• Microsoft launches IE9 preview – No support for XP

  Microsoft launched the developer preview version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) at MIX 10 web conference yesterday.This release is aimed getting the feedback from website designers , developers and other community to make IE9 development better from its previous versions. Microsoft will update the developer preview every eight weeks and the next update is expected on mid of march.So what is new and interesting  about IE9 Chakra Chakra (The new scripting engine of IE9) renders the Java script much faster compared to IE8 and other browsers thus improving the performance significantly.According to Microsoft Chakra renders the java script in background with a separate thread parallel to the main engine which is complete new way of rendering from the current browser technologies Standards Microsoft is desperate to make ( surprisingly!!!) IE9 compliance to  web standards by supporting the open standards such as Accelerated support for HTML5 video support for new web technologies such as CSS3 and SVG2. ACID3 Test IE9 scores (55/100) in its latest ACID3 test which is much better compared to the IE8 score (22/100) but not even  nearer to their rivals Chrome, Opera, and Safari which scores 100/100 in ACID3 testing I am little disappointed over not able to download the  developer preview on my XP machine. • 12.04 on VirtualBox -No internet access on Guest OS

  I have Windows 7 as my Host OS which has wired Ethernet working. My guest OS on VirtualBox is Ubuntu 12.04. The problem is that I cannot browse. I have: Enabled sharing on Windows; Have used NAT, Bridged Adapter etc ( all possible combinations); With NAT, used PCnet-FAST II (Am79c973) combination. Ubuntu says "connected to wired ethernet1" but I cannot access websites. VirtualBox Host-Only Network in the Network and Sharing center shows that I don't have IPV4 and IPV6 connectivity. Meaning I don't have DHCP configured. Strangely I have DNS address correct in the Ubuntu properties.

  I develop website using chrome and mac os as development environment. Since my audience is pretty specific I don't feel the necessity for too much backward compatibility with IE8 and less. However to my great dismay, even IE9 looks totally broken... I would like to know if there's on the web a tool that could tell me what probably went wrong with IE, that is a webapp that parse the rendered css and check which rules are probably totally broken in IE9.

• Ubuntu 10.04, I cannot get my computer to connect to the internet

  So at first I was unable to get my Belkin Surf & Share usb to install on my computer, so then I plugged my computer directly into my router and my computer won't acknowledge any connection. I know very little about how to use ubuntu, please help me. What I do know is: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx In my 'edit connections', I go into 'wired' tab, select "wired connection 1" then 'edit' it brings up 4 tab options: Wired (I input the MAC address that's printed on the bottom of my router, MTU is set to automatic) 802.1x Security (currently: not checked) IPv4 Settings (currently: Automatic (DHCP) addresses only) IPv6 Settings (currently: Automatic)

• Internet Explorer 10 aborting some stylesheets

  Strange problem exhibited only with IE10 on Windows 8. No other IE version, no other OS version. Some stylesheets are aborted, apparently in transport, intermittently. This seems to happen when there are three <link> tags in sequence. The tags are correctly specified and are being served from Amazon S3 over HTTPS. The first two items abort when (or prior to) loading. Altering the order of the items appears to make the first two items abort in all cases. This problem is intermittent, and different people can reproduce with differing success. I have seen a lot of conjecture about this on the web but no solution.

• Using shortkeys to search the internet for a term selected in a text editor/viewer

  It seems possible (as I learned from a comment to this question made by user55822) to use a command in order to search a term on the web by using "keybinding" the way Aretha is used. What the aforementioned user says is that "you could search mouse selection anywhere by using an app like Artha, or by keybinding sh -c 'firefox "http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/$(xclip -o)"' (example given translate english into french)" A lot of things are obscure for me here. I could use Artha or keybinding (as alternative), or both? How to do that in each case? and "The command I gave you will open google translate in Firefox with your mouse selection (text highlighted) as a query. Use sh -c 'firefox "https://www.google.com/search?q=$(xclip -o)"' if you want regular Google over Google translate. And obviously, that would work everywhere" I do not know what to do with that formula. What should I do exactly? How to use it? In what application?

• exchange live feed with pre-recorded video for wireless internet camera to router

  I wasn't sure if this should be asked in Web Applications, or Network Engineering, or what... Long story short, I have a video camera with mic that is wirelessly connected to a router (NETGEAR R6200), which can then be viewed through an online service. I would like to be able to somehow exchange the live feed with a pre-recorded video, or image, preferably with pre-recorded sound (the sound of silence would be easiest). Can I place this inbetween the camera and the router, do I need to redirect the camera feed to my laptop first, and then push out the fake video/audio onto the router, without the service knowing the difference? Thanks much and I hope this is well understood!

• Splitting an internet connection between multiple separate subnetworks

  Problem I have an internet connection that I want to split between four separate networks. My requirements are: I need to be able to monitor the amount of bandwidth and data being used by each network, and notify or control as necessary. The four networks should only be able to connect to the internet, not each other. My parents need to be able to operate it, so it needs a simple, preferably Windows-based GUI. Progress so far Server I have a mini-ITX server with six Gigabit ethernet ports - one for the ethernet internet connection, one for each of the four networks, and one for remote access to the server for administration. Bandwidth control I spent a long time researching solutions here. The majority of the control systems/software I found could control bandwidth usage via QOS, but could not monitor or control the amount of data being used. Eventually I found the SoftPerfect Bandwidth Manager, which has everything I need in terms of monitoring and control - per-interface quota management, usage statistics, a web interface for checking usage, and email notifications when quotas are exceeded. It is also Windows-based and has a simple GUI. Internet sharing This is where I am having issues. I am currently using Windows XP Pro SP2 for the server (yes, I know this is far from ideal, but it's the only spare Windows OS I currently have). I can't use the built-in Internet Connection Sharing for several reasons: The upstream internet router has an IP of 192.168.0.1 which ICS clashes with, and I cannot change the router settings. ICS can only share an internet connection with a single interface, but I have four. I have tried bridging the four network cards, but then the Bandwidth Manager cannot see the four individual interfaces - it only sees the bridge. I have tried setting up Dual DHCP DNS server (and am having issues getting DHCP offers to be received by clients), but that would still require gateway software of some sort, which I have been unable to find. My current attempt is to use OpenVPN, with a server for the internet NIC and a separate client for each of the four networks. My thought is that I could bridge the OpenVPN TAP devices to each NIC, meaning that the Bandwidth Manager would control traffic from the bridge instead of the interface. I have not made much progress here though - I've never used OpenVPN before. Questions Is there a Windows software package that does everything I need? (Unlikely, I know) Is there a Windows software package that will share internet between multiple NICs without bridging? Are either of my about attempts feasible? Would it help to have a newer/server version of Windows? Is there a non-Windows alternative that is easy to use?

I have overridden all background-image declarations with: * {background-image:none !important;} But to no avail. • Internet Dropping?!

  I have a virtual DC running DNS and Routing and Remote Access, that routes ALL workstations Internet traffic out to the Internet, this works fine but noticed that the Internet drops occasionally. I've checked with our service provider (Managed Communications) and they are adamant that it's not their fault. The Internet drops seem to affect everyone. We also have a server configured to use the same Internet service on a different network over a site-to-site VPN connection which also suffers from packet drops. I've spoken to Cisco and have done many tests with Cisco and they believe the problem is down to the ISP. I'm wondering if it's a DNS issue, as the Internet service uses OpenDNS. Any ideas?

• The Work Order Printing Challenge

  One of the biggest concerns we've heard from maintenance practitioners is the ability to print and batch print work order details along with its accompanying attachments. Indeed, maintenance workers traditionally rely on work order packets to complete their job. A standard work order packet can include a variety of information like equipment documentation, operating instructions, checklists, end-of-task feedback forms and the likes. Now, the problem is that most Asset Lifecycle Management applications do not provide a simple and efficient solution for process printing with document attachments. Work order forms can be easily printed but attachments are usually left out of the printing process. This sounds like a minor problem, but when you are processing high volume of work orders on a regular basis, this inconvenience can result in important inefficiencies. In order to print work order and its related attachments, maintenance personnel need to print the work order details and then go back to the work order and open each individual attachment using the proper authoring application to view and print each document. The printed output is collated into a work order packet. The AutoVue Document Print Service products that were just released in April 2010 aim at helping organizations address the work order printing challenge. Customers and partners can leverage the AutoVue Document Print Services to build a complete printing solution that complements their existing print server solution with AutoVue's document- and platform-agnostic document print services.   I want to prevent certain applications from accessing the internet. When I was using windows XP I had an application (i think it was Zone alarm) which always notified me when an application tried to access the internet. I wonder if there is an application in Ubuntu which would do the same task. If it is possible, please suggest a gui application. the problem is, my internet provider allows me to connect to a single host at a time, that means no two applications can use internet at the same time. When i checked system monitor it showing me that internet is working fine still my browser cant browse.So i want to kill the other application using the internet to browse.

• Disable header/footer printing from Chrome

  The Chrome browser doesn't have any settings for changing or disabling header and footer data that gets printed when you go File Print. Apparently this is being developed but until it is does anyone know how to disable this in Windows XP. Chrome on the Mac and Ubuntu doesn't do it so I assume it is down to a system setting that by default doesn't print header/footer information unless software over-rides this?

• Windows 7 - Wireless Signal Good - Internet Often Says Limited or No Activity

  Hi - I have a New Dell Studio XPS latop that I hooked up in early January of 2010. The Dell Studio XPS laptop is connected to my wireless router (Belkin Wireless N). The router was purchased in Februaru of 2010 because I thought my router was bad (A D-Link router). Comcast is my ISP. Everyday, at random times, the internet will have a good signal (according to the little Win 7 icon on the taskbar) but I will receive a message saying limited or no internet access and I cannot access the internet. I have the internet setup to automatically get an IP and I did the IPCONFIG release / renew but with no success. I even had a WiFi enabled Blackberry right next to my computer and whenever the computer loses an WiFi connection, so does the Blackberry. The router isnt't bad, because the old router did the same thing - giving me limited or no internet access while working sometimes. I also tried using two other laptops in same physical position as my Dell Studio XPS laptop and they have the same problem. I am going crazy trying to figure this out as I have called the Router Company (Belkin), my ISP (Comcast), and my computer maker (Dell). Can anyone offer some suggestions and I can try them as we work through this and maybe one of the suggestion will be right one. Thanks in advance for even reading my problem. I searched for a problem similar to mine on the internet, but I have not been able to keep a steady internet connection. (Side note - I used to have an IBM thinkpad laptop and D - Link router and for years that wireless connection worked FLAWLESSLY, with the same physical set up - the laptop in my bedroom, and the router in the basement.)

  I have a spreadsheet structured as follows: Summary section at the top Detail section on the bottom Summary section summarizes the detail section which is filtered using auto filters There are ten products that all need to be printed individually, but I want the page footer to show the overall page position of all the print jobs and the total number of pages. That is probably not clear. So for example, if I print the two page Product A view it will print page 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. If I print the one page Product B it will show page 1 of 1. What I want is to print both and have Product A show Page 1 of 3, Page 2 of 3, and Product B be Page 3 of 3. Is there any way to accomplish this?

• Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

  In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards. Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things: Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels. How do I import my address data into that program? If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

• Lose internet connection, yet online games continue

  For the past week or so, my internet connection has been anything but stable. Restarting my modem/router always fixes the problems, but since it has occurred so often, I'm noticing confusing patterns which I was hoping someone could help answer. My internet connection kicks out about 4-5 times a day. The sure-fire way to fix it is to restart my all-in-one modem/router. Sometimes I can diagnose the problem on my laptop which resets my wireless network adapter and fixes the problem, but not always. If that doesn't fix the problem, it usually reports that the connection between the modem and internet is the problem which requires a restart of the router. The odd thing which baffles me is that my connection is supposedly lost such that no browsers can connect to sites, yet things like online games still continue to play without issue. How is this possible? I thought maybe the game was running locally on my PC but that couldn't be the answer because I was still getting messages from other players. So my real question is: How can my internet browsers (firefox, chrome, even IE) lose connection to the internet, but other applications like online games not? Am I actually losing connection or am I mistaken? Edit: I'd also like to add that netflix on my PS3 which is directly connected to the same access point will also lose connection. So internet browsers and netflix lose their internet connection while online games continue without an issue.
