 1st 2010. Is there a way to bypass that?

    If I need to print a colored document on a black and white printer, then which one of these options do you think is better: desaturating the document first and then sending it to printer giving the print command on the colored document only (trusting the printer for the job) I know most of us use the second option. I want to know if there is any possible advantage of using the first option?

  • How can I configure a Linksys EA4500 + usb printer for network printing (without connect cloud)

    The documentation and classic firmware (2.0.37) for Cisco's Linksys EA4500 is a bit sparse on setup details. It says I can connect a USB-printer, but then goes on to try to sell "Connect Cloud" remote management software. I don't want that. I just want to know how to set this up with the existing advanced firmware. Is it possible? AFAIK, to setup a IPP or LDP printer, there is usually some kind of queue configuration on the server (i.e. the ea4500 in this case), but I can't find it in the firmware. I also have been unable to find any existing protocols from win7 or mac osx. (windows network share, IPP/LDP etc.) I'm curious if I need to have the "Storage" accounts active and connect to my router either via the local IP or router name. There's a lot of unknowns here; it would help to know how this particular router actually works.

    I have a bit of an interesting challenge :) I have a machine with a parallel printer output, i want it to be able to print instead to a printer in a different room and i know that parallel isnt great over big distances. i found this: http://www.amazon.com/over-Cat5-Extension-Cable-Adapter/dp/B002WJ9S6Y%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAINHICTCYYZGJWT4Q%26tag%3Dusbprintercables.net-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB002WJ9S6Y which will let me connect over cat5, but its usb to cat 5. my machine can only output on parallel (its not a computer) so what i was thinking of getting is a parallel(f) to usb and usb to parallel (M) for either side i.e. machine - parallel - usb - cat5 - usb - parallel -printer just seems a bit messy :) suggestions? another thing i would like to try is to get rid of the old school parallel printer and instead use a network based multi function. would this be possible? i.e. machine - parallel -usb - cat5 - ethernet print server - network printer this might be rougher because the machine cannot "know" that we are using a network printer. it can ONLY print to LPT1 Thanks!

  • Printing to shared printers across VPN

    I have a program that prints labels at five remote sites. Two sites, aren't working, but the rest are with an identical (as far as I can tell) setup. Using Wireshark, I have determined that the handshaking all goes well, but after the "Open Print File Response" the packet that is sent from the server, doesn't reach the client. But I'm a bit at a loss as to where I go from here. I know the port the packet was sent on (445) isn't being blocked, the RST packet gets sent on the same port and that gets there fine. It's also weird that the three out of five sites are working fine. This has been up and running for years without issue, all that we have changed is our connectivity (from DSL to bonded DSL). But this traffic is over a VPN - so it can't be the ISP interfering either can it? I'm totally stuck, and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    I am using vmware workstation 7. Guest is Windows XP. The host OS is Windows 7. When I queue the printer with multiple documents, the printer doesn't print in order. It seems to print the smaller size in data of documents first. The printer is an HP printer. This is what I have tried so far: I have tested this on the host machine, and it works fine. I have tested this on other host machines(XP Windows7), and it works fine. I have tested other HP printers I have tested it another another guest OS Windows 7 I have tested different drivers Thanks in advance for any help on this one!

  • Printing images with same orientation in Windows 7

    I have generated many graphs (GraphViz .dot, about 35 pcs) from a grammar and then I generated .png files from it. All of them are small graphs with a few (2 to 5) nodes on it. I would like to print them, 9 or 12 per page. The problem is that Windows 7 Print Pictures guesses orientation for every image on the grid individually. How can I force Windows 7 Print Pictures to use the same orientation for all pictures (use the files as-is, just do the fitting) What alternative solution can I use for my task which does not include repetitive manual labor? (OS: Windows 7 64 bit, regularly updated.) Thanks in advance!

  • Windows 2008 Server Firewall blocks from printing in other subnet

    Greetings, i have a windows 2008 server with activated firewall in the 192.168.0.xx subnet. From there i want to print on an printer which is located in the 192.168.10.xx subnet. Now when i try to print with the firewall on, nothing happens... when i turn the firewall off it prints flawlessly. Now i messed around with the windows firewall for about 4 hours straight and i cant seem to find a rule which lets me print. Even when i set the firewall to let everything through im unable to print. Has anyone encountered the same or a similar problem and has a solution for this issue? Thanks in advance xenolf

  • Non-embedded font with different name across operating systems when printing HTML to PDF

    I create a document using HTML markup. I want to use Palatino, which is called Palatino on Windows and Palatino Linotype on Mac, so I specify my CSS accordingly: font-family: Palatino Linotype, Palatino, serif;. I then print to a PDF using PrimoPDF under Windows. It all looks good when viewed in Windows. But I want this PDF to look the same on a Mac, and the resulting file size (94KB) would suggest that the font (size 460KB) is not getting embedded by Primo, perhaps because it is a native font. How will this look? Will the PDF file format resolve this, or will the format of my PDF be wang when viewed under OSX? Please note that I do not want to embed the font. I used a web-safe font to avoid this need, and it just so happens that the one I picked does not have the same name in OSX as in Windows.

    I have a MediaWiki site that I am responsible for. My management has recently asked to see the changes to a specific series of documents within MediaWiki (AKA, they basically want to see the output of the "changes" log). I was wondering two things: Is there a way to "nicely" print out this log so it easily shows the various changes that were made to a document. The information I need to print out is spread across multiple pages. Utilizing whatever information in step 1, is it possible to specify that I print out a subset of pages? (I'm talking about a lot of pages - ~135 of them or so.) Please let me know if you need clarification. Thanks!

    Hello, this is a home setup. A central printer server (Linux) manages the queue, a HP 2430DTN is attached to it via 100Mbit/sec Ethernet. The printer is hooked up to a managable power source. A shell script watches the queue on the server (lpstat -o) and turn on the printer when there is a job. If the queue is empty for 10 minutes it turns the printer off. Now this setup messes up, stops the printer etc. after a couple of weeks and is in general "not so reliable". I now know how to change the stop-printer thing, but: Is there a way to run my turn printer on script and turn printer off script directly from cups without watching the queue? That would be so cool!

Nothing I do seems to get rid of this stuck printing job. What should I do?

    I am trying to print barcodes for a library. I have generated a list of sequential numbers and copied them into Word 2003. I want Library name, barcode font, barcode number printed in an Avery 5160 label sheet. I can get it to work by going to tools, letters and mailing, Envelopes and Labels, labels tab and type in what data I want. I don't see how I can pull this data from the list in the word document rather than just what I type.

Each table should fit on one page, but both Firefox and Safari want to break them over multiple pages and put more than one on a page.     So I have a 70 page pdf document that I'm trying to condense to a small booklet. I tried creating a formula to manually to perform it but it got ugly fast. 35,36,34,37,17,54,16,55,33,38,32,39,15,56,14,57,31,40,30,41,13,58,12,59 29,42,28,43,11,60,10,61,27,44,26,45,9,62,8,63,25,46,24,47,7,64,6,65 23,48,22,49,5,66,4,67,21,50,20,51,3,68,2,69,19,52,18,53,1,70 Once I print the booklet I should be able to cut the sheets in half and set the bottom half behind the top and staple it for a simple book. Which means Page 1 should have pages 35,36,17,54,34,37,16,55 Page 2 should have pages 33,38,15,56,32,39,14,57 And several pages later Page 9 should have pages 19,52,1,70,18,53 But manually doing this is a headache and it seems like the booklet function should contain functionality that can perform this. I'm using a commercial Konica Minolta C452

    I have network IPP working on Ubuntu and Windows XP. On my Windows 7 instance, it refuses to acknowledge the remote server connection. Can anyone suggest how to configure this correctly? My install steps are: Add Printer Add a Local Printer Create a New Port and "Standard TCP/IP Port" Enter hostname http://host:631/printers/Printer_Name After that it says the printer is not detected, asks me to pick a driver, and finish up. Trying to use the device does not produce any output? If anyone has got this work, I would really appreciate a fix.

Just letting you know I'm new here, and I'm very new to Windows 7. I installed it two days ago. I just installed Windows 7 on my laptop and I have a few problems. I play World of Warcraft, as well as a variety of games. And when I first attempt to log into the game, I get a windows error message, but it doesn't stop there. I thought World of Warcraft got corrupted during the upgrade. It seems that I am unable to access the internet from other online games as well. Most say in along the lines of "Cannot connect to patch server, try again later." I cannot use a downloader Also, I have internet explorer. The x32 version of the browser cannot connect to the internet, and when I try to enter "google.com", it says the same thing. I'm only accessing this site through Internet Explorer x64, which I would have been fine with is it's compatible with Adobe Flash. The only thing that seems to connect to the internet are Internet Explorer x64 and Windows Live Messenger. Here are the steps I have taken, but none worked. 1.) Disable Windows Firewall 2.) Have Windows Firewall Enabled, but allow the specific programs to access internet. And allowed all incoming access. 3.) Disabled UAC, Ran the programs as an admin, and set compatibility to Vista. 4.) Uninstalled an anti-virus program. (McAffee Security Suite 2010) 5.) Reinstalled the programs 6.) Reinstalled Windows 7 7.) Retaken the steps on the Administrator account. Please assist me in this problem. I need to get back into the game. Thanks so much in advance.

  • getting Internet connection sharing working in a slightly more complicated configuration

    I have the following configuration: Computer A - Mac OSX 10.8.4, wireless & wired adapters Computer B - Windows 7 (64 bit), wireless & wired adapters, has internet connection via the wired adapter (ethernet) d-link wired/wireless router. Problem to solve: Connect from computer A to the internet through the wired connection of computer B. I tried the following: I set up a local network between A and B using the d-link router. The configuration is this: D-link router - 192.168.0.1 A - wired connection to the d-link router, static 192.168.0.101 (I could have used the wireless but I preferred the wired connection) B - wireless connection to the d-link router DHCP 192.168.0.102 (but I made sure it always gets the same address) B - wired connection to the internet using some address that begins with 10.x.y.z. In this configuration A can see B. I enabled ICS on the wired adapter of B. I set up the Gateway of A to point to B and DNS servers to point to the DNS servers specified for the 10.x.y.z address. It doesn't work, A goes only as far as B. It can ping the 10.x.y.z address of B though. I then found this article: http://terrybritton.com/windows-internet-connection-sharing-ics-not-working-with-linux-bridging-is-the-solution-916/. Terry is suggesting that a bridge should be defined on B between the two connections. I tried that but basically computer B is screwed as soon as I create the bridge. It can't connect to the internet anymore. It is as if the network bridge seems to think the traffic to the internet should go from the wired connection to the wireless and not the other way around. The other thing that puzzles me is the router itself. In general the router needs an internet address. In a normal configuration it is the router that gets the ip address and the internet traffic goes through the router. In my case I am not interested in that. So, any suggestions to get this working? I wouldn't shy away from using a commercial software but I would think windows 7 should allow me to do it. Thanks

I have no problem connecting k610 to my laptop, and even shared my GPRS internet connection with my PC. but can't do contrary.
