    I want to automoate some PPT - PDF conversions, so I want to run openoffice in headless mode for scripting. On my machine with X running I can start opemoffice in headless mode via soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless This doesn't seem to work on a server with X not running. $ soffice -accept="socket,port=8100;urp;" -headless /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display: Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option or check permissions of your X-Server (See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details) $ The error doesnt seem to make sense as well, as the point of specifying -headless was so that I do not need X, while this command seems to look for X.

  • Everything on hard drive suddenly vanished without explanation, but the drive seems otherwise functional

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Custom-built desktop I have a new desktop that I built a few months ago that has a four-year-old WD hard drive and a two-year-old drive. I had set it up so that the newer drive had Windows and most of my files on it while the older drive had my music library, some movies and games, and a backup of all of my documents. About a month ago, I installed some new case fans and, in the process, I temporarily unplugged my hard drive (while the computer was off of course - I took all the necessary precautions) for wire management. I plugged it back in, and didn't really think anything of it. At around that time, however, I noticed that my older hard drive wasn't showing up in Windows Explorer anymore but I didn't really have time to check into it (I had just started college) and I'm finally getting a chance to now. That drive doesn't show up in Windows Explorer at all but it does show up in Disk Management. That screen shows the following: http://puu.sh/17mMN Any idea what happened? Is there any way to recover my files? Thanks in advance for your help! EDIT: The music and games and stuff used to be on "Disc 1", the 465.71 GB of what is now showing as unallocated space.

    I am trying to run net time on a Windows 7 box with an account that is part of the Administrators group. When I run the command net time from an elevated command prompt I get the following error: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. Why is this happening? I've looked at this Microsoft Knowledge Base article and have gone through the steps. Both the computer and the DC are connected to the same NTP server and I've verified they're synced I'm working on a local account so there should be no permissions issues There is no local firewall running

    hi, looking for laptop upgrade, and thinking about SSD drive. Laptop would be Dell Studio XPS with T9400 as i can get one for a very good price. So i was thinking about replacing the built in 500 GB hdd with some kind of SDD Currently two choices: OCZ Vertex Series 60 GB vs. Intel X25-M G2 MLC 80 GB Price is almost the same. From anandtech Intel performs badly in sequential write, but scores very high numbers in random write and random read (good for visual studio?) and i get more space. What do you think? OCZ Vertex or Intel X25-M G2 ? Purely from Visual Studio 2008 and upcoming 2010 perspective?

  • OpenVPN Bridge LAN-to-LAN Configuration?

    I'm trying to configure an OpenVPN bridge LAN-to-LAN setup. Currently, I have the OpenVPN bridge Server/Client setup up running. On the server-side my br-lan interface has tap0, eth0, and wlan0 in the bridge group. On the client-side the br-lan interface has eth0 and wlan0 in the bridge group, the client tap0 is outside of the br-lan group. Currently the two bridge groups are connected via the wlanO interfaces (server-side is the Access Point - AP and the client-side is the wireless client). My goal is to connect the two bridge groups with a wireless VPN pipe. My network configuration: Server: br-lan: 10.4.96.50 Client: br-lan: 10.4.96.75 tap0: 10.4.96.100 <---- issued by the VPN server. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with using a bridge instead of a routed OpenVPN setup. My question is how (if possible) do I add the client tap0 interface to the client bridge group, as to ensure all traffic between the server/client bridge groups is using the VPN pipe?   • Citrix client slow to launch

    Was wondering if anyone else experience Citrix client to launch very slowly. While I'm a Windows SA by trade, I consider myself Novice+ on Linux, but I doubt thats the problem. This is the simple scenario: 1. Login to Citrix server to work from home 2. Click on the published application; this typically starts the local Citrix client. 3. Citrix client should start and you're off. Problem is between #2 and #3 I click on the application and 8 out of 9 times there is a 60 second delay and then I get an SSL connection error. I suspect this error is misleading since the connection took too long to open. But I dont know how to prove it (or fix it). I'm able to successfully manually launch wfcmgr without errors; so this leads me to believe Citrix client is installed correctly. I even leave it running thinking this may help, but I don't see a difference with or without this running first. The only times I'm able to connect successfully is when the Citrix client starts up a few seconds after clicking on the application. I've searched online for articles that might help, but tried a number of fixes without much difference. Even tried "ln -sf /dev/urandom /dev/random" as suggested by this article, but no dice:http://forums.citrix.com/message.jspa?messageID=1381276 My System (specs that may be relevant) Sony VAIO Laptop VGN-NW270F Linux Mint 11.04 Problem using: FireFox and Chrome Any help would be appreciated. Just trying to either find an answer or guidance on how to determine why its taking so long to launch the Citrix Client. Thanks

  • How can I make my PCI-E graphics card visible to Ubuntu when the motherboard has integrated graphics

    I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first: Integrated graphics PCI graphics PCI-Express graphics (PEG) I set the BIOS on PEG, but I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.) I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one. Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says Current usage: Unknown There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset! Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power. It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector. The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS. My question: how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?

  • Only show windows 7 Preview Pane (in explorer) when the file has a preview

    I use the preview pane often, especially with pdfs. But when selecting folders or files which don't have previews, or not even selecting anything, the preview pane stays, it's quite big, and I use lots when I have the explorer window maximised on my 1920x1080 monitor in this case it takes up about half my screen, but when I use explorer in a smaller window the preview pane shrinks the cneter folder pane and stays half the size of the window. Is there anyway to only show the preview pane when the file has a preview and then hide it again when the file doesn't or not file is selected. (btw, please don't say about alternate file browsers, as they all look ugly and complicated)

    I'm running the latest version of mediawiki using MoWeS Portable II from my desktop. I just installed this extension on the wiki http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MsUpload It adds an option to upload files (to be embedded in an article) to the edit screen of an article.     I just bought HTC Tattoo with Android 1.6 and to my disappointment, there are lots of applications that I cannot find in my market. I use AppBrain, to select and install apps but once I try to install them, there is error message that application does not exist. Same thing is when I try to install using barcode. What is going on? I guess it has something to do with my location (Europe) but I could not find note about this anywhere.

    I failed with loading ISO image (non-distro) from GRUB2 from USB stick, but found the way how I can boot the GRUB4DOS and then load the image from there. However, it doesn't work all the time and the questions is WHY it doesn't? Environment and loading process: We need to have EFI machine, USB stick, booting ISO, GRUB2 and GRUB4DOS. Last 3 on USB stick. Boot: USB - EFI loader - GRUB2 - GRUB4DOS - ISO image Configuration files To boot GRUB4DOS I use this from grub.cfg: menuentry "image.iso" { linux /syslinux/grub.exe --config-file="/menu.lst" } My menu.lst is here: timeout 20 default 0 title image.iso find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd //image.iso map --heads=0 --sectors-per-track=0 //image.iso (hd32) map --hook chainloader (hd32) This works perfectly with Legacy machines. However, when I come to GRUB4DOS, I don't see the menu with image.iso, I see only GRUB command line. That means that my menu.lst didn't load. Why is it like this? Background and ideas I have an idea that GRUB4DOS doesn't recognize my USB stick as a device. I tried the command find and got (hd0,0), (hd0,1), (hd0,2), (rd). When I tried to set root to any of these devices I don't see fat file system, how it was with Legacy machines. The root device is (hd0,0), which has ntfs file system which should be partition with Windows. EFI machines support only GRUB2, so I can't boot GRUB4DOS straight away. Please, don't suggest anything like this, because my image doesn't have kernel.   • Outlook errors and blank address book?

    I have a user with a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit. Office 2010 was installed also. Everything worked great until we installed Adobe Pro 9 and Wordperfect 12. (for outlook we are not using exchange). Then Outlook popped an error saying could not start Outlook. I then modified it to run in compatibility mode and Outlook starts. Then took compatibility mode off and outlook continues to start without difficulty. However, her address book went blank (contacts are all there). In the properties of the contact folder it is checked (and grayed out) to include this folder in the address book, and the Outlook address book is listed when I look at account properties. I tried creating a new profile to no avail. I tried creating a new profile and creating a new pst file - to no avail. I tried uninstalling office, removing the folders inside roaming and local, reinstalled office; got the same could not start Outlook error - did the compatibility mode bit and got it to start - but the Address book continues to be empty. Has anyone run across this before? I'm thinking that there must be some other preferences type folder other than those in Roaming and Local since her signature remained when I reinstalled Office.

  • cannot connect to Apache web server through hamachi

    we are running an apache web server in the office. Hamachi clients are installed on the server and on the other PC's. We can ping and browse each other but cannot view the web server through Hamachi. have disabled the firewalls on the server as well as on the PC's. I have added an apache program exception in the firewall on the server, but surely this is not needed if I disable the firewall? I would be really grateful if someone could help!
