  • Using javascript to limit survey choices to three unique values

    - by leanne
I'm required to use a limited survey application, and have to adapt the provided code to meet more advanced functionality. I need to create a weighted ranking question, so users can select their top three choices and the data will go into the survey application and be accessible in the survey reports. The application only supports 2 types of questions (text fill & multiple choice) but I can alter the code, as long as it still sends the form data back to the survey application. The code is set up so it will show a drop-down menu of 0-3 for each option. Now I want to limit the user's choices so they can only select one "1" "2" or "3", three choices total. Ideally, if the user already had "2" selected for one option and they tried to select it for another option, it would set the first "2" as "0" or blank. Is this possible to do with javascript? If so, does anyone know of a site that might show code like this, or provide similar enough examples that I could adapt it? Current code here: <html> <head><title>Survey</title></head> <!-- Changes - remove br to put dropdown next to text for each item. Switch text & dropdown order for each item. - add comments to separate each question - removed blue title font - add instructions Goals - limit choices to one 1 one 2 and one 3, three choices total. --> <link href="---" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <body bgcolor="#3c76a3"> <!-- TRANSITIONAL DIALOG BOX --> <table border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="background-attachment: scroll; background-color: #3c76a3; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left top;" bgcolor="#3c76a3" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" width="100%" height="100%"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="survey"> <tr> <td><p>&nbsp;</p> <!-- HEADER END --> <!-- FORM START TAG --><form name="survey" action="---" method="POST"> <FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>survey</b><hr> <!-- 1 --> <input type=hidden name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean_multiple_answers" value="one"> <font size=2><select name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean" SIZE=1> <option value=""> <option value="0">0 <option value="1">1 <option value="2">2 <option value="3">3 </select></font> <input type="hidden" name="Buy R.J. a DeLorean_help" value=""> <b><font size=2>Buy R.J. a DeLorean</font></b> <hr size=1> <!-- 2 --> <input type=hidden name="Fill Lisa's office with marshmallows._multiple_answers" value="one"> <font size=2><select name="Fill Lisa's office with marshmallows." • Limit asp:Repeater control - Is it possible without changing sql statement?

    - by ktsixit
Hi all, I'm trying to apply some kind of limit on an asp:Repeater control, so that I can get only the first 5 results from repeating. The only suggested solution I have found is about limiting the sql statement results. In my case, this is not possible. I need to find some other kind of solution. Are there any other asp controls that I could use which are similar to Repeater? This is the current code I'm using: <asp:Repeater ID="rptrMan" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="rptrMan_ItemDataBound" EnableViewState="false"> <HeaderTemplate> <ul> </HeaderTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <li> <div class="picture1"> <asp:HyperLink ID="imageLink" runat="server" /> </div> <div class="title"> <asp:HyperLink ID="manTitle" runat="server" /> </div> </li> </ItemTemplate> <FooterTemplate> </ul> </FooterTemplate> </asp:Repeater>

  • PHP CLI not respecting memory limit in php.ini

    - by user13743
I am using drush, which is a command-line php app to manage a drupal website. I am running a command to import a lot of data, which is causing me to hit php's memory limit. PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted ... Which is 512MB if I'm doing the math correctly (536870912 / 1024 / 1024 = 512). I've changed the directive in the php.ini that drush uses: $> drush status ... PHP configuration : /etc/php5/cli/php.ini $> grep memory /etc/php5/cli/php.ini ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128MB) ; http://php.net/memory-limit memory_limit = 1024M But I'm still hitting the 512 MB limit! I am running in a virtual machine, whose memory settings I changed from 512 to 1025 MB of RAM to allow drush to run. $> free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 1010 578 431 0 14 392 -/+ buffers/cache: 172 837 Swap: 382 0 382 So it says it has some 431 MB free, now that I've bumped the vm up to 1024. I guess half the memory is being used to run the GUI, but I don't understand how the GUI was running okay when the vm had 512 MB of ram. Why is the PHP cli still hitting a 512 MB memory limit? If it was hitting a system memory limit, shouldn't it die around 431MB, which is what the free command says is available?

  • The meaning of thermal throttle counters and package power limit notifications in Linux

    - by Trustin Lee
Whenever I do some performance testing on my Linux-installed MacBook Pro, I often see the following messages in dmesg: Aug 8 09:29:31 infinity kernel: [79791.789404] CPU1: Package power limit notification (total events = 40365) Aug 8 09:29:31 infinity kernel: [79791.789408] CPU3: Package power limit notification (total events = 40367) Aug 8 09:29:31 infinity kernel: [79791.789411] CPU2: Package power limit notification (total events = 40453) Aug 8 09:29:31 infinity kernel: [79791.789414] CPU0: Package power limit notification (total events = 40453) I also see the throttle counters in the sysfs increases over time: trustin@infinity:/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/thermal_throttle $ ls core_power_limit_count package_power_limit_count core_throttle_count package_throttle_count $ cat core_power_limit_count 0 $ cat core_throttle_count 41912 $ cat package_power_limit_count 67945 $ cat package_throttle_count 67565 What do these counters mean? Do they affect the performance of CPU or system? Do they result in increased deviation of performance numbers? (i.e. Do they prevent me from getting reliable performance numbers?) If so, how do I avoid these messages and increasing counters? Would running the performance tests on a well-cooled desktop system help?

  • Apache error "child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25)"

    - by Stephen Melrose
Morning all, Apache on our internal development server stopped working last night. It's running, but all we get is a blank screen, no server errors. Examing the error log shows the following, [Fri Apr 23 09:13:57 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:06 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) After some Googling, we found that this is due to Apache trying to handle a file greater than it's maximum allowed limit, which by default is 2GB and is usually an error log. I did a search using find . -size +1000000k -ls (find all files greater than 1GB) in our log and web folders, but nothing showed up. I've also restarted Apache and rebooted the server itself serveral times. I've completely wiped the log folder and started a fresh. Nothing is working. Any ideas as to what else might be causing this? Thank you

  • setting nproc in /etc/security/limit.conf prevents ssh login

    - by omry
I am trying to use /etc/security/limit.conf on Linux (Debian) to limit the number of processes per user. for starters, I tried to limit my own user processes by adding this to /etc/security/limit.conf: omry hard nproc 100 this locked my user out of ssh. I could open new processes (verified with su omry), but could not log into ssh with that user : sshd reported this in it's log: fatal: setreuid 1000: Resource temporarily unavailable also, I am certain my user is not running anything near 100 processes (actually 6). what can be the reason for this?

  • How can I change the amount and size of Linux ramdisks (/dev/ram0 - /dev/ram15)?

    - by Kevin S.
Using Linux, when I boot I automatically have 16 16MB ramdisks, however, I would like to create one really large ramdisk to test some software. I found that I can adjust the size of the ramdisks already on the system with the kernel boot parameter ramdisk_size however, this makes all 16 ramdisks (/dev/ram0 - /dev/ram15) the size that is specified. So if I want to create a 1GB ramdisk, I would need 16GB of memory. Basically, I want to create one 10GB ramdisk which would be /dev/ram0. How would I go about doing that? I assume there is a kernel boot parameter, but I just haven't found it.

  • What's the maximum size Windows 7 allows for ReadyBoost?

    - by ymasood
I read somewhere the Windows 7 had removed the limit on ReadyBoost from 4GB and now allows an unlimited number of GBs. I would like to reconfirm this as a fact. At present, my Windows 7 RC 7100 allows me a maximum of 4GB on one of my 8GB flash drives (though I've tried to connect two at a time and use 4GB on one and 2GB on another). Thanks!

  • AS3: limit objects to stage width?

I want to limit the creation of objects acording to the stage width. My method is the following: for (var i:int = 0; i<7; i++){ If I put something like this, it won't work for (var i:int = 0; i<(stage.width); i++){ What I'm doing wrong? • Suggested HTTP REST status code for 'request limit reached'

    - by Andras Zoltan
I'm putting together a spec for a REST service, part of which will incorporate the ability to throttle users service-wide and on groups of, or on individual, resources. Equally, time-outs for these would be configurable per resource/group/service. I'm just looking through the HTTP 1.1 spec and trying to decide how I will communicate to a client that a request will not be fulfilled because they've reached their limit. Initially I figured that client code 403 - Forbidden was the one, but this, from the spec: Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated bothered me. It actually appears that 503 - Service Unavailable is a better one to use - since it allows for the communication of a retry time through the use of the Retry-After header. It's possible that in the future I might look to support 'purchasing' more requests via eCommerce (in which case it would be nice if client code 402 - Payment Required had been finalized!) - but I figure that this could equally be squeezed into a 503 response too. Which do you think I should use? Or is there another I've not considered?

  • 64kb limit on the size of MSMQ Multicast Messages

    - by John Breakwell
When Windows 2003 came out, Microsoft introduced the ability to broadcast messages to any machines that were listening back. All you had to do was send out a message on a particular port and IP address and any client that had set up a Multicast queue with matching port and IP address would get a copy. Since its introduction, there have been a couple of security vulnerabilities that needed to be removed: Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-052 Vulnerability in Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) Could Allow Remote Code Execution (919007) Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-036 Vulnerabilities in Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) could allow denial of service (950762) The second of these, MS08-036, was resolved through an undocumented change in functionality. Basically, a limit of 64kb was put on the maximum size of a message that could be broadcast using the Multicast method. Obviously this has caused a few problems for any existing MSMQ Multicast applications that expected to be able to send larger messages. A hotfix has been developed to resolve this problem. 961605 FIX: Multicast messages larger than 64 kilobytes (KB) are not delivered as expected by using Message Queuing 3.0 after security update MS08-036 is installed A registry change is required: Open the registry with Regedit Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RMCAST\Parameters\ Create a DWord called MaxpacketSize Set the value to the desired number of bytes. You can set it to a value between zero and 4MB. If you specify anything above 4MB, it will default to 64K. A reboot is needed after adding this value.

  • Salesforce/PHP - outbound messages (SOAP) - memory limit issue? DOMDocument::loadXML() issue?

    - by Phill Pafford
I'm using Salesforce to send outbound messages (via SOAP) to another server. The server can process about 8 messages at a time, but will not send back the ACK file if the SOAP request contains more than 8 messages. SF can send up to 100 outbound messages in 1 SOAP request and I think this is causing a memory issue with PHP. If I process the outbound messages 1 by 1 they all go through fine, I can even do 8 at a time with no issues. But larger sets are not working. ERROR in SF: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file Looking in the HTTP error logs I see that the incoming SOAP message looks to be getting cut of which throws a PHP warning stating: DOMDocument::loadXML() ... Premature end of data in tag ... PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function getAttribute() on a non-object This leads me to believe that PHP is having a memory issue and can not parse the incoming message due to it's size. I was thinking I could just set: ini_set('memory_limit', '64M'); // This has done nothing to fix the problem But would this be the correct approach? Is there a way I could set this to increase with the incoming SOAP request dynamically? UPDATE: Adding some code $data = fopen('php://input','rb'); $headers = getallheaders(); $content_length = $headers['Content-Length']; $buffer_length = 1000; $fread_length = $content_length + $buffer_length; $content = fread($data,$fread_length); /** * Parse values from soap string into DOM XML */ $dom = new DOMDocument(); $dom->loadXML($content); ....

  • To what extent is size a factor in SSD performance?

    - by artif
To what extent is the size of an SSD a factor in its performance? In my mind, correct me if I'm wrong, a bigger SSD should be, everything else being equal, faster than a smaller one. A bigger SSD would have more erase blocks and thus more leeway for the FTL (flash translation layer) to do garbage collection optimization. Also there would be more time before TRIM became necessary. I see on Wikipedia that it remarks that "The performance of the SSD can scale with the number of parallel NAND flash chips used in the device" so it seems throughput also increases significantly. Also many SSDs contain internal caches of some sort and presumably those caches are larger for correspondingly large SSDs. But supposing this effect exists, I would like a quantitative analysis. Does throughput increase linearly? How much is garbage collection impacted, if at all? Does latency stay the same? And so on. Would the performance of a 8 GB SSD be significantly different from, for example, an 80 GB SSD assuming both used high quality chips, controllers, etc? Are there any resources (webpages, research papers, presentations, books, etc) that discuss correlations between SSD performance (4 KB random write speed, latency, maximum sequential throughput, etc) and size? I realize this does not really sound like a programming question but it is relevant for what I'm working on (using flash for caching hard drive data) which does involve programming. If there is a better place to ask this question, eg a more hardware oriented site, what would that be? Something like the equivalent of stack overflow (or perhaps a forum) for in-depth questions on hardware interfaces, internals, etc would be appreciated.

  • Lubuntu 13.10 unable to connect to cups localhost:631

    - by user142139
I am using Lubuntu 13.10 (recently upgraded) and am trying to print to a network printer (HP photosmart 7960) through my router (US Robotics 5461). My printer is connected to the router via USB cable. Normally, I would use the cups configuration interface to set up the wireless connection to the printer. I was able to use the printer through the router wirelessly, using Ubuntu 12.04. Now, with my recently upgraded Lubuntu 13.10, I am unable to get the Cups config webpage (http://localhost:631) to come up. In Chromium, I get: This web page is not available. In Firefox, I get: Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:631. The CUPS config file details are below. • Increase the size of Taskbar Preview Thumbnails in Windows 7

    - by Matthew Guay
Taskbar thumbnail previews are incredibly useful in Windows 7, but for some users they may be too small.  Here’s a tool to help you make your taskbar thumbnail previews just like you want them. A few years ago we featured a tool to increase the size of your thumbnail previews in Windows Vista, but unfortunately this application doesn’t work correctly in Windows 7.  However, there is a new tool for Windows 7 that lets you customize your taskbar thumbnail previews even more in Windows 7.  With it, you can change almost anything about your taskbar thumbnail previews.  The default taskbar thumbnails are nice, but may be too small for users with vision problems or with very high resolution monitors.  Whatever your need, this is a great tool to make the thumbnails looks and work just like you want. Let’s get started Download the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer (link below), and unzip the files.  Run the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer when you’re done.  Simply double-click on it; you don’t need to run it as administrator. Now, you change the size, spacing, margin, and delay time of your taskbar thumbnails.  The Delay Time setting is very handy; to speed things up, we set it to 0 so there’s no delay between when you mouse-over a taskbar icon to when you see the thumbnail.  Simply drag the slider to the size (or time in the delay settings) you want, and click Apply settings.  Windows Explorer will automatically restart, and your new taskbar thumbnails will be ready to use. Here is the default Windows 7 thumbnail preview of a video playing in Media player: And here’s the taskbar thumbnail enlarged to 380px.  Now you can really watch a video from your taskbar thumbnail. The larger taskbar thumbnails show up a little different in Internet Explorer.  It shows a larger preview of your active tab, and smaller previews of your other tabs.  Notice also that Aero peek shows the tab you’re hovering over in Internet Explorer, but the tab name in IE’s toolbar doesn’t change to the one you’re previewing.   Here we increased the width between the thumbnails, while keeping the thumbnails at their default size.  This could be useful if you have trouble selecting the correct preview, and we can imagine it would be a very useful modification on touch screens. And, if you ever take your changes too far, and want to revert to your default Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews, simply run the Customizer again and select Restore Defaults.  Windows Explorer will restart again, and your taskbar thumbnails will be back to their default settings.   Conclusion This tool makes it safe and easy to change the size, spacing, and more of your taskbar thumbnail previews.  And since you can always revert to the default settings, you can experiment without fear of messing up your computer.  If you’d prefer to change the settings manually without using a dedicated application, here’s a list of the registry changes you can make to accomplish this by hand. If you saw my other question, well, there is still a little problem: Click here to watch on youtube Basically, the frame rate is very bad on the actual device, where for some reason the animation is scaled (it looks like the left side on the video). It is quite fast on the simulator where it is not scaled (right side). For a test, I submitted this new changeset that hard-codes the smaller size (plus increases the point size for HII regions to make the dust clouds more visible), and as you see in the video, now it is slow even in the simulator (left side shows the small size, right side shows the original size -- otherwise the code is the same). I'm clueless why it's soooo slow with a smaller galaxy, in fact it should be FASTER. As for general speed optimization (which is not strictly part of my question but is closely related to it, esp. if we need a workaround to speed things up), some initial ideas: reducing the number of items drawn may affect the appearance negatively but screen resolution could be reduced there are too many glBegin(GL_POINTS)/glEnd() blocks, we could draw more than just a single star at once

  • Mouse pointer size problem

    - by Rasmus Pedersen
My mouse cursor is double the normal size. Its only the default pointer that is enlarged. Variations like resize, busy and so on are the correct size. The problem persists even when I change cursor theme. If I move the cursor inside a Firefox window it changes to the correct size. My resolution is 2560x1440, its a single screen setup. Nvidia-settings reports my DPI to be: 108x107. I've tired to force that DPI in the LightDM conf, since I figured it must have something to-do with the DPI calculation. I have tried to change the cursor size through dconf but the problem still remains. I haven't seen this problem before, it arrived after the upgrade from Beta 2 to release version of Ubuntu 11.10. Anybody got any idea what the problem might be, its pretty annoying with the huge cursor.

  • SQL Azure Database Size Calculator

    - by kaleidoscope
A neat trick on how to measure your database size in SQL Azure.  Here are the exact queries you can run to do it: Select Sum (reserved_page_count) * 8.0 / 1024 From sys.dm_db_partition_stats GO Select sys.objects.name, sum (reserved_page_count) * 8.0 / 1024 From sys.dm_db_partition_stats, sys.objects Where sys.dm_db_partition_stats.object_id = sys.objects.object_id Group by sys.objects.name The first one will give you the size of your database in MB and the second one will do the same, but break it out for each object in your database. http://www.azurejournal.com/2010/03/sql-azure-database-size-calculator/   Ritesh, D

  • Tiled perlin/value noise texture with (2^n)+1 size

    - by tobi
Actually what I have in mind is value noise I think, but what I am going to ask applies to both of them. It is known that if you want to produce tiled texture by using the perlin/value noise, the size of the texture should be specified as the power of 2 (2^n). Without any modifications to the algorithm when you use the size of (2^n)+1 the texture cannot be tiled anymore, so I am wondering whether it is possible (by modifying the algorithm somehow) to generate such tiling texture with the size of (2^n)+1. The article (from which I have my implementation) is here: http://devmag.org.za/2009/04/25/perlin-noise/ I am aware that I can produce texture with 2^n size and just copy twice the last column/row from the ends to make it (2^n)+1, but I don't want to, because such repetitions are visible too much.

  • ubuntu image size 732 mb - too big for cd

    - by memius
i have an old pc that can't handle a boot stick install, so i have to create an actual, old fashioned boot cd. however, the image size for ubuntu 12.04 is 732mb, which is too large for cds, which can hold only 700mb. the maintainers of ubuntu 12.04 say the image size will never go over 700mb, and indeed, the download size seemed to be 689mb. Brasero says it won't burn the cd because the file is too big what's going on?

  • Game Asset Size Over Time

    - by jterrace
The size (in bytes) of games have been growing over time. There are probably many factors contributing to this: trailer/cut scene videos being bundled with the game, more and higher-quality audio, multiple levels of detail being used, etc. What I'd really like to know is how the size of 3D models and textures that games ship with have changed over time. For example, if one were to look at the size of meshes and textures for Quake I (1996), Quake II (1997), Quake III: Arena (1999), Quake 4 (2005), and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (2007), I'd imagine a steady increase in file size. Does anyone know of a data source for numbers like this?

  • Problems increasing root size

    - by user212866
I'm running out of space, so I tried to increase root size using this link: Increase size of root partition after installing Ubuntu in Windows Here is the output Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda7 ext4 6,2G 5,6G 308M 95% / udev devtmpfs 965M 4,0K 965M 1% /dev tmpfs tmpfs 389M 892K 388M 1% /run none tmpfs 5,0M 4,0K 5,0M 1% /run/lock none tmpfs 972M 440K 971M 1% /run/shm /dev/sda5 fuseblk 12G 6,1G 5,8G 52% /media/Ubuntu /dev/sda2 fuseblk 278G 260G 19G 94% /media/AC4CC70D4CC6D16E I tried to allocate 16Gb in the host (/dev/sda2 which is windows 7 partition). When I get to the \ubuntu\disks folder, I only get the "new.disk" file which weighs the 16Gb allocated and not the "root.disk" file too. Also, the /dev/sda7 size doesn't increase. Could you please help me? Many thanks
