  Hi We're using the castle scheduler component: http://using.castleproject.org/display/Comp/Castle.Components.Scheduler?showChildren=false I have a wcf service which creates the tasks and that does it's job fine. I then have a console app running (will be a windows service eventually) which should then keep an eye out for tasks to run. Thing is the each create their own scheduler in the DB but they both have the same clusterid. Should the console app be able to run the tasks created by the wcf service? If not - how can i make it do that? Cheers w://

• Static Access To Multiple Instance Variable

  I have a singleton instance that is referenced throughout the project which works like a charm. It saves me the trouble from having to pass around an instance of the object to every little class in the project. However, now I need to manage multiple instances of the previous setup, which means that the singleton pattern breaks since each instance would need it's own singleton instance. What options are there to still maintain static access to the singleton? To be more specific, we have our game engine and several components and plugins reference the engine through a static property. Now our server needs to host multiple game instances each having their own engine, which means that on the server side the singleton pattern breaks. I'm trying to avoid all the classes having the engine in the constructor.

• .Net with single .exe without .NET Framework installation

  I wrote my simple desktop program in C#. I am reluctant to distribute it on the internet because i am not sure if users will go through pain of installing the .Net Framework. My target users are non-tech savvy users. I am very familiar with MFC and I probably can write this program in MFC in a month. MFC is nice because I don't have to worry about distributing other components. It will be one nice single executable. So my real question is this: Is it possible to write .Net app without worrying about distributing .Net Framework? • Abstract Forms using WinForms

  I’m trying to achieve a similar affect in a WinForms application as a master form does with ASP.NET. My initial thoughts on this were to create a base form and declare it as abstract, but the compiler doesn’t seem to let me do this. public abstract partial class Master : Form { public Master() { InitializeComponent(); } } So I have two questions: Why will the compiler not let me do this? Am I using the wrong syntax or is this a genuine restriction. Can anyone suggest a workaround or better way to do this?   We do have many frameworks available in Java. Struts, Swing, JSF 2.0, Spring etc are used as per their priority. Actually, I don't know how many they are as well! But, as I am fresher to Java, even learning after their architecture, I cannot decide which framework can be used with what type of Projects ! Also, I am confused with mixed use of framework like Spring + JSF. What is the benefit to it ? Another thing making me confusing is about the UI components available in market. Like, we do have Primefaces, Ice-faces, MyFaces, Rich-faces. They may or may not have been supporting AJAX in-built. They may contains some bugs as well. What is best choice for Framework + UI component that can directly provide a best feet solution for any project ?

  Hi! Does anybody know Swing related GUI guidelines - specifically on how to design Swing apps and which components I should use? I'm not looking for an official standard, but pragmatic tips I can use to set a good standard for my projects. I haven't used too much of Swing by myself. Surely clicking a GUI with a GUI designer isn't a big deal. However I'd like to get some insights from people who have experience with Swing and know what to avoid. Swing lately (in Java 6- 10) got decent changes. So there isn't too much specific standardization out there currently.

  A question that seems to have quite a few options for Python, but none for Java after googling for two days. Really really could use some help all I have found so far is a recommendation to use gaeVFS to build an excel file from the xml components and then zip it all together which sounds like a slap in the face. Oh yes and if you were wondering I am questioning my use of Java rather than python but at 5,000 lines of code it would be insane to turn back now... Other things you might find useful Client: GWT Server: Servlets running on google app engine storing data into the google data store Excel file: mandatory, CSV isn't good enough, no need to save the file just to be able to "serve" it to the client i.e. open a "Save As" box.

• What should I really release as open source when I use Berkeley DB (JE)?

  The Berkeley DB (JE) license information says: "...Redistributions in any form must be accompanied by information on how to obtain complete source code for the DB software and any accompanying software that uses the DB software.... For an executable file, complete source code means the source code for all modules it contains. It does not include source code for modules or files that typically accompany the major components of the operating system on which the executable file runs." If I build an abstraction level on top of BDB JE, should I open source only that library or any software that uses BDB JE indirectly?

• How to get Screen Shot / Screen Capture from Web user on MVC site?

  I've seen a few different apps that allow users to take screen shots on their PC and then the utility will automatically upload the image to the web server. I'd like to incorporate this type of functionality into a new MVC site. I could certainly just allow the user to upload their own image, but it'd be cleaner if they could click Capture Screen Shot and the image would be uploaded automatically. My team is using ASP.NET MVC2 with a SQL back end database. We are certainly willing to look into 3rd party components (activeX based, etc.) that will allow us to achieve this.

But I still not found an elegant way to filter UI components (e.g. widgets, form elements, tables, etc) using the current user roles without contaminate the view with business logic. same applies for model binding. Example Form: Product Creation Fields: Name Price Discount Roles: Role Administrator Is allowed to see and modify the Name field Is allowed to see and modify the Price field Is allowed to see and modify the Discount Role Administrator assistant Is allowed to see and modify the Name Is allowed to see and modify the Price Fields shown in each role are different, and model binding needs to ignore the discount field for 'Administrator assistant' role. How would you do it?

  Hi, I have a c# application that I have moved to a 64bit machine. This application reads in an Excel file for some data input. I would like to build this project as 64bit. Is there any way to have my program read in this file? I find it hard to believe that there is no way to use and Excel file as input into a 64bit app. I have installed Office 2010 64 bit as well as the 2010 Office System Driver Beta: Data Connectivity Components with no luck.   Hi all, I am making my first web application with ASP.NET and I am having a rough time. I have previously created the application I am working on as a Windows Form application and it works great, but I am having problems with the HTML side of things in the web application. My issues are pretty minor, but very annoying. I have worked with websites before and CSS, but as far as I can tell I do not have direct access to a CSS when creating a web application in VS 2008. My biggest issue is the positioning of components that I have dragged onto the "Default.aspx" form. For instance, how am I supposed to float a panel next to another one if I don't have a CSS, or how am I to correctly position a label?

• Programmatically adding a trusted cert in Java

  I use SSL to communicate between two components written in Java. I can't use a CA, so I have to self-sign everything. Unfortunately, this means that when I try to handshake, I get a SunCertPathBuilderException. I can create my own X509TrustManager that just trusts everything, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a signed cert. I would like, when first making the connection, to prompt the user with "SSL handshake with invalid cert. Add cert to store?" or something so they could have it added for them to their certificate store, like web browsers do at sites with invalid certs. I can find plenty of examples online of adding a cert to the store through the commandline, but I can't figure out how to do it programmatically. Is there a way to do this?

The full problem For those who are lazy to go and read, it's like this: a0, a1, a2, ..., an - sequence of N numbers B - a Complex Number (has both real and imaginary components) X = a0 + a1*B + a2*(B^2) + a3*(B^3) + ... + an*(B^n) So if you are given B and X, you should find a0, a1, ..an. I don't know how or where to start, because not even N is known, just X and B. The problem is not as easy as expressing a number in a base B, because B is a complex number. How can it be solved?

• Desktop mono app and MVC/MVP framework

  I am looking for a MVC/MVP (mvp prefferably) framework for my first mono app. There doesn't seem to be too much out there, but I have found the following: http://www.mvcsharp.org/ http://desktoprails.osl.ull.es/doku.php I've been looking into both for some time, and MVC# seems to be closer to what I want. The issue is that MVC# seems to be a .net project and not designed specifically for mono (as opposed to desktop rails), so I'm not 100% sure how it will play with mono. Also, it is under the Microsoft Public License (MsPL), and I am not sure how well that license will play with other components I intend to use that are gpl/mit/apache/etc. So if anyone has any experience with either of these frameworks in mono and can answer any of these questions, I would appreciate any feedback.

  I have several applications that are structured as follows DataComponent WebComponent ThickClientComponent WebServices The DataComponent has all the functionality required to access the application's data so it contains the DAOs and the JPA entities. The other three modules are: WebComponent - A spring MVC application that uses the DataComponent for data acccess ThickClientComponent- A Swing application that uses the DataComponent for data access WebServices - A SOAP based services that also uses the DataComponent. All three projets have the DataComponent as a dependeny in their Maven POM file. I would like to use a rich client framework like RichFaces, icefaces or primefaces as i need to be able to use the rich components are available in rich client frameworks (i.e. trees, panel, drag and drop etc). I have looked around and i cant seem to find an example where a Spring MVC application uses a rich client platform. Is it possible? Are the rich client platforms a framework meaning that i have to use either Spring MVC or the rich client platform but not both? The DataComponent module is spring based.

• Do any browsers yet support HTML5's checkValidity() method?

  The HTML5 spec defines some very interesting validation components, including pattern (for validating against a Regexp) and required (for marking a field as required). As best I can tell, however, no browser yet actually does any validation based on these attributes. I found a comparison of HTML5 support across engines, but there is no information about validation there. In the browsers I've tried (Firefox 3.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4), no object has a checkValidity() method, so I can't run the validations even though I can define them. Is there any support for this feature out there so I can experiment?

• Saving Blob data from SQLite database to a file

  Hello, I'm trying to save blob data from a SQLite database (Safari cache: Cache.db) to a file, but for some reason sqlite won't read the whole blob. I eventually would like to do this in ruby, but for now something that works directly in sqlite command prompt is fine. Also, I've read all of the entries that talk about this here on stackoverflow, but most of them only discuss the performance of saving images in blobs and the one entry that does show to save blobs to file is in C# which does not help me.   Hi I'd like to find a component that help me to build input forms in asp MVC. I find that ther are many components (grid, tree, tab...) but not a "Form component". I know that i can use the HTML HELPER (.labelfor(.. .inputTextFor(... ) ..but i don't like to write the html tags around the fields and labels ( ... ) I want that all the form in my application look similar and, if a change is needed i want to make it in one place ( ex in the "FormComponentFactory()" for example ) I created my own FormComponent but i find myself reinvent the wheel..

• How to find out who's causing an access violation error?

  I'm getting reports that my app is causing a GPF on some Vista machines. The error message is something like this: access violation at 0x75784062 ( tried to write to 0x00000006) In order to fix this, I first need to know exactly who is causing this GPF: my main exe, some third party component, one of my own activex components, a dll, etc... How can I find this out? What tools can pinpoint the exact module that caused this mess? Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS My app is coded in VB6 and my activex controls are written in Delphi 2007.

• Spring bean creation via deserialization

  Spring has many different ways of creating beans, but is it possible to create a bean by deserializing a resource? My application has a number of Components, and each manipulates a certain type of data. During test, the data object is instantiated directly and set directly on the component, e.g. component.setData(someDataObject). At runtime, the data is available as a serialized object and read in from the serialized stream by the component. Rather than having each component explicitly deserialize it's data from the stream, it would be more consistent and flexible to have Spring deserialize the data object from a resource. Is there a DeserializerBeanFactory or something similar?
