  • PDF rendering of images seems to vary from viewer to viewer with blurring?

    I'm generating PDF figures in Adobe Illustrator CS5 that include embedded images. I've noticed that the images look dramatically different when I display the same PDF in Preview, Skim or Adobe Reader (I'm on OS X). See screenshots. Adobe Reader displays them "correctly" while Skim and Preview blurs the image out each in a different way. Is there a setting I can set when saving my PDF from Illustrator so that the images are displayed correctly in Skim and Preview? The PDF was generated in Illustrator and saved without any compression or downsampling.     Two part question: I am having a difficulty regarding receiving my mail. I have 3 Gmail accounts & 1 Yahoo account. In Windows, I use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. What email client can I use on my Mac? The second part is that my system administrator has banned accessing Gmail and Yahoo mail via their websites. Is it possible to still access it anyway?

  • Automatically detect faces in a picture

    At my work place, passport sized photographs are scanned together, then cut up into individual pictures and saved with unique file numbers. Currently we use Paint.net to manually select, cut and save the pictures. I have seen Sony's Cybershot Camera has face detection. Google also gives me something about iphoto when searching for face detection. Picasa has facedetection too. Are there any ways to autodetect the faces in a document, which would improve productivity at my workplace by reducing the time needed to cut up individual images. Does Word have the ability to let me select which page of the mulipage tiff I want to insert or do I have to break the TIFF file up (which would be a pain)?

  • Assisting a user using VNC

    I'm trying to help a friend with their computer remotely. He has a version of VNC, I'm not sure which one, so I downloaded and installed the VNC Viewer and Listening Viewer. I ask my friend for his IP address and port number, and he tells me that every time he's used it, the person giving him assistance (remotely controlling his computer) gave him some kind of number. I should note that my friend is not tech savy, and it may have been an IP address, but I'm not sure. What kind of number would the user be looking for? Does this indicate his version of VNC, Does that even matter? I am completly forign to VNC and don't know where to begin looking for an answer myself, and (for whatever reason) I can't ask my friend to figure out what version of VNC he is using.

    I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?

  • How to find the source of a cryptic event viewer log

    I'm looking at the eventviewer logs, and I see a bunch Error entries in the Application log. (Windows Server 2008 R1). There is an error written to the logs about every 4 seconds. I need to find out which application is causing these events, is there anyway to find this out?   • remote desktop computer viewer?

    I would like to install a quad core computer in my dorm at college and use my much slower laptop to be able to control the quad core just as if I had a quad core laptop (control as in i see the gui, not command line control)! Both are on the same college network, though Im also interested in what would be necessary if the computers were on different networks. What would be the best method fot this?     I have been asked at work to find a solution to one of our problems. We have several logs that customers need access to, because we don't want to give them direct access to the folder/share we are looking to implement a simple Web based solution that permits customers to login see a list of files they have permissions to and download the file. It would need to be able to setup permissions so User01 can see file01 and file03 and User02 can see file04 and file06, optimally all the files would be under the same folder, so permissions are based on files rather then based on folders. Anyone got any ideas Many Thanks

    Does anyone know of a free utility that allows you to paste into it a graphics file (any type would work for me, jpg, bmp, png, etc) and it will size the file to within a preset size boundary? For instance, if I preset it to resize files to be a maximum of 400 wide by 300 tall, and I paste in a file 500x500, it would shrink the file to fit within the 300 tall limit. Thanks.

    I've been sent a DVD which needs to be put onto a website, but I honestly don't even know where to start. Do I simply convert the file using some software to MP4(?!) and then use something like http://videojs.com/ to view it online? I'm really sorry for the vague question, but I want to produce the best quality results, with good compression, good quality and a nice video player interface.   • Windows 7 Desktop background picture in Group Policy displaying black - XP working correctly

    We want everyone on the Windows Domain to have the same desktop background. This is set up in a Group Policy. This works great in Windows XP but the Windows 7 machines display a black background. I have re-created the Group Policy, done various tests with different types and sizes of files Enabling and Disabling Active Desktop. I have researched and tried some options and patches from Microsoft as well. Any idea what I can try or even how to determine the problem?

    Not sure what to call it but, is there a birds eye view tool for excel to show the data flow between excel sheets/cels etc? I have inherited some huge reports and looking at each cell to see where it's data comes from or what sheet/cell dependencies it has is a nightmare. Or even just something with excel that show the dependencies within a sheet of cells to each other etc. Or Any other visualization tool that can show the data flow between cells ( I tried visio but it seemed it is only for making diagrams of data not the data model of excel itself ). Or at least if I am within a cell and see a formula referring to other sheets and cells, is there a quick way to navigate there and back? Like code navigation in VS? Thank you for your help

  • Image annotation with Inkscape, Pointer and explanation for objects in picture

    I need straight paths with end markers for associating text to parts of the image. For better readability, it needs to be high-contrast, i.e. a white line with black outline. Stroke to path will create a group of a box and a circle from the line with end marker. This makes placement of the markers more difficult, as with the node tool it is just a matter of dragging the end nodes of a line segment. I will try to place the markers as line for now and only finally converting them to an outline.

  • iPhone: UIImagePickerController Randomly Fails to Take Picture

    I use a UIPickerViewController to take picture. It works 80% but seemingly at random it fails to take a picture. In tracing the code I found out that it occasionally goes to -PinRecordNewTableViewController:viewDidUnload.   • UIImagePickerController shows last picture taken instead of camera input

    I'm having a strange behaviour within my app. For taking pictures i'm using the following pretty standard code for displaying the UIImagePickerController: UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.delegate = self; picker.allowsEditing = NO; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; [self presentViewController:picker animated:YES completion:nil]; It works perfectly fine the first time I tap the button which calls this action. The strange behaviour starts when I tap that button again. The UIImagePickerController starts again BUT it doesnt show the input from the camera anymore. It shows the last picture I've taken. More Details of this state: Tapping on the image shows the yellow square of the auto focus. (which it actually uses to focus the camera correctly) When I tap on the ImageCapture button - the correct image is taken and presented on the screen. If I take a picture and press 'Retake' the regular camera image is presented as input. More weirdness: It has nothing to do with the iPad I'm using. Creating a new example app which only has button which calls the code from above everything works perfectly fine. I assume it has something to do with the configuration of the app. Therefore I checked everything but could not find any differences which may cause this issue. Thanks in advance for any advice! Update: I do implement the UIImagePickerControllerDelegate in order to dismiss the UIImagePickerController.

    I'm trying to use a standard Intent that will take a picture, then allow approval or retake. Then I want to save the picture into a file. Here's the Intent I am using: Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); startActivityForResult( intent, 22 ); The docs at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/MediaStore.html#ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE say "The caller may pass an extra EXTRA_OUTPUT to control where this image will be written. If the EXTRA_OUTPUT is not present, then a small sized image is returned as a Bitmap object in the extra field. If the EXTRA_OUTPUT is present, then the full-sized image will be written to the Uri value of EXTRA_OUTPUT." I don't pass extra output, I hope to get a Bitmap object in the extra field of the Intent passed into onActivityResult() (for this request). So where/how do you extract it? Intent has a getExtras(), but that returns a Bundle, and Bundle wants a key string to give you something back. What do you invoke on the Intent to extract the bitmap?

  • Recommend a good db4o viewer

    I'm playing around with db4o, and I have the Object Manager viewer thingy for Visual Studio. It seems okay, but not exactly on par with tools like HeidiSQL/SQL Studio/etc., not to mention that it locks the db4o file--I can't use my db4o app and Object Manager at the same time. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but regardless, I'd like to know what else is out there. What tools would you recommend for looking at and manipulating db4o files?

    Hey stackoverflow community, I am looking for a Document Viewer application that I can embed in a Flash/Flex application that supports Microsoft Office documents as well as PDF. I have looked into print2flash as a possibility, but their automated converter executable requires access to the files and directories. Does anyone know of other alternatives which would have .NET/Java/Other libraries to convert these files to a SWF that can do it based on the download stream, as opposed to the actual files? Thanks!
