  • IE9 not rendering box-shadow Elements inside of Table Cells

    - by Rick Strahl
    Ran into an annoying problem today with IE 9. Slowly updating some older sites with CSS 3 tags and for the most part IE9 does a reasonably decent job of working with the new CSS 3 features. Not all by a long shot but at least some of the more useful ones like border-radius and box-shadow are supported. Until today I was happy to see that IE supported box-shadow just fine, but I ran into a problem with some old markup that uses tables for its main layout sections. I found that inside of a table cell IE fails to render a box-shadow. Below are images from Chrome (left) and IE 9 (right) of the same content: The download and purchase images are rendered with: <a href="download.asp" style="display:block;margin: 10px;"><img src="../images/download.gif" class="boxshadow roundbox" /></a> where the .boxshadow and .roundbox styles look like this:.boxshadow { -moz-box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; -webkit-box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; } .roundbox { -moz-border-radius: 6px 6px 6px 6px; -webkit-border-radius: 6px; border-radius: 6px 6px 6px 6px; } And the Problem is… collapsed Table Borders Now normally these two styles work just fine in IE 9 when applied to elements. But the box-shadow doesn't work inside of this markup - because the parent container is a table cell.<td class="sidebar" style="border-collapse: collapse"> … <a href="download.asp" style="display:block;margin: 10px;"><img src="../images/download.gif" class="boxshadow roundbox" /></a> …</td> This HTML causes the image to not show a shadow. In actuality I'm not styling inline, but as part of my browser Reset I have the following in my master .css file:table { border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0; } which has the same effect as the inline style. border-collapse by default inherits from the parent and so the TD inherits from table and tr - so TD tags are effectively collapsed. You can check out a test document that demonstrates this behavior here in this CodePaste.net snippet or run it here. How to work around this Issue To get IE9 to render the shadows inside of the TD tag correctly, I can just change the style explicitly NOT to use border-collapse:<td class="sidebar" style="border-collapse: separate; border-width: 0;"> Or better yet (thanks to David's comment below), you can add the border-collapse: separate to the .boxshadow style like this:.boxshadow { -moz-box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; -webkit-box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; box-shadow: 3px 3px 5px #535353; border-collapse: separate; } With either of these approaches IE renders the shadows correctly. Do you really need border-collapse? Should you bother with border-collapse? I think so! Collapsed borders render flat as a single fat line if a border-width and border-color are assigned, while separated borders render a thin line with a bunch of weird white space around it or worse render a old skool 3D raised border which is terribly ugly as well. So as a matter of course in any app my browser Reset includes the above code to make sure all tables with borders render the same flat borders. As you probably know, IE has all sorts of rendering issues in tables and on backgrounds (opacity backgrounds or image backgrounds) most of which is caused by the way that IE internally uses ActiveX filters to apply these effects. Apparently collapsed borders are yet one more item that causes problems with rendering. There you have it. Another crappy failure in IE we have to check for now, just one more reason to hate Internet Explorer. Luckily this one has a reasonably easy workaround. I hope this helps out somebody and saves them the hour I spent trying to figure out what caused this problem in the first place. • HTML + javascript mouse over, mouseout, onclick not working in firefox.

    - by help_inmssql
    Hello Everyone, My question is to get onMouseover,onMouseout,onMousedown,onClick on a table row. For which i am calling javascript userdefined functions. onMouseover --- Background color should change. onMouseout --- Reset to original color onClick --- First column checkbox/radio button should be set and background color should change onMousedown --- background color should change. My code in html is:- <tr onMouseOver="hover(this)" onMouseOut="hover_out(this)" onMouseDown="get_first_state(this)" onClick="checkit(this)" > and the methods in javascripts are:- var first_state = false; var oldcol = '#ffffff'; var oldcol_cellarray = new Array(); function hover(element) { if (! element) element = this; while (element.tagName != 'TR') { element = element.parentNode; } if (element.style.fontWeight != 'bold') { for (var i = 0; i<element.cells.length; i++) { if (element.cells[i].className != "no_hover") { oldcol_cellarray[i] = element.cells[i].style.backgroundColor; element.cells[i].style.backgroundColor='#e6f6f6'; } } } } // ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- function hover_out(element) { if (! element) element = this; while (element.tagName != 'TR') { element = element.parentNode; } if (element.style.fontWeight != 'bold') { for (var i = 0; i<element.cells.length; i++) { if (element.cells[i].className != "no_hover") { if (typeof oldcol_cellarray != undefined) { element.cells[i].style.backgroundColor=oldcol_cellarray[i]; } else { element.cells[i].style.backgroundColor='#ffffff'; } //var oldcol_cellarray = new Array(); } } } } // ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- function get_first_state(element) { while (element.tagName != 'TR') { element = element.parentNode; } first_state = element.cells[0].firstChild.checked; } // ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- function checkit (element) { while (element.tagName != 'TR') { element = element.parentNode; } if (element.cells[0].firstChild.type == 'radio') { var typ = 0; } else if (element.cells[0].firstChild.type == 'checkbox') { typ = 1; } if (element.cells[0].firstChild.checked == true && typ == 1) { if (element.cells[0].firstChild.checked == first_state) { element.cells[0].firstChild.checked = false; } set_rowstyle(element, element.cells[0].firstChild.checked); } else { if (typ == 0 || element.cells[0].firstChild.checked == first_state) { element.cells[0].firstChild.checked = true; } set_rowstyle(element, element.cells[0].firstChild.checked); } if (typ == 0) { var table = element.parentNode; if (table.tagName != "TABLE") { table = table.parentNode; } if (table.tagName == "TABLE") { table=table.tBodies[0].rows; //var table = document.getElementById("js_tb").tBodies[0].rows; for (var i = 1; i< table.length; i++) { if (table[i].cells[0].firstChild.checked == true && table[i] != element) { table[i].cells[0].firstChild.checked = false; } if (table[i].cells[0].firstChild.checked == false) { set_rowstyle(table[i], false); } } } } } function set_rowstyle(r, on) { if (on == true) { for (var i =0; i < r.cells.length; i++) { r.style.fontWeight = 'bold'; r.cells[i].style.backgroundColor = '#f2f2c2'; } } else { for ( i =0; i < r.cells.length; i++) { r.style.fontWeight = 'normal'; r.cells[i].style.backgroundColor = '#ffffff'; } } } It is working as expected in IE. But coming to firefox i am surprised on seeing the output after so much of coding. In Firefox:-- onMouseOver is working as expected. color change of that particular row. onClick -- Setting the background color permenantly..eventhough i do onmouseover on different rows. the clicked row color is not reset to white. -- not as expected onclick on 2 rows..the background of both the rows is set...not as expected i.e if i click on all the rows..background color of everything is changed... Eventhough i click on the row. First column i.e radio button or checkbox is not set.. Please help me to solve this issue in firefox. Do let me know where my code needs to be changed... Thanks in advance!!

  • Problems creating a debdiff

    - by Chris Wilson
    I'm following this guide to create a debdiff for a package I'm patching. Everything goes fine until step number 8 and I attempt to create the debdiff after committing the changes. The package in question is Zim, pulled form Launchpad using bzr branch lp:zim and according to this guide I should execute the following command to create the debdiff: debdiff zim_0.49.dsc zim_0.49ubuntu1.dsc > zim_0.49ubuntu1.debdiff however, when I actually try to execute this command, I get the following error: debdiff: fatal error at line 314: Can't read file: zim_0.49.dsc Upon inspection of the directory in which the files created from debuild -S (step 6) are deposited, I find zim_0.49ubuntu1_source.changes zim_0.49ubuntu1.dsc zim_0.49ubuntu1.tar.gz zim_0.49ubuntu1_source.build but no sign of zim_0.49.dsc. I could probably create one by debuilding the package as soon as I check out the code, before starting work, but that would add an extraneous entry in the changelog. Is there a step missing from the guide that creates zim_0.49.dsc or is the file itself missing from the source?

  • Question about how to read the Safari/Chrome developer tool result

    - by richard
    Hi, I am using the developer tool in chrome (i think it is the same as safari). I did a timeline when I load wwww.yahoo.com. I attached the screen shot: http://yfrog.com/4jpicture2yyp You see: * Send Request (http://www.yahoo.com) * Receive Response (http://www.yahoo.com) * Receive Response (http://www.yahoo.com) * Event (unload) * Function Call * Recalculate Style * Recalculate Style * Recalculate Style * Parse What I don't understand is why 'Parse' happens AFTER Function call and Recalculate Style? Shouldn't it need to parse HTML source FIRST Before it parses CSS file (I assume which triggers the 'Recalculate Style') and Java Script file (I assume which triggers the 'Function Call')

  • jQuery inserting comment help

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i am trying to learn how to insert a comment within some html code without having to refresh the page. I know jQuery is capable of inserting a comment into a div area but i am having problems finding an example like that with fading in. Here is my comment code: <div id="CommentBox122" style="width:80%; padding:2px; margin-left:25px;"> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <div id="stylized" class="myform" align="center"> <form id="CommentForm122" name="CommentForm122"> <div align="center" style="text-align:center; color:#F00; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold;">Would you like to leave a comment, Robert?</div> <textarea name="txtComment" class="box" id="txtComment"></textarea> <input name="txtpostid" type="text" id="txtpostid" style="visibility:hidden; display:none; height:0px; width:0px;" value="Demo43639" /> <div class="buttons" align="center"> <button type="button" id="Button122" name="Button122" class="positive" onclick="doStuff();"><img name="Submit" src="img\buttonimgComment.png" alt="" />Post Comment</button> </div> </form> </div> </div> The code i need to insert again would be: <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> But again, i am unable to find an example using jQuery to automatically insert that part of the code under the other "table /table" box.. So after its inserted by jQuery, the code should look like this: <div id="CommentBox122" style="width:80%; padding:2px; margin-left:25px;"> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <table width="650px" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="5" style="margin-left:20px; background-color: #F8F8F8; border-bottom:#CCC solid 1px;"><tr> <td width="10%" rowspan="2" align="center" class="Commentimage"><img src="img/avatar/gkrgimmkdhmggfh.jpg" height="60" /></td> <td width="90%" class="Commentposted">Posted by me on Saturday, May 01, 2010 @ 4:37: PM</td></tr> <tr><td class="Commentsaying">this is a test comment</td></tr> </table> <div id="stylized" class="myform" align="center"> <form id="CommentForm122" name="CommentForm122"> <div align="center" style="text-align:center; color:#F00; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold;">Would you like to leave a comment, Robert?</div> <textarea name="txtComment" class="box" id="txtComment"></textarea> <input name="txtpostid" type="text" id="txtpostid" style="visibility:hidden; display:none; height:0px; width:0px;" value="Demo43639" /> <div class="buttons" align="center"> <button type="button" id="Button122" name="Button122" class="positive" onclick="doStuff();"><img name="Submit" src="img\buttonimgComment.png" alt="" />Post Comment</button> </div> </form> </div> </div> As always, any help would be great! :o) David

  • Migrating R Scripts from Development to Production

    - by Mark Hornick
    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 “How do I move my R scripts stored in one database instance to another? I have my development/test system and want to migrate to production.” Users of Oracle R Enterprise Embedded R Execution will often store their R scripts in the R Script Repository in Oracle Database, especially when using the ORE SQL API. From previous blog posts, you may recall that Embedded R Execution enables running R scripts managed by Oracle Database using both R and SQL interfaces. In ORE 1.3.1., the SQL API requires scripts to be stored in the database and referenced by name in SQL queries. The SQL API enables seamless integration with database-based applications and ease of production deployment. Loading R scripts in the repository Before talking about migration, we’ll first introduce how users store R scripts in Oracle Database. Users can add R scripts to the repository in R using the function ore.scriptCreate, or SQL using the function sys.rqScriptCreate. For the sample R script     id <- 1:10     plot(1:100,rnorm(100),pch=21,bg="red",cex =2)     data.frame(id=id, val=id / 100) users wrap this in a function and store it in the R Script Repository with a name. In R, this looks like ore.scriptCreate("RandomRedDots", function () { line-height: 115%; font-family: "Courier New";">     id <- 1:10     plot(1:100,rnorm(100),pch=21,bg="red",cex =2)     data.frame(id=id, val=id / 100)) }) In SQL, this looks like begin sys.rqScriptCreate('RandomRedDots',  'function(){     id <- 1:10     plot(1:100,rnorm(100),pch=21,bg="red",cex =2)     data.frame(id=id, val=id / 100)   }'); end; / The R function ore.scriptDrop and SQL function sys.rqScriptDrop can be used to drop these scripts as well. Note that the system will give an error if the script name already exists. Accessing R scripts once they’ve been loaded If you’re not using a source code control system, it is possible that your R scripts can be misplaced or files modified, making what is stored in Oracle Database to only or best copy of your R code. If you’ve loaded your R scripts to the database, it is straightforward to access these scripts from the database table SYS.RQ_SCRIPTS. For example, select * from sys.rq_scripts where name='myScriptName'; From R, scripts in the repository can be loaded into the R client engine using a function similar to the following: ore.scriptLoad <- function(name) { query <- paste("select script from sys.rq_scripts where name='",name,"'",sep="") str.f <- OREbase:::.ore.dbGetQuery(query) assign(name,eval(parse(text = str.f)),pos=1) } ore.scriptLoad("myFunctionName") This function is also useful if you want to load an existing R script from the repository into another R script in the repository – think modular coding style. Just include this function in the body of the other function and load the named script. Migrating R scripts from one database instance to another To move a set of functions from one system to another, the following script loads the functions from one R script repository into the client R engine, then connects to the target database and creates the scripts there with the same names. scriptNames <- OREbase:::.ore.dbGetQuery("select name from sys.rq_scripts where name not like 'RQG$%' and name not like 'RQ$%'")$NAME for(s in scriptNames) { cat(s,"\n") ore.scriptLoad(s) } ore.disconnect() ore.connect("rquser","orcl","localhost","rquser") for(s in scriptNames) { cat(s,"\n") ore.scriptDrop(s) ore.scriptCreate(s,get(s)) } Best Practice When naming R scripts, keep in mind that the name can be up to 128 characters. As such, consider organizing scripts in a directory structure manner. For example, if an organization has multiple groups or applications sharing the same database and there are multiple components, use “/” to facilitate the function organization: line-height: 115%;">ore.scriptCreate("/org1/app1/component1/myFuntion1", myFunction1) ore.scriptCreate("/org1/app1/component1/myFuntion2", myFunction2) ore.scriptCreate("/org1/app2/component2/myFuntion2", myFunction2) ore.scriptCreate("/org2/app2/component1/myFuntion3", myFunction3) ore.scriptCreate("/org3/app2/component1/myFuntion4", myFunction4) Users can then query for all functions using the path prefix when looking up functions. /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}
