  • Ubuntu 12.04 x64 LTS VPN Server not changing IP

    - by user288778
I used this guide http://silverlinux.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/how-to-pptp-vpn-on-ubuntu-1204-pptpd.html and it worked fine. I'm able to connect but the problem is, that my IP being changed to "localip" not "remote ip". This is what I get from tail -f /var/log/syslog [code] June 6 00:09:19 instant5860 NetworkManager[1456]: Unmanaged Device found; state CONNECTED forced (see http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889) June 6 00:09:19 instant5860 NetworkManager[1456]: Marking connection 'Wired connection 1' invalid. • 6 important uses of Delegates and Events

In this article we will first try to understand what problem delegate solves, we will then create a simple delegate and try to solve the problem. Next we will try to understand the concept of multicast delegates and how events help to encapsulate delegates. Finally we understand the difference between events and delegates and also understand how to do invoke delegates asynchronously.

  • Can't access some websites using Ubuntu 13.10

    - by Adame Doe
    Something's wrong with Ubuntu. Since I've upgraded to 13.10, I can't access some websites for no apparent reason. I've tried everything imaginable to solve this problem : Made sure that MTUs are the same, Disabled IPv6 in both the network manager and used browsers, Deactivated my network keys, DMZed my computer, Used other DNS like Google and OpenDNS, Checked that no firewall was running my computer ... And it's the same result. I even tried to reinstall Ubuntu a couple of times, but no luck. The most annoying thing about it is I can't access wordpress.org! So, there's no way it could be an ISP restriction of some kind. When I use a VPN, I can access pretty much anything. I'm really frustrated because I have to use wordpress.org very often. Any clue? ifconfig adame@adame-ws:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:26:18:3d:b0:7c inet addr:10.42.0.1 Bcast:10.42.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::226:18ff:fe3d:b07c/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:8024 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:7966 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:684480 (684.4 KB) TX bytes:616608 (616.6 KB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:8222 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:8222 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:568269 (568.2 KB) TX bytes:568269 (568.2 KB) wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:70:40:85:eb inet addr:192.168.2.3 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::219:70ff:fe40:85eb/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1464 Metric:1 RX packets:123705 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:98141 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:94963545 (94.9 MB) TX bytes:10387470 (10.3 MB) /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 adame-ws ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters tracepath wordpress.org 1: adame-ws.local 0.092ms pmtu 1500 1: 192.168.2.1 1.300ms asymm 2 1: 192.168.2.1 1.060ms asymm 2 2: no reply 3: no reply 4: no reply 5: no reply 6: no reply 7: no reply 8: no reply ... keep on going like that ping wordpress.org adame@adame-ws:~$ ping wordpress.org PING wordpress.org (66.155.40.250) 56(84) bytes of data. --- wordpress.org ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 9071ms

Also, after configuring /etc/network/interfaces with the above setup I always get an error message at bootup something about waiting for network configuration. Are these connected?

  • How do I create a wifi network bridge with qemu on OS X?

    - by a paid nerd
I grabbed a small FreeBSD live CD and QEMU, and I'm trying to bridge my Mac OS X 10.8 wifi connection so that the guest OS is available on my LAN. However, the guest OS never gets a DHCP lease. This works perfectly with VirtualBox in their "bridged" network mode, so I know it can be done. I need to get it working with QEMU because VirtualBox doesn't support the architecture that I need for this project. Here's what I've done so far based on hours of googling: Installed TUNTAP for OS X Told OS X to supposedly forward all packets, even ARP: (NOTE: This doesn't appear to work.) $ sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1 $ sudo sysctl -w net.link.ether.inet.proxyall=1 $ sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.fw.enable=1 Created a bridge: $ sudo ifconfig bridge0 create $ sudo ifconfig bridge0 addm en0 addm tap0 $ sudo ifconfig bridge0 up $ ifconfig bridge0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether ac:de:xx:xx:xx:xx Configuration: priority 0 hellotime 0 fwddelay 0 maxage 0 ipfilter disabled flags 0x2 member: en0 flags=3<LEARNING,DISCOVER> port 4 priority 0 path cost 0 member: tap0 flags=3<LEARNING,DISCOVER> port 8 priority 0 path cost 0 tap0: flags=8943<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,PROMISC,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether ca:3d:xx:xx:xx:xx open (pid 88244) Started tcpdump with -I in the hopes that it enables promiscuous mode on the wifi device: $ sudo tcpdump -In -i en0 Run QEMU using the bridged network instructions: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -cdrom mfsbsd-9.2-RELEASE-amd64.iso -m 1024 \ -boot d -net nic -net tap,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no But the guest system never gets a DHCP lease: If I tcpdump -ni tap0, I see lots of traffic from the wireless network. But if I tcpdump -ni en0, I don't see any DHCP traffic from the QEMU guest OS. Any ideas? Update 1: I tried sudo defaults write "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot" "Kernel Flags" "net.inet.ip.scopedroute=0" and rebooting per this mailing list suggestion, but this didn't help. In fact, it made VirtualBox bridged mode stop working.

See below: # ifconfig -a lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000 bge0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2 inet 192.168.62.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.168.62.255 ether 0:14:4f:b1:9b:30 # netstat -rn Routing Table: IPv4 Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface -------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ------ --------- 192.168.62.0 192.168.62.100 U 1 40 bge0 224.0.0.0 192.168.62.100 U 1 0 bge0 default 192.168.62.1 UG 1 0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 1 4 lo0 # # cat /etc/defaultrouter 192.168.62.1 I have verified layer1 and layer 2 are up on the switchport, and that it's on the correct VLAN. I have also checked the default gateawy (192.168.62.1) is in fact reachable since I can ping it from my PC: Pinging 192.168.62.1 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=254 Reply from 192.168.62.1: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=254 I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. I would highly appreciated your assistance. Thank you very much.

  • Ubuntu second static IP, ifconfig, /etc/network/interfaces

    - by Schmoove
I would like to add a second static IP to my local Ubuntu 11.10 desktop machine and have it automatically available after rebooting. So far I am successfully using ifconfig to to temporarily set up an alias for my primary network interface: # ifconfig eth1:0 192.168.178.3 up # ifconfig eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr c8:60:00:ef:a3:d9 inet addr:192.168.178.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::ca60:ff:feef:a3d9/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:61929 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:64034 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:45330863 (45.3 MB) TX bytes:28175192 (28.1 MB) Interrupt:42 Base address:0x4000 eth1:0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr c8:60:00:ef:a3:d9 inet addr:192.168.178.3 Bcast:192.168.178.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 Interrupt:42 Base address:0x4000 However, when I add the following to /etc/network/interfaces, the alias is not up and running as expected after a reboot: # vi /etc/network/interfaces auto eth1:0 iface eth1:0 inet static address 192.168.178.3 netmask 255.255.255.0 I would like to know what to configure to get this to work. • How do I register a service with Bonjour?

    - by Roman
I am trying to start to use Bonjour. Here I found a manual how to register a service with Bonjour. The following is written there: The network services architecture in Bonjour includes an easy-to-use mechanism for publishing, discovering, and using IP-based services. Well let's see how to register a service. In the very beginning it is written: To publish a service, an application or device must register the service with a Multicast DNS responder But how?!?! First of all I do not know what is the Multicast DNS responder. Second, it is not written how do I do it. Where and what should I type? Should I use command line? Should I use some programming languages? What exactly should I type... Is there an easy way to start to use Bonjour? Well, it was emphasized several times how easy it should be to use it. But I cannot start to use it for several day. So, can anybody, pleas, help me with that?

  • keepalived issues on xen domU

Hi, I cannot manage to run keepalived correctly on xen domU. I am following this link for configuration, and it works great on some local VM (running with KVM). If I set up the exact same configuration, but on xen domU, it does not work: both servers do not see each other and decide to be master (10.120.100.99 being the virtual IP) $ sudo ip addr sh eth0 # host1 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 00:16:3e:78:f5:31 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.120.100.104/24 brd 10.120.100.255 scope global eth0 inet 10.120.100.99/32 scope global eth0 inet6 fe80::216:3eff:fe78:f531/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever $ sudo ip addr sh eth0 # host2 2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP qlen 1000 link/ether 00:16:3e:51:36:20 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.120.100.105/24 brd 10.120.100.255 scope global eth0 inet 10.120.100.99/32 scope global eth0 inet6 fe80::216:3eff:fe51:3620/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever Is there a way I could debug this - it seems some people are able to use keepalived on xen following some mailing list, but without much info on their config.

  • Under FreeBSD, can a VLAN interface have a smaller MTU than the primary interface?

    - by larsks
I have a system with two physical interfaces, combined into a LACP aggregation group. That LACP channel has two VLANs, one untagged (the "native vlan") and one using VLAN tagging. This gives us: lagg0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=19b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,TSO4> ether 00:25:90:1d:fe:8e inet 10.243.24.23 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.243.24.255 media: Ethernet autoselect status: active laggproto lacp laggport: em1 flags=1c<ACTIVE,COLLECTING,DISTRIBUTING> laggport: em0 flags=1c<ACTIVE,COLLECTING,DISTRIBUTING> vlan0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500 options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM> ether 00:25:90:1d:fe:8e inet 10.243.16.23 netmask 0xffffff80 broadcast 10.243.16.127 media: Ethernet autoselect status: active vlan: 610 parent interface: lagg0 Is it possible to set a 9K MTU on lagg0 while preserving the 1500 byte MTU on vlan0? Normally I would simply try this out, but this is actually on a vendor-supported platform and I am loathe to make changes "behind the back" of their administration interface. This system is roughly FreeBSD 7.3.

  • linux container bridge filters ARP reply

    - by Dani Camps
I am using kernel 3.0, and I have configured a linux container that is bridged to a tap interface in my host computer. This is the bridge configuration: :~$ brctl show bridge-1 bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces bridge-1 8000.9249c78a510b no ns3-mesh-tap-1 vethjUErij My problem is that this bridge is dropping ARP replies that come from the ns3-mesh-tap-1 interface. Instead, if I statically populate the ARP tables and ping directly everything works, so it has to be something related to ARP. I have read about similar problems in related posts, and I have tried with the solutions explained therein but nothing seems to work. Specifically: ~$ grep net.bridge /etc/sysctl.conf net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-ip6tables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-vlan-tagged = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-pppoe-tagged = 0 arptables and ebtables are not installed. iptables FORWARD is all set to accept: Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination The bridged interfaces are set to PROMISC: ~$ ifconfig ns3-mesh-tap-1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 1a:c7:24:ef:36:1a ... UP BROADCAST PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 vethjUErij Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr aa:b0:d1:3b:9a:0a .... UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 The macs learned by the bridge are correct (checked with brctl showmacs). Any insight on what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards Daniel

  • When should NTPd broadcast/broadcastclient be used instead of client/server or peer modes?

    - by Luke404
The NTP deamon if often used in its simplest mode, which is client/server: you specify one or more server directives in your ntp.conf and your clients will use those servers. In addition to that, when you run your own NTP servers, it is good practice to peer them together, so if one of them looses connectivity to its upstream servers, it will get time from its peers. But NTPd can also work with broadcast and/or multicast distribution of time data, with the documentation stating: broadcast and multicast modes are intended for configurations involving one or a few servers and a possibly very large client population The documentation also says elsewhere: It is possible and frequently useful to configure a host as both broadcast client and broadcast server. A number of hosts configured this way and sharing a common broadcast address will automatically organize themselves in an optimum configuration based on stratum and synchronization distance. I can see one obvious administrative benefit: you don't have to manually specify and update your list of NTP servers in the clients ntp.conf, so to me it looks tempting to use broadcast mode even for a small client population (say 5+ clients with 3~4 servers). I expect network traffic to be a little higher with broadcasts instead of client/server associations, but given the usual gigabit ethernet LAN the impact should be negligible unless you have a very very large number of hosts in the same broadcast domain. At the end of the day, when should broadcast mode be used or avoided? Are there pros and cons I haven't seen?

  • Ubuntu 10.04 network manager issues

I was using the default network manager to connect to my wi-fi network, but if the connection is dropped or router restarted the network manager wont reconnect automatically after i guess a couple of tries and just gives a pop-up to connect manually . To avoid this annoyance I installed WICD but though it does try to reconnect to the network after a drop in connection it is unable to resolve the ip address and i am left with an even bigger annoyance . 1. Is there a way to counter either of these issues ? 2. Something like a background process that will check network status periodically and then try to connect to a favored network ? Now when I try to connect Desktop A to Laptop A or vice-versa by ssh [email protected] I get an error as port 22: No route to host in both the cases. I own both the machines, now if I try same commands from my friend's machine, i.e. via Desktop B, I can access both my Laptop and Desktop. But if I try to access Desktop B from my Laptop or by Desktop I get port 22: Connection timed out I even tried changing ssh port no. in ssh_config file but no success. Note: that 'Laptop A' uses WiFi connection while 'Machine A' uses Ethernet Connection and 'Machine B' is on an entirely different network. Laptop A && Desktop A - Router/Nano_Rcvr provided to me by ISP. So to one Router two Machines are connected and can be accessed at the same time. here is my ifconfig output for both the machines :- Laptop wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr X:X:X:X:00:bc inet addr:1.23.73.111 Bcast:1.23.95.255 Mask:255.255.224.0 inet6 addr: fe80::219:e3ff:fe04:bc/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:108409 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:82523 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:44974080 (44.9 MB) TX bytes:22973031 (22.9 MB) Desktop eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr X:X:X:X:c5:78 inet addr:1.23.68.209 Bcast:1.23.95.255 Mask:255.255.224.0 inet6 addr: fe80::227:eff:fe04:c578/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:10380 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:4509 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:1790366 (1.7 MB) TX bytes:852877 (852.8 KB) Interrupt:43 Base address:0x2000
