    One of the things that I have been pestering the SQL team to do is to name their updates according to what is contained in them. For example, instead of just: sqlncli.msi What I'd prefer is that the file was called something like: SQLServerNativeClient2k8SP1CU3x64.msi So I normally rename them as soon as I receive them, to avoid confusion in future.     i was tryin to connect my ubuntu toshiba satalite L650 laptop with my desktop via a network cable so that i can share things and remotely control the desktop from the laptop, i googled the problem out and found a guide page , i followed all the steps , i installed samba, i had the two computer have the same workgroup name , i had everything correct, but i still dont see connection estbalished between the two computers, (neither one is visible to the other) what is missing ? thanx in advance.

    Hi, I'm using a network file system (AFS) and I would like to also mount it into my schroot. Adding a line to /etc/schroot/mount-defaults, with bind or rbind in the options didn't help: schroot always mounts the directory with bind, and it remains empty in the chroot. My current solution is a script that remounts the /afs directory with rbind after the schroot has been set up. Is there a way to make schroot use rbind directly?

  • Upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 Failed due to network troubles

    Every time I try and upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 it keeps telling me that there are network problems. Is this a problem on "the other" side? My upgrade got through downloading half the packages last night but then went into sleep and then failed. Could it have something to do with that?     Hi, I've troubles setting up Edimax EW-7206APg as a Universal Repeater. I've read few manuals, but they are unclear on certain points. I've managed the repeater to get to a state when it's in a "connected" state. I've set the same WPA passphrase as the router has because I haven't seen any other place to set it at.   • Can't connect to LAN when connected to D-Link DIR-615

    I'm have a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N 300 Router. I didn't use the CD it comes with to set up the network. Instead I configured it manually through the router's settings that are accessed via a web browser. The main changes I made are: Secured the router so that a password is required before clients can use the wireless internet. Broadcasting 802.11N only (not B or G). I can connect to the router just fine and I'm able to access the internet. The only problem is that I don't see any of the other computers in my LAN. When I try connecting to another Wi-Fi router that I have (which is connected to the same network), I can see all of the computer's on my LAN just fine. Therefore, I'm guessing that the reason I can't connect to the LAN is not a problem with my computer and is a problem with the router instead. I'm on a MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.6. I tried contacting D-Link technical support, but they only try to help you if you have problems connecting to the internet. They aren't really concerned with problems that have to do with the accessing PC's on the same network.

  • Looking for software to create a personal hotspot on Mac OS X (not using the built-in ability)

    I got my nifty little MacBook Air today. Since I will be going on travel I was hoping to use my iPad 3G as screen extension with Air Display. It works being in a shared WiFi network. Sadly Apple is a bit restrictive on the tethering with their mobile devices such as the iPad. Now I read iOS 4.3 will enable the iPad to use tethered networks. But the feature will not be working for iPad 3G. I assume their big partner telecom companies fear everyone will quit their internet contract with them. So I want to create a personal hotspot on my MacBook and use it on my iPad. But the iPad is not able to use this network. The network is visible but not usable. On Windows there is this connectify program which lets the PC act as wireless router. Does anybody know a similar program for Mac which would turn it into a wireless router? Or is there something I don't see with Mac OS X's builtin features?

  • Online computer not responding to pings

    I was doing a bit of scanning on my network lately, knew all the hostnames to each computer connected. But whilst pinging one of them ping returned Request timed out.. This is strange as I know the computer is online and that the computer responds correctly to pinging on a different (enterprise) network. Is there something on the computer, my network, or my computer that is bugging with this? - That's just a sub-question, I don't expect this to be the main answer. The real question: Why does this happen? Why does pinging the IP4 address not work? EDIT : Pinging the Hostname used to default to the IP4 address, but now it defaults to the IP6 address. Why does this happen? But now that it pings using IP6, how come it all of a sudden works? > ping -6 THE_COMPUTER Pinging THE_COMPUTER [lengthy IP6 address] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from [lengthy IP6 address]: time=1ms Reply from [lengthy IP6 address]: time=1ms Reply from [lengthy IP6 address]: time=1ms Reply from [lengthy IP6 address]: time=1ms Ping stats: Sent = 4, Recieved = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss) But when this is done using IP4 it doesn't work.     I'm trying to set up a Linux machine as the server and a Windows XP machine as the client. Both machines are connected to the same local network via a Wi-Fi router.
