  • Making flexible C# code in MVC2 for Stored Procedures

    - by cc0
    Thanks to Darin Dimitrov's suggestion I got a big step further in understanding good MVC code, but I'm having some problems making it flexible. I implemented Darin's suggested solution, and it works perfectly for single controllers. However I'm having some trouble implementing it with some flexibility. What I'm looking for is this; To be able to make dynamic column names in json Instead of using "Column1: 'value', ..." and "Column2: 'value', ..." inside the json, I'd like to use for example "id: 'value', ..." and "place: 'value' ..." for one stored procedure, and "animal" and "type" in another (inside the json format). To be able to make dynamic amounts of columns dependent on which stored procedure is called Some stored procedures I'll want to read more than 2 rows from, is there a smart way of accomplishing that? To be able to make numeric (floats and integers) rows from the database be presented inside the json without quotes Like this (name and age); { Column1: "John", Column2: 53 }, I would be very grateful for any feedback and suggestions / code examples I can get here. Even imperfect ones.

  • How to configure C# Typed Datasets when calling OracleDataAdapter.Update() on Oracle Stored Procedur

    - by John_D
    I am writing a C# Windows Forms application which calls Oracle stored procedures. I chose to use typed datasets in the application, these correctly populate various datagrids, but I am having trouble when invoking the UpdateCommand or the InsertCommand. I have manually coded these commands because a) I am using Oracle stored procedures and b) I don't trust CommandBuilder ;) I am using VS2008 and Oracle 9i I don't have trouble executing stored procedures in SQL Server or Oracle when simply calling them from the .ExecuteNonQuery command; neither do I have problems executing SQL statements directly and updating the database. The problems only arise when executing the changed rows with OracleDataAdapter.Update(). I am specifying the correct set of rows (added, changed etc.) The main error I am getting (after a lot of experimentation with increasingly simpler SPs finishing with just one int parameter) is "PLS-00306: wrong number or type of arguments in call to 'PROCNAME'" I have tried prefixing the Oracle parameter both with ':' and without. Suffice to say I am losing the will to live. Has anyone any more ideas I could try next? Thanks

  • How do I get a single value from a stored proc using Nettiers

    - by Micah
    I have a really simple stored procedure that looks like this: CREATE PROCEDURE _Visitor_GetVisitorIDByVisitorGUID ( @VisitorGUID AS UNIQUEIDENTIFIER ) AS DECLARE @VisitorID AS bigint SELECT @VisitorID = VisitorID FROM dbo.Visitor WHERE VisitorGUID = @VisitorGUID --Here's what I've tried RETURN @VisitorID 'Returns an IDataReader SELECT @VisitorID 'Returns an IDataReader --I've also set it up wuth a single output --parameter, but that means I need to pass --the long in by ref and that's hideous to me I'm trying to get nettiers to generate a method with this signature: public long VisitorService.GetVisitorIDByVisitorGUID(GUID visitorGUID); Basically I want Nettiers to call ExecuteScalar instead of ExecuteReader. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to get the answers version and use it in IF loop

  • Advice on optimzing speed for a Stored Procedure that uses Views

    - by Belliez
    Based on a previous question and with a lot of help from Damir Sudarevic (thanks) I have the following sql code which works great but is very slow. Can anyone suggest how I can speed this up and optimise for speed. I am now using SQL Server Express 2008 (not 2005 as per my original question). What this code does is retrieves parameters and their associated values from several tables and rotates the table in a form that can be easily compared. Its great for one of two rows of data but now I am testing with 100 rows and to run GetJobParameters takes over 7 minutes to complete? Any advice is gratefully accepted, thank you in advanced. /*********************************************************************************************** ** CREATE A VIEW (VIRTUAL TABLE) TO ALLOW EASIER RETREIVAL OF PARMETERS ************************************************************************************************/ CREATE VIEW dbo.vParameters AS SELECT m.MachineID AS [Machine ID] ,j.JobID AS [Job ID] ,p.ParamID AS [Param ID] ,t.ParamTypeID AS [Param Type ID] ,m.Name AS [Machine Name] ,j.Name AS [Job Name] ,t.Name AS [Param Type Name] ,t.JobDataType AS [Job DataType] ,x.Value AS [Measurement Value] ,x.Unit AS [Unit] ,y.Value AS [JobDataType] FROM dbo.Machines AS m JOIN dbo.JobFiles AS j ON j.MachineID = m.MachineID JOIN dbo.JobParams AS p ON p.JobFileID = j.JobID JOIN dbo.JobParamType AS t ON t.ParamTypeID = p.ParamTypeID LEFT JOIN dbo.JobMeasurement AS x ON x.ParamID = p.ParamID LEFT JOIN dbo.JobTrait AS y ON y.ParamID = p.ParamID GO -- Step 2 CREATE VIEW dbo.vJobValues AS SELECT [Job Name] ,[Param Type Name] ,COALESCE(cast([Measurement Value] AS varchar(50)), [JobDataType]) AS [Val] FROM dbo.vParameters GO /*********************************************************************************************** ** GET JOB PARMETERS FROM THE VIEW JUST CREATED ************************************************************************************************/ CREATE PROCEDURE GetJobParameters AS -- Step 3 DECLARE @Params TABLE ( id int IDENTITY (1,1) ,ParamName varchar(50) ); INSERT INTO @Params (ParamName) SELECT DISTINCT [Name] FROM dbo.JobParamType -- Step 4 DECLARE @qw TABLE( id int IDENTITY (1,1) , txt nchar(300) ) INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT 'SELECT' UNION SELECT '[Job Name]' ; INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT ',MAX(CASE [Param Type Name] WHEN ''' + ParamName + ''' THEN Val ELSE NULL END) AS [' + ParamName + ']' FROM @Params ORDER BY id; INSERT INTO @qw (txt) SELECT 'FROM dbo.vJobValues' UNION SELECT 'GROUP BY [Job Name]' UNION SELECT 'ORDER BY [Job Name]'; -- Step 5 --SELECT txt FROM @qw DECLARE @sql_output VARCHAR (MAX) SET @sql_output = '' -- NULL + '' = NULL, so we need to have a seed SELECT @sql_output = -- string to avoid losing the first line. • Stored insert procedure in plpgsql

    - by crazyphoton
    I want to do something like this in PostgreSQL. I tried this: CREATE or replace FUNCTION create_patient(_name text, _email text, _phone text, _password text, _field1 text, _field2 text, _field3 timestamp, _field4 text, OUT _pid integer, OUT _id integer) RETURNS record AS $$ DECLARE _id integer; _type text; _pid integer; BEGIN _type := 'patient'; INSERT into patients (name, email, phone, field1, field2, field3) values (_name, _email, _phone, _field1, _field2, _field3) RETURNING id into _pid; INSERT into users (username, password, type, pid, phone, language) values (_email, _password, _type, _pid, _phone, _field4) RETURNING id into _id; END; $$ LANGUAGE plpgsql; But there are a lot of instances where I would not want to specify some of field1/field2/field3/field4 and want the unspecified fields to use the default value in the table. Currently that is not possible, because to call this function I need to specify all fields. TLDR; Is there a simple way to create a wrapper procedure for INSERT in PL/pgSQL where I can specify which fields I want to insert?

  • Insert Stored Procedure, Using Asp.Net WebForm to Insert new [Customer]

    - by user2953815
    Can someone please help me create a stored procedure to insert a new customer from a web form. • advanced select in Stored Procedure

    - by Auro
    Hey i got this Table: CREATE TABLE Test_Table ( old_val VARCHAR2(3), new_val VARCHAR2(3), Updflag NUMBER, WorkNo NUMBER ); and this is in my Table: INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('1',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('3',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); now my Table Looks like this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 '1' ' 20' 0 0 2 '2' ' 20' 0 0 3 '2' ' 30' 0 0 4 '3' ' 30' 0 0 5 '4' ' 40' 0 0 6 '5' ' 40' 0 0 (if the value in the new_val column are same then they are together and the same goes to old_val) so in the example above row 1-4 are together and row 5-6 at the moment i have in my Stored Procedure a cursor: SELECT t1.Old_val, t1.New_val, t1.updflag, t1.WorkNo FROM Test_Table t1 WHERE t1.New_val = ( SELECT t2.New_val FROM Test_Table t2 WHERE t2.Updflag = 0 AND t2.Worknr = 0 AND ROWNUM = 1 ) the output is this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 1 20 0 0 2 2 20 0 0 my Problem is, i dont know how to get row 1 to 4 with one select. (i had an idea with 4 sub-querys but this wont work if its more data that matches together) does anyone of you have an idea?

  • Using C# 4.0’s DynamicObject as a Stored Procedure Wrapper

    - by EltonStoneman
    [Source: http://geekswithblogs.net/EltonStoneman] Overview Ignoring the fashion, I still make a lot of use of DALs – typically when inheriting a codebase with an established database schema which is full of tried and trusted stored procedures. In the DAL a collection of base classes have all the scaffolding, so the usual pattern is to create a wrapper class for each stored procedure, giving typesafe access to parameter values and output. DAL calls then looks like instantiate wrapper-populate parameters-execute call:       using (var sp = new uspGetManagerEmployees())     {         sp.ManagerID = 16;         using (var reader = sp.Execute())         {             //map entities from the output         }     }   Or rolling it all into a fluent DAL call – which is nicer to read and implicitly disposes the resources:   This is fine, the wrapper classes are very simple to handwrite or generate. But as the codebase grows, you end up with a proliferation of very small wrapper classes: The wrappers don't add much other than encapsulating the stored procedure call and giving you typesafety for the parameters. With the dynamic extension in .NET 4.0 you have the option to build a single wrapper class, and get rid of the one-to-one stored procedure to wrapper class mapping. In the dynamic version, the call looks like this:       dynamic getUser = new DynamicSqlStoredProcedure("uspGetManagerEmployees", Database.AdventureWorks);     getUser.ManagerID = 16;       var employees = Fluently.Load<List<Employee>>()                             .With<EmployeeMap>()                             .From(getUser);   The important difference is that the ManagerId property doesn't exist in the DynamicSqlStoredProcedure class. Declaring the getUser object with the dynamic keyword allows you to dynamically add properties, and the DynamicSqlStoredProcedure class intercepts when properties are added and builds them as stored procedure parameters. When getUser.ManagerId = 16 is executed, the base class adds a parameter call (using the convention that parameter name is the property name prefixed by "@"), specifying the correct SQL Server data type (mapping it from the type of the value the property is set to), and setting the parameter value. Code Sample This is worked through in a sample project on github – Dynamic Stored Procedure Sample – which also includes a static version of the wrapper for comparison. (I'll upload this to the MSDN Code Gallery once my account has been resurrected). Points worth noting are: DynamicSP.Data – database-independent DAL that has all the data plumbing code. DynamicSP.Data.SqlServer – SQL Server DAL, thin layer on top of the generic DAL which adds SQL Server specific classes. Includes the DynamicSqlStoredProcedure base class. DynamicSqlStoredProcedure.TrySetMember. Invoked when a dynamic member is added. Assumes the property is a parameter named after the SP parameter name and infers the SqlDbType from the framework type. Adds a parameter to the internal stored procedure wrapper and sets its value. uspGetManagerEmployees – the static version of the wrapper. uspGetManagerEmployeesTest – test fixture which shows usage of the static and dynamic stored procedure wrappers. The sample uses stored procedures from the AdventureWorks database in the SQL Server 2008 Sample Databases. Discussion For this scenario, the dynamic option is very favourable. Assuming your DAL is itself wrapped by a higher layer, the stored procedure wrapper classes have very little reuse. Even if you're codegening the classes and test fixtures, it's still additional effort for very little value. The main consideration with dynamic classes is that the compiler ignores all the members you use, and evaluation only happens at runtime. In this case where scope is strictly limited that's not an issue – but you're relying on automated tests rather than the compiler to find errors, but that should just encourage better test coverage. Also you can codegen the dynamic calls at a higher level. Performance may be a consideration, as there is a first-time-use overhead when the dynamic members of an object are bound. For a single run, the dynamic wrapper took 0.2 seconds longer than the static wrapper. The framework does a good job of caching the effort though, so for 1,000 calls the dynamc version still only takes 0.2 seconds longer than the static: You don't get IntelliSense on dynamic objects, even for the declared members of the base class, and if you've been using class names as keys for configuration settings, you'll lose that option if you move to dynamics. The approach may make code more difficult to read, as you can't navigate through dynamic members, but you do still get full debugging support.     var employees = Fluently.Load<List<Employee>>()                             .With<EmployeeMap>()                             .From<uspGetManagerEmployees>                             (                                 i => i.ManagerID = 16,                                 x => x.Execute()                             );

  • Get return values from a stored procedure in c# (login process)

    - by Jin
    Hi all, I am trying to use a Stored Procedure which takes two parameters (login, pw) and returns the user info. If I execute the SP manually, I get Session_UID User_Group_Name Sys_User_Name ------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------- - NULL Administrators NTMSAdmin No rows affected. (1 row(s) returned) @RETURN_VALUE = 0 Finished running [dbo].[p_SYS_Login]. But with the code below, I only get the return value. do you know how to get the other values shown above like Session_UID, User_Group_Name, and Sys_User_Name ? if you see the commented part below code. I tried to add some output parameters but it doesn't work with incorrect number of parameters error. string strConnection = Settings.Default.ConnectionString; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(strConnection)) { using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand()) { SqlDataReader rdr = null; cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = "p_SYS_Login"; //cmd.CommandText = "p_sys_Select_User_Group"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; SqlParameter paramReturnValue = new SqlParameter(); paramReturnValue.ParameterName = "@RETURN_VALUE"; paramReturnValue.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Int; paramReturnValue.SourceColumn = null; paramReturnValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue; //SqlParameter paramGroupName = new SqlParameter("@User_Group_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramGroupName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; //SqlParameter paramUserName = new SqlParameter("@Sys_User_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramUserName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramReturnValue); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramGroupName); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramUserName); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Login", textUserID.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Password", textPassword.Text); try { conn.Open(); object result = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); int returnValue = (int)cmd.Parameters["@RETURN_VALUE"].Value; if (returnValue == 0) { Hide(); Program.MapForm.Show(); } else if (returnValue == 1) { MessageBox.Show("The username or password you entered is incorrect", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else if (returnValue == 2) { MessageBox.Show("This account is disabled", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else { MessageBox.Show("Database error.   • Npgsql pass parameters by name to a stored function

    - by Jeff
    I'm working with code I'm converting to Pgsql working with .NET. I want to call a stored function that has several parameters, but I'd like to bind the parameters by name, like so: NpgsqlCommand command = new NpgsqlCommand("\"StoredFunction\"", _Connection) command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; command.Parameters.Add("param2", value2); command.PArameters.Add("param1", value1); Attempts to do this so far look for a function with parameter types matching in the order in which I added the parameters to the collection, not by name. Is it possible for Npgsql to bind parameters to stored functions by name?

  • Unit Testing, IDataContext and Stored Procedures via Linq

    - by Terry_Brown
    hey folks, I'm currently using Stephen Walther's approach to unit testing Linq to SQL and the datacontext (http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2008/08/17/asp-net-mvc-tip-33-unit-test-linq-to-sql.aspx) which is working a treat for all things linq. My Dal layer takes in an IDataContext, I use DI (via Unity) to concrete that up as the correct DataContext object and all works well. But - we have a company policy here of writes going via Stored Procs. Has anyone come up with a solution for mocking/faking the data context and still allowing stored procs to effectively be unit tested? I've got no real experience of any of the mocking frameworks (Rhino etc.) so if these are the correct means of doing this, I'd love some pointers on guides for them. Many thanks, Terry

  • locked stored procedures in sql

    - by Greg
    Hi, I am not too familiar with sql server 2005. I have a schema in sql which has stored procedures with small lock on them. As I understand they were created using C#, all these locked procedures have a source file in C# with the code of the procedures. The thing is I can't access them. I need to modify one of these procedures but it doesn't let me modify them. I have the source code (from visual studio) with these procedures but when I change something in the code, it doesn't affect the procedures in the sql. How can I change the path to assembly in sql server 2005 or is there any other way I can access these stored procedures? Thanks in advance, Greg

  • What are the pros and cons to keeping SQL in Stored Procs versus Code

    - by Guy
    What are the advantages/disadvantages of keeping SQL in your C# source code or in Stored Procs? I've been discussing this with a friend on an open source project that we're working on (C# ASP.NET Forum). At the moment, most of the database access is done by building the SQL inline in C# and calling to the SQL Server DB. So I'm trying to establish which, for this particular project, would be best. So far I have: Advantages for in Code: Easier to maintain - don't need to run a SQL script to update queries Easier to port to another DB - no procs to port Advantages for Stored Procs: Performance Security

    I'm using visual studio 2008 and I've created a stored procedure that selects back two different result sets. I drag the stored proc on to a linq to sql dbml datacontext class, causing visual studio to create the following code in the cs file: [Function(Name="dbo.List_MultiSelect")] public ISingleResult<DataAccessLayer.DataEntities.List_MultiSelectResult> List_MultiSelect() { IExecuteResult result = this.ExecuteMethodCall(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod()))); return ((ISingleResult<DataAccessLayer.DataEntities.List_MultiSelectResult>)(result.ReturnValue)); } Shouldn't the designer generate the code to use IMultipleResults? Or do I have to hand code that?

    I took a look at the "Beginner's Guide to LINQ" post here on StackOverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8050/beginners-guide-to-linq), but had a follow-up question: We're about to ramp up a new project where nearly all of our database op's will be fairly simple data retrievals (there's another segment of the project which already writes the data). Most of our other projects up to this point make use of stored procedures for such things. However, I'd like to leverage LINQ-to-SQL if it makes more sense. So, the question is this: For simple data retrievals, which approach is better, LINQ-to-SQL or stored procs? Any specific pro's or con's? Thanks.
