• Remove LCD Stand for Wall Mounting - FSM-270YG

  Based on Jeff Atwood's post on Coding Horror, I ordered one of these monitors, and I've been absolutely loving it. However, I recently (i.e. today) took the next step in monitor-y goodness and fastened the sucker to an articulated wall mount. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to remove the stand. The flat portion comes off with a single screw, but the leg it fastens to has no apparent method of removing it. Has anyone figured out a trick for removing these, so they don't just stick out below the screen? Should I remove the screws from the backside of the screen, and look for an internal connection to remove? Or just give up and live with it? (After all, it's a great display, it's floating in the air in front of me, and the stand leg is only a minor annoyance).

• Display gridview in new window

  Hello all. Just a bit of advice needed really in terms of how I should handle my current scenario: I have a web page that searches for products/category information the results of which are at present displayed in a gridview on the same page. However, said gridview is a bit of a beast and as such, I would like to have a page that the user searches for, a button is pressed and the subsequent gridview is displayed in a new window. Ultimately, I would like the user to be able to make multiple searches so that new windows can have multiple gridviews containing different data sets. My current thinking is to create session variables that can be pulled through onto 'the gridview page'. Having said that, I'm not sure that would work if multiple searches are created? I am also thinking I might be able to create said 'gridview window' using javascript but my concern here is the potential loss of functionality of the gridview i.e. paging, sorting, editing, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts or theories on this? What would be "best practise"? Any thoughts greatly appreciated and taken on board. PS: This is being developed in .net, using c# and LINQ. PPS: I'm a noob so be gentle!!

• Google Chrome never renders fonts properly / no smoothing etc

  A while ago I started using Chrome and no longer Firefox, however I found out something weird which maybe force me to return to Firefox if I can not fix this. I am coding a homepage and the output was in Chrome ugly, in Firefox not. I thought "ok this is maybe due to bad code"... however I found out that the same problems occurs on different sites like Facebook too. The font is not smoothed and it is not nice to read. Here is an example, although I have censored nearly everything... Bad Chrome Rendering Good Firefox Rendering You may need to open up in a new tab to see the errors in detail. Now I want to know, whether this is just Chrome trolling me or maybe something else. EDIT I tried it out under Ubuntu on my PC and it works well... seems to be an error on Windows/Chrome on Windows.

• Customize autoindent settings in VIMRC file

  I have autoindent enabled in my .vimrc file but have run into an annoying bug/feature. For example, when I'm tabbed in 3 times, and I hit return, the new line is also tabbed in 3 times. Then when I hit enter again, that new line is also indented 3 times, as it should. The problem occurs when I go back up to the previous line (the first of the 2 new lines). VIM automatically removes the whitespace because it saw it as an empty line. Is there a way to disable this from happening? I'd like to be able to back to coding like this: function test(){ <return> <return> } <up> <right> Thanks!

  Here's an example that will explain things: Sheets("Plot Data July").Select ActiveSheet.ListObjects("tPDJuly").Range.AutoFilter Field:=2 ActiveSheet.ListObjects("tPDJuly").Range.AutoFilter Field:=4 So as you can see above, Field:=2 is a relative reference to the second field in the table called "tPDJuly". So now if I add more columns, this number does not get updated. The field is actually called "Grade" in the table. So is there a way of coding this so that no matter which column it is in, "Grade" is always updated? I suppose one solution is that we add a line that find what is the column number for "Grade"?

• Stop a particular key getting captured by rdesktop

  Hello, I want F12 to be not capture by my rdesktop while in fullscreen, so that I can do whatever stuff I'm doing on my remote Windows computer, but pressing F12 would bring down yakuake, and I can type down my commands, or use vim etc for whatever I'm doing. Is there any possible way to do this? I tried playing with keymaps, but that didn't help. I set F12 to inhibit, but that seems to have stopped sending F12 altogether, rather than let gnome catch it and let yakuake pop up. Would be really grateful for answers. I am ready to do my homework, if someone could please just give me pointers etc. Thanks :). Sidenote: My current arranement stems from my large monitor in lab, and small personal laptop monitor, and the laptop has Windows 7. My lab computer has Linux, on which I do my coding work.

• transactions and delete using fluent nhibernate

  I am starting to play with (Fluent) nHibernate and I am wondering if someone can help with the following. I'm sure it's a total noob question. I want to do: delete from TABX where name = 'abc' where table TABX is defined as: ID int name varchar(32) ... I build the code based on internet samples: using (ITransaction transaction = session.BeginTransaction()) { IQuery query = session.CreateQuery("FROM TABX WHERE name = :uid") .SetString("uid", "abc"); session.Delete(query.List<Person>()[0]); transaction.Commit(); } but alas, it's generating two queries (one select and one delete). I want to do this in a single statement, as in my original SQL. What is the correct way of doing this? Also, I noticed that in most samples on the internet, people tend to always wrap all queries in transactions. Why is that? If I'm only running a single statement, that seems an overkill. Do people tend to just mindlessly cut and paste, or is there a reason beyond that? For example, in my query above, if I do manage it to get it from two queries down to one, i should be able to remove the begin/commit transaction, no? if it matters, I'm using PostgreSQL for experimenting.

• GIT clone repo across local file system

  Hi all, I am a complete Noob when it comes to GIT. I have been just taking my first steps over the last few days. I setup a repo on my laptop, pulled down the Trunk from an SVN project (had some issues with branches, not got them working), but all seems ok there. I now want to be able to pull or push from the laptop to my main desktop. The reason being the laptop is handy on the train as I spend 2 hours a day travelling and can get some good work done. But my main machine at home is great for development. So I want to be able to push / pull from the laptop to the main computer when I get home. I thought the most simple way of doing this would be to just have the code folder shared out across the LAN and do: git clone file://192.168.10.51/code unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working for me: so I open a git bash cmd and type the above command, I am in C:\code (the shared folder for both machines) this is what I get back: Initialized empty Git repository in C:/code/code/.git/ fatal: 'C:/Program Files (x86)/Git/code' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly How can I share the repository between the two machines in the most simple of ways. There will be other locations that will be official storage points and places where the other devs and CI server etc will pull from, this is just so that I can work on the same repo across two machines. • SQL Server Management Studio Connect to Server List Editing

  I'm using SQLServer Management Studio (2005) and I have a fairly lengthy list of servers in there, and I'd like to get rid of some of them that are no longer in use, without having to set them all up again. I know that the C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat can be deleted and this will remove ALL the entries, but is there anyway to just delete some of them? (Coding info) I looked at the file and it is a serialised blob from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg.dll (Class Personalization) in the Appplication directory, but all the methods are private. So I can't just create an instance of this and then call Remove on the entries. I am using firebugs console.log for debugging, plus have a class set for s_current (bright border) but nothing happens at all. • List<object>.RemoveAll - How to create an appropriate Predicate

  This is a bit of noob question - I'm still fairly new to C# and generics and completely new to predicates, delegates and lamda expressions... I have a class 'Enquiries' which contains a generic list of another class called 'Vehicles'. I'm building up the code to add/edit/delete Vehicles from the parent Enquiry. And at the moment, I'm specifically looking at deletions. From what I've read so far, it appears that I can use Vehicles.RemoveAll() to delete an item with a particular VehicleID or all items with a particular EnquiryID. My problem is understanding how to feed .RemoveAll the right predicate - the examples I have seen are too simplistic (or perhaps I am too simplistic given my lack of knowledge of predicates, delegates and lambda expressions). So if I had a List<Of Vehicle> Vehicles where each Vehicle had an EnquiryID, how would I use Vehicles.RemoveAll() to remove all vehicles for a given EnquiryID? I understand there are several approaches to this so I'd be keen to hear the differences between approaches - as much as I need to get something working, this is also a learning exercise. As an supplementary question, is a Generic list the best repository for these objects? My first inclination was towards a Collection, but it appears I am out of date. Certainly Generics seem to be preferred, but I'm curious as to other alternatives. Thanks

• Why isn't this javascript with else if working?

  I'm sorry I can't be any more specific - I have no idea where the problem is. I'm a total beginner, and I've added everything I know to add to the coding, but nothing happens when I push the button. I don't know at this point if it's an error in the coding, or a syntax error that makes it not work. Basically I am trying to get this function "Rip It" to go through the list of Dewey decimal numbers, change some of them, and return the new number and a message saying it's been changed. There is also one labeled "no number" that has to return an error (not necessarily an alert box, a message in the same space is okay.) I am a total beginner and not particularly good at this stuff, so please be gentle! • Easiest RPC client method in PHP

  I've been asked to help a friend's company to bring up a web application. I have very limited time and I reluctantly accepted the request, at one condition. As most of the logic goes on in the back-end, I suggested that I would finish the complete back-end only, allowing a front-end developer to simply interface with my backend. I plan to do the back-end in Java EE or Python (with Pylons). It does not really matter at this point. I plan to have my back-end completely ready and unit-tested, so that my input will hardly be needed after my work is done. I know they have a PHP programmer, but as far as I could tell he is a real rookie. I want him to basically interface with my backend's services in the easiest possible way, with no way of him "stuffing" it up. It's basically a CRUD-only application. I could implement the backend as accessible through a webservice such as XML-RPC or SOAP. Even a RESTful API could be possible. However, my main objective is to make something that complete "noob" PHP programmer can easily interface with without getting confused. Preferably I do not even want to talk to him because I generally have an extremely busy schedule, and doing "support calls" is not something I am willing to do. Which approach should I choose? I would welcome any suggestions and inputs!

Why? How can I fix this? page2.php is creating some more sessions after some processing is done and a response is sent back to page1.php. The submit button of the form on page1.php is hit and the page gets POST'ed to page3.php. But when the SESSION info that gets created in page2.php is echoed, it's blank signifying that SESSIONS from page2.php are not used. How can I fix this? I looked over a lot of information and have spent about 50 hours trying to do different things with my scripts before arriving at the above conclusions. My app. is custom made using function (not OOPS) and does not use any PHP frameworks & I am not even about to use any as my knowledge of OOP concepts is limited any many frameworks are object oriented. I came across race conditions, but the solutions provided don't help too much. One more solution of using DB to hold sessions and seek and retrieve from DB is the last thing on my mind and I really want to avoid creating table, coding and maintaining code for a task as simple as just keeping sessions across pages in the same domain. So my request is: Is there a way that I can solve the above problem(s) via simple coding in present conditions? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

• UITableViewCell imageView images loading small even when they are the correct size!

  Im having an issue whilst loading images into a UITableViewCell after an asynchronous download and placement into an UIImage variable.. The images appear smaller than they actually are! But when scrolled down and scrolled back up to the image, or the whole table is reloaded, they appear at the correct size...   hi, please help with this noob questions but really making me go crazy if I create a project from scratch (using windows based app) for the ipad, and add a tabbar , with firstviewController, and secondviewController, it works fine, starts in landscape mode, but in info.plist I set it to Landscape(left home button), but really in simulator starts with the button on the right side! in the FirstViewController.m (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft || interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight) return YES; else { return NO; }} so it starts in landscape, and rotates as the simulator rotates, but if I create a template app for iphone tabbar, set the info.plist Initial interface orientation Landscape (left home button) and add the code above, IT DOESNT WORK!!! simulator starts with button at left but tab bar on the side, same problem that I had with an app that Im porting from iphone to ipad, (landscape intended) I get to the landscape start mode, but the tab bar remains on the side! also the only way to make the old ported app to show the simulator on the side was with UIInterfaceOrientation UIIntefaceOrientationLandscapeLeft (didnt work with Initial interface orientation), does not let me choose the value for the key, but it shows the simulator on landscape,, so,, what can I do please to show the tab bar on landscape mode??? the tabbar from scratch was made to see if the code will work , but it didnt?? why does it work in the tab bar made from windows app and not tab bar app? I just want the tab bar to show in landscape ahhh, thanks

• Python and Unicode: How everything should be Unicode

  Forgive if this a long a question: I have been programming in Python for around six months. Self taught, starting with the Python tutorial and then SO and then just using Google for stuff. Here is the sad part: No one told me all strings should be Unicode. No, I am not lying or making this up, but where does the tutorial mention it? And most examples also I see just make use of byte strings, instead of Unicode strings. I was just browsing and came across this question on SO, which says how every string in Python should be a Unicode string. This pretty much made me cry! I read that every string in Python 3.0 is Unicode by default, so my questions are for 2.x: Should I do a: print u'Some text' or just print 'Text' ? Everything should be Unicode, does this mean, like say I have a tuple: t = ('First', 'Second'), it should be t = (u'First', u'Second')? I read that I can do a from __future__ import unicode_literals and then every string will be a Unicode string, but should I do this inside a container also? When reading/ writing to a file, I should use the codecs module. Right? Or should I just use the standard way or reading/ writing and encode or decode where required? If I get the string from say raw_input(), should I convert that to Unicode also? What is the common approach to handling all of the above issues in 2.x? The from __future__ import unicode_literals statement? Sorry for being a such a noob, but this changes what I have been doing for a long time and so clearly I am confused.

  Hi guys, I'm building a free music instrument iPhone app with the Flickr API and ObjectiveFlickr.A random photo from the interestingness list is displayed in the background, but I can't center it without knowing its size. (so I can reset the UIWebView frame) I've been researching this for awhile, and if the answer is super easy, please have some mercy on a noob - it's my first time playing with a web service API. =) Since I don't know the photo ID until after I receive the response from the interestingness feed, how would I call flickr.photo.getSizes on the response? • Recommendations for managing dedicated server DNS

  I've rented a dedicated server for several years with a number of domains. I've got a coding background so am comfortable with that side of the tech, but I hate that I still don't truly understand DNS settings. Example: My provider (hostgator) just told me that my parent nameservers are not correctly configured as there is no A record for my primary nameserver. What book/link/tutorial should I read to go from kind of understanding that comment to really understanding it & knowing exactly what I need to do to fix it rather than trial & error which is what I usually do. Thanks BTW I'm using a WHM/cpanel linux setup at hostgator but am eager to learn the fundamentals.
