  • In 2011 is it truly necessary to still degrade js?

    - by 0plus1
Serious question. I tried most of the famous websites (including facebook) and I can say that tons of functionality doesn't degrade at all with js disabled. I've been always told that js should degrade gracefully, but does this still applies in these day and age? ie6 support is being dropped by several sites, and most of the web2.0 relies heavily on js (especially ajax, I even found some sites that doesn't let you login without js enabled). What are your thought about it?

  • How can I securely check if a username is already taken?

    - by Geo
I have a form where someone can create a new user. I'd like to add some AJAX to check if a username is taken, as soon as the input field loses focus. I'm not really sure how to go about this, as this could pave the way to bruteforce attack, since you could check for any username and see whether or not it exists. Any suggestions?

  • Calling a function when a scrollbar appears in an IFrame

    - by chris
I got an IFrame, in the onload event i set the height of the frame: function resizeFrame() { $("#iframeID").height($("#iframeID").contents().find("body").outerHeight(true)); } Problem is: When the content of the frame is increasing without a postback (javascript or Async Postback with Ajax), a scrollbar appears. I found a solution for Firefox: document.getElementById("iframeID").contentWindow.addEventListener("overflow", resizeFrame, false); But i can't find a solution for IE 7+8 Anyone got an idea?

    - by SaltLake
I'd like to send data to browser from server (website). For example on SO you receive notifications about new answers when answering a question. Should I every n seconds send ajax queries to server, or there are better ways of doing this? Is it possible to push data from server to browser?

  • Can I delay window.open()?

    - by Jisaak
So here is my basic problem. The user clicks the save button. Use Ajax to save the content via code-behind. THEN open a new window that loads the content from the DB. I just need a way to not open the window until the content has been saved. Right now it immediately opens a new window and the content isn't all saved yet. Any ideas?

  • Loading scripts using jQuery

    - by Nimbuz
$.ajax({ url: "plugin.js", dataType: 'script', cache: true, success: function() { alert('loaded'); }}); 1) I can't get the script to load, probably due to incorrect path, but how do I determine the correct path? The above code is in init.js, plugin.js is also in the same folder. 2) Can I load multiple plugins at once with the same request? eg. plugin.js, anotherplugin.js? Thanks for your help

  • Using a large list of terms, search through page text and replace words with links

    - by dunc
A while ago I posted this question asking if it's possible to convert text to HTML links if they match a list of terms from my database. I have a fairly huge list of terms - around 6000. The accepted answer on that question was superb, but having never used XPath, I was at a loss when problems started occurring. At one point, after fiddling with code, I somehow managed to add over 40,000 random characters to our database - the majority of which required manual removal. Since then I've lost faith in that idea and the more simple PHP solutions simply weren't efficient enough to deal with the amount of data and the quantity of terms. My next attempt at a solution is to write a JS script which, once the page has loaded, retrieves the terms and matches them against the text on a page. This answer has an idea which I'd like to attempt. I would use AJAX to retrieve the terms from the database, to build an object such as this: var words = [ { word: 'Something', link: 'http://www.something.com' }, { word: 'Something Else', link: 'http://www.something.com/else' } ]; When the object has been built, I'd use this kind of code: //for each array element $.each(words, function() { //store it ("this" is gonna become the dom element in the next function) var search = this; $('.message').each( function() { //if it's exactly the same if ($(this).text() === search.word) { //do your magic tricks $(this).html('<a href="' + search.link + '">' + search.link + '</a>'); } } ); } ); Now, at first sight, there is a major issue here: with 6,000 terms, will this code be in any way efficient enough to do what I'm trying to do?. One option would possibly be to perform some of the overhead within the PHP script that the AJAX communicates with. For instance, I could send the ID of the post and then the PHP script could use SQL statements to retrieve all of the information from the post and match it against all 6,000 terms.. then the return call to the JavaScript could simply be the matching terms, which would significantly reduce the number of matches the above jQuery would make (around 50 at most). I have no problem with the script taking a few seconds to "load" on the user's browser, as long as it isn't impacting their CPU usage or anything like that. So, two questions in one: Can I make this work? What steps can I take to make it as efficient as possible? Thanks in advance,

  • Set required attribute of two h:selectManyCheckbox

    - by BRabbit27
    I have two h:selectManyCheckBox with the required attribute set to true. What I want is that the required attribute of both of the components work together. Only display the error message if and only if both of the selected items list are empty. Right now my problem is that the message displays if either one of them is empty. Here's my code: <rich:panel> <f:facet name="header"> <h:outputText value="Actualización de catálogos"/> </f:facet> <h:panelGrid columns="4"> <h:outputLabel for="actualizarCatalogoPEC" value="Actualizar catálogos PEC"/> <h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="actualizarCatalogoPEC" value="#{administrationBean.actualizaTodosPecChecked}"> <f:ajax event="click" render="todosCatalogosPEC"/> </h:selectBooleanCheckbox> <h:outputLabel for="actualizarCatalogoSAGARPA" value="Actualizar catálogos SAGARPA"/> <h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="actualizarCatalogoSAGARPA" value="#{administrationBean.actualizaTodosSagarpaChecked}"> <f:ajax event="click" render="todosCatalogosSAGARPA"/> </h:selectBooleanCheckbox> <a4j:outputPanel id="todosCatalogosPEC"> <h:selectManyCheckbox id="selectCatalogosPEC" disabled="#{administrationBean.actualizaTodosPecChecked}" required="true" value="#{administrationBean.catalogosPecSeleccionados}" requiredMessage="Seleccione al menos un catálogo" layout="pageDirection"> <f:selectItems value="#{administrationBean.catalogosPecOptions}"/> </h:selectManyCheckbox> </a4j:outputPanel> <h:panelGroup/> <a4j:outputPanel id="todosCatalogosSAGARPA"> <h:selectManyCheckbox id="selectCatalogosSAGARPA" disabled="#{administrationBean.actualizaTodosSagarpaChecked}" required="true" value="#{administrationBean.catalogosSagarpaSeleccionados}" requiredMessage="Seleccione al menos un catálogo" layout="pageDirection" > <f:selectItems value="#{administrationBean.catalogosSagarpaOptions}"/> </h:selectManyCheckbox> </a4j:outputPanel> <h:panelGroup/> <rich:message id="messageCatalogosPEC" for="selectCatalogosPEC"/> <h:panelGroup/> <rich:message id="messageCatalogosSAGARPA" for="selectCatalogosSAGARPA"/> <h:panelGroup/> <a4j:commandButton value="Actualizar catálogos" render="messageCatalogosPEC" action="#{administrationBean.doActualizaCatalogos}"/> </h:panelGrid> </rich:panel> Cheers

  • Can't get jQuery to get focus on cloned input fields

    - by Rebel1Moon
I have a page that needs to create dynamic form fields as often as the user needs, and I am trying to use Ajax to tie it in to my database for faster form entry and to prevent user typos. So, I have put my Ajax returned data into popup div, the user selects, then the form field is filled in. The problem comes on the cloned fields. They don't seem to want to bring up the popup div when focused. I am thinking it is something to do with when they get created/added to the DOM. Here is my JS that creates the clones: $(document).ready(function() { var regex = /^(.*)(\d)+$/i; var cloneIndex = $(".clonedInput").length; $("button.clone").live("click", function(){ $(this).parents(".clonedInput").clone() .appendTo("#course_container") .attr("id", "clonedInput" + cloneIndex) .find("*").each(function() { var id = this.id || ""; var match = id.match(regex) || []; if (match.length == 3) { this.id = match[1] + (cloneIndex); } }); cloneIndex++; numClones=cloneIndex-1; //alert("numClones "+numClones); }); Here is where I expect to be able to get focus on the correct cloned field and call the popup. The baker_equiv0 id is original code, whereas baker_equiv1 is the first clone. $('#baker_equiv0').focus(function() { \\ THIS CODE WORKS $('.popup').fadeIn(500); $('#results').empty(); // document.enter_data.baker_equiv1.value="test"; THIS LINE WORKS //alert("numClones "+numClones); }); $('#baker_equiv1').focus(function() { // THIS DOESN'T EVER FIRE alert("numClones "+numClones); $('.popup').fadeIn(500); $('#results').empty(); }); Here is the HTML with the form: <label for="baker_equiv" class="">Baker Equivalent: <span class="requiredField">*</span></label> <input type="text" class="cinputsa" name="baker_equiv[]" id="baker_equiv0" size="8" ONKEYUP="get_equiv(this.value);"> If I put this in the HTML code above, it works fine: onfocus="alert(this.id)" I'd also be interested in how to adjust the JS code to work based on the id array created rather than having to copy code for each potential set of fields clones, i.e., baker_equiv[] rather than baker_equiv0, baker_equiv1, etc. Thanks all!

  • Hot to implement grails server-side-triggered dialog, or how to break out of update region after AJA

    - by werner5471
In grails, I use the mechanism below in order to implement what I'd call a conditional server-side-triggered dialog: When a form is submitted, data must first be processed by a controller. Based on the outcome, there must either be a) a modal Yes/No confirmation in front of the "old" screen or b) a redirect to a new controller/view replacing the "old" screen (no confirmation required). So here's my current approach: In the originating view, I have a <g:formRemote name="requestForm" url="[controller:'test', action:'testRequest']", update:"dummyRegion"> and a <span id="dummyRegion"> which is hidden by CSS When submitting the form, the test controller checks if a confirmation is necessary and if so, renders a template with a yui-based dialog including Yes No buttons in front of the old screen (which works fine because the dialog "comes from" the dummyRegion, not overwriting the page). When Yes is pressed, the right other controller & action is called and the old screen is replaced, if No is pressed, the dialog is cancelled and the "old" screen is shown again without the dialog. Works well until here. When submitting the form and test controller sees that NO confirmation is necessary, I would usually directly redirect to the right other controller & action. But the problem is that the corresponding view of that controller does not appear because it is rendered in the invisble dummyRegion as well. So I currently use a GSP template including a javascript redirect which I render instead. However a javascript redirect is often not allowed by the browser and I think it's not a clean solution. So (finally ;-) my question is: How do I get a controller redirect to cause the corresponding view to "break out" of my AJAX dummyRegion, replacing the whole screen again? Or: Do you have a better approach for what I have in mind? But please note that I cannot check on the client side whether the confirmation is necessary, there needs to be a server call! Also I'd like to avoid that the whole page has to be refreshed just for the confirmation dialog to pop up (which would also be possible without AJAX). Thanks for any hints!

  • How to navigate around a '[' in JSON.

    - by Kyle
I'm new to JSON and moving around in it in jQuery. I'm fine until I hit a '[', as in: "gd$when": [{ "startTime": "2006-11-15", "endTime": "2006-11-17", "gd$reminder": [{"minutes": "10"}] }], I tried to do a eventTime = event["gd$when"]["startTime"]; to get to the 'startTime' (Yes, event is the variable for ajax stuff, it's all working fine until I hit the '[') Thanks for any help.

  • Best approach to developing a cross-browser javascript widget that populates from a MySQL database?

    - by MindSculpt
I'm currently researching the best way to approach building a javascript widget someone can embed on their site, which would retrieve and display information from an external MySQL database. The gist of the widget would mimic the needs/functionality of Twitter's widget (http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets), where it uses some combination of JS, PHP and/or AJAX and retrieves information from a MySQL DB with secure (or at least somewhat safe) cross-browser access. Thoughts or ideas on the best and most reliable way to approach something like this?
