• Rails3 Redirect for javascript/ajax

  Hi, I'm using a form with the remote => true. I have a validation that is working correctly. My problem is when the user enters all the correct information and writes the data at this time I do a redirect to the page of the show. Instead of redirecting, it displays the html of the show in my div. How can I make a javascript redirect that will understand? I did not want to use the window.location. Thanks...

• javascript not working on localhost

  Ok so I'm lost here, frustrated and pulling my hair and out. Plus probably about to be fired or take a pay cut. I moved Files from a development server to my local machine. The files are consistent (used diff tool), all the dependencies are there. It works for the most part. The problem is that the some of the javascript (not all) is just not working. We're using jquery and a lot of plugins for it. I've checked with the web developer plugin in firefox and all the js files are loading. I cleared the cache in both firefox and chrome multiple times to no avail. The development server is a windows server running wamp. My local machine is running ubuntu. Somebody tell me what I missed.

  I am developing an addon to Firefox using addon-builder. I want to replace a normal alert box in Javascript with my addon. So, I have choosen customized alert boxes using jQuery. The jAlert details are given here. Now, I made customized alerts (with title and colors in alert). It is wroking properly on some websites. But on some websites the default CSS is dominating my jQuery CSS, which leads to unexpected alerts (ugly alerts).

  I have seen some answers to this question in previous posts, but no one has given a real working example, just psuedo code. Has anyone ever done this before? Basically, what i have is a variable in javascript (jquery), and i want to use this variable to drive a query (for an overlay window) i am going to run in php. From what i have read you can do this using an ajax call to the same page so it doesnt refresh itself, but i must be missing something because i can't get it working... Any examples out there? Through javascript, I get four variables (A, B, C, and D) that I would like to sort, and still keep track of the variable name (since it's encoded with meaning information). Sample Data: A = 2; B = 1; C = 4; D = 3; What I need to do now is sort them in value order (4,3,2,1) such that I can actually know the variable name ordering (C,D,A,B).

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question! I've got the code working in jQuery to listen for a specific form on a page to be submitted and perform an alert when it is.. I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery?   I just wanted to poll the community and see which plugins people are currently using to get all of these different technologies running in Eclipse. I saw this thread which mentioned Spket & WPT: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1575617/eclipse-which-plugins-for-html-javascript But I noticed that Spket doesn't seem to have been updated since October of 2009 so I'm wondering if it's still a good tool to use. I'm not sure what would be best for PHP since it seems like some of the tools are disjointed at the moment. For Actionscript I know I can just install the latest Flash Builder plugin and be done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

• How can I see included JavaScript sources?

  I am trying to script a web page using GreaseMonkey. (I am using Firebug for help in development.) The page has a small amount of JavaScript code, but that code pulls in other JS files from the site. Are the entire collection of JS files stored somewhere on the client side (i.e. on the filesystem somewhere) so that I can view them? Or better yet, is there a way I can view them in Firebug? I am a little overwhelmed by Firebug but will be able to follow instructions. Many thanks. (My first ever question on SO!) -Todd

  Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either. • Regular Expression for accurate word-count using JavaScript

  I'm trying to put together a regular expression for a JavaScript command that accurately counts the number of words in a textarea. One solution I had found is as follows: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\b\w+\b/).length -1; But this doesn't count any non-Latin characters (eg: Cyrillic, Hangul, etc); it skips over them completely. Another one I put together: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\s+/g).length -1; But this doesn't count accurately unless the document ends in a space character. If a space character is appended to the value being counted it counts 1 word even with an empty document. Furthermore, if the document begins with a space character an extraneous word is counted. Is there a regular expression I can put into this command that counts the words accurately, regardless of input method?

  Hello, I am working with php and mysql. I have one dropdown box where I am asking datatype of mysql field. Now, I want to put javascript validation for it. I am confused with the enum datatype. I am using regular expression /^[']{1}[^',^\\]+[']{1}$/. This is for one single value of enum values. It is working fine but issue is when I put single quote or backslash with backslash, it is valid but this regular expression shows it as invalid. For eg, 'a'b' is invalid but 'a\'b' is valid.

I have searched a lot on google found a lot of interesting libraries like Raphaël and its extention Dracula. Google has its own library to make flowcharts too. • Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one).   I've been trying to find a way to do this but, have not found many resources that specifically relate to this situation. I need a javascript (can make use of Jquery if need be) to swap phone numbers on a site. 2 numbers would be specified. One would show on the site by default. The script needs to be able to create a cookie and do this by recognizing a value in the URL string. For Example: http://www.site.com/index.html?value= '?value=' would be the value. This URL (with the additional variable) would bring the user to the same site but, the variable in the string would set the cookie and display a different number. The default number would not be displayed again until the cookies were removed. Due to the situation with my server, I cannot make use of PHP ( I know, that would make things alot easier :P ) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
