• How do I make a project built into a downloadable Cd?

  hi all I just got finished making my first project in visual studio 2008. what I want to do is put it on a CD and let another person run it. I went to the clean and build and publish and all went well. When I took it to my friends house to put it on her computer..i never got a "download" and "install" screen. We were able to see it and use it on her computer (which is good cuz she doesnt have Visual on her machine) but I wanted her to be able to use it without keeping the CD in the drive. Is there some setup or something I have to do to make my program download and install? The whole shibang was all done with starting a new windows application..and then just adding windows forms to the original. Thanks :)

• Is it possible to retrieve only a single property from a CSS class?

  Example CSS File: .testClass { color: black; background: red; } Now in an HTML file, I would like to have something like <span class="testClass:color">Text in black but without red background</span> to only apply the color property of that class. Is there a way to do this? The purpose behind it (for people asking themselves "Why the hell would he want that, that's not clean CSS usage!") is that I use jQuery UI themes, and I would like the entire page to fit a theme upon change. As not all kinds of elements (e.g. the color of a link) are covered by those themes, in those cases I would like to "steal" the color property (but not more) of some other CSS class of the jQuery UI theme. If there is another way to do this, of course I'm glad to hear it as well!

• Debug.writeline locks

  My program frequently stops with a deadlock. When I do a break-all and look at the threads I see that three threads are stuck in our logging function: public class Logging { public static void WriteClientLog(LogLevel logLevel, string message) { #if DEBUG System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(String.Format("{0} {1}", DateTime.Now.ToString("HH:mm:ss"), message)); //LOCK #endif //...Log4net logging } } If I let the program continue the threads are still stuck on that line. I can't see where this can lock. The debug class, string class & datetime class seem to be thread safe. The error goes away when I remove the "#if DEBUG System... #endif" code but I'm curious why this behavior happens. • Android/Java Javadoc missing after updating Android SDK

  After i recently installed the new Android SDK stuff, I no longer can view the Javadoc while editing my project's code. I get this message: Note: This element has no attached source and the Javadoc could not be found in the attached Javadoc. I am getting this message for all methods, variables, classes, etc. I have installed the documentation and everything available to me via the android update manager. I have also tried to do a clean install of the android sdk and eclipse, and no luck getting the javadoc working. I have also tried manually setting the javadoc via project properties -> javadoc location -> file:/C:/Program Files/Android/android-sdk-windows/docs/reference/ with no luck What suggestions do you have that could fix this problem?

• Create empty C# event handlers automatically

  It is not possible to fire an event in C# that has no handlers attached to it. So before each call it is necessary to check if the event is null. if ( MyEvent != null ) { MyEvent( param1, param2 ); } I would like to keep my code as clean as possible and get rid of those null checks. I don't think it will affect performance very much, at least not in my case. MyEvent( param1, param2 ); Right now I solve this by adding an empty inline handler to each event manually. This is error prone, since I need to remember to do that etc. void Initialize() { MyEvent += new MyEvent( (p1,p2) => { } ); } Is there a way to generate empty handlers for all events of a given class automatically using reflection and some CLR magic?

• Pretty-print HTML via PHP without validation?

  I'd like to automatically pretty-print (indentation, mostly) the HTML output that my PHP scripts generate. I've been messing with Tidy, but have found that in its efforts to validate and clean my code, Tidy is changing way too much. I know Tidy's intentions are good but I'm really just looking for an HTML beautifier. Is there a simpler library out there that can run in PHP and just do the pretty-printing? Or, is there a way to configure Tidy to skip all the validation stuff and just beautify?

• jQuery infinite loop w/ tablesorter

  Got myself in a funny situation: page has three tables. Using sortEnd, any time you sort one table, it sorts the other three. However, since I bound sortEnd to the function that does the sorting, you get a infinite loop of sorting/resorting. • R.java doesn't exist...but it does! Problem started after installing ADT 10.0.0

  I get this error when I try to clean a project: ERROR: Unable to open class file ....R.java: No such file or directory So I can't build my projects any more. But R.java is there in the gen folder and looks fine when I open it. This happens to every one of my projects. I tried completely deleting the Eclipse folder and reinstalling it (Helios on Windows) and Android ADT. No luck. I have also tried moving my workspace to a different drive. No luck. I made sure all folders in my workspace are not read only. This worked the first time, but immediately the error came back when I cleaned my project. This all started right after installing ADT 10.0. I am wondering if it somehow is building R.java as a read-only file. EDIT: Is deleting the eclipse directory sufficient to reset all of its configuration?

• Ruby on Rails Increment Counter in Model

  I'm attempting to increment a counter in my User table from another model. class Count < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user after_create :update_count def update_count user = User.find(self.user_id) user.increment(:count) end end So when count is created the goal would be to increment a counter column for that user. Currently it refuses to get the user after creation and I get a nil error. I'm using devise for my Users Is this the right (best practice) place to do it? I had it working in the controllers, but wanted to clean it up. I'm very inexperienced with Model callbacks.

• Why doesn't functools.partial return a real function (and how to create one that does)?

  So I was playing around with currying functions in Python and one of the things that I noticed was that functools.partial returns a partial object rather than an actual function. One of the things that annoyed me about this was that if I did something along the lines of: five = partial(len, 'hello') five('something') then we get TypeError: len() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given) but what I want to happen is TypeError: five() takes no arguments (1 given) Is there a clean way to make it work like this? • how to get stl map to construct/destruct inserted object only once.

  I have found a very prejudicial fact about stl maps. For some reason I cant get objects being inserted in the map to get constructed/destructed only once. • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

  My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it? • What language should I learn to make 2D turn-based video games?

  I want to make 2 dimensional turn-based games for the PC. Something like early Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. Is C++ the only plausible option? I keep getting told that C++ is the language of choice for games, but is this the case even for 2D, turn-based games? Are any other languages good for this sort of thing? I'm really big on clean, readable, extendible code, so a language that fosters that sort of thing would be great. Doing this for fun, not business. Java is the only language I really know well right now. By the way, this is my first question and I'm a noob. I read the FAQ, but if I'm doing anything noobish anyway, then I'm sorry.

• How can I read out the CSS text via Javascript as defined in the stylesheet?

  I was thinking of using Javascript to automatically transform CSS3 attributes like border-radius, transform, box-shadow, etc. to their browser specific counterparts. I did some research and found that you can iterate over the stylesheets defined via document.styleSheets. You can find the CSS rules via document.styleSheets[0].cssRules[0].cssText. I want to modify the CSS rules that contain CSS3 attributes by injecting the browser specific attributes with the appropriate vendor-prefix, like -webkit-border-radius, moz-border-radius, etc. However, it seems that the cssText property is preprocessed in each browser, to filter out CSS attributes that it doesn't understand. That practically breaks this idea. Question: is there any way to retrieve the CSS text exactly as defined in the stylesheet? Or: is there another way to accomplish this via Javascript? I'd like to maintain clean CSS files without the need for defining each attribute multiple times for each specific browser.

• Passing URIs as URL arguments in Drupal 6

  I'm running into problems trying to pass absolute URIs as parameters with clean URLs enabled. I've got hook_menu() set up like this: function mymodule_menu() { return array( 'page/%' = array( 'title' = 'DBpedia Display Test', 'page callback' = 'mymodule_dbpedia_display', 'page arguments' = array(1), ), ); } and in the page callback: function mymodule_dbpedia_display($uri) { // Make an HTTP request for this URI // and then render some things return $output; } What I'm hoping to do is somehow pass full URIs (e.g. "http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee") to my page callback. I've tried a few things and nothing's worked so far... http://mysite.com/page/http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Completely breaks Drupal's rewriting http://mysite.com/page/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Gives a 404 http://mysite.com/page/http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee Returns just "http:", which makes sense I could probably use $_GET to pull out the whole query string, but I guess I'm hoping for a more 'Drupal' solution. Any suggestions?

• Mercurial - How do you export your repo's source to a production site?

  I've tried using archive in Tortoise HG by opening my repo change log. This doesn't seem to be anything like SVN's export command, where I can simply export a remote repository to the current directory. I use this to get a clean copy of my source for production (without notes and repository data). How can I do something like this in HG? Or, should I just use clone and deal with the repo related data manually? BTW, I need to do this all via command line since I'm not going to be using Tortoise HG on my Linux server. Any help is much appreciated.

  I am just beginning to develop for Android. The tutorial book I am using uses the code below, but, put simply, it does not work. As I've searched for an answer, I find that none of the solutions people say have rid them of this error have worked for me. Here is a list of methods that did not work. -Cleaning: It just said it couldn't clean until I resolved the error. -Building the Project: It built it, but the error did not go away. -Deleting import R: The error did not go away. -Renaming import R to import me.package.R: The error persisted. • Build multiple sources into multiple targets in a directory

I'm learning about GNU-Make and I have the following project structure: ~/projects /sysCalls ex1.c ex2.c ex3.c ex4.c ex5.c ex6.c ex7.c Each .c source is very simple, has its own main function and must be built into a corresponding binary (preferably named after its source). But I want to build into a bin directory (added to my .gitignore file). My current Makefile is: CC := gcc CFLAGS := -Wall -g SRC := $(wildcard *.c) TARGET := $(SRC:.c=) all: bin $(TARGET) mv $(TARGET) bin/ bin: mkdir bin clean: rm -fr bin/ It works as expected, but always builds every source. And I don't like moving everything to bin "manually". Any tips or ideas on how this Makefile could be improved?

• Few files out of sync but GIT doesn't seem to notice.

  I have two repos that claim to be clean. One was originally cloned from the other and is used for dev work. There are a few files that I can see are not the same. However when I try pulling either way it says everything is up to date. How is this possible? Did that file miss a commit somehow? ...but shouldn't the difference be noticed regardless? Do I need a refresh of some sort?

  Hi there I made the mistake of using == for comparing IP addresses instead of using the equals() method of the IPAddress class in C#, which will result in the comparison of references instead of values. Since the solution I am currently working on is very large for a one-man project ( 100.000 lines of source code), I am very sure that I still have some of these wrong statements in my code. Is there any possibility to tell Visual Studio to find all occurrences of == operations on a specific class for me, so that I can find and clean up the bugged comparisons? with best regards, emi

  Assume I have a cooperative scheduler in an embedded environment. I have many processes running. I want to utilize the watchdog timer so that I can detect when a process has stopped behaving for any reason and reset the processor. In simpler applications with no RTOS I would always touch the watchdog from the main loop and this was always adequate. However, here, there are many processes that could potentially hang. What is a clean method to touch the watchdog timer periodically while ensuring that each process is in good health? I was thinking that I could provide a callback function to each process so that it could let another function, which oversees all, know it is still alive. The callback would pass a parameter which would be the tasks unique id so the overseer could determine who was calling back.

  This is a great regular expression for dates... However it hangs indefinitely on this one page I tried...   Hi, Can somebody tell me how to rename the DB server instance name and a DB name in SQL Server 2005? Right Now I Have SERVER/OLDNAME -- oldnameDB I want to change the server instance and also change the db name. I have tried: EXEC sp_renamedb 'oldName', 'newName' and that has changed the dbname as it appers in the tree directory. But, when I do "select @@servername" it is the old name. Also, the MDF and LDF files are still the old name. How do change instance and db names as a clean sweep across the server? Thanks.
