  • Editing true type fonts

    In typical Persian fonts which are True Type, there is a historical problem with yeh and kafs. These fonts are created for Windows 98, which didn't include full Persian support, and now, we have 2 kind of Kafs: Keheh(0x6a9, ?), and Arabic Kaf(0x643, ?), and 2 kind of Yehs: Farsi Yeh(0x6cc, ?), and Arabic Yeh(0x64a, ?). Old fonts use Arabic ones, but the standard keyboard for Persian uses the Persian ones of course. Is it possible to edit and fix these fonts? I've made many attempts to replace these characters with FontLab Studio, which I failed. Any suggestions?

  • Mixing different generations of ATi video cards

    I'm heading in the direction of a three monitor set up and hence suspect I need to go the dual video card route. At the moment, I've a Radeon X1900GT driving two 19" monitors which I'd like to keep and augment with something like a Radeon 5570 which would drive a 22" display. As such, I'm just wondering how Catalyst will cope with this configuration and whether there are any other issues that I'm likely to encounter. In terms of the obvious, my motherboard has two PCI-E slots and my power supply has two video card power connectors, so I'm hopefully covered from that side of things. Thanks in advance.

  • Offset the tickmarks of a secondary axis

    I would like to offset the tickmarks of a secondary axis in excel WITHOUT changing the minimum. Here is a very complicated VBA class that apparently solves the issue but I would like a solution that doesn't require me to construct my entire chart in VBA. Here is an example of what I mean (I removed the chart insides so it looks funny, but really only the axes matter for this question): I am happy with the primary axis on the left. The secondary axis is just the primary axis plus 7.96%, so the secondary axis HAS TO have 0.0796 as a minimum. But I would like my tickmarks to be at nice rounder numbers so I would like to offset the starting point of the secondary axis' tickmarks to only start at 8%. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? Just to be clear about the VBA, I am happy to use a VBA solution but I don't have the time to actually construct the chart itself in VBA. Using VBA to get a handle on the chart and make the adjustment would be perfect.

    I've configured bind9 on my system and it works great when it runs.   • MacBook Pro 13" Install DVD Wont Start

    Hi, Excuse such a basic question... I am a Laptop Fixer and deal with Windows based laptops only but very recently took in a 13" MacBook Pro for a re-install of the OS (easy I thought!) I inserted the Install DVD, held the C button and turn on. I could hear the disk spinning up and after about a min the DVD is ejected. There are a few scratches on the DVD but should be ok as not that deep. However, Windows Vista was installed (it failed to install properly hence the re-install of Mac OS). Should I wipe clean and format the hard disk first? Could this be the reason the DVD is ejected? Any advice would be gratefully accepted? p.s. never held a MacBook Pro before... first impressions, wow... alu casing and massive touch pad... and the magnetic power socket.... so impressed and it doesn't even work!

  • Reset UAC on a folder after permitting access

    When I access a folder in Program Files I get a UAC prompt confirming with me that I want to permit access to it. I say "yes" and get permanent access. My question is: how do I reset this folder so that it prompts me again. The reason I ask is that I am testing a .NET program I wrote that deals with directory access permissions and I need to test it with the UAC protection on. But now that I have permitted access manually, I can't figure out how to turn the UAC protection back on to retest my program.

  • Intel Core i7 clockspeeds

    I've got an Intel i7 3770 CPU and am generally quite happy about it. However when I am just browsing around without programs running in background it seems to underclock itself quite a lot. This is not a real issue, however there seems to be a small hiccup (0.1s maybe) when it clocks itself higher again. Does anyone have a similar issue? Can I change the thresholds that are being used to change the clocks? I absolutely like that it underclocks the CPU whenever I am not around, but it shouldn't start to annoy me. It might also be related to Windows 8.1, but I am not sure about that, just saying that it's a possibility. I ran LatencyMon as suggested and got this (worrying?) result:

  • Error while zipping files with unicode characters in names with Win7's "send to > compressed (zipped) folder"

    When I try to zip files containing unicode characters in their names, such as © or ™, I get the following error: [Window Title] Compressed (zipped) Folders Error [Content] 'C:\Asd™.txt' cannot be compressed because it includes characters that cannot be used in a compressed folder, such as ™. You should rename this file or directory. [OK] This only became a problem when I reinstalled Windows 7. I probably had some resources necessary from this error to be resolved automatically, but it's almost clean installation now and I can't zip files. How do I fix this? UPD: Some time passed since I posted this question, I installed some of my usual applications, but the problem still exists and I'm not sure if it can be fixed by installing some specific application from before.

    The error is that when a batch (about 15) of similar 1 page documents are sent to the printer from the server some of them (last time it was 5) fail with the message ‘Invalid printer specified’ and the others work fine. The same document sent 1 second later will work fine. We are using. Winodws 2008 R2 Std server (64 Bites) C# version 4 Crystal API version 13.2 Printer: HP LaserJet 600 M602 This is error message I'm getting. SSH connection was refused! This usually happens if the VM failed to boot properly. Some steps to try to fix this: First, try reloading your VM with `vagrant reload`, since a simple restart sometimes fixes things.   • Using Private Browsing keyboard shortcut with Firefox and Vimperator

    I am using Firefox 15.0 on OS X Mountain Lion alongside with vimperator. Note that I am using a Windows keyboard. CtrlP is for moving focus to left tab in vimperator. However, the latest Firefox has also CtrlP to enable private browsing. I looked for private browsing with FF "Customizable Shortcuts" addon but there is only CommandShiftP binding associated to it. How can the CtrlP private browsing binding be turned off?

  • HP Jetdirect 175x and HP Officejet K7103 printsharing

    I have managed to get this setup working , but it is very unreliable and either the printserver or the printer seem to crash and wont respond after 1 or 2 prints, although I am able to still access the web config of the 175x. I had a similar problem with a linksys wireless print server with the same problem and assumed that a HP print server would do the job better...grrrr!! Anybody any ideas what to do next? It is not possible to flash the printserver, nor the printer as far as I know, so I assume I have some iffy settings in the print server config somewhre. All our users are W7 or Vista BTW.   • Blank Icon in Control Panel?

    Hi all, Just recently I opened my Control Panel and saw that a blank icon came up before my list of icons. Has anyone else experienced this before? Would it be safe to delete it? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Oops, I should have mentioned this too, but when I try creating a shortcut on the desktop, I get a dialog box saying "Windows could not create the shortcut. Check if the disk is full." Clearly it isn't, since I still have 102 GB of free hard disk space... any ideas? EDIT2: Here is a screenie of my complete Control Panel: EDIT3: *So I did a manual search for .CPL in Windows Search and then looked at the list in TweakUI and got 3 unmatched .CPL files. They are [ncpa.CPL], [sapi.CPL], and [QuickTime.CPL]. I clearly know the QuickTime one, but not too sure about the rest. SCRATCH THAT, I FIGURED IT OUT... BUT IT'S NOT THE BLANK ICON.

  • MacBook Air 2010 Not letting me use Boot Camp

    Hi, I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my MBA, 2010. I open up Boot Camp and attempt to use it, but after the first screen it comes up with an error saying it can't install unless theirs 10GB of free disk space. Right now my hdd has 21.5 GB free. Disk Utility won't let me partition my drive either, so a manual install is out of the question. I need help! My original thoughts were that my disk needed to be defraged to get 10GB of contiguous space. Is this a possibility? This is kind of pissing me off because I really need to get Windows up on this Mac (as much as it dreads me to do it). Thanks!

  • admin can't view non admin user's folder in osx

    I'm trying to add a new keyboard layout for a non admin user on my mac. I had thought that the keyboard layout would be applied for all users when I added it to mine but alas no. I cannot get into the Users\\library\keyboard layouts folder, as it won't let me (but I'm an admin FFS!) I even went into 'get info' and set it to 'everyone read and write' but it still tells me that I don't have permission How on earth can I update the other user's keyboard layout folder?

  • Why does Windows 7 always automatically change the input or keyboard language?

    I am wondering why Windows 7 always automatically changes my input or keyboard language. I've a notebook with an integrated QWERTY keyboard English (United States). Traveling, I use that one but, additionally, I've my own as well as a much better keyboard at home which is a QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany). Thus, being at home, I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard. Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not play along at this one. Every time, I start up my notebook, it is usually set to English (United States) but that's not the problem. In case, I'd use my notebook QWERTY keyboard English (United States), that's fine. However, if I start up my notebook and I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany), I usually press ALT + Left Shift in order to switch from English (United States) to German (Germany) and Windows 7 switches the input language but only for the program that is currently open. If my input language is set to German (Germany) and I, e.g., open NotePad, Windows 7 automatically switches my input language to English (United States). This is very annoying since I've to change the input or keyboard language to German (Germany) every time I open up a new program. Why doesn't Windows 7 stay with one input language if I changed it manually by pressing ALT + Left Shift? Why doesn't the manual change of the input or keyboard language apply for the whole Windows 7? Why does it only affect the currently opened program? Since I've two keyboards with two different layouts, I seriously need to have both of the keyboards languages installed. I tried both of the below settings in order to find a solution for my problem. Currently, I am using the first option, two input languages.     I'm trying to compile Midnight Commander on a KUbuntu 9.10 (Karmic) box with no root access. I've set up a directory under $HOME, downloaded the mc source package and various stuff required for building, such as autotools. I've unpacked the CONTENTS of all those packages into this working directory such that I have the usual ./usr, ./lib, ./etc hierarchy. I manage to get configure through a lot of tests, but I can't seem to fool it into finding glib. checking for glib-2.0... checking for glib-config... no checking for glib12-config... no checking for glib-config... no checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.6... no *** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. configure: error: Test for glib failed. GNU Midnight Commander requires glib 1.2.6 or above. My system has glib installed: /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.2200.3 ... and I've also downloaded and unpacked the glib package into my working directory: libglib2.0-0_2.22.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb libglib2.0-dev_2.22.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb ... but still the elusive glib-config is nowhere to be found. It's not in any debian package for Karmic, either. So I'd appreciate any help getting over this hurdle. Please note, again, that I don't have root, so I can't just merrily apt-get stuff.

  • Invoking 'Hotkey Mode' in IO Gear's GCS632U KVM Switch

    Awhile ago I changed the switch port key to left control on my IO Gear USB Switch and I'd like to change it back to Scroll Lock. When I did this, I have some memory of believing that I had found an error in the documentation for the switch regarding how to enter Hotkey Mode. Per the instructions in the manual(PDF), I'm supposed to be able to enter Hotkey Mode by Holding Scroll Lock for 2 seconds, adding Minus on the keypad for one second, and then release Minus first and within a second release Scroll lock. Ignoring the strangeness and fragility of this process, I'm looking for confirmation that this indeed works for anyone else. I can't remember why I thought it was wrong but I clearly remember that I did (I even had a blog post that I was going to write about but it got lost in the sands of time). As an aside, I'd be interested in seeing if there is any way to force a reset for the switch without entering Hotkey Mode as that would do exactly what I'm trying to do and I wouldn't have to mess with Hotkey Mode.
