  • Microsoft Server 2003 Explorer shows duplicate local shares

    Hi folks, I am new here and I could really use some advice please. I am having a problem with our file server. When I try to browse the shared folders using explorer, several of the shared folders all appear to have the same name. Whenever I attempt to rename one of the affected folders, all the affected folders name also change. Our File Server is Windows Server 2003 R2. I am logged on directly to the server using remote desktop. When I open the folder all is as it should be, the proper content is there and the address bar displays the correct folder name and path. The share names are correct, so everything that needs to access the shared folder/files can do so. Also when I browse to the folder using the command-line all it as it should be there too. The only issue seems to be the incorrect display name when browsing using explorer. Can anyone offer any advice or help as to how to resolve this issue please? It would be most appreciated. Thanks

  • Modifying value of "Rating" column within Explorer for arbitrary file types

    Basically, I have a large body of assorted media (text, images, flash files, archives, folders, etc...) and I'm attempting to organize it. Windows Explorer has a rating column, but there seems to be no way to modify the rating of the files short of opening them in their type-specific software (e.g. Media player, or Photo viewer). However, this does not work when the file is of an unsupported type (.rar, .swf ...), or a directory. I'd be more than willing to consider a file-manager replacement (I've alreadly looked at quite a few, Directory Opus, Total Commander, etc...), or even a solution that stores the rating metadata in a hidden file in each folder, or a separate database. The one real critical requirement is the ability to sort by rating, and being filetype-agnostic. Basically, is there any way to categorize a large collection of assorted files by rating that will work with any file type, including directories? - Ideally, there would be an easy way to add arbitrary columns to windows explorer, and edit them directly. However, there seems to be no way to do this. The rating column is the next best thing.

  • Searching SharePoint site with Windows Explorer

    Every week, I manually backup recent versions of the files on my group's SharePoint site. I open the library in Windows Explorer, search for all files modified in the past week, then copy and paste them to a network location. We need this process because our SharePoint site has a quota that we would easily meet if we had unlimited versions, so we keep a history of older versions on the network. Recently I got an upgrade to my work computer and I am unable to search the site using Windows Explorer. When I run the search for files modified in the last week no results are returned. If I run a search with no criteria on the file library, all the files are found but the "modified on" field is blank. So the search results only have the file and type fields. The new computer has Windows XP, just like the old one did. I hope this makes sense. Does anyone have any clue what the problem could be? I'd be happy to provide more info if necessary. It's bugging me to no end and I'm not even sure where to begin looking - it's either a trivial issue or a very obscure one. Thanks a lot.

    We're rolling out a redesign of helpcurenow.org, and we've implemented a Twitter feed in the footer. (I'm the design & front end guy, my coworker is the scripting & backend guy). All is well with the Twitter feed in all major browsers except internet explorer, version 8 and later. However we have no clue why IE is not pulling the feed at all.   • Process Rules!

    One of the key components of a process is “Business Rule”. Business rule takes many forms inside your process definition and in a way is a manifestation of your company’s business policy. Business rules inside the process are used for policy enforcement, governance, decision management, operations efficiency etc. Following are some basic types of rules that can be a part of your process. 1. Process conditions:  These are defined as the process gateways that determine a path process will take depending on the process parameters. For Example, if discount >10% go to approval path : if discount < 10% auto-approve order. 2. Data rules: These business rules are defined as facts in decision table or knowledge base. The process captures all required parameters and submits those to RETE based rules engine. Rules engine processes the data and returns the result back. For example, rules determining your insurance eligibility. 3. Event rules: Here the system is monitoring the various events and events patterns that are emerging inside the process or external to the process. You can define actions or alerts to be triggered when a certain pattern of events emerges over a specified time period. Such types of rules need Complex Event Processing and are used in applications like Credit Card Fraud detection or Utility Demand Response. 4. User Interface Rules: In order to add dynamic behavior to UI or to keep users from making mistakes and enforcing policy, another mechanism available is UI rules. They are evaluated as the end user is filling out the web forms. These may include enabling and disabling of UI as per business policy. An example could be, if the age of a user is less than 13 years, disable credit card field and enable parental approval required checkbox. Your process may include many of such rule types.   • How to start "explorer" process using command line (Vista)?

    Is there a way to start windows "explorer" process from command line? Because of some problem in my Vista OS, explorer process crashes frequently (i can not see TaskBar after that) but using the open windows i can access the cmd.exe ( ctrl+alt+delete does not work). If there could be a command to start "explorer" process again or to start the Task manager then that would help a lot. Thanks Edit: explorer command starts the explorer process, but alt+ctrl+del is still not working, any help?

  • How do I change Firefox's user agent via about:config?

    My work has blocked Internet access with Firefox. I know how to change the value of “general.useragent.extra.firefox” through about:config, but when I try to change it to IE, I still can’t access any website. I have Firefox 3.5.6 and Internet Explorer 7 installed on my desktop. Now, would I have to use the user agent that Internet Explorer 7 is currently using on my computer or can I use any Internet Explorer user agent? The user agent that Internet Explorer 7 is using right now is: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.5.21022). Do I just copy that and use it as the user agent in Firefox? How can I make this work?

  • Does Internet Explorer 7 have a CSS parsing issue with the "background-image" property?

    Having CSS layout issues with Internet Explorer 7 (big surprise). Upon using the Developer Tools to inspect the CSS, I discovered that some properties defined in the stylesheet are not appearing in the parsed CSS structure... THEN I saw THIS being shown as the parsed value for the background-image property: background-image : url(/trunk/httpdocs/images/layout/HCBL_Homepage_01.jpg); WIDTH: 1200px; pretty much obliterating the width that was defined property. The actual code in the CSS file for this element: div#header { width: 1200px; height: 100px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; background-image: url('/trunk/httpdocs/images/layout/HCBL_Homepage_01.jpg'); background-repeat: no-repeat; } If anyone could offer any insight, or provide a link describing this problem (and maybe a workaround...) I would be very appreciative. Also, I am only interested in this from a parsing of the stylesheet and CSS syntax perspective. I am not concerned with rendering and display issues at the moment; I simply want to get IE 7 (and I have a feeling IE 6 will have similar issues) to recognize and parse ALL of the CSS properties that have been defined in the stylesheet.     The new version of Process Explorer shows network activity history, but it doesn't in one of my computers. This particular PC runs Windows XP SP3 and it has just been reformatted so everything is "fresh". I have even installed WinPCap and Microsoft Network monitor, in case some of these drivers were necessary, but the graph stays in 0. Any ideas why this could happen? I would ask in Sysinternal's forum, but I really don't want to register in yet another forum.

  • Slow Windows Explorer on Windows 7

    I have Laptop with i7 (4 cores), 8GB ram and SSD OCZ Vertex 3 MaxIOPS which in testing that I did just now does 400mb/s+ read/write. However the responsiveness of Windows Explorer is far from being perfect. Opening up Computer, Documents, going into folders is very slow (1-5seconds). I don't have any viruses or spyware and I have tried changing properties to optimize view for General Items. I tried disabling Search Indexer but it made search in Outlook 2010 crawl and didn't bring any other effect. Even double clicking on file takes some time to open things up (like clicking a Word document). I don't have any drives mapped, my computer is not joined to domain. I have multiple VPN connections that I connect to but they all have disabled default gateways. I tried using CC Cleaner or some Windows 7 Tweaks app to disable some things. I am power user using Visual Studio, Tortoise SVN and other developer/administration apps. Any non obvious ideas? Edit: So I've been trying to pinpoint where the issue comes from and it seems that straight after reboot Windows Explorer opens very fast, when I load 3-4 programs (Royal TS, Visual Studio, Outlook) it's noticeably slower and the more programs I have it gets worse. After I start closing programs it starts working better and if I leave 2 open it's fast again. I tried doing some research with DiskMon and other programs from sysinternals but couldn't find anything suspicious.   • Tortoise SVN appears to freeze Explorer

    When updating a repository using Tortoise SVN, Explorer on Windows XP tends to choke and freeze in regular intervals. Something like 4 seconds freeze, 1 second fluent work. I imagine this may be caused by the (too many) svn:externals? Is this a known issue? Do you know of a way to fix this?

    So I just upgraded my system to the Windows 7 RTM, and I've noticed they took away the ability to customize the shortcuts in the Games Explorer. Is there a third-party application that would allow me to customize the shortcuts without having to do so manually? I know how to do it, but it's a pain, and I'd rather have a GUI do the dirty work for me.
