  • How do I use the information about exceptions a method throws in .NET in my code?

    For many methods in .NET, the exceptions they can potentially throw can be as many as 7-8 (one or two methods in XmlDocument, Load() being one I think, can throw this many exceptions). Does this mean I have to write 8 catch blocks to catch all of these exceptions (it is best practise to catch an exception with a specific exception block and not just a general catch block of type Exception). How do I use this information? Thanks

    How many significant digits should I use when defining a double literal in Java? This is assuming that I am trying to represent a number with more significant figures than a double can hold. In Math.java I see 20 and 21: public static final double E = 2.7182818284590452354; public static final double PI = 3.14159265358979323846; This is more than the 15-17 significant digits provided by IEEE 754. So what's the general rule-of-thumb?

I know that in general this is true, but I'm interested in the exceptions.     I am doing a PDO::exec command on multiple updates: $MyPdo->setAttribute(PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_USE_BUFFERED_QUERY,true); $MyPdo->exec("update t1 set f1=1;update t2 set f1=2"); I am doing it inside a transaction, and I keep getting: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 2014 Cannot execute queries while other unbuffered queries are active. Consider using PDOStatement::fetchAll(). Alternatively, if your code is only ever going to run against mysql, you may enable query buffering by setting the PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_USE_BUFFERED_QUERY attribute. those are the only query/ies

  • List of valid characters for the fragment identifier in an URL?

    I'm using the fragment identifier to create a permalink for AJAX events in my web app similar to this guy. Something like: http://www.myapp.com/calendar#filter:year/2010/month/5 I've done quite a bit of searching but can't find a list of valid characters for the fragment idenitifer. The W3C spec doesn't offer anything. Do I need to encode the characters the same as the URL in has in general? There doesn't seem to be any good information on this anywhere.
