  Hi all, I have a link: <a id="nextBut" href="somelink" class="button"><span>Next Step</span></a> And I can control the the <span>Next step</span> part with innerHTML but how could I leave the <span> alone and just change the 'Next step' part?   I want to trigger event just right after I stop typing (not while typing) characters in my input textbox. On this fiddle I demonstrate the same problem with a simple alert instead of an AJAX. Is there a solution for this or I'm just using a bad approach for this?

• Convert String containing several numbers into integers

  I realize that this question may have been asked several times in the past, but I am going to continue regardless. I have a program that is going to get a string of numbers from keyboard input. The numbers will always be in the form "66 33 9" Essentially, every number is separated with a space, and the user input will always contain a different amount of numbers. I'm aware that using 'sscanf' would work if the amount of numbers in every user-entered string was constant, but this is not the case for me. Also, because I'm new to C++, I'd prefer dealing with 'string' variables rather than arrays of chars.

  Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

  I am developing a simple application where in we have predefined quotas on usage for each user on the system.. and if the quota is up..the system should logoff of the user account.. this will happen if the application is allowed to run.. but if the user is closing the application on his own ..the app should automaticaly logoff the account.. i did exactly that in writing forced logoff code in form-closing event.. but if we are closing the app/process using the taskmanager.. the form closing event is not being called. and so the user is able to continue even if his quota of time is up.. can anybody helpme out with this..

  Hello, I've seen in this topic (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/37586/consuming-web-services-from-oracle-pl-sql) that it's possible to modify the soap_api package from oracle (http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/9i/ConsumingWebServices9i.php) to :"extended the SOAP_API package to allow the client code to arbitrarily insert an extra tag. So you can insert a sub-level such as , continue to build the request, and remember to insert a closing tag". I'm interrested for this application. Do you know if this package exists ?   We are tasked with migrating an existing set of entities (currently POCOs persisted with NHibernate against an MSSQL database) to now persist to some kind of web service (yet to be built, either RESTful or SOAP-based, and that we control). I like how NHibernate encapsulates the persistence concerns and lets us maintain a logic-rich, persistence-agnostic domain model. Is there any way to make NHibernate talk to a web service at the back end instead of a SQL database directly? In other words, can "service instead of SQL database" be treated as a persistence implementation detail and allow us to continue to use NHibernate? Am I asking the right question? :)

• Changing window focus on OS X

  As part of an InstallationCheck script on OS X I need to use finder dialogs to let the user browse for files. When I'm done I want to move the installer application up front again so that the user can easily continue with the installation. I have already tried the simple: tell application "Installer" to activate This does not work because as long as I am inside the script the Installer application is unresponsive and when i try to activate it the applescript will try to wait until Installer responds, effectively locking the program until the InstallationCheck script times out. So basically I need a way to focus an application that works even if it is currently unresponsive. Is there any way to do this either from an applescript or directly from the perl script?

  In a folder, I have both my .m file that contains the script and an imaging .dcm file that needs to be analyzed. Folder structure: Folder1/analysis.m Folder1/meas_dynamic_123.dcm My script (analysis.m) begins as follows: target =''; <== here should go the full path to the file + filename example: /Volumes/Data/Folder1/meas_dynamic_123.m txt = dir(target); // etc So I'm wondering if there is a way of when running analysis.m it will: automatically search the folder it's in, grab the full path + filename of file containing string dynamic in the name, insert its full path + name into target variable continue running the script Does anyone have any pointers on how to achieve this? • PHP: How do I access child properties from a method in a base object?

  I'd like for all of my objects to be able to return a JSON string of themselves. So I created a base class for all of my objects to extend, with an AsJSON() method: class BaseObject { public function AsJSON() { $JSON=array(); foreach ($this as $key = $value) { if(is_null($value)) continue; $JSON[$key] = $value; } return json_encode($JSON); } } And then extend my child classes from that: class Package extends BaseObject { ... } So in my code, I expect to do this: $Box = new Package; $Box-SetID('123'); $Box-SetName('12x8x6'); $Box-SetBoxX('12'); $Box-SetBoxY('8'); $Box-SetBoxZ('6'); echo $Box-AsJSON(); But the JSON string it returns only contains the BaseClass's properties, not the child properties. How do I modify my AsJSON() function so that $this refers to the child's properties, not the parent's?

• Is there anything wrong with taking immediate actions in constructors?

  I have classes like this one: class SomeObject { public function __construct($param1, $param2) { $this->process($param1, $param2); } ... } So I can instantly "call" it as some sort of global function just like new SomeObject($arg1, $arg2); which has the benefits of staying concise, being easy to understand, but might break unwritten rules of semantics by not waiting till a method is called. Should I continue to feel bad because of a bad practice, or there's really nothing to worry about? Clarification: I do want an instance of the class. I do use internal methods of the class only. I initialize the object in the constructor, but call the "important" action-taker methods too. I am selfish in the light of these sentences.

• How should I deal with sqlite errors?

  I have a long running application written in a mix of C and C++ that stores data in sqlite. While I am confident that committed data will remain available (barring mechanical failure) and uncommitted data will not be, it's not clear to me what I can do with this sort of middle state. I do a large number of inserts in a transaction and then commit it. When an error occurs on a given statement, I can schedule it to be attempted at some point in the future. It sounds like some errors might implicitly rollback my transaction (which would be undesirable if true). A larger problem is what happens when my commit itself fails. Currently, I'm just going to continue to retry it until it works. I would expect that whatever would cause my commit to fail may very well also cause a rollback to fail. What is the recommended mechanism for error handling in such a situation?

  I've recently become one of the most senior developers in one division of the company, and am generally the 'go-to' guy about questions in the problem domain the division works in, however I feel I'm not learning anything new. To continue to learn new things I would have to change division and work on something competely different, but then my current domain knowledge would be useless & I would start off with knowing nothing again. Obviously, this is quite a large decision & I'm hesitant to lost my 'status'; and the knowledge I do have would be useless. How do you know when you should change the programming domain you work in?

• Raising hard limit on RLIMIT_NOFILE system-wide on Linux

  We need to raise RLIMIT_NOFILE when running memcached, as we're hitting the default hard limit (1024). However, raising a hard limit requires root, and for various reasons we don't want to have to run memcached or its containing shell as root. Right now we happily run it as a non-root user. Is there a way to raise the hard limit for RLIMIT_NOFILE system-wide, so that we can continue to run memcached as non-root and simply raise the soft limit? This is RedHat Linux with 2.6 kernel. • background music stops after 3/4 runs in iphone app

  I am playing sounds in loop in my app. So it should continue playing through out the app. but sometimes it stops after playing sound for 3/4 times.I don't understand whats happening. I am using audio-toolbox framework for playing sound. creating audio queue and then playing sounds in loop. I am also playing sound from ipod library using mediaplayer. Same thing happening with song from ipod. I have set [musicPlayer setRepeatMode: MPMusicRepeatModeOne]; but still it stops after 3/4 times.

• bundle install fails with SSL certificate verification error

  When I run bundle install for my Rails 3 project on Centos 5.5 it fails with an error: Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError: SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed (https://bb-m.rubygems.org/gems/multi_json-1.3.2.gem) An error occured while installing multi_json (1.3.2), and Bundler cannot continue. Make sure that `gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2'` succeeds before bundling. When I try to install the gem manually (by gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2') it works. The same problem occurs with several other gems. I use RVM (1.12.3), ruby 1.9.2, bundler 1.1.3. How to fix it?

  My program frequently stops with a deadlock. When I do a break-all and look at the threads I see that three threads are stuck in our logging function: public class Logging { public static void WriteClientLog(LogLevel logLevel, string message) { #if DEBUG System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(String.Format("{0} {1}", DateTime.Now.ToString("HH:mm:ss"), message)); //LOCK #endif //...Log4net logging } } If I let the program continue the threads are still stuck on that line. I can't see where this can lock. The debug class, string class & datetime class seem to be thread safe. The error goes away when I remove the "#if DEBUG System... #endif" code but I'm curious why this behavior happens. • How to load the whole content of a page into another window?

  I'm building a Dashboard and for some stupid reasons my boss wants to load it in a frame on the homepage (yes a frame, he still lives in the 1990s). Anyway, sometimes the dashboard needs some room so that it can show all charts correctly, so I want to add a feature to load the content of the dashboard into a new window. The problem is that, if the user has had some interaction with the dashboard, it will contain modal dialogs, new images, etc... so I want to load all the dashboard content into a new window without reloading its content. Of course, the user should be able to continue browsing the dashboard without problems. How can I do that? I'm using jQuery as my JavaScript framework.

• Should I still use querystrings for page number, etc, when using ASP.NET 4 URL Routing?

  I am switching from Intelligencia's UrlRewriter to the new web forms routing in ASP.NET 4.0. I have it working great for basic pages, however, in my e-commerce site, when browsing category pages, I previously used querystrings that were built into my pager control to control paging. An old url (with UrlRewriting) would be: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17 I now have a MapPageRoute defined in global.asax as: routes.MapPageRoute("category-browse", "Category/{name}_{id}", ~/CategoryPage.aspx"); This works great. Now, somebody clicks to go to page 2. Previously I would have just tacked on ?page=2 as the querystring. Now, How do I handle this using web forms routing? I know I can do something like: http://www.mysite.com/Category/Arts-and-Crafts_17/page/2 But in addition to page, I can have filters, age ranges, gender, etc. Should I just keep defining routes that handle these variables, or should I continue using querystrings and can I define a route that allows me to use my querstrings like before?

• Maintaining Logging and/or stdout/stderr in Python Daemon

  Every recipe that I've found for creating a daemon process in Python involves forking twice (for Unix) and then closing all open file descriptors. (See http://www.jejik.com/articles/2007/02/a_simple_unix_linux_daemon_in_python/ for an example). This is all simple enough but I seem to have an issue. On the production machine that I am setting up, my daemon is aborting - silently since all open file descriptors were closed. I am having a tricky time debugging the issue currently and am wondering what the proper way to catch and log these errors are. What is the right way to setup logging such that it continues to work after daemonizing? Do I just call logging.basicConfig() a second time after daemonizing? What's the right way to capture stdout and stderr? I am fuzzy on the details of why all the files are closed. Ideally, my main code could just call daemon_start(pid_file) and logging would continue to work.
