  • Single page Web App in Java framework or examples?

    Has anyone seen an example or done the following in Java: http://duganchen.ca/single-page-web-app-architecture-done-right/ That is a design a single page web app that will work with Google SEO with out massive violation of DRY using Java technologies? It doesn't seem terrible hard to do this on my own but I was curious (and lazy) to see if someone had already done it with either Spring or JAX-RS.

    Right now I am writing a simulation program which output is formatted according to certain factors. The question is in a MVC architecture, where is the conditional formatting to be taken place? What are some strategies for implement this feature? FYI, The platform I am using is rather bare-bone in its GUI/front-end execution. To change color and formatting, it requires a change to the formatting state (much like OpenGL).

  • Observing social web behavior: to log or populate databases?

    When considering social web app architecture, is it a better approach to document user social patterns in a database or in logs? I thought for sure that behavior, actions, events would be strictly database stored but I noticed that some of the larger social sites out there also track a lot by logging what happens. Is it good practice to store prominent data about users in a database and since thousands of user actions can be spawned easily, should they be simply logged?

    I'm writing a program in assembly using MIPS architecture for a class, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to grab an input character by a user and store it in a register to process. The program would open a console, output a message, the user can then input a character and then this determines what is supposed to happen next in the program. Running ld source.o produces the following output: Undefined symbols: "_printf", referenced from: _main in source.o ld: symbol(s) not found for inferred architecture x86_64 How can I reference libSystem(or whatever library includes printf) using ld?

    hi, I want to learn hadoop. However, I don't have access to a cluster now. Is it possible for me to learn it and use it for writing programs and learn it properly. Would it be helpful to run multiple linux VMs and then use them as boxes to run hadoop?     I would like to know the number of users logged into my ASP.NET 2.0 application. Points to be considered: 1) Simplest way would be to use Application or Cache object to have the counts on Session start or end. However this would fail if there is a worker process recycle. Wouldn't it? 2) Should't make a difference whether the session is inproc/state server managed/ or SQL server managed. 3) Should preferably be seamless to a web-farm architecture.

    I am working on a solution that used DDD for architecture. I have a property in my ViewModel which points to a ValueObject, the view model also implements INotifyPropertyChanged interface. The value of the ValueObject will change as a user enters data on the front end. The problem I am running into is the value object is suppose to be immutable. How can I work around this issue? After paying a huge amount for a database, doing all the processing including batch at the app server and not using the power of the database seems to be a waste. I have a difficulty in convincing people that we need to use best of both worlds.

    I understand this is a subjective question and very likely could be closed, and although there is no right or wrong answer I do believe its a legitimate question. At what point do you no longer consider someone a beginner (ie knowledge of loops, encapsulation, instantiation), an intermediate (design patterns, reflection, delegates, interfaces) or an expert (architecture, multi-threadding). My rational for asking such a question is two-fold, first, when do I stop labeling my questions as beginner and during a job interview how should I categorize myself?
