  I have a blog hosted on blogspot dot com. In that blog, i want to put some data like Google search string or etc automatically. I want it to be done in this way: Just put a code (server side scripting) linking to a text file or PHP file, and the code will extract the text and output in my blogspot blog. What i DONT want is to use javascript. Beacause, if i use javascript then the output will be seen only in the users screen. I want the output to be seen by Google Bot too.   Hi, I have used just Windows for programming so far. Now, I have an internship starting in two weeks and I will be using just Linux environment with Python programming language. I've installed Ubuntu on my system but have no exposure to shell scripting. I need some advice on how I can quickly learn to use the Linux terminal quickly. Any books or web resources that you can suggest? Also, is there a particular IDE that is generally preferred for Python programming on Linux, or is Vim preferred? • Storing date and time as epoch vs native datetime format in the database

  For most of my tasks I find it much easier to work with date and time in the epoch format: it's trivial to calculate timespan or determine if some event happened before or after another, I don't have to deal with time-zone issues if the data comes from different geographical sources, in case of scripting languages what I usually get from database when I request a datetime-typed column is a string that I need to parse in order to work with it. This list can go on, but for me in order to keep my code portable that's enough to ditch database's native datetime format and store date and time as integer. What do you guys think?

• What language is to binary, as Perl is to text?

  I am looking for a scripting (or higher level programming) language (or e.g. modules for Python or similar languages) for effortlessly analyzing and manipulating binary data in files (e.g. core dumps), much like Perl allows manipulating text files very smoothly. Things I want to do include presenting arbitrary chunks of the data in various forms (binary, decimal, hex), convert data from one endianess to another, etc. That is, things you normally would use C or assembly for, but I'm looking for a language which allows for writing tiny pieces of code for highly specific, one-time purposes very quickly. Any suggestions?

• Java: Sockets or RMI?

  Hi, I need to separate our application into a light-weight gui application and a business logic application. This won't be a client/server setup as such, as the 'server' component will only have one client. The other limitation in the application is that it has only one entry/exit point. Therefore if we were to use RMI, it would only ever be on one function. All form data is already wrapped up into a string and passed through one transport area. Should I just use Java Sockets to enhance this application, or go with RMI? Or some other Java technology? I suspect there is a better way (maybe with the ffmpeg library), but scripting is what I know and ffmpeg generally works. The only books I have found on client/server apps deal with the case of a thin client connecting to a remote database. Two good examples of what I mean are Mathematica and SuperCollider. I'm looking for platform- and language-agnostic discussion of the issues in developing a frontend/backend system.   I've got a game in VB6 and it works great and all, but I have been toying with the idea of creating a scripting engine. Ii'm thinking I'd like VB6 to read in flat text script files for me and then lex/parse/execute them. I have good programming experience, and I've built a simple C compiler, as well as a LOGO emulator before. My question is: Are there any tools that I can use, like Lexx/Yakk/Bison to help me? How should I approach this problem in regards to lexing, parsing, and feeding the commands back to VB6 so I can handle them? Is this idea a BAD IDEA in the sense that there are too many obstacles in the way (For example, building minesweeper in assembly, though not impossible, is very difficult, and a bad idea.)?

Currently, I need to run the script (which builds the global scope) every time a user script is executed: context = setupGroovy(); runScript( context, "global.groovy" ); // Can I avoid doing this step every time? runScript( context, "user.groovy" ); Is there a way to setup this global scope once and just tell the embedded script interpreter: "Look here if you can't find a variable"? That way, I could run the global script once. Note: Security is not an issue here but if you know a way to make sure the user can't modify the global scope, that's an additional plus.

Let's say a user is accessing the service of web application A. After he is authorized, service A wants to call service B via REST client. Is there a way for a service to impersonate a user that is already authorized to the glasfish server? Maybe something like forwarding the security context or editing the headers? • Win32 script environment for testing http redirects?

  The past few days I've been working with setting up an Apache server on Windows. The server is supposed to host several .htaccess files, each redirecting (or, in some cases, proxying) to different hosts. I want to create tests for these redirectons, and the solution I'm currently considering is a CGI script running on the same server, sending GET requests to it and verifying that it gets the correct redirection headers back. A scripting solution (vscript/jscript) seems worth exploring, but so far I've only managed to rule out Microsoft.XMLHTTP because it follows the redirect "behind the scenes". Are there any libraries or other solutions already present on a reasonably standard Windows Server that can do this kind of low-level HTTP work? If not, any other suggestions of simple environments to set up for verifying redirects?

  I'm a total newbie to doing any bash scripting, but I came up with a basic one to help automate the process of removing a number of folders as they become unneeded. #!/bin/bash rm -rf ~/myfolder1/$1/anotherfolder rm -rf ~/myfolder2/$1/yetanotherfolder rm -rf ~/myfolder3/$1/thisisafolder This is evoked like so: ./myscript.sh <{id-number}> The problem is that if you forget to type in the id-number (as I did just then), then it could potentially delete a lot of things that you really don't want deleted. Is there a way you can add any form of validation to the command line parameters? In my case, it'd be good to check that a) there is one parameter, b) it's numerical, and c) that folder exists; before continuing with the script.

• Using an ActiveX object from an Outlook hosted webpage - possible?

  I'm trying to do the following: We have an outlook plugin, written in .NET (and C++). It does various things, and is manually installed on the end users machines (usually via AD deployment or similar) We are changing our search to use a webpage-based search, but from within outlook. That part is ok, however we want to communicate from the webpage to the surrounding outlook application. We can call into outlook by exposing an ActiveX object from our plugin, however we get security warnings, even if it's signed and marked as safe for scripting. Is this even possible? Has anyone done it? Anyone have a better way of doing it? We only need to pass in a small amount of data (a message id), and only from the webpage to outlook [update]: This is the error: automation server can't create object. We can get around it a bit by turning things off in IE, but thats not a good way to do it! Thanks

I can't find anything online about this. I found a single entry for the error message in Google, and it was a swedish (or some other nordic language site) that didn't have an answer to the question. I've tried connecting through both USB and Bluetooth tethering to the iPhone, and they both return the exact same results. I don't have direct control over the firewall, but if changes are necessary to make it work, I may be able to get the powers-that-be to make adjustments. A solution that doesn't require reconfiguring the firewall would be far better of course... Does anyone know what I can do to make this behave? Thanks, Dan

  Once Bind crashed and I did: tail -f /var/log/messages I see a massive number of logs every second. Is this a DNS attack? or is there something wrong? Sometimes I see a domain in logs like this: dOmAin.com (upper and lower). I have 3 gmail accounts & 1 yahoo account. In windows, I use Microsoft outlook or microsoft outlook express. But In mac is there any inbuilt software for it ? If not, is that any freely available mail client for mac osx ? ----------------------- 2 ---------------------------- One more thing, My system administrators has banned regular gmail & yahoo sites. Means I can't use gmail or yahoo site for mailing. Ok. I don't want to break my office rules - but what about my mails on gmail & yahoo, they are really very important for me. • Can't connect to a machine via Cisco VPN on Mac

  Hi there, I have a curious problem. I can connect to work's vpn using Cisco VPN Client. I can get internet through that vpn. When I go check the IP online it tells me the IP address of the server I connected. However, when I try to ping one of the machines at work I get nothing. And traceroute says there is no route to the destination. But works for google. Any ideas? Is some traffic not sent through the VPN on mac Alex

• Cisco VPN disconnects after 5 seconds with error 422

  I'm trying to connect to my university's server with VPN using Cisco VPN Client version 5.0.04, but after 5 seconds it disconnects with the error message 422: Lost contact with the secure gateway. Check your connection. From my research on the net it seems this could be because it tries to find my IP, and finds out that this is 127.0.0.1. Then 5 seconds later it discovers that I have a new IP (my actual IP), and it disconnects because I'm not allowed to change IP. Does anyone know how I could fix this, or if there is another reason i get this error?
