• No wireless after resuming from suspend?

  When I resume my computer from suspend it doesn't want to connect to any wireless connection. It looks like it is connecting, but after a while it asks me to retype a password for wireless connection. It connect after I restart it. I am using Toshiba Satellite A210 and Ubuntu 10.10 (I have the same problem with 10.04 and 11.04 beta2. 14:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • Ubuntu 12.04 on Vm Player showing Wired Network Instead of Wireless Network

  I am new to Ubuntu, recently I installed ubuntu 12.04 in Vm Player (Virtual Machine) on my Dell laptop having windows 7 ultimate 32 bit for just to check the security of my wireless network and want to crack the WiFi (WPA-PSK) password but in ubuntu it does not show the wireless network it shows the 2 arrow sign as i have not connect the ethernet cable to my laptop and connected through WiFi on my main OS (windows 7) but it shows the wired network and internet is working but it does not show wifi connection. On windows 7 WiFi is connected and showing the WiFi connection and working correctly.But my main motive is to crack the WiFi password as it can't detect WiFi network so what to do? • wireless not working, but wired does

  First of all I'm new to Ubuntu, just bought a laptop with Ubuntu yesterday. I disable wireless networking in the upper right corner, and I don't have option to enable it back. I tried a lot of things and none is seems to work: I installed Wicd network manger, and it says no wireless network found, but i assure you there are several of them as my smart tv can detect them. when I type rfkill list, I get this: 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no when I type ifconfig wlan0, I get this: wlan0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

• Manually re-enable wireless and bluetooth

  So, today, I decided to turn off bluetooth to save battery power. When I did so, it did everything like normal. Whatever. But whenever I want to re-enable Wifi and Bluetooth, it just has "Enable Wireless" and "Enable bluetooth" grayed out in the respective things on the top-right of the desktop. I am using 12.04 Precise Pangolin on a Dell laptop that has never had wireless problems before. Clicking the grayed-out part does nothing. Re-logging and restarting has no effect, and I'm on an account that has full administrative permission. My attempts: ~$ sudo dmesg | grep wlan0 [19.960211] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready . ~$ sudo dmesg | grep blue [[nothing]] What do I do to manually re-enable wireless and bluetooth?

• Router to WIFI Client to Router (New solution for distance when repeater doesnt help)

  Ethernet to TL-WR340G with WIFI enabled Using TL-WA500 tried repeater mode which was not good enough and had password problems (could not connect if using either ASCII or Normal password in one way then in repeater worked other way) and also could not forward (repeat) WPA/WPA2 security. So since this repeater can also be as client, I made it as client and used another router (TL-WR740N) to get from wire connection from that client and all was working for a little bit. Every machine is set up to be auto DHCP. 1st when setting up client mode I found it working after doing reset. Then after some tens of minutes internet stopped working. When I removed WiFi client then all went back to normal. Where is the problem and how to make this work? • Frequent and weird wifi disconnections

  How would you explain, troubleshoot (and solve) the following problem? Wifi ADSL modem router D-link 2640R installed in living room at about 1.8m height. Working fine, synchronising and getting/serving stable internet connection. First situation: -Laptop 01 in other end of the house, let's say in room01 southern to the living room, distant by about 15m. Getting stable signal of good to very good quality. No disconnection. -Laptop 02 in room02 opposite to room01 (5m West) which makes it almost at the same distance and direction from the router located 15m North. Getting stable signal of good to very good quality. No disconnection. Second situation: -Laptop 01 moved to room03 Northern to the living room (actually just 3m behind the wall where the router lies). Getting stable signal of excellent quality. No disconnection. -Laptop 02 still in room02 but now experiences frequent disconnections (actually almost impossible to get the Internet even though the signal level is still very good. Either no Internet with the wifi icon appearing connected to access point or no connection established at all which happens every 2 minutes and that means virtually no Internet at all as I can just get a timeframe of 1 minute or so to load any website or even get to the router's web based control panel. If Laptop 01 is completely shut down or its wifi adapters shut down or even still working but its wifi MAC address forbidden, then Laptop 02 has no problem at all. If Laptop 02 is moved to a nearer location to the router, in the living room for instance, then no connection problem occurs even if Laptop 01 is also connected. And also if we move back Laptop 01 to its original location (room 01), then no problem as well. I'm completely lost and don't know how to address this issue. I tried to change the Wifi channel and even tried the auto channel scan but that didn't solve it. I know that the problem is probably coming from Laptop 01 being in its new location or some sort of interference as the problem occurs only under the described condition but I have no idea how to solve it! I also scanned the neighborhood for wifi jam using InSSIDer, there are few other access points but they don't seem to affect the situation. Any ideas about the steps to follow or tools to use ?

• How to connect to internet 2 or more pcs with an usb wifi adapter

  In one pc I have an USB Wifi adapter (Realtek RTL8187L Chipset), from there a 10 meters cable to an outdoor antenna. With that I connect to a public Access Point. Now I want to be able to connect more computers to internet using that same connection that comes from the outdoor antenna, what options do I have to do this? I do have another usb wifi adapter with a small omni antenna, and a router encore ENHWI-G/A. This router can be used as a Wifi AP, but it needs a modem that works with the RJ45 connector. Is there a way I could take internet from the outdoor antenna, and create another AP indoor using that router to "repeat" that wifi that comes from the outdoor antenna? If creating this second AP is not possible, should I use some sort of local network between computers, connect my main PC with the outdoor antenna, and share the connection through the lan? (I would really prefer to have a second AP indoor so I can connect other devices like a Palm, but I am not sure how could this be possible with this router and the usb wifi adapter)

• Is it better to use a crowded 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel 1, 6, 11 or "unused" 3, 4, 8, or 9?

  I understand that 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channels overlap, and that the only non-overlapping channels in the US are 1, 6, and 11. Generally, my signal strength on channels 1, 6, and 11 are much stronger than my neighbors' on the same channel. However, several of the channels may have 4 or 5 others on that same channel. In this scenario, is it better to use 3, 4, 8, or 9? Or is it better to use the crowded channels 1, 6, and 11? As a secondary question, does it even matter that my signal strength is much higher than theirs? Related: Why use wifi channels other than 1, 6 or 11?

  My Dell XPS 15 (haswell) was working fine until I stupidly accepted recently to apply Ubuntu updates. Since then, my wifi does not work (it shows "device not managed" when clicking wifi icon in toolbar). Even USB to Ethernet adapter does not seem to work. • How do I get wireless to work on a Dell Mini 1018 with Realtek RTL 8188CE Network Adapter?

  My Dell Mini 1018 used to work fine with Ubuntu 12.04 with no problems connecting with the wireless card. Then I made the big mistake of attempting to disable WiFi by right-clicking on the wireless applet and un-checking "Enable Wireless." Since then, I cannot get wireless working again. The wireless applet reports that "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" but there is no hardware switch on this computer. Issuing a rfkill list yields the following: 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard block: yes 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes I'm in way over my head, and my computer is now useless. • How can a Cisco Aironet wireless card connect to a WPA encrypted network?

  I have a Thinkpad T40 running Ubuntu 10.10. I want to connect to wireless networks with WPA encryption; they appear in the network list, but are grayed out. The card does support WPA, since it works in Windows. In 10.10 the wireless works just fine with unprotected and WEP networks, but cannot connect to any WPA networks. The card is a Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. I've been reading a lot of forum posts trying to find a solution, but either encounter threads where no solution was found or answers longer apply (most date from 2007, since this isn't the newest of computers). • How can I add a wireless router to a wired router?

  The Setup: wired D-link (EBR-2310) router connected to my cable modem. Wireless NetGear N300 (WNR2000v3) router connected to a LAN port on the wired router. What I'm trying to do: I'm trying to setup the wireless router to be a separate network, that only accesses the internet through the wired router. What I've done so far. I setup the wireless router's WAN port to get an address from ISP (which should be coming from my wired router running DHCP), and the LAN as a subnet (192.168.1). Wired router's LAN is 192.168.0. The problem: I'm not able to connect to the internet from the wireless router. At one point my wired router showed that it was handing out an IP to the wireless router, but that is not happening anymore. The question: Is what I'm trying to do possible? Am I not thinking about this properly? Do I need to buy a better wired router, with 2 WAN ports? How can I configure these routers to work together?

The USB Ports work fine but the media card reader shows up in Devices as a USB 2.0 device with the error that it can't start. The card reader worked fine under XP Pro SP3 so I'm at a bit of a loss. • Can't get Wireless RT2x00usb driver to work, and can't blacklist it

  After a two year hiatus to Linux, I try it again out again. And then I run into to driver issues... I have an old Linksys WUSB54G v4 Wireless USB Adapter. In previous versions I had to use a combination of Ndiswrapper and Wicd to hope of getting it working. In 10.10, apparently there are built in drivers for it. Unfortunately they don't work. Fails to connect to my WPA network, fails to connect to my open unencrypted network. Wicd fails at "Obtaining IP address" or when using static IPs fails at verifying connectivity to network. Getting fed up I tried the ndiswrapper approach. Installed and configured, but still not working, even when blacklisting the rt2570 module. My driver is installed and activated, I have tried removing and re-adding the network, and various other fixes. No networks were picked up on my first boot, the next day wireless worked fine, and since then it does not detect networks, and when I manually try to connect, it repeatedly asks for the password and does not connect. The problem is that Ubuntu 12.04 only recognizes it as an Mobile Broadband USB, not as an Wireless Adapter USB, is there a way to "trick" Ubuntu to recognize my USB as a Wireless Adapter?   Mostly I use my laptop in an environment where different wireless networks are available and I would like to preferably connect to one of those and only fall back to the other one if that one is not available. Is there any way of prioritizing which wireless networks network-manager preferably connects to? The only workaround I found so far was unchecking Connect Automatically in the options and re-enabling it when my preferred network is not available.

  I installed both Ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04. I tried to install the wireless card. although I succeeded in installing the driver using ndiswrapper, it tells me that the hardware is not present. When I use lspci, it doesn't list it.
