  • Why is iTunes starting and stopping play randomly, and how do I stop it?

    Since yesterday morning my copy of iTunes has been starting and stopping randomly. If iTunes is not running, then it opens and sometimes begins playing, other times sits idle. Eventually, after a random interval it will begin playing a song, and then stop, and so on... Needless to say, it's driving me mad. (Mac OSX, 10.6.3, on a new-ish (< 1 year old) 24" iMac) I've made five changes to my system that may or may not be connected to this: My office phone was replaced with a Linksys IP Phone, which necessitated a change to my networking; where previously my Mac was connected directly to the office network port, now it is connected through the phone. My network connection now uses auto link detection in lieu of forcing 100Mbit I unpaired my bluetooth headset. I removed the USB audio device associated with another headset. I upgraded to Safari 5. I don't use it as a primary browser, but it's often open to run web apps that I'm developing. All of these things happened in pretty close proximity to each other, so one or more of them may be the culprit. One other thing that may or may not be related; for some reason my built-in microphone is no longer picking up audio. It seems like this might be connected to the iTunes issue, because it happened around the same time. In terms of things that I've tried in order to solve this, I'm at a bit of a loss. I followed the instructions at http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2004/tn2124.html#SECLAUNCHDLOGGING to enable detailed launchd logging to see if I could track down which process was asking iTunes to open (when it's not already open) but I wasn't able to make heads or tails of the output. I'm not even sure if I'm looking in the right place, to be honest; it actually acts like something is activating the application with AppleScript, but I have no processes running that are doing that, as far as I know. I'm running a few apps that have iTunes integration: Adium, iChat with Chax, Quicksilver. None of these have been changed lately, so I consider them low risks of causing this, but it's not impossible. Moreover, I'm not using any of those features intentionally.   • How can I make the iTunes podcast count ignore selected podcasts?

    Hi all, Until recently I have only listened to news type podcasts with people talking, like TWiT and Security Now. I also like music, so decided to subscribe to some other music related podcasts, however I don't want these to appear in my podcasts count in iTunes on the left hand side. I downloaded a load of old ones from the music related podcasts, and now I can't see at a glance how many news podcasts I have to listen to. I know it sounds really picky, but if it can be done, I would be a little bit happier. Of course I did some googling, but turned up a blank. Would guess it needs some form of plugin. Using the latest version of iTunes at the time of posting. Thanks in advance.

    I'm interested in reading PDF-format ebooks on my Apple iPad. I have half a gig of PDFs I want to transfer to it, from my PC. I'm familiar already with loading EPUB-format titles through iBooks – unfortunately, iBooks doesn't read PDFs so I am looking at using a third-party application. I know many such third-party media viewer applications for the iPad support download from web or email, but that's a hassle. I've heard iTunes 9.1 added support for USB File Transfer, specifically for iPad devices. How does USB File Transfer work in iTunes, for transferring files from my PC to my iPad?   • What's the simplest way to get .flac music files into iTunes?

    I'm looking for a simple way to import .flac files into iTunes, so I can play them on my mac, and when I'm out, my iPhone, and I'm willing to be I'm not the first person to want to do this. What are the best tools for doing this? The quality of the music is useful, but truth be told, the speakers I'd play them on are so crappy that a lot of the sound quality in the .flac format would be lost anyway, so I'm not averse to converting to mp3 files. If it helps give any context, I'm using a Macbook with OS 10.5 Leopard, and iTunes 9, connected to a 16gb iPhone with standard apple headphones, which is sometimes plugged into Bose SoundDock for music, and the music files are piano performances.   • iTunes RSS Feed returning max. 100 items instead of 300

    I tried the iTunes RSS generator at http://itunes.apple.com/rss/generator/ to download the newest 300 games, which gave me the RSS Feed URL http://itunes.apple.com/us/rss/newapplications/limit=300/genre=6014/xml. However, only 100 are returned, and alphabetically sorted, so the list stops at the letter E ... Did Apple restrict the amount of items one could get without updating their RSS Feed Generator? Or am I missing something?

  • Changing Win 8.1 Pro Store App Installation Folder

    I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with Windows 8.1. The c:\ is very limited capacity at only 24GB. With the OS only on the c:\ I just have 8.6GB of free space. So I have added a 64gb SSD to the machine and want to install all my apps on it and not the C Drive. I know the apps get installed in c:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder so I have ROBOCOPY'd all the files to d:\Program Files\WindowsApps and created a symbolic link using mklink. It seems that new apps are install correctly now on d:\ however the existing apps fail to open. What is the Microsoft's solution to making this happen seamlessly?

We’re very excited to announce the last significant milestone in the rollout of the Windows Store before the general availability of Windows 8 on October 26. The Store is now open for app submissions from all developers – individuals and companies – in our supported markets, and we’ve added 82 more app submission markets!   • Listing Desktop Apps in the Windows 8 Store

    So it looks like Microsoft will be allowing publishers to list their desktop apps in the Windows 8 Store.  As per the developer agreement: b. Desktop App Submission. You may submit an app description for one or more desktop apps to the Windows Store. Notwithstanding anything else in this agreement, you understand that Microsoft will not offer any desktop apps through the Store and only Windows Store apps are made available through the Windows Store. Microsoft may, but is not required to, list the desktop app in the Windows Store together with a link you provide, to a website where users can acquire the app. You are solely responsible and agree to maintain that website and provide an updated link to Microsoft if the url changes. Desktop apps are any apps built using APIs other than the APIs for Windows Store apps that run on Windows 8. As the agreement states, Microsoft will not distribute desktop apps through the store, but they will provide a link to a website where users can download your desktop app.  If nothing else, it is a great way to advertise your app.  Hopefully this doesn’t cause any confusion with consumers.  Will end users understand why some apps install automatically while others just send you to a website?

    Hi, Is there a key value store that will give me the following: Allow me to simply add and remove nodes and will redstribute the data automatically Allow me to remove nodes and still have 2 extra data nodes to provide redundancy Allow me to store text or images up to 1GB in size Can store small size data up to 100TB of data Fast (so will allow queries to be performed on top of it) Make all this transparent to the client Works on Ubuntu/FreeBSD or Mac Free or open source I basically want something I can use a "single", and not have to worry about having memcached, a db, and several storage components so yes, I do want a database "silver bullet" you could say. Thanks Zubair Answers so far: MogileFS on top of BackBlaze - As far as I can see this is just a filesystem, and after some research it only seems to be appropriate for large image files Tokyo Tyrant - Needs lightcloud. This doesn't auto scale as you add new nodes. I did look into this and it seems it is very fast for queries which fit onto a single node though Riak - This is one I am looking into myself, but I don't have any results yet Amazon S3 - Is anyone using this as their sole persistance layer in production? From what I have seen it seems to be used for storage of images as complex queries are too expensive @shaman suggested Cassandra - definitely one I am looking into So far it seems that there is no database or key value store that fulfills the criteria I mentioned, not even after offering a bounty of 100 points did the question get answered!

  • iPhone Store Kit "Cannot connect to iTunes Store"

    Hi, I am working on adding In-App purchases to my app. I am able to receive the productsRequest:didReceiveResponse method, and receive the array of products. My problem arises when I add a SKPayment to the SKPaymentQueue. After I add the product to the queue, in the paymentQueue:updatedTransactions method the transactions always have the state SKPaymentTransactionStateFailed. I NSLog the "transaction.error" and this is what it returns: Error Domain=SKErrorDomain Code=0 UserInfo=0x165000 "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" I have logged out of the Store in the Settings app, but after trying to purchase a product in my app it never asks me to log in with my test account. It just fails with the above error. Thanks in advance.

  • Store in DB or not to store ?

    There are few string lists in my web application that i don't know where to store in DB or just class. ie. I have 7 major browsers with which users enter the site. I want to save these stats thus i need to create browser column in UserLogin database. I don't want to waste space and resources so i can save full browser name in each login row. So i either need to save browserID field and hook it up with Browsers table which will store names following db normalization rules or to have sort of Dataholder abstract class which has a list of browsers from which i can retrieve browser name by it's ID... The question what should i do ? These few data lists i have contain no more than 200 items each so i think it makes sense to have them as abstract class but again i don't know whether MS-SQL will handle multiple joins so well. Think of idea when i have user with country,ip,language,browser and few more stats .. thanks

  • Google App Engine - Blob Store Service with a Dispatcher Servlet

    I have a central dispatcher servlet that has a servlet mapping of : <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>dispatcher</servlet-name> <url-pattern>/</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> When i try to use the blob store service's createUploadUrl("/uploadComplete") it maps to a URL for e.g *'/_ah/upload/agp0d2VldG15cGljchsLEhVfX0Jsb2JVcGxvYWRTZXNzaW9uX18YEgw'*. Before the Blob store service can handle the upload and redirect to /uploadComplete; my dispatcher servlet gets called and i am therefore not being able to upload anything. Is there a servlet/ filter that i can map to /_ah/upload/* in my web.xml ? How do i avoid the dispatcher servlet from getting called before the Blob store service can do its thing?

As an alternate solution, you can also configure OVD as Identity Store with OAM and then configure LDAP adapter for OVD with OUD details.Configuring Identity store for OAM is documented here.
