  • unable to upgrade VMWare tools in Ubuntu 8.10

    I'm having a rather odd issue with a VMWare Tools upgrade on Ubuntu 8.10. As the screenshot below demonstrates, it wants to remove the old version before installing the new version (ok, not a problem). When it attempts to do so, however, it tells me that it can't uninstall the previous version, because there isn't one (there is! problem!). Has anyone encountered this? Googling didn't turn up much.

    I'm in the process of installing Windows 7 on a new machine. Before I install any software I'd like to make a clone of the C: drive and stick that in another new box, to save the install hassle. The machines have the same box, motherboards, cpu, RAM and drive, the only things different are the mouse and DVD drive. Any risk with this?     I downloaded garageband from mac app store but something happend with my internet connection - probably connection crashed - and downloading (or installing) stopped. When apps instalation didnt start, then I cklicked on install button at Mac AppStore. In Launchpad was created new icon of garageband which was downloaded again and internet connection crashed again.     Hi I recently installed Ubuntu. It lets me to use GParted to let me take free space from Windows XP partition. After installing Ubuntu, it nicely presents a boot menu that lets me to boot either UBuntu or XP. Now, my XP sucks and I need to remove/re-install it. Then how can I restore the boot menu of Ubuntu?     have installed VS 2003 in my XP VM, which was shared from a remote drive, after installing, when I tried to open new windows application, the IDE freezes, I have tried it many times, repairing, uninstalling .net 1.1 and VS 2003 and again install, mapping the share drive to my local, etc., After all these trials I was left with no option I know...     Hi, I am working with Ubuntu latest version. While installing via apt-get install i tried to abort that by pressing Ctrl+Z. It terminate successfully ;). But next time when i tried to use apt-get, i got some error "lock" and "temporally unavailable" something like that and **I unfortunately i delete the /var/lib/dkpg folder.** after that i cant install anything from apt-get, getting an error. E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 so how can i solve this issue?

    If anyone has had more than a couple of Microsoft tools or products installed (or a local install of the MSDN library) side by side, you might have noticed that opening help (hitting F1) or opening, say, SQL Server Books Online causes the help indexes to be re-indexed - this is usually after installing a new product or tool. This can be a really, really time consuming exercise! Does anyone know a way to prevent or opt out of having combined help indexes? At best, even just preventing the reindexing at all?

    One day instead of connecting to the database my SQL Server Management gave me the following error: "Data Source name not found & no default driver found" Note it had been working for several years before this, all that had changed was an upgrade to Office (97 -2000) and the monthly Windows patches. I tried rebooting, re-installing both the SQL Server 2000 and 2005 clients on the machine but no joy. I can access the database(s) from other machines.

    I am installing postfix and I am confused what to put for the system mail name. It has an exmaple that sais use "example.org" if a mail address on the system is "[email protected]" but it also sais that the mail name should be the FQDN. my hostname is "mercury" and my FQDN is "mercury.pacificseatheat.org", so should I use "pacificseatheat.org" or "mercury.pacificseatheat.org" for the system mail name? Thanks
