• VS2005 and VSS. Should .exes, .dlls, pdbs, .resource and generated .xml files go in VSS?

  It seems like the following type of files need to be writable to be able to compile a solution. .exe .dll .pdb (if debugging) .resource (?) .xml (at least the system generated ones. I'm not sure if they are just all XML documentationf iles) If they were checked in and could only be overwritten by the compiler by the person who had them checked out, then checking them into sourcesafe and requiring a checkout to modify them, which is attemtped by the compiler each time you run, would interfer with other developer's ability to debug and run. What is the best practice? It seems like VSS automatically adds everything.

• Recognizing the source of Facebook application user

  Hello, When serving an iframe application in Facebook, is there anyway I can know when a user visits my site through Facebook as an application or if he reached the site directly (typed my domain URL in the browser)? I know I can check if the user has a cookie (named "u") which tells me that the user used facebook to get an access_token. However, if the user visited the application one minute ago and got the access_token cookie, but then typed the URL in the browser, checking for the existence of the cookie will return TRUE, although the visitor arrived to the site directly. • C# move file as soon as it becomes available.

  Hi, I need to accomplish the following task: Attempt to move a file. If file is locked schedule for moving as soon as it becomes available. I am using File.Move which is sufficient for my program. Now the problems are that: 1) I can't find a good way to check if the file I need to move is locked. I am catching System.IO.IOException but reading other posts around I discovered that the same exception may be thrown for different reasons as well. 2) Determining when the file gets unlocked. One way of doing this is probably using a timer/thread and checking the scheduled files lets say every 30 seconds and attempting to move them. But I hope there is a better way using FileSystemWatcher. This is a .net 3.5 winforms application. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for attention.

  I have a minor problem while checking for elements in a list: I have two files with contents something like this file 1: file2: 47 358 47 48 450 49 49 56 50 I parsed both files into two lists and used the following code to check for i in file_1: for j in file_2: j = j.split() if i == j[1]: x=' '.join(j) I am now trying to get a "0" if the value of file_1 is not there in file_2 for example, value "48" is not there is file_2 so I need to get the output like (with only one space in between the two numbers): output_file: 358 47 0 48 450 49 56 50 I tried using the dictionary approach but I didn't quite get what I wanted (actually I don't know how to use dictionary in python correctly ;)). Any help will be great.

  In JavaScript I can do this: function f() {} f.prop = "property"; I want this in TypeScript, but with type checking. What TypeScript pattern can I use to enforce that a function gets a property? Could I use an interface? interface functionWithProperty { (): any; prop: string; } This seems to be a valid interface in TypeScript, but how do I implement this interface such that the TypeScript compiler checks that prop is set? I saw this example: var f : functionWithProperty = (() => { var _f : any = function () { }; _f.prop = "blah"; return _f; }()); But this doesn't work because I can remove _f.prop = "blah"; and everything will still compile. I need to enforce that prop is set.

• Using multiple databases within one application (ASP.NET MVC, LINQ to SQL)

  I have a web application made for several groups of people not connected with each other. Instead of using one database for all of them, I'm thinking about making separate databases. This will improve the speed of the queries and make me free from checking to what group the user belongs. But since I'm working with LINQ to SQL, my classes are explicitly connected with the databases, so I will have to make separate DataContexts for all of the databases. So how can I solve this problem? Or should I just not bother and use one database only?

  What's the cheapest way for a JavaScript like setTimeout-function in C++? I would need this: 5000 miliseconds from now, start function xy (no parameters, no return value). The reason for this is I need to initialize COM for text to speech, but when I do it on dll attach, it crashes. It works fine however if I do not call CoInitialize from dllmain. I just need to call CoInitialize and CoCreateInstance, and then use the instance in other functions. I can catch the uninitialized instance by checking for NULL, but I need to initialize COM - without crashing.

• How to inline string.h function on linux?

  I want to optimize some code such that all the functions in string.h will be inlined. I'm on x86_64. I've tried -O3, -minline-all-stringops and when I do "nm a.out" it shows it is calling the glibc version. Checking with gcc -S, I see the calls. What am I missing?   I am writing a sql query creator using some parameters. While doing that ,I came across this problem. In java , Its very easy to detect the last element of an array from inside the for loop by just checking the current array position with the array length. for(int i=0; i< arr.length;i++){ boolean isLastElem = i== (arr.length -1) ? true : false; } php has some different fashion. They have non integer indexes to access arrays. So you must iterate over an array using foreach loop. But it becomes very problematic when you need to take some decision (in my case to append or/and parameter while building query). I am sure there must be some standard way of doing this. How do you solve this problem normally in php ?

• 500 error on https, site loads fine [closed]

  Using http://web-sniffer.net/, I'm seeing a 500 internal error when accessing the https://www version of my site (https://moblized.com). However that URL loads perfectly fine with no errors. I was checking this because Google Webmaster is showing a bunch of 500 errors on my site. Also just noticed that I get a 200 success error if sniffing with HTTP 1.0, but a 500 with HTTP 1.1 Note: All other URL versions 301 redirect to https://www, eg. http://www , https:// , http:// FIXED: For any curious parties, there was one PHP bug that was causing a fatal error, but was still allowing the page to load. Turning on php_debug helped...

• C# Count registry keys existing using a partial value

Would I be able to search the registryPath variable above and get a count of the number of keys containing the "Entry Point" keyword? Assuming that there are also other keys existing without this keyword.   Hey All, I am about to begin a project for a new client, and am worried about a few things concerning data usage on their internet plan. We're in an area where most of the major networks don't cover the area, and the ones that do, have very expensive plans, with very low data allowance per month. I need to develop an app, but part of the problem lies with checking database values every 30 seconds. It's pretty important that this check is happening every 30 seconds, as the database is actually updated all day everyday, approx. every 5seconds (apparently). Each row in the database consists of about a page full of text if you were to paste it into MS Word. So, are there any logical ways of minimizing data usage in my case, and also how am I able to see exactly how much data is used just to establish a connection to the database? Are there any tools for this kind of info? Thanks :)

  I'm thinking of making a little web tool for analyzing the search engine optimization and web accessiblity of a whole website. First of all, this is just a private tool for now. Crawling a whole website takes up alot of resources and time. I've found out that wget is the best option for downloading the markup for a whole site. I plan on using PHP/MySQL (maybe even CodeIgniter), but I'm not quite sure if that's the right way to do it. There's always someone who recommends Python, Ruby or Perl. I only know PHP and a little bit Rails. I've also found a great HTML DOM parser class in PHP on SourceForge. But, the thing is, I need some feedback on what I should and should not do. Everything from how I should make the crawl process to what I should be checking for in regards to SEO and WCAG. So, what comes to your mind when you hear this?

It will always be powered by Chrome. I have thought of... Checking User Agent for Chrome Ensuring resolution is 1920 x 1080 (not that useful as it is a client side check) Banning under robots.txt to keep Google out of it Do you have any more suggestions?   I'm in this project: A web page that's gonna be used by the front-end company people to query and update data from a SQL DB. I'm working with visual studio and the code behind (C#) is almost done, so the interactions between SQL and C# and ok. My original idea was to work with ASP.NET which is familiar to me, but that's not gonna be possible. I have to switch to PHP. So, today is my first day learning PHP, checking http://php.net/manual/en/index.php and a lot of things seem quite similar to ASP.NET so I guess it won't be that hard. Anyways, some questions popped up quite fast as I wanted to script something else than a "hello world" . Is there an easy way to get/send C# variables from my class using a php page? I've read soemthing about using XML in order to do so, but still I'm scratching my head, is there another, easier, way to do this?

I wanna create a usb driver, so my own C application be able to get into my flash drive and take information from the imported flash drive. • Looking for alternatives to the database project.

  I've a fairly large database project which contains nine databases and one database with a fairly large schema. This project takes a large amount of time to build and I'm about to pull my hair out. We'd like to keep our database source controlled, but having a hard getting the other devs to use the project and build the database project before checking in just because it takes so long to build. It is seriously crippling our work so I'm look for alternatives. Maybe something can be done with Redgate's SQL Compare? I think maybe the only drawback here is that it doesn't validate syntax? Anyone's thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated.

  Is there a quick way to validate a single form field with CodeIgniter to see whether or not that field matches a set of rules? There's the $this-form_validation-run();, but that will return either TRUE or FALSE for the whole form, and that's just not what I'm looking for. For example, if I only wanted to check if the email was valid, checking the whole form is not going to get me the result I'm looking for. I looked through the documentation but couldn't find anything like $this-form_validation-run(); that accepts one parameter and returns TRUE or FALSE if it's valid.

  In my web application, users can download a .tar.gz archive containing the app files. However, because the MySQL database won't have been configured then, the user needs to run the install script located in ./install. I "catch" the user upon first run of the app by checking to see if the ./install directory exists. If so, the index.php page redirects the user to the install script. However, I was wondering if there were a more elegant way to "catch" a user upon first-run of a program. Someone on IRC suggested the web-server create a file .installed upon completion, but because the web server might not have write privileges to the web root directory, I can't rely on that. How would you go about solving this problem, or is my solution workable?
