  • Why encodeXxx methods in UIComponent accept FacesContext parameter?

    - by Roman
    I haven't ever before created custom component in jsf so I've noticed it only now that methods like encodeBegin(), encodeEnd() etc accept FacesContext parameter. FacesContext instance can usually be received with FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(). So, I wonder whether these methods have FacesContext parameter just for convenience or some different objects can be passed there (maybe from external resources..). If the latter is possible then could you give an example pls.

  • Why LINQ will work this way?

    - by Benny
    public static ArrayList GetStudentAsArrayList() { ArrayList students = new ArrayList { new Student() { RollNumber = 1,Name ="Alex " , Section = 1 ,HostelNumber=1 }, new Student() { RollNumber = 2,Name ="Jonty " , Section = 2 ,HostelNumber=2 }, }; return students; } this doesn't compile: ArrayList is not IEnumerable ArrayList lstStudents = GetStudentAsArrayList(); var res = from r in lstStudents select r; but this will compile: ArrayList lstStudents = GetStudentAsArrayList(); var res = from Student r in lstStudents select r; Can anybody explain? what's the magic here?

  • Why can't I publish MVC project

    - by Vnuk
    I'm having problems publishing my MVC project. When I do publish and upload everything to web server I get this: [InvalidOperationException: The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx] Weird thing is that Index.aspx exists in ~/Views/Home/, but IIS cannot find it there. If I copy entire project to web server and let asp.net compile it on the fly it works like a charm. My routing code: routes.MapRoute( _ "Default", _ "{controller}/{action}/{id}", _ New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id = ""} _ ) routes.MapRoute("Root", "", New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id =""}) I'm using IIS7 on Windows 2008 Web server. ASP.NET MVC 1.0, Visual Studio 2008. I've tried it local with IIS7 on Windows 7 - same error.

  • Why is cell phone software still so primitive?

    - by Tomislav Nakic-Alfirevic
    I don't do mobile development, but it strikes me as odd that features like this aren't available by default on most phones: full text search: searches all address book contents, messages, anything else being a plus better call management: e.g. a rotating audio call log, meaning you always have the last N calls recorded for your listening pleasure later (your little girl just said her first "da-da" while you were on a business trip, you had a telephone job interview, you received complex instructions to do something etc.) bluetooth remote control (like e.g. anyRemote, but available by default on a bluetooth phone) no multitasking capabilities worth mentioning and in general no e.g. weekly software updates, making the phone much more usable (even if it had to be done over USB, rather than over the network). I'm sure I was dumbfounded by the lack or design of other features as well, but they don't come to mind right now. To clarify, I'm not talking about smartphones here: my plain, 2-year old phone has a CPU an order of magnitude faster than my first PC, about as much storage space and it's ridiculous how bad (slow, unwieldy) the software is and it's not one phone or one manufacturer. What keeps the (to me) obvious software functionality vacuum on a capable hardware platform from being filled up? Edit: I believe a clarification on the multitasking point might be beneficial. I'll use my phone as an example, although the point is much more general. The phone can multitask and in fact does: you can listen to music and do something else at the same time. On the other hand, the way the software has been designed makes multitasking next to useless. (Ditto with the external touch screen: it can take touch commands, but only one application makes use of it, and only with 3 commands.) To take the multitasking example to the extreme, if I plug my phone into my laptop and it registers as an external disk, it doesn't allow any kind of operation: messages, calling, calendar, everything out of reach, although I can receive a call. No "battery life" issue there: it's charging while connected. BTW, another example of design below the current state of the art: I don't see a phone on the horizon which will remember where in an audio or video file you were when you stopped listening/watching it last time (podcasts are a good use case). Simplistic rewind/fast forward functionality only aggravates the problem.

  • Why Eventmachine Defer slower than Ruby Thread?

    - by allenwei
    I have two scripts which using mechanize to fetch google index page. I assuming Eventmachine will faster than ruby thread, but not. Eventmachine code cost "0.24s user 0.08s system 2% cpu 12.682 total" Ruby Thread code cost "0.22s user 0.08s system 5% cpu 5.167 total " Am I use eventmachine in wrong way? Who can explain it to me, thanks! 1 Eventmachine require 'rubygems' require 'mechanize' require 'eventmachine' trap("INT") {EM.stop} EM.run do num = 0 operation = proc { agent = Mechanize.new sleep 1 agent.get("http://google.com").body.to_s.size } callback = proc { |result| sleep 1 puts result num+=1 EM.stop if num == 9 } 10.times do EventMachine.defer operation, callback end end 2 Ruby Thread require 'rubygems' require 'mechanize' threads = [] 10.times do threads << Thread.new do agent = Mechanize.new sleep 1 puts agent.get("http://google.com").body.to_s.size sleep 1 end end threads.each do |aThread| aThread.join end

  • Why build Javascript functions as JQuery plugins?

    - by Mohammad
    I've seen alot of JQuery implementations of existent JavaScript functions that merely wrap the JavaScript code in a JQuery wrapper and don't actually rely on any of JQuery's base for their operation. What are the benefits of using Javascript as a JQuery plugin? If there are none is there a speed loss to use a JQuery plugin that could have easily been implemented outside the wrapper just as well? Many thanks in advance (just trying to learn something here).

  • Why does typeof NaN return 'number'?

    - by KooiInc
    Just out of curiosity. It doesn't seem very logical that typeof NaN is number. Just like NaN === NaN or NaN == NaN returning false, by the way. Is this one of the peculiarities of javascript, or would there be a reason for this?

  • Why loading of analytics blocks site loading?

    - by HasanGursoy
    Stupid government of Turkey have blocked Google's some IPs which were used for YouTube and now we can't access services like: translate, analytics. And the problem is some web-sites do not load until ga.js returns a response or request timeout. Even sometimes I'm expecting slow loading on stackoverflow and page load never completes. How can I make this web sites load faster and skip Google analytics files?

  • Why does the textField not show up when I change the defaultTextFormat

    - by Leon
    I have an if/else statement which checks the length of my current title, and then is suppose to change the defaultTextFormat of the title textField and set the text. Currently the title will not show up now, no matter what character length the title is, any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong here? public function switchTitle(sentText):void { titleString = sentText; trace("---------"+"\n"); trace("Forumula testing"); trace("titleString = "+titleString); trace("titleString.length = "+titleString.length); trace("titleSize/10 = "+(titleSize/10)); trace("\n"); // If Title can fit: if (titleString.length < (titleSize/10)) { vTitle.defaultTextFormat = Fonts.VideoTitle; titleString = sentText; // If Title can't fit: } else if (titleString.length >= (titleSize/10)) { vTitle.defaultTextFormat = Fonts.VideoTitle2; titleString = sentText; } trace("---------"+"\n"); //vTitle.text = titleString; // <-- Original code, worked }

  • Why aren't my coordinates matching my JFrame size?

    - by AsLanFromNarnia
    I want to do some drawing in a JPanel but the enclosing JFrame size doesn't seem to match where I've asked the coordinates to be drawn. In my example code, the JFrame size is set to (700, 700) and the last point is drawn at (600, 600). I would expect this point to be drawn 100 pixels away from the right and bottom edges but it isn't (please see screenshot). Here's the code I'm using: import java.awt.Graphics; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; public class Scratch extends JPanel { static int frameWidth = 700; static int frameHeight = 700; public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setSize(frameWidth, frameHeight); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); Scratch scratch = new Scratch(); frame.getContentPane().add(scratch); frame.setVisible(true); } @Override public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { g.drawRect(100, 100, 1, 1); g.drawString("100", 100, 100); g.drawRect(200, 200, 1, 1); g.drawString("200", 200, 200); g.drawRect(300, 300, 1, 1); g.drawString("300", 300, 300); g.drawRect(400, 400, 1, 1); g.drawString("400", 400, 400); g.drawRect(500, 500, 1, 1); g.drawString("500", 500, 500); g.drawRect(600, 600, 1, 1); g.drawString("600", 600, 600); } }

  • Why is an inverse loop faster than a normal loop (test included)

    - by Saif Bechan
    I have been running some small tests in PHP on loops. I do not know if my method is good. I have found that a inverse loop is faster than a normal loop. I have also found that a while-loop is faster than a for-loop. Setup <?php $counter = 10000000; $w=0;$x=0;$y=0;$z=0; $wstart=0;$xstart=0;$ystart=0;$zstart=0; $wend=0;$xend=0;$yend=0;$zend=0; $wstart = microtime(true); for($w=0; $w<$counter; $w++){ echo ''; } $wend = microtime(true); echo "normal for: " . ($wend - $wstart) . "<br />"; $xstart = microtime(true); for($x=$counter; $x>0; $x--){ echo ''; } $xend = microtime(true); echo "inverse for: " . ($xend - $xstart) . "<br />"; echo "<hr> normal - inverse: " . (($wend - $wstart) - ($xend - $xstart)) . "<hr>"; $ystart = microtime(true); $y=0; while($y<$counter){ echo ''; $y++; } $yend = microtime(true); echo "normal while: " . ($yend - $ystart) . "<br />"; $zstart = microtime(true); $z=$counter; while($z>0){ echo ''; $z--; } $zend = microtime(true); echo "inverse while: " . ($zend - $zstart) . "<br />"; echo "<hr> normal - inverse: " . (($yend - $ystart) - ($zend - $zstart)) . "<hr>"; echo "<hr> inverse for - inverse while: " . (($xend - $xstart) - ($zend - $zstart)) .   • Tortoise SVN Icon Overlays Displaying Everywhere...Why?

    - by jwalkerjr
    Update: So, this turns out to have nothing to do with Tortoise SVN. I use Mozy.com for off-site backups and their new version includes these icon overlays. They can be disabled via the config options...or see here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?p=1385433. Thanks @OS for the answer. Been using Tortoise SVN for some time on my Vista box. Within the last few days (and after recently upgrading to 1.5.4) the icon overlays are displaying on all files. My exclude path is: * My include paths are: C:\Users\jw\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\SVNProjects* C:\Users\jw\Documents\VB Projects\SVNProjects* I haven't touched those settings in months. Any ideas? Help. Thanks.

  • Why my shell program wont open the file got as argument in function "cat"

    - by anna karenina
    I included the code below, sorry to bother you with so much code. Argument parsing is ok, i checked it out with watches. I've put some printfs to check out where the problem may be and it seems that it wont open the file cat receives as argument. i called from shell like "cat -b file" #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #define TRUE 0 #define FALSE 1 void yes(int argc, char *argv[]); int cat(int argc, char *argv[]); //#include "cat.h" //#include "yes.h" //#include"tee.h" char buf[50],c[10], *p2,*p, *pch; int count; char *matrix[20]; void yes(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i; // if (argc >= 2 && *argv[1] == '-') // { //printf("ERROR!"); //} //if (argc == 1) // { while (1) if (puts("y") == EOF) { perror("yes"); exit(FALSE); } // } while (1) for (i = 1; i < argc; i++) if (fputs(argv[i], stdout) == EOF || putchar(i == argc - 1 ?   • Why packets injected with libpcap are duplicated?

    - by r0u1i
    I'm using sharppcap in order to send packets as part of a monitoring system. Usually it works well but I've encountered the strangest bug on a hosted vista machine and I would like your help. On that virtual vista machine, injected packets are duplicated. That is, if I send a ping request using libpcap, it somehow gets duplicated and I get two requests on the destination machine. The two requests are almost identical byte-wise, and the only difference between them is that the second packet's TTL field is one minus the original packet's value. Using wireshark I can see the packet gets duplicated before it (and its clone) leave the vista machine. The problem is manifested even when using other tools for injecting packets using libpcap (namely PlayCap). Any ideas?

  • Why does this gstreamer pipeline stall ?

    - by timday
    I've been playing around with gstreamer pipelines using gst-launch. I don't have any problems if I just want to process audio or video separately (to separate files, or to alsasink/ximagesink), but I'm confused by what I need to do to mux the streams back together using, say avimux. This gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=MVI_2034.AVI ! decodebin name=dec \ dec. ! queue ! audioconvert ! 'audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=1' ! queue ! mux. \ dec. ! queue ! videoflip 1 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! jpegenc ! queue ! mux. \ avimux name=mux ! filesink location=out.avi just outputs Setting pipeline to PAUSED ... Pipeline is PREROLLING ... and then stalls indefinitely. What's the trick ?

  • Why is postgresql update query so slow sometimes, even with index

  • Why is this default template parameter not allowed?

    - by Matt Joiner
    I have the following class: template <typename Type = void> class AlignedMemory { public: AlignedMemory(size_t alignment, size_t size) : memptr_(0) { int iret(posix_memalign((void **)&memptr_, alignment, size)); if (iret) throw system_error("posix_memalign"); } virtual ~AlignedMemory() { free(memptr_); } operator Type *() const { return memptr_; } Type *operator->() const { return memptr_; } //operator Type &() { return *memptr_; } //Type &operator[](size_t index) const; private: Type *memptr_; }; And attempt to instantiate an automatic variable like this: AlignedMemory blah(512, 512); This gives the following error: src/cpfs/entry.cpp:438: error: missing template arguments before ‘buf’ What am I doing wrong? Is void not an allowed default parameter?

  • Why can't I build this Javascript object?

    - by Alex Mcp
    I have an object I'm trying to populate from another object (that is, iterate over a return object to produce an object with only selected values from the original). My code looks like this: var collect = {}; function getHistoricalData(username){ $.getJSON("http://url/" + username + ".json?params", function(data){ for (var i=0; i < data.length; i++) { console.log(i); collect = { i : {text : data[i].text}}; $("#wrap").append("<span>" + data[i].text + "</span><br />"); }; console.log(collect); }); } So I'm using Firebug for debugging, and here's what I know: The JSON object is intact console.log(i); is showing the numbers 1-20 as expected When I log the collect object at the end, it's structure is this: var collect = { i : {text : "the last iteration's text"}}; So the incrementer is "applying" to the data[i].text and returning the text value, but it's not doing what I expected, which is create a new member of the collect object; it's just overwriting collect.i 20 times and leaving me with the last value. Is there a different syntax I need to be using for assigning object members? I tried collect.i.text = and collect[i].text = and the error was that whatever I tried was undefined. I'd love to know what's going on here, so the more in-depth an explanation the better. Thanks!
