  • SQL SERVER – Remove Debug Button in SSMS – SQL in Sixty Seconds #020 – Video

    SQL in Sixty Seconds is indeed tremendous fun to do. Every week, we try to come up with some new learning which we can share in Sixty Seconds. In this busy world, we all have sixty seconds to learn something new – no matter how much busy we are. In this episode of the series, we talk about another interesting feature of SQL Server Management Studio. In SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) we have two button side by side. 1) Execute (!) and 2) Debug (>). It is quite confusing to a few developers. The debug button which looks like a play button encourages developers to click on the same thinking it will execute the code. Also developer with a Visual Studio background often click it because of their habit. However, Debug button is not the same as Execute button. In most of the cases developers want to click on Execute to run the query but by mistake they click on Debug and it wastes their valuable time. It is very easy to fix this. If developers are not frequently using a debug feature in SQL Server they should hide it from the toolbar itself. This will reduce the chances to incorrectly click on the debug button greatly as well save lots of time for developer as invoking debug processes and turning it off takes a few extra moments. In this Sixty second video we will discuss how one can hide the debug button and avoid confusion regarding execution button. I personally use function key F5 to execute the T-SQL code so I do not face this problem that often.   • SQL SERVER – Select and Delete Duplicate Records – SQL in Sixty Seconds #036 – Video

    Developers often face situations when they find their column have duplicate records and they want to delete it. A good developer will never delete any data without observing it and making sure that what is being deleted is the absolutely fine to delete. Before deleting duplicate data, one should select it and see if the data is really duplicate. In this video we are demonstrating two scripts – 1) selects duplicate records 2) deletes duplicate records. We are assuming that the table has a unique incremental id. Additionally, we are assuming that in the case of the duplicate records we would like to keep the latest record. If there is really a business need to keep unique records, one should consider to create a unique index on the column. Unique index will prevent users entering duplicate data into the table from the beginning. This should be the best solution. However, deleting duplicate data is also a very valid request. If user realizes that they need to keep only unique records in the column and if they are willing to create unique constraint, the very first requirement of creating a unique constraint is to delete the duplicate records.     I just started using ubuntu a few months ago and recently upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04. After a few minutes of watching any video online (StumbleUpon video, YouTube and others), I get a black screen. I am unable to do anything, but reboot at this point (to my limited knowledge). So far, I've tried updating the Adobe Flash plugin via Flash Aid (Firefox Add-on), but that doesn't seem to have worked.

    Is there a simple way (on the command line - I want to write a script which compresses all videos in a folder) to reduce the filesize of a video (almost) without quality loss? Is there a method which works equally well for different video format (mp4, flv, m4v, mpg, mov, avi)? I should mention that most of the videos I would like to compress are downloaded web-videos (mp4, flv), so it's not clear if there is much room for further compression.

    I have searched for similar posts but those were mostly about erratic behaviour. My macbook shuts down instantly without warning when I play a youtube video fullscreen; sometimes after five minutes sometimes longer, never immediately. I can play the video normally for as long as I like, it does not crash, only when played fullscreen. I have tried Firefox and chromium, it crashes with both browsers. Anyone encountered the same thing or has a solution? thanks

Preferably in the editor I'm using, Kdenlive, to minimize quality loss. I've tried the Crop, Pan & Zoom and Scale0tilt effects, modifying the pixel ratio, movie size inside project settings options without success.   • PHP & IIS 6 Encoding problem

    The server is running Windows 2003 with IIS 6.0.3790.1830 x86 (iis.dll). My database server is Microsoft SQL Server 2000. My PHP version is 5.3. The original application is hosted on appserv1 and it's database is on dbserv1. It's working fine, everything is tuned up, running great. It was needed to place the same application (different modules) on another server, for other uses, so I copied the database on dbserv2, configured appserv2 to host the application, so I achieved 2 almost identical copies. Both dbserv1 and dbserv2 use the same encoding, both appserv1 and appserv2 are on IIS6 with the same PHP configurations. I also tried my best to have the same settings in the IIS. I also made sure that I pass the encoding information both in the HTTP headers and in the meta tags with http-equiv. Both applications use utf-8. The Problem is that the copy of the application doesn't display the non-ASCII characters normally in the browser, even if the browser detects correctly the UTF-8 encoding of the page. First I thought it was a database issue, given the fact that MSSQL 2000 doesn't support UTF-8, and instead it uses UCS-2, but when I redirected the application on appserv2 to work with the database on dbserv1, it had the same encoding problems. This is why I am asking in what way I can make it work. thank you for reading.

    I've found what I think may be a bug with Ivar and Objective-C runtime. I'm using XCode 3.2.1 and associated libraries, developing a 64 bit app on X86_64 (MacBook Pro). Where I would expect the type encoding for the following "longVal" to be 'l', the Ivar encoding is showing a 'q' (which is a 'long long'). Anyone else seeing this?     I have an mp3 and image and I want to make a simple clip to upload onto Youtube. Is there a fast solution? If video formats are so bad designed, then maybe it is possible to use a prerendered video-only clip? This works good except it takes as much time as the audio lasts: ffmpeg -loop_input -r ntsc -i "%IMAGE%" -i "%AUDIO%" -r 1 -acodec copy -shortest -re -force_fps "%VIDEO%" This takes a second but results in a black screen video that is successfully played by a desktop video player but not acceptable by Youtube: ffmpeg -i "%IMAGE%" -i "%AUDIO%" -acodec copy "%VIDEO%" Windows 7. Preserving audio quality is preferred over video quality.

  • Job queueing in Toast Titanium 10?

    I have a bunch of .MP4 video files I'm burning to DVD-Video using Toast Titanium 10 on my MacBook Pro. Right now, I'm doing them one at a time. Because my computer is several years old, encoding video for a single DVD takes approximately six hours. I've discovered that it appears I can encode the video directly to a .toast format — however, I have yet to figure out if I can burn these directly to DVD. Also, I have quite a bit of video left to burn, and even that method would require me intervening manually to start a new encoding or burn job every six hours. Would it be possible to somehow queue up multiple DVD-Video encoding jobs at once, and have the computer work through them automatically? The actual writing to DVD disc doesn't take nearly as long, and if I had all my video encoded for me to begin with my job would be a lot quicker. Maybe this can be accomplished with a different piece of software?

    Like a lot of people, I have a lot of DVDs. But we also have a stupid amount of disk space and a media centre (Boxee) so the DVDs are getting less and less use. It would be nice to convert our DVDs into something more relevant to our needs. I've dabbled with DVD ripping before but whereas I'd usually transcode down to a smaller picture size with a better video compression algorithm, this takes a silly amount of time. I don't have a couple of hours available for each disk. (Sidebar: is there dedicated, Linux-friendly hardware to improve h264 encoding performance?) So I was wondering if there's anything that take the DVD filesystem, De-CSS it, and then stitch together any the VOBs that make up the main part of the film and package that up in a wrapping format like MKV. A bonus would be if it could grab the subtitles and stick them in too but that's not a requirement as Boxee can grab the subtitles online if it needs to.

  • Play .ts video file on Android?

    I am pretty new at streaming video, so please bear with me. :) I am trying to port an m3u8 stream over from iPhone to Android. Looking in the m3u8 feed, I found some .ts files. From what I can tell, .ts files are, themselves, wrappers that contain the video stream (Elementary Stream). Is it possible to play a .ts file in Android? (The docs only list 3gp and mp4 as supported formats.) Is there a way to extract the Elementary Stream and just process the video feed? If that is in 3gp or mp4, I should be ok. Will Stagefright handle .ts? Is Stagefright even available? I read that there are/were some problems with it. (As a further caveat, I am not getting much help from my server guys. They are pushing for a Flash player solution, including a proprietary player. They will not provide me with a 3gp or an mp4 feed, but I'm hoping I can find that in the .ts file.) I'm open to other suggestions. Thanks for your patience with this newbie. :)

    I googled over this topic but couldn't find what I was looking for... the following "happend" to me: I had my files stored on a NTFS-USB Harddisk, because of space problems I moved them to an ext3 system....somehow the filename (content is still ok as far as I saw) encoding screwed up....my files look like the following now: Kküken <--- should have an "ü" Jäger <--- should be an "ä" Zwölf <--- should be an "ö" fünfte <-- should be an "ü" etc .... These are just examples, but already give me my first question Why has the "ü" two different representations? (Maybe I screw up, before I screw up and now I have a mixing of x different encoding-layers? :) ) I tried the following command: convmv -r -f UTF-8 -t ISO-8859-1 * This command work for some files (for example Zwölf) but not for all: iso-8859-1 doesn't cover all needed characters for: "fünfte" So Iguess it must be another encoding - but which? How can I find out this? And is there any way that I can still fix all of this?
