  • Visual Studio 2010 - service pack 1

    - by Jinath Sanjitha
    Hi, Does anybody knows when will Microsoft release (in their plans or in roadmaps) a 'service pack' for Visual Studio 2010. I know it's too early to ask, but my client requires a stable release of VS 2010 + .Net 4.0 before going into development of his project. Thanks.

  • CoreData : App crashes when deleting last instance created

    - by Leo
    Hello, I have a 2 tabs application. In the first one, I'm creating objects of the "Sample" and "SampleList" entities. Each sampleList contains an ID and a set of samples. Each sample contains a date and temperature property. In the second tab, I'm displaying my data in a tableView. I implemented the - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView commitEditingStyle:(UITableViewCellEditingStyle)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath method in order to delete SampleLists. In my xcdatamodel the delete rule for my relationship between SampleList and Sample is Cascade. My problem is that when I try to delete SampleList I just created, the app crashes and I receive a EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal. If I restart it, then I'm able to delete "old" sampleList without any problems. Earlier, I had the following problem : I couldn't display the the sampleLists I created since I launched the app, because it crashed too. I received also the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal. Actually, it seemed that the date of the last sample created of the set was nil. If I am not releasing the NSDate I'm using to set the sample's date, I don't have this problem anymore... If anyone could help me to find out what could cause my troubles it would be great !! Here is the method I'm using to create new instances : SampleList *newSampleList = (SampleList *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"SampleList" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [newSampleList setPatchID:patchID]; NSMutableSet *newSampleSet = [[NSMutableSet alloc] init]; NSCalendar *gregorian = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSGregorianCalendar]; for (int i = 0; i < [byteArray count]; i=i+4, sampleCount++) { NSDateComponents *comps = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; [comps setYear:year]; [comps setMonth:month]; [comps setDay:day]; [comps setHour:hours]; [comps setMinute:minutes]; NSDate *sampleDate = [gregorian dateFromComponents:comps]; Sample *newSample = (Sample *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Sample" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [newSample setSampleDate:sampleDate]; [newSample setSampleTemperature:[NSNumber numberWithInt:temperature]]; [newSampleSet addObject:newSample]; [comps release]; //[sampleDate release]; } [newSampleList setSampleSet:newSampleSet]; // [newSampleSet release]; NSError *error; if (![managedObjectContext save:&error]) { NSLog(@"Could not Save the context !!"); } [gregorian release];

  • What .gitignore I should use with QT projects? (QT Creator)

    So, after little thinking I have wrote the following: # In repository we don't need to have: # Compiled object files *.o # Generated MOC, resource and UI files moc_*.cpp qrc_*.cpp ui_*.h # Built windows .exe and linux binaries # NOTE: PROJECT is a your project's name, analog of PROJECT.exe in Linux *.exe *.dll PROJECT # Windows-specific files Thumbs.db desktop.ini # Editors temporary files *~ # Debug and Release directories (created under Windows, not Linux) Debug/ Release/ Please ask, what needs to be added or fixed (especially for Windows - I haven't one under hand now. And Mac too [haven't work in it at all]). I want to keep my repository clear :-)

  • If array is thread safe, what the issue with this function?

    - by Ajay Sharma
    I am totally lost with the things that is happening with my code.It make me to think & get clear with Array's thread Safe concept. Is NSMutableArray OR NSMutableDictionary Thread Safe ? While my code is under execution, the values for the MainArray get's changes although, that has been added to Array. Please try to execute this code, onyour system its very much easy.I am not able to get out of this Trap. It is the function where it is returning Array. What I am Looking to do is : -(Array) (Main Array) --(Dictionary) with Key Value (Multiple Dictionary in Main Array) ----- Above dictionary has 9 Arrays in it. This is the structure I am developing for Array.But even before #define TILE_ROWS 3 #define TILE_COLUMNS 3 #define TILE_COUNT (TILE_ROWS * TILE_COLUMNS) -(NSArray *)FillDataInArray:(int)counter { NSMutableArray *temprecord = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for(int i = 0; i <counter;i++) { if([temprecord count]<=TILE_COUNT) { NSMutableDictionary *d1 = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]init]; [d1 setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d/2011",i+1] forKey:@"serial_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Friday 13 Sep 12:00 AM" forKey:@"date_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Description Details " forKey:@"details_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Subject Line" forKey:@"subject_data"]; [temprecord addObject:d1]; d1= nil; [d1 release]; if([temprecord count]==TILE_COUNT) { NSMutableDictionary *holderKey = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]initWithObjectsAndKeys:temprecord,[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",[casesListArray count]+1],nil]; [self.casesListArray addObject:holderKey]; [holderKey release]; holderKey =nil; [temprecord removeAllObjects]; } } else { [temprecord removeAllObjects]; NSMutableDictionary *d1 = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]init]; [d1 setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d/2011",i+1] forKey:@"serial_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Friday 13 Sep 12:00 AM" forKey:@"date_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Description Details " forKey:@"details_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Subject Line" forKey:@"subject_data"]; [temprecord addObject:d1]; d1= nil; [d1 release]; } } return temprecord; [temprecord release]; } What is the problem with this Code ? Every time there are 9 records in Array, it just replaces the whole Array value instead of just for specific key Value.

  • Few iPhone noob questions

    - by mshsayem
    Why should I declare local variables as 'static' inside a method? Like: static NSString *cellIdentifier = @"Cell"; Is it a performance advantage? (I know what 'static' does; in C context) What does this syntax mean?[someObj release], someObj = nil; Two statements? Why should I assign nil again? Is not 'release' enough? Should I do it for all objects I allocate/own? Or for just view objects? Why does everyone copy NSString, but retains other objects (in property declaration)? Yes, NSStrings can be changed, but other objects can be changed also, right? Then why 'copy' for just NSString, not for all? Is it just a defensive convention? Shouldn't I release constant NSString? Like here:NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; Why not? Does the compiler allocate/deallocate it for me? In some tutorial application I observed these (Built with IB): Properties(IBOutlet, with same ivar name): window, someLabel, someTextField, etc etc... In the dealloc method, although the window ivar was released, others were not. My question is: WHY? Shouldn't I release other ivars(labels, textField) as well? Why not? Say, I have 3 cascaded drop-down lists. I mean, based on what is selected on the first list, 2nd list is populated and based on what is selected on the second list, 3rd list is populated. What UI components can reflect this best? How is drop-down list presented in iPhone UI? Tableview with UIPicker? When should I update the 2nd, 3rd list? Or just three labels which have touch events? Can you give me some good example tutorials about Core-Data? (Not just simple data fetching and storing on 2/3 tables with 1/2 relationship) How can I know whether my app is leaking memory? Any tools?

  • How do I stack images to simulate depth using Core Animation?

    - by Jeffrey Berthiaume
    I have a series of UIImages with which I need to simulate depth. I can't use scaling because I need to be able to rotate the parent view, and the images should look like they're stacked visibly in front of each other, not on the same plane. I made a new ViewController-based project and put this in the viewDidLoad (as well as attached three 120x120 pixel images named 1.png, 2.png, and 3.png): - (void)viewDidLoad { // display image 3 UIImageView *three = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"3.png"]]; three.center = CGPointMake(160 + 60, 240 - 60); [self.view addSubview:three]; // rotate image 3 around the z axis // THIS IS INCORRECT CATransform3D theTransform = three.layer.transform; theTransform.m34 = 1.0 / -1000; three.layer.transform = theTransform; // display image 2 UIImageView *two = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"2.png"]]; two.center = CGPointMake(160, 240); [self.view addSubview:two]; // display image 1 UIImageView *one = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"1.png"]]; one.center = CGPointMake(160 - 60, 240 + 60); [self.view addSubview:one]; // rotate image 3 around the z axis // THIS IS INCORRECT theTransform = one.layer.transform; theTransform.m34 = 1.0 / 1000; one.layer.transform = theTransform; // release the images [one release]; [two release]; [three release]; // rotate the parent view around the y axis theTransform = self.view.layer.transform; theTransform.m14 = 1.0 / -500; self.view.layer.transform = theTransform; [super viewDidLoad]; } I have very specific reasons why I'm not using an EAGLView and why I'm not loading the images as CALayers (i.e. why I'm using UIImageViews for each one). This is just a quick demo that I can use to work out exactly what I need in my parent application. Is there some matrix way to translate these 2d images along the z-axis so they will look like what I'm trying to represent? I've gone through the other StackOverflow articles as well as the Wikipedia references, and have not found what I'm looking for -- although I might not necessarily be using the right terms for what I'm trying to do.

  • dealloc properties with assign and readwrite objective-c

    - by okami
    I have this structure: @interface MyList : NSObject { NSString* operation; NSString* link; } @property (readwrite) NSString* operation; @property (readwrite, assign) NSString* link; @end @implementation MyList @synthesize operation,link; @end I know that if I had retain instead of readwrite I should release the operation and link properties. BUT should I release the operation and link with the code above?

  • java web application best practices

    - by Bruce
    Hi all I'm trying to figure out the optimum way to develop and release a fairly simple web application, and I'm running into several problems. I'll outline the decisions I've made, because somewhere I've clearly gone off the rails.. Hugely grateful for any help! I have what I think is a fairly simple web application. It contains a couple of jsps that reference a couple of java beans, and the usual static html, js, css and images. Decision 1) I wanted to have a clear and clean release procedure, such that I could develop on my local machine and then release reliably to a production machine. I therefore made the decision to package the application into a war file (including all the static resources), to minimize the separate bits and pieces I would need to release. So far so good? Decision 2) I wanted things on my local machine to be as similar as possible to the production environment. So in my html, for example, I may have a reference to a static file such as http://static.foo.com/file . To keep this code working seamlessly on dev and prod, I decided to put static.foo.com in my /etc/hosts when developing locally, so that all the urls work correctly without changing anything. Decision 3) I decided to use eclipse and maven to give me a best practice environment for administering and building my project. So I have a nice tight set up now, except that: Every time I want to change anything in development, like one line in an html file, I have to rebuild the entire project and then wait for tomcat to load the war before I can see if it's what I wanted. So my questions are: 1) Is there a way to connect up eclipse and tomcat so that I don't have to rebuild the war each time? ie tomcat is looking straight at my actual workspace to serve up the static files? 2)I think I'm maybe making things harder by using /etc/hosts to reflect production urls - is there a better way that doesn't involve manually changing over urls (relative urls are fine of course, but where you have many subdomains, say one for static files and one for dynamic, you have to write out the full path, surely?) 3) Is this really best practice?? How do people set things up so that they balance the requirement for an automated, all-encompassing build process on the one hand, and the speed and flexibility to be able to develop javascript and html and css quickly, as quickly as if one just pointed apache at the directory and developed live? What do people find works? Many thanks!

  • Back out plan for a Web App

    - by nobody
    We need a back out plan for a web app whose first maintenance release is going to production soon. The issue we are facing is even if we back out new EAR and deploy old one , the data which was keyed in using new release would not support old business rules(current), since there is enormous changes in business rules. Can you suggest how do we tackle this issue?

  • How to apply changes without access to svn server

    - by JoelFan
    We are using svn for development of a large web application, and we do periodic updates to production. The production server does not have access to svn (for security reasons). What is the best way to push the changes since the last production release for a new release? We would like to avoid re-creating the whole site each time, since it is very large.

  • Saving data in custom class via AppDelegate

    - by redspike
    I can't seem to save data to a custom instance object in my AppDelegate. My custom class is very simple and is as follows: Person.h ... @interface Person : NSObject { int _age; } - (void) setAge: (int) age; - (int) age; @end Person.m #import "Person.h" @implementation Person - (void) setAge:(int) age { _age = age; } - (int) age { return _age; } @end I then create an instance of Person in the AppDelegate class: AppDelegate.h @class Person; @interface AccuTaxAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { ... Person *person; } ... @property (nonatomic, retain) Person *person; @end AppDelegate.m ... #import "Person.h" @implementation AccuTaxAppDelegate ... @synthesize person; - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { // Save data if appropriate } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Memory management - (void)dealloc { [navigationController release]; [window release]; [person release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Finally, in my ViewController code I grab a handle on AppDelegate and then grab the person instance, but when I try to save the age it doesn't seem to work: MyViewController ... - (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField { NSString *textAge = [textField text]; int age = [textAge intValue]; NSLog(@"Age from text field::%i", age); AppDelegate *appDelegate = (AppDelegate *)[UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate; Person *myPerson = (Person *)[appDelegate person]; NSLog(@"Age before setting: %i", [myPerson age]); [myPerson setAge:age]; NSLog(@"Age after setting: %i", [myPerson age]); [textAge release]; } ... The output of the above NSLogs are: [Session started at 2010-05-04 18:29:22 +0100.] 2010-05-04 18:29:28.260 AccuTax[16235:207] Age in text field:25 2010-05-04 18:29:28.262 AccuTax[16235:207] Age before setting: 0 2010-05-04 18:29:28.263 AccuTax[16235:207] Age after setting: 0 Any ideas why 'age' isn't being stored? I'm relatively new to Obj-C so please forgive me if I'm missing something very simple!

  • How can I check the content of the arrays? Parsing XML file with ObjectiveC

    - by skiria
    I have 3 classes- video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined- NSMutableArray categories; I parse an XML file with this code. I try the arrays hierachy, and i think that i don't add any object on the arrays. How can I check it? What's wrong? (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict { if([elementName isEqualToString:@"Videos"]) { //Initialize the array. appDelegate.categories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } else if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"Category"]) { aCategory = [[Category alloc] init]; aCategory.categoryID = [[attributeDict objectForKey:@"id"] integerValue]; NSLog(@"Reading id category value: %i", aCategory.categoryID); } else if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"Topic"]) { aTopic = [[Topic alloc] init]; aTopic.topicID = [[attributeDict objectForKey:@"id"] integerValue]; NSLog(@"Reading id topic value: %i", aTopic.topicID); } else if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"video"]) { aVideo = [[Video alloc] init]; aVideo.videoID = [[attributeDict objectForKey:@"id"] integerValue]; aVideo.nameTopic = currentNameTopic; aVideo.nameCategory = currentNameCategory; NSLog(@"Reading id video value: %i", aVideo.videoID); } NSLog(@"Processing Element: %@", elementName); } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string { if(!currentElementValue) currentElementValue = [[NSMutableString alloc] initWithString:string]; else [currentElementValue appendString:string]; NSLog(@"Processing Value: %@", currentElementValue); } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName { if([elementName isEqualToString:@"Videos"]) return; if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"Category"]) { [appDelegate.categories addObject:aCategory]; [aCategory release]; aCategory = nil; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"Topic"]) { [aCategory.topics addObject:aTopic]; //NSLog(@"contador: %i", [aCategory.topics count]); //NSLog(@"contador: %@", aTopic.nameTopic); [aTopic release]; aTopic = nil; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"video"]) { [aTopic.videos addObject:aVideo]; NSLog(@"count number videos: %i", [aTopic.videos count]); -- always 0 NSLog(@"NOM CATEGORIA VIDEO: %@", aVideo.urlVideo); -- OK [aVideo release]; aVideo = nil; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"nameCategory"]) { //[aCategory setValue:currentElementValue forKey:elementName]; aCategory.nameCategory = currentElementValue; currentNameCategory = currentElementValue; } if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"nameTopic"]) { aTopic.nameTopic = currentElementValue; currentNameTopic = currentElementValue; } else [aVideo setValue:currentElementValue forKey:elementName]; [currentElementValue release]; currentElementValue = nil; }

  • FileStream to save file then immediately unlock in .NET ?

    I have this code that saves a pdf file. FileStream fs = new FileStream(SaveLocation, FileMode.Create); fs.Write(result.DocumentBytes, 0, result.DocumentBytes.Length); fs.Flush(); fs.Close(); It works fine. However sometimes it does not release the lock right away and that causes file locking exceptions with functions run after this one run. Is there a ideal way to release the file lock right after the fs.Close()

  • Programatically created UITableViewCell subclass only working on highlight

    - by squarefrog
    I've created a subclass of UITableViewCell but I'm struggling to get it to work properly. If I use UITableViewStyleDefault then the class only works when highlighted. If I use UITableViewStyleValue1 then it mostly works but I'm unable to change label fonts much. I tried researching but it seems everyone is doing this via a .xib file, but not programatically. Implementation file #import "ASCustomCellWithCount.h" @implementation ASCustomCellWithCount @synthesize primaryLabel,secondaryLabel,contentCountImage,contentCount; - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyle)style reuseIdentifier:(NSString *)reuseIdentifier { self = [super initWithStyle:style reuseIdentifier:reuseIdentifier]; if (self) { // Initialization code contentCountImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed: @"tableCount.png"] ]; primaryLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init]; primaryLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; primaryLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; primaryLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize: 20]; primaryLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; secondaryLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init]; secondaryLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; secondaryLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; secondaryLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize: 8]; secondaryLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; contentCount = [[UILabel alloc] init]; contentCount.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; contentCount.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize: 15]; contentCount.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; contentCount.shadowColor = [UIColor blackColor]; contentCount.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(1, 1); contentCount.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [self.contentView addSubview: contentCountImage]; [self.contentView addSubview: primaryLabel]; [self.contentView addSubview: secondaryLabel]; [self.contentView addSubview: contentCount]; } return self; } - (void)layoutSubviews { [super layoutSubviews]; CGRect contentRect = self.contentView.bounds; // CGFloat boundsX = contentRect.origin.x; primaryLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0 ,0, 200, 25); secondaryLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0, 30, 100, 15); contentCount.frame = CGRectMake(contentRect.size.width - 48, contentRect.size.height / 2 - 13, 36, 24); contentCountImage.frame = CGRectMake(contentRect.size.width - 48, contentRect.size.height / 2 - 12, 36, 24); } - (void)setSelected:(BOOL)selected animated:(BOOL)animated { [super setSelected:selected animated:animated]; // Configure the view for the selected state } - (void)dealloc { [primaryLabel release]; [secondaryLabel release]; [contentCountImage release]; [contentCount release]; } @end And then to create the cell I use - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; ASCustomCellWithCount *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[ASCustomCellWithCount alloc] initWithStyle: UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [tempArray objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]]; cell.contentCount.text = @"49"; return cell; }

  • How to replace an object in an NSMutableArray at a given index with a new object

    - by shakeelw
    Hi guys. I have an NSMutableArray object(retained, synthesized as all) that is initiated just fine and I can easily add objects to it using the 'addObject:' method. But if I want to replace an object at a certain index with a new one in that NSMutableArray, it doesn't work. For example: ClassA.h @interface ClassA : NSObject { NSMutableArray *list; } @property (nonatomic, copy, readwrite) NSMutableArray *list; end ClassA.m import "ClassA.h" @implementation ClassA @synthesize list; (id)init { [super init]; NSMutableArray *localList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; self.list = localList; [localList release]; //Add initial data [list addObject:@"Hello "]; [list addObject:@"World"]; } // Custom set accessor to ensure the new list is mutable (void)setList:(NSMutableArray *)newList { if (list != newList) { [list release]; list = [newList mutableCopy]; } } -(void)updateTitle:(NSString *)newTitle:(NSString *)theIndex { int i = [theIndex intValue]-1; [self.list replaceObjectAtIndex:i withObject:newTitle]; NSLog((NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:i]); // gives the correct output } However, the change remains true only inside the method. from any other method, the NSLog((NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:i]); gives the same old value. How can I actually get the old object replaced with the new one at a specific index so that the change can be noticed from within any other method as well. I even modified the method like this, but the result is the same: -(void)updateTitle:(NSString *)newTitle:(NSString *)theIndex { int i = [theIndex intValue]-1; NSMutableArray *localList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; localList = [localList mutableCopy]; for(int j = 0; j < [list count]; j++) { if(j == i) { [localList addObject:newTitle]; NSLog(@"j == 1"); NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", j]); } else { [localList addObject:(NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:j]]; } } [self.list release]; //self.list = [localList mutableCopy]; [self setList:localList]; [localList release]; } Please help out guys :)

  • Make sense of Notification Watcher source objective-c

    - by Chris
    From Notification Watcher source. - (void)selectNotification:(NSNotification*)aNotification { id sender = [aNotification object]; [selectedDistNotification release]; selectedDistNotification = nil; [selectedWSNotification release]; selectedWSNotification = nil; NSNotification **targetVar; NSArray **targetList; if (sender == distNotificationList) { targetVar = &selectedDistNotification; targetList = &distNotifications; } else { targetVar = &selectedWSNotification; targetList = &wsNotifications; } if ([sender selectedRow] != -1) { [*targetVar autorelease]; *targetVar = [[*targetList objectAtIndex:[sender selectedRow]] retain]; } if (*targetVar == nil) { [objectText setStringValue:@""]; } else { id obj = [*targetVar object]; NSMutableAttributedString *objStr = nil; if (obj == nil) { NSFont *aFont = [objectText font]; NSDictionary *attrDict = italicAttributesForFont(aFont); objStr = [[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString:@"(null)" attributes:attrDict]; } else { /* Line 1 */ objStr = [[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString: [NSString stringWithFormat:@" (%@)", [obj className]]]; [objStr addAttributes:italicAttributesForFont([objectText font]) range:NSMakeRange(1,[[obj className] length]+2)]; if ([obj isKindOfClass:[NSString class]]) { [objStr replaceCharactersInRange:NSMakeRange(0,0) withString:obj]; } else if ([obj respondsToSelector:@selector(stringValue)]) { [objStr replaceCharactersInRange:NSMakeRange(0,0) withString:[obj performSelector:@selector(stringValue)]]; } else { // Remove the space since we have no value to display [objStr replaceCharactersInRange:NSMakeRange(0,1) withString:@""]; } } [objectText setObjectValue:objStr]; /* LINE 2 */ [objStr release]; } [userInfoList reloadData]; } Over at //LINE 2 objStr is being released. Is this because we are assigning it with alloc in //LINE 1? Also, why is //LINE 1 not: objStr = [NSMutableAttributedString* initWithString:@"(null)" attributes:attrDict] If I create a new string like (NSString*) str = [NSString initWithString:@"test"]; ... str = @"another string"; Would I have to release str, or is this wrong and if I do that I have to use [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"test"]? Why isn't the pointer symbol used as in [[NSString* alloc] ...? Thanks

  • Debug vs Trace in C#

    - by koumides
    All, As I understand statements like Debug.WriteLine() will not stay in the code in the Release build. On the other hand Trace.WriteLine() will stay in the code in the Release build. What is controling this behaviour? Does the C# compiler ignores everything from the System.Diagnostics.Debug class when the DEBUG is defined? I am just trying to understand the internals of C# and just curious. Thanks, MK
