  • looking for a model number recommendation for a network setup of 49 switches [closed]

    - by Bahrain Admin
    im looking to setup a site with 49 edge switches connected by fiber to a central switch. 3 VLANs will be setup to handle data, telephony, and streaming media. each edge switch should have provision for 2 SFP modules for failover, and the core switch needs to have the provision to handle this failover. i'm getting lost on the Cisco site with their specs and recommendations. if anyone could suggest a suitable model number for the core switch and the edge switch, it would be really appreciated.

  • Changing CSS on the fly in a UIWebView on iPhone

    - by Shaggy Frog
    Let's say I'm developing an iPhone app that is a catalogue of cars. The user will choose a car from a list, and I will present a detail view for the car, which will describe things like top speed. The detail view will essentially be a UIWebView that is loading an existing HTML file. Different users will live in different parts of the world, so they will like to see the top speed for the car in whatever units are appropriate for their locale. Let's say there are two such units: SI (km/h) and conventional (mph). Let's also say the user will be able to change the display units by hitting a button on the screen; when that happens, the detail screen should switch to show the relevant units. So far, here's what I've done to try and solve this. The HTML might look something like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en-US" lang="en-US"> <head> <title>Some Car</title> <link rel="stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" href="persistent.css" /> <link rel="alternate stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" href="si.css" title="si" /> <link rel="alternate stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" href="conventional.css" title="conventional" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="switch.js"></script> </head> <body> <h1>Some Car</h1> <div id="si"> <h2>Top Speed: 160 km/h</h2> </div> <div id="conventional"> <h2>Top Speed: 100 mph</h2> </div> </body> The peristent stylesheet, persistent.css: #si { display:none; } #conventional { display:none; } The first alternate stylesheet, si.css: #si { display:inline; } #conventional { display:none; } And the second alternate stylesheet, conventional.css: #si { display:none; } #conventional { display:inline; } Based on a tutorial at A List Apart, my switch.js looks something like this: function disableStyleSheet(title) { var i, a; for (i = 0; (a = document.getElementsByTagName("link")[i]); i++) { if ((a.getAttribute("rel").indexOf("alt") != -1) && (a.getAttribute("title") == title)) { a.disabled = true; } } } function enableStyleSheet(title) { var i, a; for (i = 0; (a = document.getElementsByTagName("link")[i]); i++) { if ((a.getAttribute("rel").indexOf("alt") != -1) && (a.getAttribute("title") == title)) { a.disabled = false; } } } function switchToSiStyleSheet() { disableStyleSheet("conventional"); enableStyleSheet("si"); } function switchToConventionalStyleSheet() { disableStyleSheet("si"); enableStyleSheet("conventional"); } My button action handler looks something like this: - (void)notesButtonAction:(id)sender { static BOOL isUsingSi = YES; if (isUsingSi) { NSString* command = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"switchToSiStyleSheet();"]; [self.webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:command]; [command release]; } else { NSString* command = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"switchToConventionalStyleSheet();"]; [self.webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:command]; [command release]; } isUsingSi = !isUsingSi; } Here's the first problem. The first time the button is hit, the UIWebView doesn't change. The second time it's hit, it looks like the conventional style sheet is loaded. The third time, it switches to the SI style sheet; the fourth time, back to the conventional, and so on. So, basically, only that first button press doesn't seem to do anything. Here's the second problem. I'm not sure how to switch to the correct style sheet upon initial load of the UIWebView. I tried this: - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { NSString* command = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"switchToSiStyleSheet();"]; [self.webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:command]; [command release]; } But, like the first button hit, it doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone help me with these two problems?

  • Uploadify Minimum Image Width And Height

    - by Richard Knop
    So I am using the Uplodify plugin to allow users to upload multiple images at once. The problem is I need to set a minimum width and height for images. Let's say 150x150px is the smallest image users can upload. How can I set this limitation in the Uploadify plugin? When user tries to upload smaller picture, I would like to display some error message as well. Here is the PHP file that is called bu the plugin to upload images: <?php define('BASE_PATH', substr(dirname(dirname(__FILE__)), 0, -22)); // set the include path set_include_path(BASE_PATH . '/../library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . BASE_PATH . '/library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); // autoload classes from the library function __autoload($class) { include str_replace('_', '/', $class) . '.php'; } $configuration = new Zend_Config_Ini(BASE_PATH . '/application' . '/configs/application.ini', 'development'); $dbAdapter = Zend_Db::factory($configuration->database); Zend_Db_Table_Abstract::setDefaultAdapter($dbAdapter); function _getTable($table) { include BASE_PATH . '/application/modules/default/models/' . $table . '.php'; return new $table(); } $albums = _getTable('Albums'); $media = _getTable('Media'); if (false === empty($_FILES)) { $tempFile = $_FILES['Filedata']['tmp_name']; $extension = end(explode('.', $_FILES['Filedata']['name'])); // insert temporary row into the database $data = array(); $data['type'] = 'photo'; $data['type2'] = 'public'; $data['status'] = 'temporary'; $data['user_id'] = $_REQUEST['user_id']; $paths = $media->add($data, $extension, $dbAdapter); // save the photo move_uploaded_file($tempFile, BASE_PATH . '/public/' . $paths[0]); // create a thumbnail include BASE_PATH . '/library/My/PHPThumbnailer/ThumbLib.inc.php'; $thumb = PhpThumbFactory::create(BASE_PATH . '/public/' . $paths[0]); $thumb->adaptiveResize(85, 85); $thumb->save(BASE_PATH . '/public/' . $paths[1]); // add watermark to the bottom right corner $pathToFullImage = BASE_PATH . '/public/' . $paths[0]; $size = getimagesize($pathToFullImage); switch ($extension) { case 'gif': $im = imagecreatefromgif($pathToFullImage); break; case 'jpg': $im = imagecreatefromjpeg($pathToFullImage); break; case 'png': $im = imagecreatefrompng($pathToFullImage); break; } if (false !== $im) { $white = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255); $font = BASE_PATH . '/public/fonts/arial.ttf'; imagefttext($im, 13, // font size 0, // angle $size[0] - 132, // x axis (top left is [0, 0]) $size[1] - 13, // y axis $white, $font, 'HunnyHive.com'); switch ($extension) { case 'gif': imagegif($im, $pathToFullImage); break; case 'jpg': imagejpeg($im, $pathToFullImage, 100); break; case 'png': imagepng($im, $pathToFullImage, 0); break; } imagedestroy($im); } echo "1"; } And here's the javascript: $(document).ready(function() { $('#photo').uploadify({ 'uploader' : '/flash-uploader/scripts/uploadify.swf', 'script' : '/flash-uploader/scripts/upload-public-photo.php', 'cancelImg' : '/flash-uploader/cancel.png', 'scriptData' : {'user_id' : 'USER_ID'}, 'queueID' : 'fileQueue', 'auto' : true, 'multi' : true, 'sizeLimit' : 2097152, 'fileExt' : '*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.gif;*.png', 'wmode' : 'transparent', 'onComplete' : function() { $.get('/my-account/temporary-public-photos', function(data) { $('#temporaryPhotos').html(data); }); } }); $('#upload_public_photo').hover(function() { var titles = '{'; $('.title').each(function() { var title = $(this).val(); if ('Title...' != title) { var id = $(this).attr('name'); id = id.substr(5); title = jQuery.trim(title); if (titles.length > 1) { titles += ','; } titles += '"' + id + '"' + ':"' + title + '"'; } }); titles += '}'; $('#titles').val(titles); }); }); Now bear in mind that I know how to check images dimensions in the PHP file. But I'm not sure how to modify the javascript so it won't upload images with very small dimensions.

    Hi there, I am some real trouble getting the transitions working for my iPhone site, I am trying to add the 'flip' transition using, <a class="button flip href="#about">About</a> However I get no flip transition nor do is navigate to the about anchor, here is my HTML, <!DOCTYPE html> <head> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0; user-scalable=0;" /> <title>Elfm Iphone</title> <script src="javascript/jquery.1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script> <script src="javascript/jqtouch.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/jqtouch.css" type="text/css" media="screen" title="no title" charset="utf-8"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="themes/apple/theme.css" type="text/css" media="screen" title="no title" charset="utf-8"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/base.css" type="text/css" media="screen" title="no title" charset="utf-8"> <script type="javascript/text"> $.jQTouch({ icon:'kilo.png', statusBar:'black' }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="about"> <div class="toolbar"> <h1>About</h1> <p>Some about blurb, telling the users about the station and the site, in most cases this won't be a very extensive page, just some background information, nothing that will overface the user and not want them to carry on listening. I would probably be a good idea to push the user to the stream as well. This could be done as an internal link, something like, why not listen to our <a href="http://www.twovalleysradio.co.uk/iphone/stream.pls">live feed?</a></p> </div> </div> <div id="blog"> <div class="toolbar"> <h1>Blog</h1> </div> <p>The blog should be an easy things to implement we should just be able to use the stations RSS feed from wordpress and then style up the entries with CSS to match the look and feel of the sites. We could possibly implement the nice listing features that come with the theme available and if not we could easily build our own theme.</p> </div> <div id="home" class="current"> <div class="toolbar"> <h1>Home</h1> <a class="button flip" href="#blog">Blog</a> </div> <div id="header"> <img src="images/elfm-header.png" alt="ELfm" title="ELfm" /> </div> <div id="content"> <p>Here's a load of text about is and where it's based and why it's coll and who listen to it and a load more blurb and now I'm just adding filler for the sake of it and I know dynamic text is a pain because then we have to consider what happens if there is too much of it but we'll show a live preview on the web service of what the app would look like.</p> </div> <div id="play"> <div id="button"> <a class="play_stream" href=""> Play </a> </div> </div> </div> <div id="twitter"> <div id="tweet"> </div> </div> </body> </html> I am testing this is Chrome and Safari and also the iPhone simulator.

  • Setting marker title in Google Maps API 3 using jQuery

    - by bateman_ap
    Hi, I am having a couple of problems with Google Maps and jQuery. Wondered if anyone can help with the smaller of the two problems and hopefully it will help me to fixing the bigger one. I am using the below code to populate a google map, basically it uses generated HTML to populate the maps in the form: <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.48228_-1.9026:800"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.62km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/800.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/13152.jpg" alt="Metro Bar and Grill" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/800.htm">Metro Bar and Grill</a></h2> <p class="address">73 Cornwall Street, Birmingham, B3 2DF</p><strong class="proposal">2 courses £14.50</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.4754_-1.8999:3195"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.97km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/3195.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34998.jpg" alt="Filini Restaurant - Birmingham" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/3195.htm">Filini Restaurant - Birmingham</a></h2> <p class="address">Radisson Blu Hotel, 12 Holloway Circus, Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1BT</p><strong class="proposal">2 for 1: main courses </strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.47775_-1.90619:10657"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(1.05km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/10657.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34963.jpg" alt="B1 " width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/10657.htm">B1 </a></h2> <p class="address">Central Square , Birmingham, B1 1HH</p><strong class="proposal">25% off food</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.9</dd> </dl></div></div> The JavaScript loops though all the divs with class mapSearch and uses this to plot markers using the div ID to get the lat/lon and ID of the venue: var locations = $(".mapSearch"); for (var i=0;i<locations.length;i++) { var id = locations[i].id; if (id) { var jsLonLat = id.substring(3).split(":")[0]; var jsId = id.substring(3).split(":")[1]; var jsLat = jsLonLat.split("_")[0]; var jsLon = jsLonLat.split("_")[1]; var jsName = $("h2").text(); var jsAddress = $("p.address").text(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(jsLat,jsLon); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: latlng, map:map, icon: greenRestaurantImage, title: jsName }); google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { //Check to see if info window already exists if (!infowindow) { //if doesn't exist then create a empty InfoWindow object infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(); } //Set the content of InfoWindow infowindow.setContent(jsAddress); //Tie the InfoWindow to the market infowindow.open(map,marker); }); bounds.extend(latlng); map.fitBounds(bounds); } } The markers all plot OK on the map, however I am having probs with the infoWindow bit. I want to display info about each venue when clicked, however using my code above it just puts all info in one box when clicked, not individually. Hoping it is a simple fix! Hoping once I fix this I can work out a way to get the info window displaying if I hover over the div in the html.

  • centering ul so that columns will be centered too

    - by user1815176
    In my page I want it so that when you resize the page past the point of the pictures, that the pictures will go into another row, all the way so each picture has it's own row. And then potentially I won't need any media queries. But unfortunaltely I can't find a way to center. I have tried everything I can think of, aside of making hundreds of media queries with different positioning. I can't make it a block because then it won't go into rows, I have tried margin: 0 auto;. I have tried changing the padding, I have even tried using the html align="center". Nothing is working. Here is the website http://spencedesign.netau.net/singaporehome.html Also I have a minor issue, sorry to croud this with two questions. But when it is in it's mobile state, there is no 10px padding at the bottom, and the singapore title is on the left side rather than floating. Here is my code <html> <head> <title> Singapore - Home </title> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial scale=1.0"> <style> * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } body { background: url('woodbackground.jpg'); background-size: cover; min-height: 100%; min-width: 100%; position: relative; top: 0; bottom: 0; left: 0; right: 0; } #container { width: 90%; margin: 0 auto; } h1 { font: bold 65px Helvetica, Arial, Sans-serif; text-align: center; color: #eee; position: relative; top: 60px; } h3 { font: 25px Helvetica, Arial, Sans-serif; text-align: center; color: #eee; position: relative; top: 80px; } ul#gallery { list-style: none; display: inline; margin: 0 auto; position: relative; top: 175px; width: 1300px; } ul#gallery li a { float: left; padding: 10px 10px 25px 10px; background-color: #eee; border: 1px solid #fff; -moz-box-shadow: 0px 2px 15px #333; position: relative; margin: 10px; text-decoration: none; } ul#gallery li a:hover { position: relative; top: -15px; } ul#gallery li a img { height: 150px; width: 250px; max-width: 100%; } ul#gallery li a p { margin-top: 25px; text-align: center; color: #000; font: Helvetica, Arial, Sans-serif; text-decoration: none; font-size: 20px; } @media screen and (max-width: 640px)    { ul#gallery {   left: 2.2%;   width: 600px; }   ul#gallery li a:hover {   top: 0px; } } </style> <body> <div id="container"> <h1> Singapore </h1> <h3><i> Singapore is the worlds first machine that works </i>- Lee Kuan Yew </h3> <ul id="gallery"> <li><a href="#"> <img src="gallery.jpg" alt="gallery" /> <p> Gallery </p> </a></li> <li><a href="#"> <img src="facts.jpg" alt="facts" /> <p> Facts </p></a></li> <li><a href="#"> <img src="tour.jpg" alt="tour" /> <p> Tour </p></a></li> <li><a href="#"> <img src="author.jpg" alt="author" /> <p> Author </p> </a></li> </ul> <br/> </div><!-- Container --> </body> <html> Thanks!

  • Pure Server-Side Filtering with RadGridView and WCF RIA Services

    Those of you who are familiar with WCF RIA Services know that the DomainDataSource control provides a FilterDescriptors collection that enables you to filter data returned by the query on the server. We have been using this DomainDataSource feature in our RIA Services with DomainDataSource online example for almost an year now. In the example, we are listening for RadGridViews Filtering event in order to intercept any filtering that is performed on the client and translate it to something that the DomainDataSource will understand, in this case a System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor being added or removed from its FilterDescriptors collection. Think of RadGridView.FilterDescriptors as client-side filtering and of DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors as server-side filtering. We no longer need the client-side one. With the introduction of the Custom Filtering Controls feature many new possibilities have opened. With these custom controls we no longer need to do any filtering on the client. I have prepared a very small project that demonstrates how to filter solely on the server by using a custom filtering control. As I have already mentioned filtering on the server is done through the FilterDescriptors collection of the DomainDataSource control. This collection holds instances of type System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor. The FilterDescriptor has three important properties: PropertyPath: Specifies the name of the property that we want to filter on (the left operand). Operator: Specifies the type of comparison to use when filtering. An instance of FilterOperator Enumeration. Value: The value to compare with (the right operand). An instance of the Parameter Class. By adding filters, you can specify that only entities which meet the condition in the filter are loaded from the domain context. In case you are not familiar with these concepts you might find Brad Abrams blog interesting. Now, our requirements are to create some kind of UI that will manipulate the DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors collection. When it comes to collections, my first choice of course would be RadGridView. If you are not familiar with the Custom Filtering Controls concept I would strongly recommend getting acquainted with my step-by-step tutorial Custom Filtering with RadGridView for Silverlight and checking the online example out. I have created a simple custom filtering control that contains a RadGridView and several buttons. This control is aware of the DomainDataSource instance, since it is operating on its FilterDescriptors collection. In fact, the RadGridView that is inside it is bound to this collection. In order to display filters that are relevant for the current column only, I have applied a filter to the grid. This filter is a Telerik.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor and is used to filter the little grid inside the custom control. It should not be confused with the DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors collection that RadGridView is actually bound to. These are the RIA filters. Additionally, I have added several other features. For example, if you have specified a DataFormatString on your original column, the Value column inside the custom control will pick it up and format the filter values accordingly. Also, I have transferred the data type of the column that you are filtering to the Value column of the custom control. This will help the little RadGridView determine what kind of editor to show up when you begin edit, for example a date picker for DateTime columns. Finally, I have added four buttons two of them can be used to add or remove filters and the other two will communicate the changes you have made to the server. Here is the full source code of the DomainDataSourceFilteringControl. The XAML: <UserControl x:Class="PureServerSideFiltering.DomainDataSourceFilteringControl"    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"     xmlns:telerikGrid="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls.GridView"     xmlns:telerik="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls"     Width="300">     <Border x:Name="LayoutRoot"             BorderThickness="1"             BorderBrush="#FF8A929E"             Padding="5"             Background="#FFDFE2E5">           <Grid>             <Grid.RowDefinitions>                 <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>                 <RowDefinition Height="150"/>                 <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>             </Grid.RowDefinitions>               <StackPanel Grid.Row="0"                         Margin="2"                         Orientation="Horizontal"                         HorizontalAlignment="Center">                 <telerik:RadButton Name="addFilterButton"                                   Click="OnAddFilterButtonClick"                                   Content="Add Filter"                                   Margin="2"                                   Width="96"/>                 <telerik:RadButton Name="removeFilterButton"                                   Click="OnRemoveFilterButtonClick"                                   Content="Remove Filter"                                   Margin="2"                                   Width="96"/>             </StackPanel>               <telerikGrid:RadGridView Name="filtersGrid"                                     Grid.Row="1"                                     Margin="2"                                     ItemsSource="{Binding FilterDescriptors}"                                     AddingNewDataItem="OnFilterGridAddingNewDataItem"                                     ColumnWidth="*"                                     ShowGroupPanel="False"                                     AutoGenerateColumns="False"                                     CanUserResizeColumns="False"                                     CanUserReorderColumns="False"                                     CanUserFreezeColumns="False"                                     RowIndicatorVisibility="Collapsed"                                     IsFilteringAllowed="False"                                     CanUserSortColumns="False">                 <telerikGrid:RadGridView.Columns>                     <telerikGrid:GridViewComboBoxColumn DataMemberBinding="{Binding Operator}"                                                         UniqueName="Operator"/>                     <telerikGrid:GridViewDataColumn Header="Value"                                                     DataMemberBinding="{Binding Value.Value}"                                                     UniqueName="Value"/>                 </telerikGrid:RadGridView.Columns>             </telerikGrid:RadGridView>               <StackPanel Grid.Row="2"                         Margin="2"                         Orientation="Horizontal"                         HorizontalAlignment="Center">                 <telerik:RadButton Name="filterButton"                                   Click="OnApplyFiltersButtonClick"                                   Content="Apply Filters"                                   Margin="2"                                   Width="96"/>                 <telerik:RadButton Name="clearButton"                                   Click="OnClearFiltersButtonClick"                                   Content="Clear Filters"                                   Margin="2"                                   Width="96"/>             </StackPanel>           </Grid>       </Border> </UserControl>   And the code-behind: using System; Here is how to do it: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Net; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using System.Windows.Documents; using System.Windows.Input; using System.Windows.Media; using System.Windows.Media.Animation; using System.Windows.Shapes; using System.Windows.Data; using Telerik.Windows.Data; using Telerik.Windows.Controls; using Telerik.Windows.Controls.GridView;   namespace PureServerSideFiltering {     public partial class MainPage : UserControl     {         public MainPage()         {             InitializeComponent();             this.grid.AutoGeneratingColumn += this.OnGridAutoGeneratingColumn;               // Uncomment this if you want the DomainDataSource to start pre-filtered.             // You will notice how our custom filtering controls will correctly read this information,             // populate their UI with the respective filters and lit-up the funnel to indicate that             // filtering is active. Go ahead and try it.             this.employeesDataSource.FilterDescriptors.Add(new System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor("Title", System.Windows.Data.FilterOperator.Contains, "Assistant"));             this.employeesDataSource.FilterDescriptors.Add(new System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor("HireDate", System.Windows.Data.FilterOperator.IsGreaterThan, new DateTime(1998, 12, 31)));             this.employeesDataSource.FilterDescriptors.Add(new System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor("HireDate", System.Windows.Data.FilterOperator.IsLessThanOrEqualTo, new DateTime(1999, 12, 31)));               this.employeesDataSource.Load();         }           /// <summary>         /// First of all, we will need to replace the default filtering control         /// of each column with out custom filtering control DomainDataSourceFilteringControl         /// </summary>         private void OnGridAutoGeneratingColumn(object sender, GridViewAutoGeneratingColumnEventArgs e)         {             GridViewBoundColumnBase dataColumn = e.Column as GridViewBoundColumnBase;             if (dataColumn != null)             {                 // We do not like ugly dates.                 if (dataColumn.DataType == typeof(DateTime))                 {                     dataColumn.DataFormatString = "{0:d}"; // Short date pattern.                       // Notice how this format will be later transferred to the Value column                     // of the grid that we have inside the DomainDataSourceFilteringControl.                 }                   // Replace the default filtering control with our.                 dataColumn.FilteringControl = new DomainDataSourceFilteringControl()                 {                     // Let the control know about the DDS, after all it will work directly on it.                     DomainDataSource = this.employeesDataSource                 };                   // Finally, lit-up the filtering funnel through the IsActive dependency property                 // in case there are some filters on the DDS that match our column member.                 string dataMemberName = dataColumn.GetDataMemberName();                 dataColumn.FilteringControl.IsActive =                     this.employeesDataSource.FilterDescriptors                     .Where(fd => fd.PropertyPath == dataMemberName)                     .Count() > 0;             }         }     } } The best part is that we are not only writing filters for the DomainDataSource we can read and load them. If the DomainDataSource has some pre-existing filters (like I have created in the code above), our control will read them and will populate its UI accordingly. Even the filtering funnel will light-up! Remember, the funnel is controlled by the IsActive property of our control. While this is just a basic implementation, the source code is absolutely yours and you can take it from here and extend it to match your specific business requirements. Below the main grid there is another debug grid. With its help you can monitor what filter descriptors are added and removed to the domain data source. Download Source Code. (You will have to have the AdventureWorks sample database installed on the default SQLExpress instance in order to run it.) • Gizmodo Made No Money On Their iPhone 4G Scoop Blog Posts

    - by Gopinath
    Amit Agarwal of Labnol reported couple of days ago that Gizmodo would have made $150,000 from the iPhone 4G scoop that revealed  all the secrets about iPhone 4G. But the reality seems to be entirely different. Gawker Media owner Nick Denton says that "There were no immediate revenue benefits whatsoever — in fact, only costs,"(via businessinsider) Gizmodo paid $5,000 to get hold of iPhone 4G which was lost by an Apple Engineer at a bar after his birthday party. Plus an additional amount of $7000 is spent on keeping the servers up to server 23 page views attracted by the iPhone 4G blog posts. Irrespective of whether Gizmodo made profits or not, they got huge publicity. But at the same time Apple should be very angry with Gizmodo for derailing it’s planned unveiling of the product. We have to wait and see what action Apple is going to take against Gizmodo. Join us on Facebook to read all our stories right inside your Facebook news feed.

  • Geek Fun: Virtualized Old School Windows – Windows 95

    - by Matthew Guay
    Last week we enjoyed looking at Windows 3.1 running in VMware Player on Windows 7.  Today, let’s upgrade our 3.1 to 95, and get a look at how most of us remember Windows from the 90’s. In this demo, we’re running the first release of Windows 95 (version 4.00.950) in VMware Player 3.0 running on Windows 7 x64.  For fun, we ran the 95 upgrade on the 3.1 virtual machine we built last week. Windows 95 So let’s get started.  Here’s the first setup screen.  For the record, Windows 95 installed in about 15 minutes or less in VMware in our test. Strangely, Windows 95 offered several installation choices.  They actually let you choose what extra parts of Windows to install if you wished.  Oh, and who wants to run Windows 95 on your “Portable Computer”?  Most smartphones today are more powerful than the “portable computers” of 95. Your productivity may vastly increase if you run Windows 95.  Anyone want to switch? No, I don’t want to restart … I want to use my computer! Welcome to Windows 95!  Hey, did you know you can launch programs from the Start button? Our quick spin around Windows 95 reminded us why Windows got such a bad reputation in the ‘90’s for being unstable.  We didn’t even get our test copy fully booted after installation before we saw our first error screen.  Windows in space … was that the most popular screensaver in Windows 95, or was it just me? Hello Windows 3.1!  The UI was still outdated in some spots.   Ah, yes, Media Player before it got 101 features to compete with iTunes. But, you couldn’t even play CDs in Media Player.  Actually, CD player was one program I used almost daily in Windows 95 back in the day. Want some new programs?  This help file about new programs designed for Windows 95 lists a lot of outdated names in tech.    And, you really may want some programs.  The first edition of Windows 95 didn’t even ship with Internet Explorer.   We’ve still got Minesweeper, though! My Computer had really limited functionality, and by default opened everything in a new window.  Double click on C:, and it opens in a new window.  Ugh. But Explorer is a bit more like more modern versions. Hey, look, Start menu search!  If only it found the files you were looking for… Now I’m feeling old … this shutdown screen brought back so many memories … of shutdowns that wouldn’t shut down! But, you still have to turn off your computer.  I wonder how many old monitors had these words burned into them? So there’s yet another trip down Windows memory lane.  Most of us can remember using Windows 95, so let us know your favorite (or worst) memory of it!  At least we can all be thankful for our modern computers and operating systems today, right?  Similar Articles Productive Geek Tips Geek Fun: Remember the Old-School SkiFree Game?Geek Fun: Virtualized old school Windows 3.11Stupid Geek Tricks: Tile or Cascade Multiple Windows in Windows 7Stupid Geek Tricks: Select Multiple Windows on the TaskbarHow to Delete a System File in Windows 7 or Vista TouchFreeze Alternative in AutoHotkey The Icy Undertow Desktop Windows Home Server – Backup to LAN The Clear & Clean Desktop Use This Bookmarklet to Easily Get Albums Use AutoHotkey to Assign a Hotkey to a Specific Window Latest Software Reviews Tinyhacker Random Tips Revo Uninstaller Pro Registry Mechanic 9 for Windows PC Tools Internet Security Suite 2010 PCmover Professional Enable Check Box Selection in Windows 7 OnlineOCR – Free OCR Service Betting on the Blind Side, a Vanity Fair article 30 Minimal Logo Designs that Say More with Less LEGO Digital Designer – Free Create a Personal Website Quickly using Flavors.me

  • How to Assign a Static IP Address in XP, Vista, or Windows 7

    - by Mysticgeek
    When organizing your home network it’s easier to assign each computer it’s own IP address than using DHCP. Here we will take a look at doing it in XP, Vista, and Windows 7. If you have a home network with several computes and devices, it’s a good idea to assign each of them a specific address. If you use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), each computer will request and be assigned an address every time it’s booted up. When you have to do troubleshooting on your network, it’s annoying going to each machine to figure out what IP they have. Using Static IPs prevents address conflicts between devices and allows you to manage them more easily. Assigning IPs to Windows is essentially the same process, but getting to where you need to be varies between each version. Windows 7 To change the computer’s IP address in Windows 7, type network and sharing into the Search box in the Start Menu and select Network and Sharing Center when it comes up.   Then when the Network and Sharing Center opens, click on Change adapter settings. Right-click on your local adapter and select Properties. In the Local Area Connection Properties window highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button. Now select the radio button Use the following IP address and enter in the correct IP, Subnet mask, and Default gateway that corresponds with your network setup. Then enter your Preferred and Alternate DNS server addresses. Here we’re on a home network and using a simple Class C network configuration and Google DNS. Check Validate settings upon exit so Windows can find any problems with the addresses you entered. When you’re finished click OK. Now close out of the Local Area Connections Properties window. Windows 7 will run network diagnostics and verify the connection is good. Here we had no problems with it, but if you did, you could run the network troubleshooting wizard. Now you can open the command prompt and do an ipconfig  to see the network adapter settings have been successfully changed.   Windows Vista Changing your IP from DHCP to a Static address in Vista is similar to Windows 7, but getting to the correct location is a bit different. Open the Start Menu, right-click on Network, and select Properties. The Network and Sharing Center opens…click on Manage network connections. Right-click on the network adapter you want to assign an IP address and click Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button. Now change the IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses. When you’re finished click OK. You’ll need to close out of Local Area Connection Properties for the settings to go into effect. Open the Command Prompt and do an ipconfig to verify the changes were successful.   Windows XP In this example we’re using XP SP3 Media Center Edition and changing the IP address of the Wireless adapter. To set a Static IP in XP right-click on My Network Places and select Properties. Right-click on the adapter you want to set the IP for and select Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. Now change the IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses. When you’re finished click OK. You will need to close out of the Network Connection Properties screen before the changes go into effect.   Again you can verify the settings by doing an ipconfig in the command prompt. In case you’re not sure how to do this, click on Start then Run.   In the Run box type in cmd and click OK. Then at the prompt type in ipconfig and hit Enter. This will show the IP address for the network adapter you changed.   If you have a small office or home network, assigning each computer a specific IP address makes it a lot easier to manage and troubleshoot network connection problems. • Install SharePoint 2013 on a two server farm

    - by sreejukg
    When SharePoint 2010 was released, I published an article on how to install SharePoint on a two server farm. You can find that article from the below link. http://weblogs.asp.net/sreejukg/archive/2010/09/28/install-sharepoint-2010-in-a-farm-environment.aspx Now it is the time for SharePoint 2013. SharePoint 2013 brings lots of improvements to the topologies, but still supports two-server architecture. Be noted that “two-server architecture” is meant for small implementations with limited service applications. Refer the below link to understand more about the SharePoint architecture http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/fp123594.aspx A two tier farm consists of a database server and a web/application server as follows. In this article I am going to explain how to install SharePoint in a two server farm. I prepared 2 servers, both of them joined to a domain(SP2013Domain), and in one server I installed SQL Server 2012 (Server name: SP2013_DB). Now I am going to install SharePoint 2013 in the second server (Server Name: SP2013). The following domain accounts are created for the installation.   User Account Purpose Server roles required SQLService - SQL Server service account - This account is used as the service account for SQL Server. - domain user account / local account spSetup - You will be running SharePoint setup and SharePoint products and configuration wizard using this account. -domain user account - Member of the Administrators group on each server on which Setup is run(In our case SP2013) - SQL Server login on the computer running SQL Server - Member of the Server admin SQL Server security role spDataaccess - Configure and manage server farm. This - Application pool identity for central admin website - Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Workflow Timer Service Domain user account (Other permissions will be set to this account automatically)   The above are the minimum list of accounts needed for SharePoint 2013 installation. Now you need additional accounts for services, application pool identities for web applications etc. Refer the service accounts requirements for SharePoint from the below link. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263445.aspx In order to install SharePoint 2013 login to the server using setup account(spsetup). Now run the setup from the installation media. First you need to install the pre-requisites. During the installation process, the server may restart several times. The installation wizard will guide you through the installation. In the next step, you need to agree on the terms and conditions as usual. Once you click next, the installation will start immediately. The installation wizard will let you know the progress of the installation. During the installation you may receive notifications to restart the server, you need to just click the finish button so that the system will be restarted. Once all the pre-requisites are installed, you will get the success message as below. Click finish to close the dialog. Now from the media, run the setup again and this time you choose install SharePoint server. In the next screen, you need to enter the product key, and then click continue. Now you need to agree on the terms and conditions for SharePoint 2013, and click continue. Choose the file location as per your policies and click on the install now button. You will see the installation progress. Once completed, you will see the installation completed dialog. Make sure you select the run products and configuration wizard option and click close. From the start screen, click next to start the configuration wizard. You will receive warning telling you some of the services will be stopped during the installation. Select “create new server farm” radio button and click next. In the next step, you need to enter the configuration database settings. Enter the database server details and then specify the database access account. You need to specify the farm account(spdataaccess). The wizard will grant additional privileges to the account as needed. In the next step you need to specify the passphrase, you need to note this as you need this passphrase if you add additional server to the farm. In the next step, you need to enter the central administration website port and security settings. You can choose a port or just keep it as suggested by the wizard. Click next, you will see the summary of what you have been selected. Verify the selected settings and if you want to change any, just click back and change them, or click continue to start the configuration. The configuration may take some time, you can view the progress, in case of any error, you will get the log file, you need to fix any error and again start the configuration wizard. Once the configuration successful, you will see the success message. Just click finish. Now you can browse the central administration website. It is good to check the health analyzer to review whether there are any errors/warnings. No warnings/errors indicate a good installation. Two-Server architecture is the least configuration for production environments. For small firms with less number of employees can implement SharePoint 2013 using this topology and as the workload increases, they can add more servers to the farm without reconstructing everything.

  • Book Review Charlene Li's New Book: Open Leadership

    - by david.talamelli
    A few weeks ago, I was surprised when I looked in our mail box. I had received an Advance Copy of Charlene Li's new book titled "Open Leadership: How Social Technology Can Transform the Way You Lead". Charlene sent a tweet a while back asking anyone interested in receiving the book to submit their details. I sent off my details and didn't think I would hear anything back, so it was a pleasant surprise. With that I almost feel bad that it has taken me 3 weeks to read her book. It took this long mainly because it has been hard to fit in some quality reading time for myself with work, the kids, volunteering, etc..... I am happy to report I have finished her book and wanted to run through my initial thoughts with you. I first came across Charlene Li after reading her book "Groundswell" a few years ago, her latest book "Open Leadership" is a follow on from Groundswell and to me it seems like a natural progression from the question "Ok the business landscape is changing, what do we do now?" For me these two books have a different writing style to them. Groundswell from memory spoke about broad social media concepts and adoption and alerted us to some of the changes taking place in the SM landscape. Open Leadership seems to be focussed on taking those broad concepts and finding ways to implement them into your environment. That is breaking broad concepts down into individual action items that can be measured and analysed. As the business world changes Leaders must change their approach and let go of control to more control. One of the things I love reading about is seeing real life examples of how people and organisations are making these things happen. In this book Charlene has collected some great collateral and case studies from companies such as Cisco, Best Buy, The Red Cross and The State Bank of India (as a side-note, I wish now that I submitted my input for the Leaders I work with here at Oracle - there are some great examples here of people who empower their staff). As society becomes more adept at using social media it is inevitable that Leaders must become open with their employees, clients and partners. From the book some of the key points I took away are (I actually took away a lot more from this book, this is just an overview) : 1) Organisations should encourage risk taking. Without being a "hacker", how can we improve ourselves, our processes, our business, etc... The old saying you only fail by not trying applies here. If Leaders create a culture where people are afraid to stick their neck out - how will you innovate? 2) Leaders need to lead by example - if you want to promote an open and transparent business, a Leader needs to exemplify the traits they would like to see out of their employees. 3) The definition of a Leader is changing, open leadership is about being a catalyst to change that uses networks to spread a vision as opposed to traditional leadership that is viewed as a role. 4) There is a cultural and business shift taking place. Information is more wide-spread and is being disseminated faster than any other time in the past. Leaders who are open and transparent will thrive in this new business environment. 5) Leadership is not defined by a title - it is defined by a person's actions. Also anyone can be a Leader or has Leadership potential in them- it is a matter of drawing that out of people. I found this book useful and I also found myself looking at my own actions and the actions of others around me (including my management) to see how open and transparent I am in my work. For me I am glad I read this book as it validated my own thoughts of the changes we are seeing take place. This book has certainly given me some new ideas and helped me push my own boundaries of what I can do. The book has a number of action plans at the end of some of the chapters such as "Conducting you Openness Audit" that I think have helped me take thoughts and ideas and turn them into concrete action items. I have included a link to the introduction of the book here if anyone wants to have a read of it. If anyone else has read this book, it would be great to hear your thoughts/comments/review. • IIS 7 (Windows Server 2008) no entrega javascript ni css

    - by José Marcos García Espinosa
