  • ASP.Net URL rewirting and redirecting....

    I am trying to wrap my head around a URL rewrtie / redirect project I need to work on. We currently have this url: www.domain.com/Details/Detail.aspx?param1=8&param2=12345 Here is what the rewritten URL will look like: www.domain.com/Param1/8/Param2/12345 I am using the ISAPI_Rewrite filter to allow for the "nice" url and make the page think it is still using the old url. That works fine. Now, I need to redirect users, if they use the old URL, to the new URL. I fgiure I would need to use a combination of the filter and an HTTPModule / Handler to perfomr the redirect. Any ideas?

  • Html.CheckBoxFor() checked problem in ASP.Net MVC 2

    It doesn't seem that the Html.CheckBoxFor helper adds the correct "checked" attribute when rendering the HTML. I have a bool property rendered like so: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(m => m.Visible) %> And the outputted HTML is this: <input type="checkbox" value="true" name="Visible" id="Visible"> Is there some particular reason it does not add the "checked" attribute when the value is true?

    I'm experiencing the a challenge in populating the child records. My previous code was like - <%= Html.TextBox("DyeOrder.Summary[" + i + "].Ratio", Model.DyeOrder.Summary[i].Ratio.ToString("#0.00"), ratioProperties) %> This code does not render the updated values after post back. To resolve this issue my work around was like - <%= "<input id='DyeOrder_Summary_" + i + "__Ratio' name='DyeOrder.Summary[" + i + "].Ratio' value='" + Model.DyeOrder.Summary[i].Ratio.ToString("#0.00") + "' " + ratioCss + " type='text' />"%> This is very clumsy to me. Is there any better ideas...

    My website has been giving me intermittent errors when trying to perform any Ajax activities. The message I get is Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near ' So its obviously some sort of server timeout or the server's just returning back mangled garbage. This generally, unfortunately not always, happens when the site has been idle for a while. Anybody else been able to overcome this? Thanks

  • Trouble with ASP.NET MVC auto-scaffolder template

    I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder template for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. A property Html is automatically created for me when the view is created, but this HtmlHelper applies to the whole collection. I need to somehow create an itemHtml object that applies just to the current item in the foreach loop. I'm not sure how to do this, however, because the constructors for HtmlHelper don't take a Model object. How do I solve these two problems?

    Hi all, I'm new to Stack Overflow, so forgive me. I've just started transititoning over to C# and I am stuck on a problem. I am wanting to pass a generic class in and call a method from that class. So, my code looks as such: public void UpdateRecords<T>(T sender) where T : new() //where T: new() came from Resharper { Type foo = Type.GetType(sender.GetType().ToString()); object[] userParameters = new object[2]; userParameters[0] = x; userParameters[1] = y; sender = new T(); //This was to see if I could solve my exception problem MethodInfo populateRecord = foo.GetMethod("MethodInOtherClass"); populateMethod.Invoke(sender, userParameters); } Exception thrown: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Again, I really apologize, as I am nearly brand new to C# and this is the first time I've ever handled reflection and generics. Thank you!

  • The cost of finalize in .Net

    (1) I've read a lot of questions about IDisposable where the answers recommend not using Finalize unless you really need to because of the process time involved. What I haven't seen is how much this cost is and how often it's paid. Every millisecond? second? hour, day etc. (2) Also, it seems to me that Finalize is handy when its not always known if an object can be disposed. For instance, the framework font class. A control can't dispose of it because it doesn't know if the font is shared. The font is usually created at design time so the user won't know to dispose it, therefore finalize kicks in to finally get rid of it when there are no references left. Is that a correct impression?

    I have a small form which the user must fill in and consists of the following fields. Name (Text) Value (Text) Group (Group - Is a list of option pulled from a database table) Now the Model for this View looks like so, public string Name { get; set; } public string Value { get; set; } public int GroupID { get; set; } Now the view is Strongly Typed to the above model. What method would one use to populate the drop down list? Since the data is not contained within the Model (It could be contained in the Model) should we be using Temp/View data? A HTML Helper? What would be the ideal way to achieve this.

    Hi Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist). I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into? Also, everything works fine on the development machine just not on the server.     Hi, I found that code somewhere and I find it quite useful but I would like to find a way to make it work so it capture only the given window target. Maybe with a processID or Window Name. Even if that window is not active. I do not want to make that window active but want to get a screen capture like if I was doing Alt+PrintScreen on it.     Hi, I'm trying to understand how Eval() works for a specific purpose. I'm working on a project I don't really know and I need to read some data and put them in drop down list. These data are already read and are displayed inside an ItemTemplate. I noticed there are read using the Eval() method. Something like: <ItemTemplate> <a href="...=<%# Eval("foo") %>></a> </ItemTemplate> I need to know where Eval is getting these data from in order to discover where I should read them for my drop down list! But I didn't really understand how it works! I know that Eval() evaluates data binding expressions at runtime but where do you think I should take a look at? Thank you

    On a single view I will have three sets of paged data. Which means for each model I will have The Objects The Page Index The Page Size My initial thought was for example: public class PagedModel<T> where T:class { public IList<T> Objects { get; set; } public int ModelPageIndex { get; set; } public int ModelPageSize { get; set; } } Then having a model which is to be supplied to the action as for example: public class TypesViewModel { public PagedModel<ObjectA> Types1 { get; set; } public PagedModel<ObjectB> Typed2 { get; set; } public PagedModel<ObjectC> Types3 { get; set; } } So if I then for example have the Index view inherit from the type: System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<uk.co.andrewrea.forum.Web.Models.TypesViewModel> Now my initial aciton method for the index is simply: public ActionResult Index() { var forDisplayPurposes = new TypesViewModel(); return View(forDisplayPurposes); } If I then want to page, it is here where I am struggling to decide which action to take. Lets say that I select the next page of the Types2 PageModel. What should the action look like for this in order to return the new view showing the second page of the Types2 PageModel I was thinking possibly to duplicate the action but use it with POST [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Index(TypesViewModel model) { return View(model); } Is this a good way to approach it. I understand there is always Session, but I was just wondering how such a thing is achieved currently out there. If any best methods have been mutually accepted and things. So simply, one page with multiple paged models. How to persist the data for each using a wrapper model. Which way should you pass in the model and which way should you page the data, i.e. Form Post Lastly, I have seen the routes take this into account i.e. {controller}/{action}/{id}/{pageindex}/{pagesize} but this only accounts for one model and I do not really wwant to repeat the pagesize and pageindex values for the number of models I have inside the wrapper model.     Hello, I have a class with a delegate declaration as follows... Public Class MyClass Public Delegate Function Getter(Of TResult)() As TResult 'the following code works. Public Shared Sub MyMethod(ByVal g As Getter(Of Boolean)) 'do stuff End Sub End Class However, I do not want to explicitly type the Getter delegate in the Method call. Why can I not declare the parameter as follows... ... (ByVal g As Getter(Of TResult)) Is there a way to do it? My end goal was to be able to set a delegate for property setters and getters in the called class. But my reading indicates you can't do that. So I put setter and getter methods in that class and then I want the calling class to set the delegate argument and then invoke. Is there a best practice for doing this. I realize in the above example that I can set set the delegate variable from the calling class...but I am trying to create a singleton with tight encapsulation. For the record, I can't use any of the new delegate types declared in .net35. Answers in C# are welcome. Any thoughts? Seth
