  • WPF Datagrid set the column values only when the row is left

    - by Noam
    Hello I have a simple class. When I use it in winforms binding, whenever I change a value of a cell and leave the cell, the property immediately get changed. Using WPF Datagrid, whenever i change a value of a cell, the property gets set only after I leave the row. That is problematic for me. What am I doing wrong? Here is my code: public class MyClass : IEditableObject, INotifyPropertyChanged { string _name, _lastName; public string Name { get { return _name; } set { _name = value; _lastName = value + " xxx"; OnPropertyChanged("LastName"); MessageBox.Show("Test"); } } private void OnPropertyChanged(string p) { var x = new PropertyChangedEventArgs(p); if (PropertyChanged != null) PropertyChanged(this, x); } public string LastName { get { return _lastName; } set { _lastName = value; } } public void BeginEdit() { } public void CancelEdit() { } public void EndEdit() { } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; } public class myBindingList : BindingList<MyClass> { public myBindingList() { AllowNew = true; Add(new MyClass { Name = "noam" }); Add(new MyClass { Name = "yael" }); } }

  • WPF: Change the style of a ViewBox depending upon the amount of data

    - by Brett Rigby
    Hi there, I have a WPF app that has a ViewBox to display the items in my collection, diplaying a 2-column grid for my results. What I'd like to do is, depending on the number of items in my collection, change the number of columns. E.g if there are < 10 items in the list, then show them in just 1 column; If there are 10 items in my list, then show them in 2 columns; If there are 20 items in my list, then show 3 columns. Here's what I have at present: <Viewbox> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding myCollection}" Style="{DynamicResource myStyle}" /> </Viewbox> Here's what myStyle currently defines: <Style x:Key="myStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ItemsControl}"> <Setter Property=ItemsControl.ItemsPanel"> <Setter.Value> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <UniformGrid Columns="2" /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> How can I make this code work to the above requirement? Thanks.

  • WPF MVVM Chart change axes

    - by c0uchm0nster
    I'm new to WPF and MVVM. I'm struggling to determine the best way to change the view of a chart. That is, initially a chart might have the axes: X - ID, Y - Length, and then after the user changes the view (either via lisbox, radiobutton, etc) the chart would display the information: X - Length, Y - ID, and after a third change by the user it might display new content: X - ID, Y - Quality. My initial thought was that the best way to do this would be to change the bindings themselves. But I don't know how tell a control in XAML to bind using a Binding object in the ViewModel, or whether it's safe to change that binding in runtime? Then I thought maybe I could just have a generic Model that has members X and Y and populate them as needed in the viewmodel? My last thought was that I could have 3 different chart controls and just hide and show them as appropriate. What is the CORRECT/SUGGESTED way to do this in the MVVM pattern? Any code examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • WPF data validation is overriding theme on the interface

    - by black sensei
    Hello! Good People I built a WPF application and manage to get the validation working thanks to posts on stackoverflow.The only probblem i'm having is that it's overriding the theme i'm using. example the theme makes the textboxes look like a round rectangle but after setting the binding it look like the default textboxes. here is my code : <Button.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <Setter Property="IsEnabled" Value="false" /> <Style.Triggers> <!-- Require the controls to be valid in order to press OK --> <MultiDataTrigger> <MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Binding="{Binding ElementName=txtEmail, Path=(Validation.HasError)}" Value="false" /> </MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Setter Property="IsEnabled" Value="true" /> </MultiDataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Button.Style> code behind is : //Form loaded event code txtEmail.GetBindingExpression(TextBox.TextProperty).UpdateSource(); I've tried to look into the theme file but i was quickly lost.i thought i could use that file like a web css file.Now i've disabled the data binding because of that.Is there any work around for this? thanks for reading this

  • WPF Databinding problem

    - by costin
    Hi, I'm new to WPF and I have some difficulties when I'm trying to populate a ListView with a list of custom objects. internal class ApplicationCode { public int Code { get; set; } public IEnumerable<string> InstrumentCodes { get; set; } } I have a list of ApplicationCode which I set to ItemsSource to a ListView. I need to display the ApplicationCode.Code as a string and for the rest of the columns a check box which can be checked/unchecked depending if the column name is contained in the InstrumentCodes collection. In order to set the check box I use a converter on databinding: <DataTemplate x:Key="InstrumentCodeTemplate"> <CheckBox IsEnabled="False" IsChecked="{Binding Mode=OneTime, Converter={StaticResource InstrumentSelectionConverter}}" /> </DataTemplate> The problem I have is because I can't know which is the current column at the time of cell data binding and I can't set the ConverterParameter. public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { ApplicationCode appCode = value as ApplicationCode; return appCode != null && appCode.InstrumentCodes.Contains(parameter.ToString()); } There is a way to find out the column index or name? Or there is another way to solve this problem?

  • WPF, C# - Making Intellisense/Autocomplete list, fastest way to filter list of strings

    - by user559548
    Hello everyone, I'm writing an Intellisense/Autocomplete like the one you find in Visual Studio. It's all fine up until when the list contains probably 2000+ items. I'm using a simple LINQ statement for doing the filtering: var filterCollection = from s in listCollection where s.FilterValue.IndexOf(currentWord, StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase) >= 0 orderby s.FilterValue select s; I then assign this collection to a WPF Listbox's ItemSource, and that's the end of it, works fine. Noting that, the Listbox is also virtualised as well, so there will only be at most 7-8 visual elements in memory and in the visual tree. However the caveat right now is that, when the user types extremely fast in the richtextbox, and on every key up I execute the filtering + binding, there's this semi-race condition, or out of sync filtering, like the first key stroke's filtering could still be doing it's filtering or binding work, while the fourth key stroke is also doing the same. I know I could put in a delay before applying the filter, but I'm trying to achieve a seamless filtering much like the one in Visual Studio. I'm not sure where my problem exactly lies, so I'm also attributing it to IndexOf's string operation, or perhaps my list of string's could be optimised in some kind of index, that could speed up searching. Any suggestions of code samples are much welcomed. Thanks.

  • Using a WPF ListView as a DataGrid

    - by psheriff
    Many people like to view data in a grid format of rows and columns. WPF did not come with a data grid control that automatically creates rows and columns for you based on the object you pass it. However, the WPF Toolkit can be downloaded from CodePlex.com that does contain a DataGrid control. This DataGrid gives you the ability to pass it a DataTable or a Collection class and it will automatically figure out the columns or properties and create all the columns for you and display the data.The DataGrid control also supports editing and many other features that you might not always need. This means that the DataGrid does take a little more time to render the data. If you want to just display data (see Figure 1) in a grid format, then a ListView works quite well for this task. Of course, you will need to create the columns for the ListView, but with just a little generic code, you can create the columns on the fly just like the WPF Toolkit’s DataGrid. Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView A Simple ListView ControlThe XAML below is what you would use to create the ListView shown in Figure 1. However, the problem with using XAML is you have to pre-define the columns. You cannot re-use this ListView except for “Product” data. <ListView x:Name="lstData"          ItemsSource="{Binding}">  <ListView.View>    <GridView>      <GridViewColumn Header="Product ID"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=ProductId}" />      <GridViewColumn Header="Product Name"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=ProductName}" />      <GridViewColumn Header="Price"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=Price}" />    </GridView>  </ListView.View></ListView> So, instead of creating the GridViewColumn’s in XAML, let’s learn to create them in code to create any amount of columns in a ListView. Create GridViewColumn’s From Data TableTo display multiple columns in a ListView control you need to set its View property to a GridView collection object. You add GridViewColumn objects to the GridView collection and assign the GridView to the View property. Each GridViewColumn object needs to be bound to a column or property name of the object that the ListView will be bound to. An ADO.NET DataTable object contains a collection of columns, and these columns have a ColumnName property which you use to bind to the GridViewColumn objects. Listing 1 shows a sample of reading and XML file into a DataSet object. After reading the data a GridView object is created. You can then loop through the DataTable columns collection and create a GridViewColumn object for each column in the DataTable. Notice the DisplayMemberBinding property is set to a new Binding to the ColumnName in the DataTable. C#private void FirstSample(){  // Read the data  DataSet ds = new DataSet();  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() + @"\Xml\Product.xml");    // Create the GridView  GridView gv = new GridView();   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (DataColumn item in ds.Tables[0].Columns)  {    GridViewColumn gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.ColumnName);    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = gv;  // Display the Data  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables[0];} VB.NETPrivate Sub FirstSample()  ' Read the data  Dim ds As New DataSet()  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() & "\Xml\Product.xml")   ' Create the GridView  Dim gv As New GridView()   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As DataColumn In ds.Tables(0).Columns    Dim gvc As New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.ColumnName)    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = gv  ' Display the Data  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables(0)End SubListing 1: Loop through the DataTable columns collection to create GridViewColumn objects A Generic Method for Creating a GridViewInstead of having to write the code shown in Listing 1 for each ListView you wish to create, you can create a generic method that given any DataTable will return a GridView column collection. Listing 2 shows how you can simplify the code in Listing 1 by setting up a class called WPFListViewCommon and create a method called CreateGridViewColumns that returns your GridView. C#private void DataTableSample(){  // Read the data  DataSet ds = new DataSet();  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() + @"\Xml\Product.xml");   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View =      WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(ds.Tables[0]);  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables[0];} VB.NETPrivate Sub DataTableSample()  ' Read the data  Dim ds As New DataSet()  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() & "\Xml\Product.xml")   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = _      WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(ds.Tables(0))  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables(0)End SubListing 2: Call a generic method to create GridViewColumns. The CreateGridViewColumns MethodThe CreateGridViewColumns method will take a DataTable as a parameter and create a GridView object with a GridViewColumn object in its collection for each column in your DataTable. C#public static GridView CreateGridViewColumns(DataTable dt){  // Create the GridView  GridView gv = new GridView();  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = true;   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (DataColumn item in dt.Columns)  {    GridViewColumn gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.ColumnName);    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   return gv;} VB.NETPublic Shared Function CreateGridViewColumns _  (ByVal dt As DataTable) As GridView  ' Create the GridView  Dim gv As New GridView()  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = True   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As DataColumn In dt.Columns    Dim gvc As New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.ColumnName)    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   Return gvEnd FunctionListing 3: The CreateGridViewColumns method takes a DataTable and creates GridViewColumn objects in a GridView. By separating this method out into a class you can call this method anytime you want to create a ListView with a collection of columns from a DataTable. SummaryIn this blog you learned how to create a ListView that acts like a DataGrid. You are able to use a DataTable as both the source of the data, and for creating the columns for the ListView. In the next blog entry you will learn how to use the same technique, but for Collection classes. • Open Source WPF UML Design tool

    - by oazabir
    PlantUmlEditor is my new free open source UML designer project built using WPF and .NET 3.5. If you have used plantuml before, you know that you can quickly create sophisitcated UML diagrams without struggling with a designer. Especially those who use Visio to draw UML diagrams (God forbid!), you will be at heaven. This is a super fast way to get your diagrams up and ready for show. You can *write* UML diagrams in plain English, following a simple syntax and get diagrams generated on-the-fly. This editor really saves time designing UML diagrams. I have to produce quick diagrams to convey ideas quickly to Architects, Designers and Developers everyday. So, I use this tool to write some quick diagrams at the speed of coding, and the diagrams get generated on the fly. Instead of writing a long mail explaining some complex operation or some business process in English, I can quickly write it in the editor in almost plain English, and get a nice looking activity/sequence diagram generated instantly. Making major changes is also as easy as doing search-replace and copy-pasting blocks here and there. You don't get such agility in any conventional mouse-based UML designers. I have submited a full codeproject article to give you a detail walkthrough how I have built this. Please read this article and vote for me if you like it. • Introducing Kiddo: A Ruby DSL for building simple WPF and Silverlight applications

    - by fdumlao
    Read the original article here... As a long time Ruby lover and deep rooted .NET supporter, I was probably more psyched than anyone I knew when IronRuby 1.0 was finally released. I immediately grabbed and started building some apps with it to see where the boundaries were going to lie between IronRuby and ruby.exe, and so far I've been pleasantly surprised by how many things just work as I'd expect. I then started to try out some of my favorite libs that I was sure would not work with IronRuby, and I wasn't surprised at all when _why's amazing Shoes library didn't work. Being somewhat familiar with Shoes (it's a great DSL for building simple UIs in Ruby) I felt it wouldn't be that difficult to port it over and as it turned out, someone else had already started the work. As cool as this was, I was never quite satisfied with good 'ol shoes. While it was quite complete, it lacked simple extensibility points, and although easy, it wasn't quite "kid friendly". At the same time on the .NET side of the fence, IronRuby could easily compile XAML to create WPF and Silverlight UIs, but trying to do it declaratively in plain Ruby was no fun at all. And so, the Shoes-inspired, WPF/Silverlight GUI DSL was born. (and it lives here: http://bitbucket.org/fdumlao/kiddo/src) Introducing Kiddo Tell you what. Let's start with a quick code example first. We'll build a useful app that we can use to quickly reverse strings whenever we need it. Read the complete article here...

  • How to structure an application that combines WCF and WPF

    - by CiaranG
    I'm in the process of learning how to use WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) to allow a client/server desktop application to communicate. The application's UI will be implemented using WPF, and we will probably use SQL Server for our database. What I'm struggling with, is understanding how to structure such an application. From what I've read, there are three components of a WCF application (which in the examples I've seen have existed as separate projects): A WCF service A WCF service host A WCF service client My question then, is - should these projects solely implement the functionality of sending/receiving data from the client/server? Would it make better sense this way? Would it make sense to create a separate WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) project to implement the UI for the application? And so, when I need to send/receive data from the client/server, I could simply invoke the operations provided in the WCF projects that I have created? For anyone who has built similar applications previously, perhaps you could explain what worked best for you in terms of structuring your application? For example, if I create a user registration page. When the user clicks the 'Register' button, the client application will need to send the data to the server. In this case, could I just invoke the methods provided in the WCF projects to send the data? Also, what data structures worked best for you when sending/receiving data? My initial thought is sending/receiving XML containing the data. Is this an option that is easy to implement? I realise that answers to this question may well be a matter of opinion - unless there are specific best practices that I'm not aware of. Thank you

  • WPF ToggleButton changing image depending on state

    - by mack369
    I would like to use ToggleButton in following way: There are 5 different images and each of them should be displayed depending on current state: button disabled button enabled, unchecked button enabled, unchecked, pointed by mouse cursor button enabled, checked button enabled, checked, pointed by mouse cursor I've found a simple example with two images on http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/28c36bd2-2ef7-4232-9976-2a0967140e32 , but how to change the image depending on "checked" property? The second question: how can I avoid creating different styles for each button in my application? I'm using about 20 different buttons and each of them has different set of icons. So far I'm using only one icon, below my code. Is it possible to have common code (style and template) and to define the source of images in section where I want to create button (like in section 3 of my code)? <ControlTemplate x:Key="ToggleButtonTemplate" TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}"> <Grid> <Border x:Name="ContentBorder" CornerRadius="4" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="1" Background="{DynamicResource ButtonOff}"> <ContentPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" Margin="{TemplateBinding Padding}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}" RecognizesAccessKey="True"/> </Border> </Grid> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="true"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonOn}"/> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsChecked" Value="true"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonOn}"/> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="false"> <Setter TargetName="ContentBorder" Property="Background" Value="{DynamicResource ButtonDisabled}"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource BorderDisabled}"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> <Style x:Key="ToggleButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="64" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="64" /> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Center"/> <Setter Property="Template" Value="{DynamicResource ToggleButtonTemplate}" /> </Style> <ToggleButton IsChecked="{Binding Path=IsLectorModeEnabled}" Command="{Binding CmdLector}" Style="{DynamicResource ToggleButtonStyle}"> <Image Source="{DynamicResource LectorImage}" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Stretch="None" /> </ToggleButton>

  • WPF Dynamic Layout with ItemsControl and Grid

    - by Jason Williams
    I am creating a WPF form. One of the requirements is that it have a sector-based layout so that a control can be explicitly placed in one of the sectors/cells. I have created a tic-tac-toe example below to convey my problem: There are two types and one base type: public class XMoveViewModel : MoveViewModel { } public class OMoveViewModel : MoveViewModel { } public class MoveViewModel { public int Row { get; set; } public int Column { get; set; } } The DataContext of the form is set to an instance of: public class MainViewModel : ViewModelBase { public MainViewModel() { Moves = new ObservableCollection<MoveViewModel>() { new XMoveViewModel() { Row = 0, Column = 0 }, new OMoveViewModel() { Row = 1, Column = 0 }, new XMoveViewModel() { Row = 1, Column = 1 }, new OMoveViewModel() { Row = 0, Column = 2 }, new XMoveViewModel() { Row = 2, Column = 2} }; } public ObservableCollection<MoveViewModel> Moves { get; set; } } And finally, the XAML looks like this: <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:XMoveViewModel}"> <Image Source="XMove.png" Grid.Row="{Binding Path=Row}" Grid.Column="{Binding Path=Column}" Stretch="None" /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:OMoveViewModel}"> <Image Source="OMove.png" Grid.Row="{Binding Path=Row}" Grid.Column="{Binding Path=Column}" Stretch="None" /> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Moves}"> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <Grid ShowGridLines="True"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition /> <ColumnDefinition /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> </Grid> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ItemsControl> </Grid> What was not so obvious to me when I started was that the ItemsControl element actually wraps each item in a container, so my Grid.Row and Grid.Column bindings are ignored since the images are not directly contained within the grid. Thus, all of the images are placed in the default Row and Column (0, 0). What is happening: The desired result: So, my question is this: how can I achieve the dynamic placement of my controls in a grid? I would prefer a XAML/Data Binding/MVVM-friendly solution. Thanks.

  • WPF Formatting Issues - Automatically stretching and resizing?

    - by Adam S
    I'm very new to WPF and XAML. I am trying to design a basic data entry form. I have used a stack panel holding four more stack panels to get the layout I want. Perhaps a grid would be better for this, I am not sure. Here is an image of my form in action: http://yfrog.com/7gscreenshot1impp And here is the XAML code that generates it: <Window x:Class="Test1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="224" Width="536.762"> <StackPanel Height="Auto" Name="stackPanel1" Width="Auto" Orientation="Horizontal"> <StackPanel Height="Auto" Name="stackPanel2" Width="Auto"> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label1" Width="Auto">Patient Name:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label2" Width="Auto">Physician:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label3" Width="Auto">Insurance:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label4" Width="Auto">Therapy Goals:</Label> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Height="Auto" Name="stackPanel3" Width="Auto"> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox1" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox2" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox3" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox4" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Height="Auto" Name="stackPanel4" Width="Auto"> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label5" Width="Auto">Date:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label6" Width="Auto">Patient Phone:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label7" Width="Auto">Facility:</Label> <Label Height="Auto" Name="label8" Width="Auto">Referring Physician:</Label> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Height="Auto" Name="stackPanel5" Width="Auto"> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox5" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox6" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox7" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> <TextBox Height="Auto" Name="textBox8" Width="Auto" Padding="3" Margin="1" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </Window> What I really want is for the text boxes to stretch equally to fill up the space horizontally. I would also like for the controls in each vertical stackpanel to 'spread out' evenly as the window is resized vertically. Can any of you experts out there help me out?

  • How to bind a WPF CustomControl to a ListBox

    - by VivyG
    I've just started to learn WPF this week so please accept my apologies if I am being stupid or missing fundamental points! Iam trying to build a very simple Contact browser. I have a Collection of Contact objects that displayed in a ListBox control which shows the FullName of the Contact and to the right I have a customControl called BasicContactCard. This is the XAML for the ContacWindow that displays the ListBox: <DockPanel Width="auto" Height="auto" Margin="8 8 8 8"> <Border Height="56" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Top" BorderThickness="1" CornerRadius="8" DockPanel.Dock="Top" Background="Beige"> <TextBox Height="32" Margin="23,5,135,5" Text="Search for contact here" FontStyle="Italic" Foreground="#FFAD9595" FontSize="14" BorderBrush="LightGray"/> </Border> <ListBox x:Name="contactList" DockPanel.Dock="Left" Width="192" Height="auto" Margin="5 4 0 8" /> <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="0.125*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <local:BasicContactCard Margin="8 8 8 8" /> <Button Grid.Row="1" x:Name="exit" Content="Exit" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Width="50" Height="25" Click="exit_Click" /> </Grid> </DockPanel> and this is the XAML for the CustomControl: <DockPanel Width="auto " Height="auto" Margin="8,8,8,8"> <Grid Width="auto" Height="auto" DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock x:Name="companyField" Grid.Row="0" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Company"/> <TextBlock x:Name="contactField" Grid.Row="1" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Contact"/> <TextBlock x:Name="phoneField" Grid.Row="2" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Phone"/> <TextBlock x:Name="emailField" Grid.Row="3" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="email"/> </Grid> </DockPanel> The problem I have is how do I bind the individual elements of the CustomControl to the object behind the SelectedItem in the ListBox?

  • WPF 4 Datagrid with ComboBox

    - by Doug
    I have a WPF 4 app with a ComboBox embedded in a DataGrid. The ComboBox is in a template column that displays the combobox when in edit mode but just a TextBlock otherwise. If I edit the cell and pick a new value from the combobox, when leaving the cell, the TextBlock in view mode does not reflect the new value. Ultimately, the new value gets saved and is displayed when the window is refreshed but it does not happen while still editing in the grid. Here are the parts that are making this more complicated. The grid and the combobox are bound to different ItemsSource from the EnityFramework which is tied to my database. For this problem, the grid is displaying project members. The project member name can be picked from the combobox which gives a list of all company employees. Any ideas on how to tie the view mode of the DataGridColumnTemplate to the edit value when they are pointing to different DataSources? Relevant XAML <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="EmployeeODP" /> </Window.Resources> <StackPanel> <DataGrid Name="teamProjectGrid" AutoGenerateColumns="false" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=ProjectMembers}" <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTemplateColumn Header="Name" x:Name="colProjectMember"> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ProjectMemberFullName}" /> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellEditingTemplate> <DataTemplate> <ComboBox x:Name="ProjectMemberCombo" IsReadOnly="True" DisplayMemberPath="FullName" SelectedValue="{Binding Path=Employee}" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource EmployeeODP}}" /> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellEditingTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTextColumn x:Name="colProjectRole" Binding="{Binding Path=ProjectRole}" Header="Role" /> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </StackPanel> Relevant Code Behind this.DataContext = new MyEntityLibrary.MyProjectEntities(); ObjectDataProvider EmployeeODP= (ObjectDataProvider)FindResource("EmployeeODP"); if (EmployeeODP != null) { EmployeeODP.ObjectInstance = this.DataContext.Employees; }

Using IDataErrorInfo i could successfully bind the field to a class property and with the help of styles display meaningful information about the error to users.About the submit button i use the MultiDataTrigger with conditions (Based on a post here on stackoverflow).All went well. Now i need to do the same for the passwordbox and apparently it's not as straight forward.I found on wpftutorial an article and gave it a try but for some reason it wasn't working. i've tried another one from functionalfun. And in this Functionalfun case the properties(databind,databound) are not recognized as dependencyproperty even after i've changed their name as suggested somewhere in the comments plus i don't have an idea whether it will work for a windows application, since it's designed for web. to give you an idea here is some code on textboxes <Window.Resources> <data:General x:Key="recharge" /> <Style x:Key="validButton" TargetType="{x:Type Button}" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type Button}}" > <Setter Property="IsEnabled" Value="False"/> <Style.Triggers> <MultiDataTrigger> <MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Binding="{Binding ElementName=txtRecharge, Path=(Validation.HasError)}" Value="false" /> </MultiDataTrigger.Conditions> <Setter Property="IsEnabled" Value="True" /> </MultiDataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> <Style x:Key="txtboxerrors" TargetType="{x:Type TextBox}" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type TextBox}}"> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="Validation.HasError" Value="true"> <Setter Property="ToolTip" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=(Validation.Errors)[0].ErrorContent}"/> <Setter Property="Validation.ErrorTemplate"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <DockPanel LastChildFill="True"> <TextBlock DockPanel.Dock="Bottom" FontSize="8" FontWeight="ExtraBold" Foreground="red" Padding="5 0 0 0" Text="{Binding ElementName=showerror, Path=AdornedElement.(Validation.Errors)[0].ErrorContent}"></TextBlock> <Border BorderBrush="Red" BorderThickness="2"> <AdornedElementPlaceholder Name="showerror" /> </Border> </DockPanel> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Window.Resources> <TextBox Margin="12,69,12,70" Name="txtRecharge" Style="{StaticResource txtboxerrors}"> <TextBox.Text> <Binding Path="Field" Source="{StaticResource recharge}" ValidatesOnDataErrors="True" UpdateSourceTrigger="PropertyChanged"> <Binding.ValidationRules> <ExceptionValidationRule /> </Binding.ValidationRules> </Binding> </TextBox.Text> </TextBox> <Button Height="23" Margin="98,0,0,12" Name="btnRecharge" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Click="btnRecharge_Click" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="75" Style="{StaticResource validButton}">Recharge</Button> some C# : class General : IDataErrorInfo { private string _field; public string this[string columnName] { get { string result = null; if(columnName == "Field") { if(Util.NullOrEmtpyCheck(this._field)) { result = "Field cannot be Empty"; } } return result; } } public string Error { get { return null; } } public string Field { get { return _field; } set { _field = value; } } } So what are suggestion you guys have for me? I mean how would you go about this? how do you do this since the databinding first purpose here is not to load data onto the fields they are just (for now) for data validation. thanks for reading this.

  • WPF Templates error - "Provide value on 'System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension' threw

    - by jasonk
    I've just started experimenting with WPF templates vs. styles and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The goal below is to alternate the colors of the options in the menu. The code works fine with just the , but when I copy and paste/rename it for the second segment of "MenuChoiceOdd" I get the following error: Provide value on 'System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension' threw an exception. Sample of the code: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Template_Testing" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Template_Testing" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <Grid.Resources> <ControlTemplate x:Key="MenuChoiceEven"> <Border BorderThickness="1" BorderBrush="#FF4A5D80"> <TextBlock Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0" Width="Auto" FontSize="14" Foreground="SlateGray" TextAlignment="Left" AllowDrop="True" Text="{Binding Path=Content, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}"> <TextBlock.Background> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0.5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0"> <GradientStop Color="White" Offset="0" /> <GradientStop Color="#FFC2CCDB" Offset="1" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </TextBlock.Background> </TextBlock> </Border> </ControlTemplate> <ControlTemplate x:Key="MenuChoiceOdd"> <Border BorderThickness="1" BorderBrush="#FF4A5D80"> <TextBlock Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="0" Width="Auto" FontSize="14" Foreground="SlateGray" TextAlignment="Left" AllowDrop="True" Text="{Binding Path=Content, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}"> <TextBlock.Background> <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0.5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0"> <GradientStop Color="White" Offset="0" /> <GradientStop Color="##FFCBCBCB" Offset="1" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </TextBlock.Background> </TextBlock> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Grid.Resources> <Border BorderBrush="SlateGray" BorderThickness="2" Margin="10" CornerRadius="10" Background="LightSteelBlue" Width="200"> <StackPanel Margin="4"> <TextBlock Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="2,2,2,0" Name="MenuHeaderTextBlock" Text="TextBlock" Width="Auto" FontSize="16" Foreground="PaleGoldenrod" TextAlignment="Left" Padding="10" FontWeight="Bold"><TextBlock.Background><LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="0.5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0"><GradientStop Color="LightSlateGray" Offset="0" /><GradientStop Color="DarkSlateGray" Offset="1" /></LinearGradientBrush></TextBlock.Background></TextBlock> <StackPanel Height="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="2,0,2,0" Name="MenuChoicesStackPanel" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="Auto"> <Button Template="{StaticResource MenuChoiceEven}" Content="Test Even menu element" /> <Button Template="{StaticResource MenuChoiceOdd}" Content="Test odd menu element" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </Border> </Grid> </Window> What am I doing wrong?

I am using Storyboard and Double animation.The image display is very smooth with WPF Triggers but not with Storyboard. • Modelling photo-realistic grass in realtime

    - by sebf
    Hello, I see a number of tutorials on how to create good looking grasses when creating 3D renders but can't think how to model it for realtime/use in a game's scenery. Sure simple models with alpha cutouts can be used to create plants and trees in really awesome scenery but what about a lawn? Are there any good tricks to achieve this effect? I tried with a simple 4 sided box and a small texture and the number of objects needed for a decent appearance made Max crawl to a halt. (I am thinking it may be possible with a shader but that is a whole other area so thought I would just ask about anyones experience with modelling it here) Thanks!

  • How to parametrize WPF Style?

    - by Konstantin
    Hi! I'm looking for a simplest way to remove duplication in my WPF code. Code below is a simple traffic light with 3 lights - Red, Amber, Green. It is bound to a ViewModel that has one enum property State taking one of those 3 values. Code declaring 3 ellipses is very duplicative. Now I want to add animation so that each light fades in and out - styles will become even bigger and duplication will worsen. Is it possible to parametrize style with State and Color arguments so that I can have a single style in resources describing behavior of a light and then use it 3 times - for 'Red', 'Amber' and 'Green' lights? <UserControl.Resources> <l:TrafficLightViewModel x:Key="ViewModel" /> </UserControl.Resources> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" DataContext="{StaticResource ViewModel}"> <StackPanel.Resources> <Style x:Key="singleLightStyle" TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}"> <Setter Property="StrokeThickness" Value="2" /> <Setter Property="Stroke" Value="Black" /> <Setter Property="Height" Value="{Binding Width, RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}}" /> <Setter Property="Width" Value="60" /> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="LightGray" /> </Style> </StackPanel.Resources> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Red"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Amber"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Red" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> <Ellipse> <Ellipse.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Ellipse}" BasedOn="{StaticResource singleLightStyle}"> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding State}" Value="Green"> <Setter Property="Fill" Value="Green" /> </DataTrigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </Ellipse.Style> </Ellipse> </StackPanel>

  • Binding WPF menu items to WPF Tab Control Items collection

    - by William
    I have a WPF Menu and a Tab control. I would like the list of menu items to be generated from the collection of TabItems on my tab control. I am binding my tab control to a collection to generate the TabItems. I have a TabItem style that uses a ContentPresenter to display the TabItem text in a TextBlock. When I bind the tab items to my menu the menu items are blank. I assume the menu items are looking for the Header property of the TabItems which I am not using. Is there a workaround for my scenario? Is it possible to bind to the Header property of the tab item, when I do not know the number of tabs in advance? Below is a copy of my xaml declarations. Tab Control and items: <DataTemplate x:Key="ClosableTabItemTemplate"> <DockPanel HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <Button Command="{Binding Path=CloseWorkSpaceCommand}" Content="X" Cursor="Hand" DockPanel.Dock="Right" Focusable="False" FontFamily="Courier" FontSize="9" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="10,1,0,0" Padding="0" VerticalContentAlignment="Bottom" Width="16" Height="16" Background="Red" /> <ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="Center" Content="{Binding Path=DisplayName}"> <ContentPresenter.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TextBlock}"/> </ContentPresenter.Resources> </ContentPresenter> </DockPanel> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="WorkspacesTemplate"> <TabControl IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource ClosableTabItemTemplate}" Margin="10" Background="#4C4C4C"/> </DataTemplate> My Menu <Menu Background="Transparent"> <MenuItem Style="{StaticResource TabMenuButtonStyle}" ItemsSource="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type TabControl}}, Path=Items}" ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource TabMenuItem}"> </MenuItem> </Menu>

  • Generating Anaglyphs (3D images)

    - by Rich Bradshaw
    I'm planning to make some simple 3d shapes into anaglyphs that will be in 3d when viewed with 3d glasses (red cyan). there's lots of info for converting pictures into 3d, but none for spinning 3d shapes. Has anyone got any experience/ideas in how to do this?

  • How to test a localized WPF application in visual studio 2012

    - by Michel Keijzers
    I am trying to create a localized application in C# / WPF in Visual Studio 2012. For that I created two resource files and changed one string in a (XAML) window to use the resource files (instead of a hardcoded string). I see the English text from the resource file, which is correct. However, I want to check if the other resource file (fr-FR) also works but I cannot find a setting or procedure how to change my 'project' to run in French. Thanks in advance.

  • Is MVVM in WPF outdated?

    - by Benjol
    I'm currently trying to get my head round MVVM for WPF - I don't mean get my head round the concept, but around the actual nuts and bolts of doing anything that is further off the beaten track than dumb CRUD. What I've noticed is that lots of the frameworks, and most/all blog posts are from 'ages' ago. Is this because it is now old hat and the bloggers have moved onto the Next Big Thing, or just because they've said everything there is to say? In other words, is there something I'm missing here?

  • DoubleAnimation in ScaleTransform

    - by Adam S
    I'm trying, as an exhibition, to use a DoubleAnimation on the ScaleX and ScaleY properties of a ScaleTransform. I have a rectangle (144x144) which I want to make rectangular over five seconds. My XAML: <Window x:Class="ScaleTransformTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" Loaded="Window_Loaded"> <Grid> <Rectangle Name="rect1" Width="144" Height="144" Fill="Aqua"> <Rectangle.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="1" /> </Rectangle.RenderTransform> </Rectangle> </Grid> </Window> My C#: private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ScaleTransform scaly = new ScaleTransform(1, 1); rect1.RenderTransform = scaly; Duration mytime = new Duration(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5)); Storyboard sb = new Storyboard(); DoubleAnimation danim1 = new DoubleAnimation(1, 1.5, mytime); DoubleAnimation danim2 = new DoubleAnimation(1, 0.5, mytime); sb.Children.Add(danim1); sb.Children.Add(danim2); Storyboard.SetTarget(danim1, scaly); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(danim1, new PropertyPath(ScaleTransform.ScaleXProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(danim2, scaly); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(danim2, new PropertyPath(ScaleTransform.ScaleYProperty)); sb.Begin(); } Unfortunately, when I run this program, it does nothing. The rectangle stays at 144x144. If I do away with the animation, and just ScaleTransform scaly = new ScaleTransform(1.5, 0.5); rect1.RenderTransform = scaly; it will elongate it instantly, no problem. There is a problem elsewhere. Any suggestions? I have read the discussion at http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29220878/how-to-animate-tofrom-an.aspx in which someone seems to have gotten a pure-XAML version working, but the code is not shown there. EDIT: At http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2131797/applying-animated-scaletransform-in-code-problem it seems someone had a very similar problem, I am fine with using his method that worked, but what the heck is that string thePath = "(0).(1)[0].(2)"; all about? What are those numbers representing?
