• Exchange server not serving mobile devices - how to troubleshoot?

  Our exchange server has suddenly stopped serving mobile devices. Attempts to connect result in our ActiveSync server returning HTTP 500. It is serving outlook clients fine. Our server is Windows 2003 SBS 6.5 SP2 There are no abnormal events in the system log. I ran the "Exchange ActiveSync with AutoDiscover" at https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ I've notice an abnormality in the exchange properties, Log File Directory shows: Access denied. Facility: Win32 ID no: 80070005 Exchange System Manager As shown in the following image: I think it may be related to a recent issue we had here: http://serverfault.com/questions/40222/windows-server-2003-suddenly-unable-to-connect-to-anything We followed a procedure to reinstall TCP/IP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325356 I've run the "exchange activesync" connectivity test at testexchangeconnectivity.com: Attempting to Resolve the host name mail.immersive.com.au in DNS. • Postfix send remotely for X account

  I setup Postfix a few days ago to deliver email bound for my host name remotely instead of locally as I want email sent to my remote [email protected] account without trying to be sent locally. However, this causes a problem as it tries to send local bound mail(root) to my remote server as well ([email protected]). I would like E-mail bound for [email protected] to be sent to the remote server(GMail Apps in this case) and everything else sent locally(using the alias file perhaps), is this possible? • List full timestamps of files in a tarball

  I have a large tar archive and want to see the exact (nanosecond) timestamps that are stored for each file in the archive. In case it's relevant, the tarball is in POSIX-2001 format (tar --format=posix). tar --list --verbose displays the timestamps rounded off to the minute. For comparison, ls --full-time does what I want, but I'd rather not have to extract everything first because it's huge. For my purposes, command-line and GUI tools are both fine.

• Preventing Postfix backscattering

  I am having problems with the Postfix mail server being used for backscattering, I have tried the suggestions in the manual but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how we can reject any mail from entering the queue if the recipient doesn't match a local recipient rather than send bounce emails? I'm assuming it should be a fairly straight forward change in the configuration files. Just to note I am using Webmin/Virtualmin on the server.

  I have been using Thunderbird Buttons! plug-in for years with Thunderbird 2.0, especially it's nifty Archive feature that lets you archive the message to one of the pre-set folder with a single mouse click. Unfortunately this plug-in doesn't work with Thunderbird version 3.0.4 and later. The plugin has not been updated since 2007. So could anybody recommend any fix or replacement for this?

  I have a client which has all his mail on server outside of his company. Right now his exchange server (on SBS 2008 is configured using POP3 connector but problem is mail gets deleted from server when downloaded by connector. Is there a way to make pop3 connector leave emails on server (external one) and download them as well for use within Exchange. Client wants to "feel" exchange before making the move totally so he would like to play with it for longer while without loosing mails he has on his server.

(I could forward the mail to another mail service that does, but I'd like to try a proxy) Is there some simple software that could be run on a linux box to allow secure SSL POP3/SMTP connections to it, and transparently proxy/connect to the ISP email servers? This is to allow wireless mobile devices more secure access their email without needing the full vpn.

  Just installed ClearOS on a PC to act as our firewall firstly and then to act as an internal mailserver. My question is: Can i create a mailserver that then routes the mail through to our ISP mail server without having to contact the ISP and gain MX records etc..? We are a small business (5 PCs + dataserver) and the reason this is interesting is because we need to keep a record of outgoing mails from certain users, as well as spam and virus filtering.

• Adding a Microsoft Exchange 2010 account to my Windows Phone 7.5 mobile (Nokia Lumia 800) without trusted certificate

  I have problems in creating an account on my Nokia Lumia 800 (OS version: 7.10.8773.98, of course with Windows Phone 7.1 mounted with all updates) to one of my company's Microsoft Exchange 2010 server, because it cannot provide a trusted certificate...but only when contacting it from outside my network (like https ://mail.(CompanyName).com). Accessing the server from inside my network (pointing directly to the machine name or internal IP address: https ://(MachineName) or https ://10.0.1.200) gives me NO PROBLEM AT ALL! Setting correctly (I guess) all the parameters for the account (accessing from outside my network), the connection (after correctly set my credentials as asked) will not be established. It gives the next error (translated from my language manually): Error of <CompanyName> There is a problem with the certificate of (Server Address). Please contact support or the provider. Last try: X minutes ago Error code: 80072F06 I've tried all possible configurations and parameters (including the check The server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection, of course), but no way. EDITED: As suggested by Oliver Salzburg, I also tried this way without any results. I tried so: I went to my OWA (Outlook Web Access) that gives me the same problem (problems the certificate, it's not trusted) After accepting to continue, I clicked on the Error in Certificate button of the Internet Explorer 9 address bar - Show Certificates - page Details, show: - Copy to file... button - in the exporting wizard: Next - Binary encoding DER X.509 (.cer) (but there was also Base binary 64 X.509 (.cer), no way) - Next - saved to a new file From my Google Mail Account, I sent a mail to myself the certificate as attachment I read the mail from my WP7 phone, saved the attachment and then ran it: answering Yes to Do you wany to install the certificate? of course... Closed any active program and rebooted the phone Re-tried in synchronizing my account....:(...SAME PROBLEM! EDITED 2: Thanks again to Oliver Salzburg, I tried the next solution: I went to the site https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ I selected Exchange ActiveSync option, as suggested I setted all my parameters, as I made for my phone I also setted the option Ignore SSL attendibility (and in another test I didn't) I performed my test This is the complete log (I removed my parameters): Seems the same problem (machine name in the certificate is different from the external Exchange website domain name?)! • Estimate compressed file size in tar.gz

  I've got a set of .tar.gz files, which are duplicity backup files (either full backups or incremental ones). I'd like to compute which directories take the most space on backups. This will most probably be a different figure to calculating which directories take the most space on a live filesystem because I need to account for how often are files changing (and therefore taking space on incremental backups) and how compressible are files. I know that while many other archive formats store compressed files as different entities inside the archive file, .tar.gz files do not, and therefore it is impossible to get an exact amount of storage taken in the archive by a single file after compression. Are there any tools to calculate at least some estimates?

• Can't send email through Comcast SMTP to my domains

  I am a Comcast customer with 3 computers and 3 computer users in the house. There are 2 fully updated Macs and one PC running Windows 7. We use Mail on the Macs, and Outlook on Windows 7. All computer accounts are configured to send mail through port 587 of smtp.comcast.net. I also have two personal domains registered with Network Solutions. For the sake of this discussion, call my domains myOwnDomain1.com and myOwnDomain2.com. I have email addresses at both domains. They are of the form [email protected] and [email protected]. Until recently, our email worked as expected. However, sometime between September 13, 2012 and September 19, 2012, we lost the ability to send email through Comcast's SMTP server to the email addresses at my personal domains. If we attempt to send email through Comcast's SMTP to those addresses, the email never arrives. Furthermore, the email clients give no indication of failure. The email just never arrives. The result is the same on all 3 computers and with all accounts on those computers. We can successfully send email through Comcast's SMTP from any of our accounts on any of our computers to any email address other than to my email addresses at my personal domains! However, I receive email at those domains that is not sent through smtp.comcast.net. For example, I can successfully send email from my gmail and yahoo accounts to my email addresses at my personal domains. Furthermore, I can successfully send email through smtp.myOwnDomain1.com to [email protected] and through smtp.myOwnDoman2.com to [email protected]. Comcast says the problem must be at Network Solutions. According to Network Solutions, their logs show they are not blocking reception of the email, and our IP address is not flagged as a spam source. They say the email is simply not arriving. Does anyone have any ideas why we can't send email through Comcast's SMTP server to my domains? As an odd coincidence, we recently noticed a change in Comcast's SMTP service. there is now a 5 minute delay on all outbound mail. Comcast's SMTP server seems to sit on the mail with a 5 minute timer.

  I'm using this piece of code to send a mail: SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient(); client.Host = smtpServer; client.Send(mailMessage); If I trigger this code ten times/second, then after some hundred mails, sending a mail takes 10 seconds... Could there be a queue involved here?

• Roundcube connection to storage server failed

  I recently installed kloxo on a brand new VPS and set up mail servers and everything. i am using courier-imap on my VPS and i have verified it is running however i cannot for the life of me get into mail with round cube, i keep getting the error connection to storage server failed, is this an issue with my database. I have tried granting all privileges to the round cube user in MySQL and restarted qmail several times. Any ideas?
