  I've learned today, if you append to your query OPTION (MAXDOP 0) your query will run on multiple processors and if it's huge query, query will perform faster. I know general guidelines on query optimizations (using indexes, selecting only needed fields etc.), my question is about SQL Server optimization.   Is there a way to find out how much memory is used by an instance of a class or basic data types in general? I have a toy webframework in cl that creates and manages web pages with instances of classes that represent the html tags and their properties, and as they are supposed to make an html page, they have children in a slot called children. so I was thinking how much a user's session will cost the server if I take this approach. • How significant are JPA lazy loading performance benefits?

  I understand that this is highly specific to the concrete application, but I'm just wondering what's the general opinion, or at least some personal experiences on the issue. I have an aversion towards the 'open session in view' pattern, so to avoid it, I'm thinking about simply fetching everything small eagerly, and using queries in the service layer to fetch larger stuff. Has anyone used this and regretted it? And is there maybe some elegant solution to lazy loading in the view layer that I'm not aware of?

  I'm writing a C program where I fork(), exec(), and wait(). I'd like to take the output of the program I exec'ed to write it to file or buffer. For example, if I exec ls I want to write file1 file2 etc to buffer/file. I don't think there is a way to read stdout, so does that mean I have to use a pipe?
