  • Steps after SQL Injection detected

    I've come across SQL injection vulnerabilities on my companies ecommerce page. It was fairly poorly put together. I believe I have prevented future attempts however we are getting calls about fraudulent credit card charges on our site and others. This leads me to believe that someone was able to get a list of our credit card numbers. What doesn't make sense is that we don't store that information and we use Authorize.net for the transaction. If someone was able to get the CC#s, what should I do next? Inform ALL of our customers that someone broken into our system and stole their information? I have a feeling that will be bad for business.

  • Understanding When Social Interactions Should Be Resolved in Another Channel

    Guest Blogger: Aphrodite Brinsmead, Senior Analyst at Ovum Agents need to respond to customers’ social comments and questions quickly and in the right tone. But more importantly, they need to offer resolutions. Customers care most about how long it takes to find information rather than which channel they are using. They choose to use social media because they are comfortable with the channel and it offers a convenient way to communicate. Ideally agents will resolve questions within social media, but they need guidance as to how and when to escalate interactions to a more private channel. First, businesses should assess the way in which customers are using social media to communicate with them and categorize posts into groups: complaints, feedback, technical queries or more general support questions. They should then consider the types of interactions that can easily be handled within social media and those that need to be followed up in another channel. This will be very dependent on the industry. Examples of queries that can be resolved in social media include Shipping pricing and timeframes Outage updates and resolution plans Flight status information Product stock check Technical support videos or forum posts Availability of facilities Both customers and agents need to be educated about the types of questions they can expect to resolve within social media. As the channel matures as a customer service tool, it needs to have value other than just as a forum for complaints. Social customer service agents need the power to start a web chat or phone call Any questions where customers need to divulge personal details in order to get a resolution will need to be addressed in a private channel: a private social message, web chat, email or phone call. Customers should never disclose their date of birth, social security, credit card number, or healthcare records in a public forum. Flight issues, changes to a booking, billing queries or account updates will all need to be completed via a private interaction. Agents responding to questions on social media need the ability to start a web chat or phone call with the customer. The customer doesn’t want to have to repeat their question and the agent should be empowered to connect customer records and access account or billing information. These agents will need to be trained across different channels and should be able to view all customer communications in one application. They also need to follow up questions that began on a public forum in the initial channel to make it clear that the issue was addressed. In order to make this possible, social media needs to be integrated as part of a broader customer service strategy. Irrespective of how many channels are used to complete an interaction, businesses should prioritize customer satisfaction and issue resolution.   • Is there a way to learn why Google penalized a site?

    Is there any way to learn for sure why Google penalized a specific site? I think about situation when webmaster/site administrator is aware about Google rules and is sure they aren't breaking any, but the site is penalized nevertheless. The only information you get from Google is that they processed your reconsideration request but they neither say what is the result nor what is the penalty reason if they keep the site penalized. You can try to get information on Google webmasters forum or here but most of the time these are only speculations. Considering the site administrator tried to find out what's wrong but failed, is there a source which can tell what is the problem?

  • Is this a pattern? Should it be?

    The following is more of a statement than a question - it describes something that may be a pattern. The question is: is this a known pattern? Or, if it's not, should it be? I've had a situation where I had to iterate over two dissimilar multi-layer data structures and copy information from one to the other. Depending on particular use case, I had around eight different kinds of layers, combined in about eight different combinations: A-B-C B-C A-C D-E A-D-E and so on After a few unsuccessful attempts to factor out the repetition of per-layer iteration code, I realized that the key difficulty in this refactoring was the fact that the bottom level needed access to data gathered at higher levels. To explicitly accommodate this requirement, I introduced IterationContext class with a number of get() and set() methods for accumulating the necessary information. In the end, I had the following class structure: class Iterator { virtual void iterateOver(const Structure &dataStructure1, IterationContext &ctx) const = 0; }; class RecursingIterator : public Iterator { RecursingIterator(const Iterator &below); }; class IterateOverA : public RecursingIterator { virtual void iterateOver(const Structure &dataStructure1, IterationContext &ctx) const { // Iterate over members in dataStructure1 // locate corresponding item in dataStructure2 (passed via context) // and set it in the context // invoke the sub-iterator }; class IterateOverB : public RecursingIterator { virtual void iterateOver(const Structure &dataStructure1, IterationContext &ctx) const { // iterate over members dataStructure2 (form context) // set dataStructure2's item in the context // locate corresponding item in dataStructure2 (passed via context) // invoke the sub-iterator }; void main() { class FinalCopy : public Iterator { virtual void iterateOver(const Structure &dataStructure1, IterationContext &ctx) const { // copy data from structure 1 to structure 2 in the context, // using some data from higher levels as needed } } IterationContext ctx(dateStructure2); IterateOverA(IterateOverB(FinalCopy())).iterate(dataStructure1, ctx); } It so happens that dataStructure1 is a uniform data structure, similar to XML DOM in that respect, while dataStructure2 is a legacy data structure made of various structs and arrays. This allows me to pass dataStructure1 outside of the context for convenience. In general, either side of the iteration or both sides may be passed via context, as convenient. The key situation points are: complicated code that needs to be invoked in "layers", with multiple combinations of layer types possible at the bottom layer, the information from top layers needs to be visible. The key implementation points are: use of context class to access the data from all levels of iteration complicated iteration code encapsulated in implementation of pure virtual function two interfaces - one aware of underlying iterator, one not aware of it. use of const & to simplify the usage syntax.

  • XORG Issues- reported bug, what next

    On Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, after watching a video on VLC, I started getting screen freezes and unresponsive keyboard, and the mouse moves but clicking it doesn't do anything. I created a bug (1055240) and provided additional information but I'm not sure what happens next. I ran apport-collect 1055240 as suggested and somewhere during that process it told me to ask my question on Ask Ubuntu. So I'm wondering if y'all can tell me what I need to do? AFAIK I have provided the additional information that was requested. My PC is getting close to the point of becoming unusable- I just don't know which flash video is going to be the next one to cause it to lock up :-(

    By inadvertance, I've created a file called -r into my home directory. Please don't ask me how and why, I don't recall. But the fact is that now I cannot get rid of it : rm -rf rm: missing operand Try 'rm --help' for more information. Other try : rm /-/r rm: cannot remove ‘/-/r’: No such file or directory Another one : rm \-r rm: missing operand Try 'rm --help' for more information. Is there a way to remove this file without deleting the whole directory ? Thanks.

  • How to redirect from HTTPS to HTTP without warning message?

    I have two web sites: one HTTP site and one HTTPS site. I will validate the credentials in HTTPS environment and will return to HTTP once authorized. The same is working fine in IE but in Mozilla im getting a warning which is given below. Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a thrid party. Are you sure you want to continue sending this information? How to overcome this warning message? Currently I'm posting from HTTPS aspx page using JavaScript to the HTTP page.

  • Drupal node access for anonymous users

    I've never used Drupal before so this may be something that can easily be remedied, and that would be awesome. My problem is that a block, containing node information can't be viewed by anonymous users (unregisterd/not logged in), gives a "You are not authorized to access this content." message, but shows up for logged in users. The nodes that the block contains are events, so the block shows events for the next week. I've checked the users access settings but can't find anything that could possibly remedy this. I'm using drupal core 6.26, Event 6.x-2.x-dev, Event views 6.x-2.4 If anyone has any information, or solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • Alternating links and slide down content on a list of sub sections

    I have a page for a doctor's practice. In the summary page for the practice there is a list of subsections such as Women's, Men's, Children, Sport, etc. Some of these sub sections are very large, others can be a paragraph or more with a short unordered list. In terms of content volume, the large subsections warrant their own separate page, the smaller one's not so much. I created a little plugin which enables me to use the list of subsections in 2 ways. When clicking on the title of a larger section, you'll be sent through to it's own page. For the smaller sections, a slide down box will open with the information. Is this a good way to handle my information architecture? Should I be giving the smaller sub sections their own page for SEO purposes?
