• Mouse Not Working Properly

  I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 but for some reason the mouse isn't working properly. Problems I'm experiencing are: left button on the mouse doesn't work, the cursor doesn't highlight anything, as well, the right side will not do a double click function. Doesn't seem to bring up the mouse menu to "go back" as well, "go forward" options. In order to make things work, I have to use the Enter key, and arrow keys.

Should I make all constants global for readability and ease of use, or does it make sense to define constants as close to their scopes as possible (in a function, for instance, if it's not needed elsewhere)? I'm thinking mostly of error messages, error IDs, paths to resources or configuration options.

  so i have this jbod drive, with two different partition partition A is for windows while B i would like to have ubuntu 12.04 in it however at the end of ubuntu installation, there is an error stating grub failed to install and a fatal error. i was given option as to where to install the grub, and i tried them all and all giving me the same fatal error here is one example of options given /dev/mapper/nvidia_eeffaace1 to my knowledge grub is supposed to be installed in /dev/sda but in jbod configuration, both sda and sdb isnt available please help me and thank you

  I have a web service on Google App engine whose data is updated on a daily basis. To minimize bandwidth utilization from mobile clients connecting to it, I'd like to instead have an intermediary site where the clients will be getting their data from, and minimizing hits to my service to once or twice a day only. Is there such a service I can use? I'd like to explore this "pull" option first, before considering "push" options such as publishing to a blog site or a free website host that doesn't have bandwidth caps.

  I tried many already built Twitter clone scripts but none was having user-end functionality exactly as twitter. I know enough PHP to code all the twitter's features myself. But is there a faster way than coding myself? I've never used a CMS but if I do then won't I have to search a plugin for every twitter feature, like support for multiple users, options for following-unfollowing users, retweeting (reposting someone else's post), tagging? And I'm afraid that there might be some licensing issues with CMS.

• Still prompted for a password after adding SSH public key to a server

  I'm attempting to setup a git repository on my Dreamhost web server by following the "Setup: For the Impatient" instructions here. I'm having difficulty setting up public key access to the server. After successfully creating my public key, I ran the following command: cat ~/.ssh/[MY KEY].pub | ssh [USER]@[MACHINE] "mkdir ~/.ssh; cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" ...replacing the appropriate placeholders with the correct values. Everything seemed to go through fine. The server asked for my password, and, as far as I can tell, executed the command. There is indeed a ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the server. The problem: When I try to SSH into the server, it still asks for my password. My understanding is that it shouldn't be asking for my password anymore. What am I missing?   I purchased a new Samsung Series 7 laptop, Model: 700Z5B to be exact. I have everything working great using Ubuntu 11.10, the only issue is that the 2 finger scroll on the track pad does not work. Does anyone have any pointers for what I need to do to configure it. I've looked around on the forums and have not found anything that has worked yet. I don't even see the trackpad options under the mouse and touchpad settings area.

The font color of the Weather/Date applet is barely visible so I was wondering how I can change it. I Already tried to explore all the options shown in the menu when I right-click on the applet, but apparently there's no such feature. I can't seem to find any way to change the colour of hyperlinks as a whole.   Radio buttons operate in groups. They are used to present mutually exclusive lists of options. Since I started programming in Windows 20 years ago, I have always been frustrated about how they are implemented. To make them operate as a group, you put your radio buttons in a group box. Conversely, to group radio buttons in HTML, you simply give them all the same name. Radio buttons with the same name or ID in HTML operate as one mutually exclusive group of options. In C#, all your radio buttons must have unique names and you use group boxes to group them. I’m in the process of converting some old code to C# and I’m tasked with creating a user control with groups of radio buttons on it. I started out writing the traditional switch…case statements to check the appropriate radio button based upon value, loops to uncheck them all, etc. Then it occurred to me that I could stick the radio buttons in a Dictionary or List and use Lambda expressions to make my code a lot more maintainable. So, here is what I ended up with: Here is a dictionary that contains my list of radio buttons and their values. I used their values as the keys, so that I can select them by value. Now, instead of using loops and switch…case statements to control the radio buttons, I use the lambda syntax and extension methods. Selecting a Radio Button by Value This code is inside of a property accessor, so “value” represents the value passed into the property accessor. The “First” extension method uses the delegate represented by the lambda expression to select the radio button (actually KeyValuePair) that represents the passed in value. Finally, the resulting checkbox is checked. Since the radio buttons are in the same group, they function as a group, the appropriate radio button is selected while the others are unselected. Reading the Value This is the get accessor for the property that returns the value of the checked radio button. Now, if you’re using binding, this code is likely not necessary; however, I didn’t want to use binding in this case, so I think this is a good alternative to the traditional loops and switch…case statements.

• I get an "serious errors while checking the disk drives for /boot" error while booting

  I have just set up my new system by creating three partitions on a whole hard disk (/boot,/home,swap and /(root)) .I saw this article and now i am getting those errors and the system provide me with some options (I to ignore, S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery). I am forced to choose skip mounting because i don't know what manual recovery is. Despite the error i get i think that the system boots ok because i can use the system but this error is very annoying.
