• Caveats to be aware of when using threading in Python?

  I'm quite new to threading in Python and have a couple of beginner questions. When starting more than say fifty threads using the Python threading module I start getting MemoryError. The threads themselves are very slim and not very memory hungry, so it seems like it is the overhead of the threading that causes the memory issues. Is there something I can do to increase the memory capacity or otherwise make Python allow for a larger number of threads? What is the maximum number of threads you've been able to run in your Python code using the threading module? Did you do any tricks to achieve that number? Are there any other caveats to be aware of when using the threading module?

• How to create Ribbon tabs dynamically?

  I want to start developmet of new application using PrismV4, MEF, Ribbon. But now, I have a problem. How to create tabs for Ribbon dynamically? Each module in application could create own tab in Ribbon. And each tab may have many groups. How can it be done? Where do I need to place each group's definitions (what controls to use (buttons, textboxes, comboboxes, etc) and command bindings and how? Do I need to write XAML somewhere in Module, or all it can be done by code? And last question, how to notify Ribbon (in Shell) to add these tabs to Ribbon? Shall I use EventAggregator to communicate from Module to Shell? Or? Thanks for any advices and Happy New Year :)

• Is this a possible way to get Drupal AD SSO?

  I'm currently building a Drupal website in an Active Directory environment. One of the site's requirements is Single Sign On, which to date seems to be impossible because there is no Kerberos SPNEGO/GSSAPI auth module for drupal. I've come up with an idea on how SSO could be attempted on IIS. Since IIS has the option to require Kerberos authentication, we can let IIS handle authentication and use the AUTH_USER server variable to pass the authorized user name to the an 'improved' LDAP_auth module. The LDAP_auth module would then check the user name (but not password since it doesn't know or need to know the password) against LDAP to get the user's roles. (AD groups) Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, does anyone have any ideas on how to implement this?

  I was wondering if any effort has been made towards integration of YUI3 with rails asset pipeline. By integration, I don't just mean a couple of helpers for including the library but rather a complete integration of YUI module loader. I'll elaborate the idea in detail: Currently, developers developing modules using YUI rely on Ant tasks for concatenating the module components and wrapping them up with some associated metadata and generating target files ( and optionally minifying and running jslint). Also, when fetching the modules, the YUI loader calculates the module dependencies and generates a single file comprising of all the dependencies which havent been included already in the page. I was wondering if the whole functionality could be seamlessly integrated into the Asset pipeline of rails.

• How do I use google API within perl CGI script?

  The google API example shows that you should have the javascript within the head tag but I am using perl module CGI and in there they suggest that you use "print header;" instead of writting out your headers explicitly. So if I want to use the perl CGI module and the google API javascript what is the correct way to do this? I tried writing out the header explicitly but It seemed like the perl module really wanted me to use the header method. It seems like this would be a common use case but I looked around the web for some examples of this and I could not find one. Any help would be appreciated.

  I'll explain what i'm looking for in code as thats probably the most succinct: module Mixin def method puts "Foo" end end class Whatever include Mixin end w = Whatever.new w.method => "Foo" # some magic here w2 = Whatever.new w.method => NoMethodError I had tried just undefining the Mixin module using remove_const, but this doesn't seem to make any difference to Whatever. I had assumed that #include just added a reference to the module into the class's method resolution chain - but this behaviour doesn't agree with that. Can anyone tell me what include actually does behind the scenes, and how to reverse this?

• F#: Can't hide a type abbreviation in a signature? Why not?

  In F#, I'd like to have what I see as a fairly standard Abstract Datatype: // in ADT.fsi module ADT type my_Type // in ADT.fs module ADT type my_Type = int In other words, code inside the module knows that my_Type is an int, but code outside does not. However, F# seems to have a restriction where type abbreviations specifically cannot be hidden by a signature. This code gives a compiler error, and the restriction is described here. If my_Type were instead a discriminated union, then there is no compiler error. My question is, why the restriction? I seem to remember being able to do this in SML and Ocaml, and furthermore, isn't this a pretty standard thing to do when creating an abstract datatype? Thanks

• Does Apache allow to authorize an HTTP request based on a result of a subrequest?

  I'm looking for an equivalent of nginx http auth request module but for Apache. For each incoming HTTP requests, the module sends a subrequests to authentication/authorization back-end. Th auth request carries a path and all headers of the original request. Based on the result of the auth request, the original requests is allowed (HTTP code 200), denied (HTTP code 403) or login is requested (HTTP code 401). Such a generic mechanism allows to build really flexible authentication and authorization schemes. Is something like this possible in Apache (likely with a help of some third party module)?

• "Reloading" Bindings in Ninject2?

  I'm using Ninject2 for DI and I have a Module that loads data from a config file. I wonder if there is a way to tell the Kernel or the Module to reload the config? (I can trigger that through code if needed) What worries me is the lifetime of existing objects. Say I have ITest bound to TestImpl1 in Singleton Scope and I change the config to bind ITest to TestImpl2 instead. All new requests should get TestImpl2, but the classes that already requested TestImpl1 before obviously keep it. However, what if all users of TestImpl1 are gone - will TestImpl1 be properly garbage collected and disposed in case it implements IDisposable? Or will it just be orphaned? Do I have to loop through each type and call Unbind/Bind on it? Or can I just unload the entire Module and reload it while still managing any existing object?

• What action is my Symfony/Doctrine generated form actually going to?

  In my Symfony 1.4 project I am using the doctrine:generate-admin task to create the modules that compose my backend system. One such module is "journeys". When I view the source of the "journeys/new" page (which displays the form to create a new journey entity) the action of the form is simply "journeys" (I expected it to be "journeys/create"). The "journeys" route on its own would call the executeIndex method - however I put a log call in there and upon form submission, the log is not made. So this leads me to believe that executeIndex is NOT being called, and another piece of code is being fired upon form submission that then (depending on a hidden input in the form) calls either executeCreate() or executeUpdate(). Problem is, I don't know where that would be happening. Any insight would be much appreciated. • Pass form data from block to a page view in Drupal

  I am using the location module and views module for a postcode search, which works fine in a page display using views. However I want the user to be able to enter their postcode into a block on the homepage and clicking submit my module sends them to the page created in views and the postcode is set as a session S_SESSION['postcode'] before sending to this page, next I want the location page to load but using the session to display the locations automatically. Any ideas I am using hook_form_submit() and inside that declaring the $form_state as a session and then using $form_state['redirect'] to sent to the views page path.

  I am using Symfony 1.3.2 and I have a page that uses a partial from another module. I have two modules: 'foo' and 'foobar'. In module 'foo', I have an 'index' action, which uses a partial from the 'foobar' module. so foo/indexSuccess.php looks something like this: Some data here ? I want to cache 'part2' of my foo/indexSuccess.php page, because it is very expensive (slow). I want the cache to have a lifetime of about 10 minutes. In apps/frontend/modules/foo/config/cache.yml I need to know how to cache 'part2' of the page (i.e. the [very expensive] partial part of the page. can anyone tell me what entries are required in the cache.yml file?

  I am making a drupal module. My requirement in the module is that when the module is activated then it needs to add a javascript in page.tpl file just after the body tag. Can anyone help me how to do this. I have tried using drupal_add_js but it will not exactly put the script after body tag, rather puts inside the head or below in footer. I also tried using template variable and preprocess method but the problem is the preprocess method replaces the old value of that variable with the new one. Is there a way how i can implement this in.

• How can I change ruby log level in unit tests based on context

  I'm new to ruby so forgive me if this is simple or I get some terminology wrong. I've got a bunch of unit tests (actually they're integration tests for another project, but they use ruby test/unit) and they all include from a module that sets up an instance variable for the log object. When I run the individual tests I'd like log.level to be debug, but when I run a suite I'd like log.level to be error. Is it possible to do this with the approach I'm taking, or does the code need to be restructured? Here's a small example of what I have so far.   I'm trying to add a function that will be accessible throughout all parts of my program. I want something like: def GlobalFunctions.my_function(x,y) puts x + y end to be accessible for all models. Specifically I am trying to use a function like this in my seeds.rb file but I am most likely going to be reusing the code and don't want any redundancy. Now I know I can make a simple class, but I could also make a module. What are some reasons to go in either direction? And once I've decided on which type to use, how do I make it accessible throughout the whole program? I have tried a module, but I keep getting " Expected app/[module file] to define [ModuleName]"

• Can pydoc/help() hide the documentation for inherited class methods and attributes?

  When declaring a class that inherits from a specific class: class C(dict): added_attribute = 0 the documentation for class C lists all the methods of dict (either through help(C) or pydoc). Is there a way to hide the inherited methods from the automatically generated documentation (the documentation string can refer to the base class, for non-overwritten methods)? or is it impossible? This would be useful: pydoc lists the functions defined in a module after its classes. Thus, when the classes have a very long documentation, a lot of less than useful information is printed before the new functions provided by the module are presented, which makes the documentation harder to exploit (you have to skip all the documentation for the inherited methods until you reach something specific to the module being documented).

• Oracle Hibernate with in Netbean RCP

  All, i have a problem with hibernate using netbean platform 6.8, i have been search around internet, but cannot found the suitable answer This is my story. i am using oracle database as data source of my hibernate entity with ojdbc14.jar driver. First i create hibernate entity tobe wrapped latter in a netbeans module, i tested the hibernate connection configuration and everything just works well. i can connect to oracle database successfuly, every hibernate query works well. Then i wrapped that hibernate entity jar as a netbeans module, create another module to warp my ojdbc14.jar then i test it. and, im using hibernate library dependency that available on netbean platform (netbean 6.8), but unfutornatelly i got oracle sql error saying “no suitable driver for [connection url]” when running the project. thats quite weird since it doesn’t happend when I test it before with out netbean platform. i thought that is related to netbeans lazy loading issue, i am not sure,. any idea ? tq for help

• java - reduce external jar file size

  Hi all, still learning, so be patient :) I've developed a module for a Java project. The module depends on external library (fastutil). the problem is, the fastutil.jar file is a couple of times heavier than the whole project itself (14 MB). I only use a tiny subset of the classes from the library. the module is now finished, and no-one is likely to extend it in future. is there a way I could extract only the relevant class to some fastutil_small.jar so that others don't have to download all this extra weight? there's probably a simple answer to this, but as I said, I still consider myself a noob.   I used to Python logging, it works fine. The logging.basicConfig(...) set in one module (a some.py file), then we can use logging every where. Obviously, logging is global. The question is how logging find it's settings, when we not call the module where basicConfig(...) appeared (in some.py file )? Is logging scan all the packages? Even the logging.basicConfig(...) put into an any.py and the module (any.py) never get imported, or not used anywhere, the logging setting take effect!

This happens to be a polled driver, so obviously it hits the system hard when either under lots of traffic or an error condition occurs and the driver constantly polls. I originally thought that there was no straightforward way to make such code interrupt driven in the kernel (as it's a cludge) but I realised that that's exactly what ETHDBG drivers do. Is there any reason why I shouldn't have a go at implementing a similar mechanism for our kernel resident I2C driver? If not, are there any obvious pitfalls - I've not seen any other BSP's do this in the past... A: You can make a 'proper' driver that calls down into the OAL to do the actual I2C transactions. Alternatively you can build an interrupt-based version in the OAL where you handle everything in the ISR. There is nothing wrong with that so long as the rest of your drivers and app threads can handle longer times with interrupts off while you are servicing I2C interrupts. I think I started debugging last time by using wireshark to see what was happening on the network then setting up the OAL_ETHER and OAL_FUNC and OAL_VERBOSE as well as OAL_KITL flags to see what was actually happening in the driver....
