• IIS6 Virtual Directory 500 Error on Remote Share

  We have our servers at the server farm in a domain. Let's call it LIVE. Our developer computers live in a completely separate corporate domain, miles and miles away. Let's call it CORP. We have a large central storage unit (unix) that houses images and other media needed by many webservers in the server farm. The IIS application pools run as (let's say) LIVE\MediaUser and use those credentials to connect to a central storage share as a virtual directory, retrieve the images, and serve them as if they were local on each server. The problem is in development. On my development machine. I log in as CORP\MyName. My IIS 6 application pool runs as Network Service. I can't run it as a user from the LIVE domain because my machine isn't (and can not be) joined to that domain. I try to create a virtual directory, point it to the same network directory, click Connect As, uncheck the "Always use the authenticated user's credentials when validating access to the network directory" checkbox so that I can enter the login info, enter the credentails for LIVE\MediaUser, click OK, verify the password, etc. This doesn't work. I get "HTTP Error 500 - Internal server error" from IIS. The IIS log file reports sc-status = 500, sc-substatus = 16, and sc-win32-status = 1326. The documentation says this means "UNC authorization credentials are incorrect" and the Win32 status means "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." This would be all and good if it were anywhere close to accurate. I double- and trouble-checked it. Tried multiple known good logins. The IIS manager allows me to view the file tree in its window, it's only the browser that kicks me out. I even tried going to the virtual directory's Directory Security tab, and under Authentication and Access Control, I tried using the same LIVE domain username for the anonymous access credential. No luck. I'm not trying to run any ASP, ASP.NET, or other dynamic anything out of the virtual directory. I just want IIS to be able to load static images, css, and js files. If anyone has some bright ideas I would be most appreciative!

• Backup server (OSX) like time machine to backup remote ubuntu 12.04 server [on hold]

  I've searched my ass of for an good solution to backup my ubuntu server thats in a datacenter. Local we have an osx server with some external drives attached to it. This is for the local working stations that handle timemachine. What i like to do is fetch the files (or mount the root of my ubuntu server) and make an time machine backup from it. I just have one problem that if my osx server crashes i can't put back the system because it contains not only the osx server but also the ubuntu server from the data center. I've used Back in time on ubuntu to do the exact same thing but this was to Ubuntu (local) from Ubuntu (datacenter). So does anybody has an solution? Here are my requirements: Set time intervals for backups; need to be backed up nightly. Set time intervals for keeping backups; hourly, weekly, monthy etc Able to back up all computers and servers from an offsite location the local osx server (10.9). Manageable from that one location to login with ssh to do rsync or rsnapshot Has a GUI (osx) Act like time machine, backup only the files that has been changed. Restore to a point back in time.

• Computer speakers receive radio station signal

  I have a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers where each speaker and the source plug into the subwoofer. I'm using a Griffin Firewave with output from my MacBook Pro, and output from my custom-built desktop with a switch in the middle (built it myself out of an old Belkin A/B parallel switch). Recently, I've noticed that I can hear a local Punjabi radio station being picked up by my speakers, and the volume of this interference increases as I increase the volume of the speakers. I'm fairly sure that this radio station is at the low-end of the FM spectrum, below 90MHz (or it may be at the high end, above 105MHz, my memory isn't infallible). It gets quite annoying as I can't put my audio very loud without the interference. I've tried to put a ferrite core on the input cable just before the 3.5mm jacks plug into the subwoofer. I don't know if putting the same core around all three of the cables (green, black, orange) would negate the effects, but I'm assuming not. There has been no change. Is there any reason why this would be happening? I'm assuming the interference is coming somewhere between the FireWave and the subwoofer, because the noise gets amplified with volume increases. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be grateful!

  Can I use secedit.exe to export out the "Security Options" from the local security policy and then import them on another machine? I'm trying to do this on Windows Server 2008. Update I just tried with: secedit /export /db C:\andy.db /cfg C:\andy.inf /areas SECURITYPOLICY /log C:\andy.log But it didn't work with error: Warning 2: The system cannot find the file specified. Error opening C:\andy.db. Where do I get the DB file from?

• Do I need liquid cooling?

  I'm building a computer mainly for gaming and developing games. It's going to be a three screen system with two GeForce GTX 460's and a quad-core i7. The newegg wattage calculator says I need around 900W. The case I intend to get is this one. Full specs if you need 'em are at the end of this post. I have no intentions to overclock the system at the moment, but this may change in the future. I've done a lot of research on the subject, and the answers I've found indicate that it takes a heck of a lot of power to require liquid cooling, and most non-overclocked systems don't need it. But I haven't seen a question about a system with two GPU's, so I ask you the following two questions: Assuming that the system is used for gaming for very extended periods of time (say 4-6 hours at a time, nonstop) with all three screens running at full 1080p, would the fans installed in the system suffice? Or would I need more fans and/or liquid cooling? If the system is used under the same circumstances as above, and is overclocked to a reasonable level, would the fans installed in the system suffice? • Wamp virtualhost with supporting of remote access

  To cut the long story short, I've setup a Wamp server with local virtual host for domain like sample.dev, now I've bind my static IP and port 80 to my Apache and asked the client to make some changes in his hosts file and add x.x.x.x sample.dev , I've also configured my httpd virtual host like this : <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAlias sample.dev DocumentRoot 'webroot_directory' </VirtualHost> Client can reach to my web server using the direct access by ip address, but when he tries using the sample domain looks like he gets in to some infinite loop. The firewall is off too. What would be the problem?! Thanks.

• Why does my computer crash randomly?

  The other day I went out to my van to get my Tower and when I opened the trunk it fell out. I brought it into the house and opened it, and everything looked ok. When I started it up, about 1-3 minutes afterwards it would crash. It did this over and over until I reseated the cooler. Everything seemed normal again, until after about 10 minutes of gameplay (any game), it would crash. I reseated my GPU + reinstalled the drivers, however I still get the same error. A while back, I'd check my 'Windows Rating' periodically, and all of them were in the '6.0-6.9' range except for my hard disk usage (always been like that [not relative]). Today I went in and looked, and my Processor and Memory was rated 5.4. I reseated my cpu and my memory, refreshed the windows rating, and then my processor and memory went from 5.4, to 5.1. A few minutes ago I reseated them once again, and now it's back to 5.4. Note: Not sure if this is relevant to the issue, but I updated my bios earlier today I honestly have no idea what the issue is, but I'm getting aggravated at the problem.   I have Windows 7 Home Premium Blackberry Curve 9300 6.0 bundle 1478 (v6.0.0.380, platform 6.6.0.86) desktop software 6.0.0.380 I was able to connect with desktop software version 5 but 6 does not work. I am able to connect to the internet just fine with the device itself (ie can browse the web). How can I debug this? update: here's the error message: when i try to connect i get the message "failed to start mobile internet. the specified port is not open. please check your profile settings and make sure your radio is turned on. this service might also have been turned off by your wireless service provider or your administrator"

• New Computer freezing up at random

  Since I built my system about 4 weeks ago I'v been getting random freezes, Sometimes it can happen directly after startup and sometimes it wont freeze up for 3-4 days of 24/7 running. It seems to be happening under all stress loads but mainly when the CPU is under 10% load. It doesn't give me a BSOD or anything, it simply just freezes and repeats the last sound before the freeze until I shut it down by the power button. I'v re-seated everything in the system except the CPU, Cleaned the RAM sockets and gold fittings. None of the components have been clocked above their factory settings as of yet, don't want to overclock them until I sort out these freezes. Temps are all well under the rated max temps, the highest the temps have been are below CPU: Low load: 16-21°C Full Load (100%) 40-43°C *(From HWMonitor by CPUID) GPU 1: Low Load: 25-30°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C GPU 2: Low Load: 23-27°C Full Load (100%): 45-50°C *(GPU Temps from Catalyst Control Center) General Case temps Rear: 18-20°C Mid: 20-21°C Front (HDD/SSD Bays): 14-19°C (Case temps may be a little off as it's from the Kaze master pro fan controller) I have Un-installed EVERY driver for Motherboard, GPU & Soundcard and Re-installed twice. Windows is all up to date. To date i'v tried the following Running Memtest for 24 hrs straight, No errors Running Memtest on each individual RAM modules, No errors Reseated everything except the CPU Cleaned DIMM Sockets and Gold inputs Tested the Graphics cards 1 at a time Re-arranged all the SATA devices to run on Chipset controlled ports Re-installing all drivers OS: Win7 Professional 64bit Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme9 CPU: i7 3930k 3.2GHz GPU: Sapphire 7950 OC Edition V2 (2 card Crossfire) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 Boot Drive: OCZ Agility 4 128GB Data Drive 1: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 2: Western Digital Black 2TB Data Drive 3: Western Digital Green 3TB Power Supply: Corsair AX1200 Gold

• A Domain Admin user doesn't have effective Administrative rights on a Domain Computer

  I am a developer who is setting up a virtual domain environment of testing purposes and am having trouble with the setup. I have created a new DC on a new Forest... call it dev.contoso.com. I have setup a virtual internal network for all machines that are going to be apart of this virtual test environment and have given each machine a static IP address in the 192.169.150.0 subnet. I have added machine1.dev.contoso.com to the domain dev.contoso.com. I have also provisioned a user account (adminuser) in the domain and made that user a member of Domain Admins group. Upon logging into machine1 using my newly created Domain Admin account, I cannot access/run any files on machine1. When I go into the advanced permissions for the c:\ folder and goto properties - Security Tab - Advanced - Effective Permissions and search for the dev\adminuser (mentioned above), I get an error saying: Windows can't calculate the effective permissions for admin user What do I need to do to get Administrative rights on Machine1? I am using Server 2008 R2 for both the AD controller and machine1.

• Windows 7: Computer does not enter automatic standby

  My Windows 7 PC is set to automatically enter standby ("sleep mode") after 30 minutes. For some reason it stopped working a few days ago (it keeps on running). Is there some systematic way to determine what is preventing the system from automatically entering sleep mode after the designated idle time? Manually sending the machine to sleep works fine. The monitor also enters power save mode automatically, so the "idling detection" of Windows seems to work fine.

• Can't access internet using a domain joined computer outside the domain environment

  We had an unused box at work so took it home. It had been joined to the domain and hasn't been unjoined. When I try to use it at home (logging in with a local admin account) I can't seem to access internet pages. It gets correct IP and gateway for the local network and correct DNS servers for the home ADSL connection. I can happily ping the home router (which doesn't have any tricky firewall settings). Can't seem to ping outside, get any DNS to resolve, or (obviously) get any web pages. Is there some problem here with this having been joined to the domain?

• Clone remote CentOS server to local test server?

  We have a dedicated server running ContOS 5.5. The server runs our Magento store and a basic php website with mysql. I have a spare rack server in my office (HP ProLiant DL360 G4) that has more than enough storage space to store a duplicate of our dedicated server. I would like to clone the dedicated server entirely and have a local duplicate. It wouldn't need to be kept in sync because I can do that with GIT. The reason I want to do this is simple; learn more about the dedicated server and CentOS. Is this possible? I have SSH access to the dedicated server and obviously complete access to the local server.

• How to plug power/reset buttons from case to motherboard leads?

  I have a motherboard I salvaged from a pre-assembled computer. Except now I'm trying to use it in my own custom build. The problem is, this motherboard doesn't have any documentation because it was never meant to be used by consumers (as far as I know). I need to plug in my case's power/reset/hdd-light plugs into the motherboard. I usually check the documentation of the board to see which leads go to what connector, but I have no documentation for the board. So, as I see it, I have two options: I find the documentation (I've emailed gateway customer service, but I'm unsure of how successful I'll be with that). I simply test the leads one after the other (can this cause damage if plugged into the wrong leads?) However, there might even be a standard for which leads do what action (I'm not sure about this). For reference, my motherboard's SN/MD (?) is: H57M01G1-1.1-8EKS3H Does anyone have any idea if I can find documentation or find another way to be sure if my connections are correct?

• Routing internet through ethernet to a computer without a Wireless adapter

  I'm setting up a small home network. I have a laptop which connects to internet wirelessly- that works fine. I have a desktop connected to this laptop by an ethernet cable which I'd like to access the internet with. In the past, I have used a different laptop to do this and had no problems doing so. Both computers run Windows 7. I have tried setting up a homegroup and disabling Windows firewall, as well as restarting both computers. I can share data but my internet connection can not be accessed through the desktop. (I understand USB network adapters are cheap, I have one on the way but that doesn't solve this issue.) Any help or live chat support if you'd prefer would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Computer loses all installed programs and appears to return OS-only state

  This is a story regarding 3 laptops of different brand and models. On separate occassions, I configured each of these Windows 7 / Vista computers with the necessary configuration and applications (which are supposedly the same actually), e.g. join office domain, same windows updates, microft office etc. These machinese were configure in our office in Singapore, and then they were taken to India for use. Someday in India, when booting up the laptop, all went fine except when it reach the log in screen, it was no longer possible to login with domain credentials. Logging into the laptop local admin account will lead to discover that the machine has returned to "OS-only state". All the configurations and applications were gone. The actual user profiles are still in the C: drive so files can still be retrieved, but under Control Panel Uninstall Programs it is evident that at least the registry is corrupted. The above scenario happen to the first 2 laptops. For the third, the system reports "Operating System Not Found" on boot up. I cannot think of any reason except to suspect a power fluctuation issue. Question is, will a power issue create this behaviour? What else can cause this issue?

• Cant access a remote server due mistake by setting firewall rule

  I need help due a my silly mistake! So for long time i have a dedicate server hosted by register.it Usually i access remotly to this server (Windows 2008 server) by Terminal Server. Today i wanted to block one site that continually send request to my server. So i was adding a new rule in the firewall (the native firewall on windows 2008 server), as i did many time, but this time, probably i was sleeping with my brain i add a general rules that stop everything! So i cant access to the server anymore, as no any users can browse the sites, nothing is working because this rule block everything. I know that is a silly mistake, no need to tell me :) so please what i can do ? The only 1 thing that my provider let me is reboot the server by his control panel, but this not help me in any way because the firewall block me again. i have administrator username and password, so what i really can do ? there are some trick some tecnique, some expert guru that can help me in this very bad situation ?   In our domain I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine "GWY" with the Network Policy and Access Services role installed. From this machine I can open the Network Policy Server management console to administer this role. However, I have another Server 2008 R2 machine "WKS" in the domain where we have all the management consoles installed so we can manage all the servers from one location. I cannot find how to access the Network Policy Server console on this machine though.

• Application losing Printer within Terminal Services for remote users

  Question: What I need to do is have a permanent link to a printer, normally only accessible through Terminal Services (Printer Redirect), to allow Sage Line 50 layouts to see that printer persistently, even after users have disconnected and reconnected to the Terminal Services session? Although the printer is accessible each time a user connects to the Sage Server via Terminal Services, it is given a different session number and therefore the Sage Layout sees it as a different printer. History behind question: Users using Terminal Services connecting to a Sage Server on a different site Using Sage Line 50 v 15 on that Server Users want to print invoices (sage layouts) locally Sage Server cannot see the users local printers, to get around this user uses the Print redirect features of Terminal Services The individual reports can be edited to point to a specific printer by default. This means the user just has to select an invoice and click print, then select the layout/report wanted and it auto prints that invoice to the default printer specified. The problem occurs because the layouts are edited to point to the users local printer "Ricoh 1018d (session#)", note the "(session#)" as this is the users local printer being redirected through the terminal services session. Users are able to print using the sage layouts once the default printer is setup within the layout and saved, but as soon as the users disconnects from the Terminal Services session and then reconnect in the morning go to print, it has lost the connection to that printer. I understand why its failed, because that the printer is on a per session basis and the layout would not be able to hold on to the connection from a previous session. • Issue resolving names on Hyper-V guest with Routing and Remote Access

  I've got a Win2k8 standard server running Hyper-V with a Server 2003 web guest instance running. The host is publicly available on the internet. I've created an Internal Private network in the Hyper-V Virtual Network manager. I've set the host IP for that virtual adapter to 192.168.0.1. I've set the IP on the guest to 192.168.0.2. They can ping each other and share files. I can't browse the web on the guest though. NSLOOKUPs are working. I've tried setting the DNS server setting on the guest to 192.168.0.1 and something external like Google's 8.8.8.8 server to no avail. Windows firewall is disabled on the internal virtual network. I've tried it with both DNS installed on the host and without it. I'm not sure which RRAS/NAT settings are relevant to pass on so ask if you need me to clarify anything. How do I get outbound internet working on the guest VM?
