  • How do you calculate the offset to the client area in WPF?

    I want to position a modal dialog (progress window) at the top right corner of the parent window client area. This code will put it in the corner of the non-client area, but how do I calculate the offset to the client area? this.Owner=owner; this.Left=owner.Left+owner.ActualWidth-Width; this.Top=owner.Top; Edit: I found this 'solution' that works for normal windows: this.Left=owner.Left+owner.ActualWidth-Width-SystemParameters.ResizeFrameVerticalBorderWidth; this.Top=owner.Top+SystemParameters.ResizeFrameHorizontalBorderHeight+SystemParameters.WindowCaptionHeight; This would however fail for windows that have customized borders. EDIT: The code should work regardless of the systems DPI setting (e.g. 120 instead of 96).

  • Possible to lock attribute write access by Doors User?

    Is it possible to programmatically lock certain attributes based on the user? So certain attributes can be written to by User2 and certain attributes cannot be written to by User2. However, User1 may have write access to all attributes. What is the most efficient way of accomplishing this? I have to worry about not taking up too many computational resources, as I would like this to be able to work on quite large modules.

    I have a directory of text files that all end in the extension .txt My goal is to print the contents of the text file. I wish to be able use the wildcard *.txt to be able to specific the text file name I wish to open (I'm thinking along the lines of something like "F:\text*.txt" ?), split the lines of the text file, then print the output.     I have a file which contains several thousand numbers, each on it's own line: 34 42 11 6 2 99 ... I'm looking to write a script which will print the sum of all numbers in the file. I've got a solution, but it's not very efficient. (It takes several minutes to run.) I'm looking for a more efficient solution. Any suggestions?

    Many js files are included into Scripts folder by default in ASP.NET MVC 2 Projects. I suppose developers use jquery library nearly every time they program a site, but what about other files? Please, can you tell scenarios and reasons when you: Use Microsoft.Ajax instead of jquery or mix both libraries? Do you use JQuery validation infrastructure instead of asp.net mvc one, or combine them both? Thank you in advance! P.S. there are also diferrent editions of the same file. Do you include different editions depenending on debug/release build?

    I have a custom class called Rows that implements IEnumerable<Row>. I often use LINQ queries on Rows instances: Rows rows = new Rows { row1, row2, row3 }; IEnumerable<Row> particularRows = rows.Where<Row>(row => condition); What I would like is to be able to do the following: Rows rows = new Rows { row1, row2, row3 }; Rows particularRows = (Rows)rows.Where<Row>(row => condition); However, I get a "System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'WhereEnumerableIterator1[NS.Row]' to type 'NS.Rows'". I do have a Rows constructor taking IEnumerable<Row>, so I could do: Rows rows = new Rows { row1, row2, row3 }; Rows particularRows = new Rows(rows.Where<Row>(row => condition)); This seems bulky, however, and I would love to be able to cast an IEnumerable<Row> to be a Rows since Rows implements IEnumerable<Row>. Any ideas?

  • How to resume an ftp download at any point? (shell script, wget option)?

    hi! i want to download a huge file from an ftp server in chunks of 50-100MB each. At each point, i want to be able to set the "starting" point and the length of the chunk i want. i wont have the "previous" chunks saved locally (ie i cant ask the program to "resume" the downlaod). what is the best way of going about that? i use wget mostly, but would something else be better?

    I have a number of users which are logged in at a time in my desktop application. They are working on the same table (create, read, update, delete data) so I have to update their views, to reflect changes, every few seconds - currently I am thinking to use a different thread to do that. I am using the MySQL database engine. Is there a way, using JDBC, to listen for changes on a specific table in the database and triggering a Java method only when changes are made?

    I have a perl script (or any executable) E which will take a file foo.xml and write a file foo.txt. I use a Beowulf cluster to run E for a large number of XML files, but I'd like to write a simple job server script in shell (bash) which doesn't overwrite existing txt files. I'm currently doing something like #!/bin/sh PATTERN="[A-Z]*0[1-2][a-j]"; # this matches foo in all cases todo=`ls *.xml | grep $PATTERN`; isdone=`ls *.foo | grep $PATTERN`; whatsleft=todo - isdone; # what's the unix magic? #and then call the job server; jobserve E "$whatsleft"; and then I don't know how to get the difference between $todo and $isdone. I'd prefer using sort/uniq to something like a for loop with grep inside, but I'm not sure how to do it (pipes? temporary files?) As a bonus question, is there a way to do lookahead search in bash grep?

    To save trips to sql db in my older apps, I store *dozens of data points about the current user in an array and then store the array in a session. For example, info that might be used repeatedly during user’s session might be stored… Dim a(7) as string a(0) = “FirstName” a(1) = “LastName” a(2) = “Address” a(3) = “Address2” a(4) = “City” a(5) = “State” a(6) = “Zip” session.add(“s_a”, a) *Some apps have an array 100 in size. That is something I learned in my asp classic days. Referencing the correct index can be laborsome and I find it difficult to go back and add another data point in the array grouped with like data. For example, suppose I need to add Middle Initial to the array as a design alteration. Unless I redo the whole index mapping, I have to stick Middle Initial in the next open slot, which might be in the 50s. NOW, I am considering doing something easier to reference each time (eliminating the need to know the index of the value wanted). So I am looking to do this… session.add(“Firstname”, “FirstName”) session.add(“Lastname”, “LastName”) session.add(“Address”, “Address”) etc. BUT, before I do this, I would like some guidance. I am afraid this might be less efficient, even though easier to use. I don’t know if a new session object is created for each data point or if there is only one session object, and I am adding a name/value pair to that object? If I am adding a name/value pair to a single object, that seems like a good idea. Does anyone know? Or is there a more preferred way? Built-in Profile class? Re: Profile class I have an internal debate about scope. It seems that the .net Profile class is good for storing app-SPECIFIC user settings (i.e. style theme, object display properties, user role, etc.) The examples I give are information whose values are selected/edited by the user to customize the application experience. This information is not typically stored/edited elsewhere in the app db. But when you have data that 1) is stored already in the app db and 2) can be altered by other users (in this case: company reps may update client's status, address, etc.), then the persistence of the Profile data may be an issue. In this case, the Profile would need to be reset at the beginning and dropped like a session.abandon at the end of each user's session to prevent reloading info that had since been edited by someone. I believe this is possible, but not sure Currently, I use the session array to store both scopes, app-specific and user-specific data. If my session plan is good, I think I will create a class to set/get values from the session also. I appreciate your thoughts. I would like to know how others have handled this type of situation.   • Unable to parse variable length string separated by delimiter

    Hi, I have a problem with parsing a string, which consists only of directory path. For ex. My input string is Abc\Program Files\sample\ My output should be Abc//Program Files//sample The script should work for input path of any length i.e., it can contain any no. of subdirectories. (For ex., abc\temp\sample\folder\joe) I have looked for help in many links but to no avail. Looks like FOR command extracts only one whole line or a string (when we use ‘token’ keyword in FOR syntax) but my problem is that I am not aware of the input path length and hence, the no. of tokens. My idea was to use \ as a delimiter and then extract each word before and after it (), and put the words to an output file along with // till we reach the end of the string. I tried implementing the following but it did not work: @echo off FOR /F "delims=\" %%x in (orig.txt) do ( IF NOT %%x == "" echo.%%x//output.txt ) The file orig.txt contains only one line i.e, Abc\Program Files\sample\ The output that I get contains only: Abc// The above output contains blank spaces as well after ‘Abc//’ My desired output should be: Abc//program Files//sample// Can anyone please help me with this?     I would like to convert this /bin/sh syntax into a widely compatible Windows batch script: host=`hostname` echo ${host} How to do this so that it'll work on any Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 machine? To clarify: I would then like to go on in the program and use the hostname as stored in the variable host. In other words, the larger goal of the program is not to simply echo the hostname.

    Hello, when my user enters data validated as wrong a red circle with a white exclamation mark is shown in the right part of the textbox with the wrong data. The error message is only shown when the user hovers the textbox with wrong data. Do you think that is a bad User experience ? I could show the red error message text to the right side of the textboxes if there would still be space...
