  • How to copy files from shadow copy with long source path

    The files and folders in my shared network drive (set up with DFS) were mass deleted. Currently I am trying to recover the files from the shadow copy "Previous Version". Problem is, thousands of files are deeply nested with long paths making the file path too long. When copying, it shows the dialog "Source Path Too Long". My guess is that the file path just barely hits the limit when saved into the network drive, but shadaw copy service appends the date and time to the folders so the path character limit is exceeded. How else can I copy the files from shadow copy?

  • Word 2007 cannot open old doc files anymore

    Since last week I am unable to open old doc files with Microsoft Word 2007. Whenever I try that I first get a warning about converters being a security issue. (I can disable that in the registry). After accepting (or disabling) this warning, however, I just get the following error message: Unglütiger Datentyp (Word 6.0/95 für Windows & Macintosh which means in English: Invalid document type (Word 6.0/95 for Windows & Macintosh I tried to goolge both the German and the translated error message but did not find anything related. The files in question can be opened by other users for the windows terminal server without problems.

    I have difficulty open opening word and excel files suddenly. Only particular office file give me the problem. These files were previously scanned by combo fix and I believe they were damaged. The error response that I from office is Excel cannot open the file xxx.xlsx because the file format is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file. This is for excel and a similar kind of error response comes for word. The file looks fine. I mean the size vise... Please help me with this problem. I really appreciate your help and time....

  • Robocopy silently missing files

    I'm using Robocopy to sync data from our server's hard disk to an external disk as a backup. It's a pretty simple solution but pretty much the best/easiest one we could come up with - we use two external disks and rotate them offsite. Anyway, here's the script (with the comments taken out) that I'm using to do it. Robocopy is running as administrator so it's not a permissions issue. There's no trace these files were even attempted to be copied as there are no errors being output in the log or in my command prompt. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be?     Hi, I have Server1 Win2008 Storage Server Running DFS Access-based enumeration - off Offline settings - disabled Workstation1 WinXP SP3 32bit Workstation2 WinXP SP2 64bit I have a shared folder on Server1 on the DFS share. Workstation1 can see all files and folders. Workstation2 does not. I have tested with multiple WinXP 64bit PCs and the same files across these machines do not show up. Going directly to the files via the address bar works.

  • Logrotate Successful, original file goes back to original size

    Has anyone had any issues with logrotate before that causes a log file to get rotated and then go back to the same size it originally was?   • Decrypting Windows XP encrypted files from an old disk

    I had an old Windows XP machine with an encrypted directory. When moving to a new Win7 machine I connected the old disk as a slave in the new machine, and hence cannot access the encrypted files. Chances don't seem good as documentation warns you: "Do not Delete or Rename a User's account from which will want to Recover the Encrypted Files. You will not be able to de-crypt the files using the steps outlined above." On the other hand, I have full access to the machine, so maybe there's a utility which can extract the keys and use the to decrypt the files... BTW, I didn't have a password in the old machine, if it's relevant. Ideas, anyone? Thanks!

  • Bulk "open with" change on OS X 10.6

    I use Microsoft remote desktop to connect from my mac to the windows machine I work on. I have a directory with about 50 different rdp files. (The config files for each machine). They go changed to open with the remote desktop in Windows XP on Parallels. Is there a command I can use to change all those back to opening with the remote desktop on my Mac? I can use the right mouse click "Always open with" command, or the equivalent on the "Get Info" menu, but I would like to find a way to make that change in bulk. "Change All..." button on the "Get Info" menu does not have any effect.

    I want to minimize the amount of space my virtual disk is using, by zero'ing out the data on any deleted files. The virtual disk is a VDMK running ubuntu on VirtualBox. What is the best way to find any deleted files, and zero them out, so that when I export the appliance the disk size is only existing files on the disk?

  • Unable to open Infopath2007 files in Outlook 2010

    Our company recently began upgrading selected users to Outlook 2010, however we all still remain on Infopath 2007. Everything seems to be working fine for our users going from Infopath 2007 to Outlook 10. Where we are running into the problem is for our users who are on Outlook 10 talking to other users that are also on Outlook 10. When any user opens an Infopath file from a shared site, completes and submits it, and then choses to reply to it, our Outlook 10 folks can not open the emails. They pop open for just a second and close down. It also appears in their email list with a different icon. Any ideas on how to get our Outlook 2010 users to see all of their infopath emails?

    Im upgradeing my router from a netgear fvs318 one of the problems im running into is on the old net gear i have opend ports under the "Add Service " for our voip udp 69 tcp 80 tcp 2000 udp 22026-62025 but on the new linksys/cisco rotuer i don't see any option to just open a port i see port forwarding (which i dont want because i have more than one phone) and port triggering that i have no idea what that does. does anyone know either how to allow open ports on this router or how to use port tiggering to allow my phones to work with the ports listed above?

  • Run batch on files in a relative folder

    I have a windows batch script that runs a SOX command on various files, but I don't know how to get the batch to run on files in a relative path to that of the SOX executable. Currently all the files are in the root and it outputs to /combined. The Batch Script: cd %~dp0 mkdir combined FOR %%A IN (*.mp3) DO sox static.mp3 %%A "combined/%%~nxA" pause I want the script to run the sox command on files in the directory "audiotracks" and output it to the directory "combined". To give you an idea, this would be the desired folder structure: /root sox.exe batch.bat static.mp3 /audiotracks audio1.mp3 audio2.mp3 audio3.mp3 audio4.mp3 /combined audio1out.mp3 audio2out.mp3 audio3out.mp3 audio4out.mp3 Is this possible, or is there a better method of doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

    I've seen this but it doesn't work for me. I'm not using Git's version of bash but the one that comes with cygwin, so that could be part of the problem. Here is how I have my tab in Console2 set up: Title: bash.exe Shell: C:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe --login -i Startup dir: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% This is my registry entry: Directory shell Console2 Open Console2 Here command "C:\Console2\Console.exe" -d "%1" bash always starts in my home directory instead of the directory I'm clicking on, then I have to cd /cygdrive/d/code ... etc. I tried removing the value in the "Startup dir" field, changing it to %1, %1% with no luck.   • I disconnected my cellphone while transferring files to its Mini SD card. Now the files aren't there

    I use Ubuntu 9.10, and the MiniSD card shows as having the space used as if there were files. Baobab (the disk usage analyzer) shows that the card only has 118 MB used (of the 401 Ubuntu claims there are). Of course, I already tried the obvious (rebooting the phone, adding and removing files, etc.), but I don't want to format my card, because I still have some files on it, the transfer to my computer is slow, and because I use an old wire it fails often.

    In MS Word, by default, you can use: Ctrl+F4 to close Word Ctrl+W to close the current document Is it possible to make Word close when you close the last open document? For instance, in Chrome, if you keep hitting Ctrl+W you'll eventually close the last tab, which will also close Chrome. I'd like the same functionality with Word (and the other Office products) where I can just keep closing documents until I close the last one, at which point the application closes. Unfortunately, Ctrl+W doesn't close Word, even when there are no documents open.

    Hi, I need a software or simply an excel worksheet to schedule my employees. I have 16 lifeguards and 9 headguards, two of which act as coordinators one day a week. All employees cannot work more than 40 hours a week because of the provincial law. Furthermore, they must staff 6 beaches. Everybeach has different staffing needs. Furthermore, I would like the application to be able to to take into considerations all employees needs such as vacation days and prefered beaches. Finally I would like to create a staff rotation between beaches to encourage employee motivation. Is there an open source application for my needs available out there ?

  • Recovery files from a damage VM?

    After search and search again, my VM still can't recovery. Does somebody know how to retrieve the files from the VM? My VM is XP, it can't boot up anymore after my forced quit. In the Mac OS 10.6.2, I try to "get info" the VM file, I can see it is still using 25G space. I try to mount it with VMDK mounter (just right click the VM file and chose open with), it can mount but nothing inside. I also try to use filesalvage to recovery the files after mounted the VM, it can recovery many many files, but the files name and some document become to be symbol. What can I do now? Pls help me, thanks!

Also, this could be a good community wiki, I think. Well, what I am asking for, is: what are pros and cons of different methods to sharing files ofver local network? In my case, I need to share files between Linux & Win 7, and I want it to be secure (= without access for anyone else but me & people in my room). Another question (connected with above topic) is about playing music over the local network. Let's say, I live with 2 other guys in a room, one of us have speakers and we want to collaborate in creating playlists (e.g. everyone is choosing 3 songs to be played). Is it possible? How to do this? I am asking this question on SuperUser, because it (question) is connected with hardware & software (network, connecting computers, software for managing playlists in network etc.). I think it is most accurate place for such question (I have considered SO and SF). [1] And I have already done this! But, I do not have an experience in this field (sharing files over local network), do I am asking about pros and cons.

  • Compressing and copying large files on Windows Server?

    I've been having a hard time copying large database backups from the database server to a test box at another site. I'm open to any ideas that would help me get this database moved without having to resort to a USB hard drive and the mail. The database server is running Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise, 16 GB of RAM and two quad-core 3.0 GHz Xeon X5450s. Files are SQL Server 2005 backup files between 100 GB and 250 GB. The pipe is not the fastest and SQL Server backup files typically compress down to 10-40% of the original, so it made sense to me to compress the files first. I've tried a number of methods, including: gzip 1.2.4 (UnxUtils) and 1.3.12 (GnuWin) bzip2 1.0.1 (UnxUtils) and 1.0.5 (Cygwin) WinRAR 3.90 7-Zip 4.65 (7za.exe) I've attempted to use WinRAR and 7-Zip options for splitting into multiple segments. 7za.exe has worked well for me for database backups on another server, which has ~50 GB backups. I've also tried splitting the .BAK file first with various utilities and compressing the resulting segments. No joy with that approach either- no matter the tool I've tried, it ends up butting against the size of the file. Especially frustrating is that I've transferred files of similar size on Unix boxes without problems using rsync+ssh. Installing an SSH server is not an option for the situation I'm in, unfortunately.   • php.ini use multiple include paths - openbasedir restriction

    I need to allow an include path for a vhost subdomain on Plesk 10. I've edited the PHP PEAR path into /etc/php.ini as I'm happy for it to be globally available: include_path = ".:/usr/share/pear/" This works insofar as PHP is able to see the files in that directory when a script tries to include them, but I'm getting the dreaded openbasedir error: Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/share/pear/xxxx.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/xxxx.com/subdomains/test/httpdocs/:/tmp/) Am I right in saying that the subdomain or main domain can have a vhost.conf file in which I can alter the openbasedir allowed paths? I've tried searching out solutions but I'm afraid I can't quite see one yet :)

  • Get sessions' remote IP from Teamviewer log file

    I'd like to know who has logged in to my machine and when. I have two TeamViewer log files: Connections_incoming.txt and TeamViewer7_Logfile.log. The first one is quite plain and lists, as its name says, the incoming connections to the machine, reporting the local name of the remote host, login time, logout time, and some ids. e.g.: 173274362 MYLAPTOP 20-02-2012 17:32:16 20-02-2012 17:50:42 Master RemoteControl {C5AAE483-ED0B-54B8-9235-7AE597CAD342} This is almost all what I need, but unfortunately no remote IP address is reported here, so I checked for IPs in TeamViewer7_Logfile.log but it is really messy. It indeed contains some IP addresses but I can't understand which one is bound with the items in the first log file. Is there a way to interpolate the two logs to get what I need? Should I search the second file for some particular text? What do you suggest?
