• ASP.net hiding panel using javascript

  Hi, I have a radioButtonList with 2 items in it. A radiobutton with a "Yes" value and a radionButton with a "No" value. Below that I have a panel which I want made visible when "Yes" radioButton is selected and hidden when "No" is selected. I had originally implemented this using the AutoPostBack attribute but I want to do it in Javascript so that it doesn't cause a postback. Here's the code.   hi, is anybody familiar with greyBox JavaScript plugin? orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/ it's for slideshows and stuff.. I can't get it to work in FF/Safari; it works great in IE, but FF/Safari won't play ball.. orensanz.org/photos.html would very much appreciate some suggestions.. supposedly there's a google group (forum) for this thing (can't post url.. this thing limits how many urls u can include in a post, it's linked to from their home pg (url above.. oh brother..) but when you link to it you land on a pg that says they've been booted out b/c they violated google's terms of service....;-) thank you..

  I need to replace some text that is on the page within the body tag. I am using javascript but have jquery available if needed. I basically need to replace test® (test with the registered trademark) with TEST® or tests® with TESTS® and it could even be test with TEST® or tests with TESTS®. I am able to uppercase them but its not liking to work for me with the ® sign, it wants to put duplicates on ones that already have it. Basically anything on the page that has the word test or tests should be TEST® or TESTS® if it is plural. Any help is appreciated.

• Styled Javascript Popup that Conncects to Database

  I want to create a javascript popup box that contains text fields. I want to be able to style this box - using CSS - and I want the textfield entries to be Inserted into a MySQL database. Is this possible? I would be familiar with doing this through web forms and server side scripting but I need it to be a bit more client side this time to make things seem a bit faster. • Drupal removing javascript from Full HTML link

  I am new to Drupal and am trying to create a node (let's call it child) that will only really be accessed when clicked on from another node (we'll call it parent). When closing the child window, I want to parent window to refresh. Outside of Drupal, that's easy: <a onclick="window.close(); window.opener.location.reload();" href="#">Click to close this window</a> However, when I type this into the body of a node using Full HTML, it still strips the onclick text from my post. How can I include javascript in the body of a node like this? Is there a special module I need. Thanks!

• Javascript function programming — receiving elaborate parameters

  I'm writing a Javascript function that would manipulate an array written on-the-fly and sent as a parameter. The function is written as follows: function returnJourney(animation,clean){ var properties = {}; // loads of other inane stuff for(i in animation[0]) properties[animation[0][i]] = animation[0].i; // heaps more inane stuff } The animation in question is a set of parameters for a jQuery animation. Typically it takes the format of ({key:value,key:value},speedAsInteger,modifierAsString). So to kick off initial debugging I call it with: returnJouney(({'foo':'bar'},3000),1); And straight off the bat things are way off. As far as I see it this would have returnJourney acknowledge clean === 1, and animation being an array with an object as its first child and the number 3000 as its second. Firebug tells me animation evaluates as the number 3000. What am I doing wrong?

  Hi this is driving me nuts. I believe I asked this exact same question but I can't find it anymore(I used stackoverflow search, google search, manually searched my posts, searched my code). I wanted something that would be like the C# String.Format where you could do something like string format = String.Format("Hi {0}",name); just for javascript of course and one person gave me a simple answer it was not like a jquery plugin or anything but I think you made some json thing or something and it worked and was simple to use. I for the life of me can't find this post.

  In code-behind I can do this to select something: // Select item in first DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_1.SelectedValue = itemValue_1+":::"+itemText_1; // Select item in second DropDownList myCascadingDropDown_2.SelectedValue = itemValue_2+":::"+itemText_2; How can I do this in JavaScript? (I'm aware, that I could search the list and set the selectedIndex property for each dropdown, but I have many items and i'm very lazy.) EDIT: npups answer works: I can select my desired item in the first dropdownlist. The problem is however, that new values based on that selected item (it is a CascadingDropDown, remember?) don't show in the second dropdown so I can't select anything there. I would need to somehow invoke the update method of the second dropdown manually: any suggestions?

• Add another class to a div with javascript

  I have a function that checks the age of a form submission and then returns new content in a div depending on their age. right now I am just using getElementById to replace the html content. BUt I think would work better for me if I could also add a class to a div as well. So for example I have.. if (under certain age) { document.getElementById('hello').innerHTML = "<p>Good Bye</p>"; createCookie('age','not13',0) return false; } else { document.getElementById('hello').innerHTML = "<p>Hello</p>"; return true; } What I would like to do is have everything in a div and if return false then that div disappears and is replaced with other content.. can I get any ideas on a good way to achieve this with pure javascript. I dont want to use jQuery for this particular function.

  I am trying to print an integer in Javascript with commas as thousands separators. For example, I want to show the number 1234567 as "1,234,567". How would I go about doing this? Here is how I am doing it: function numberWithCommas(x) { x = x.toString(); var pattern = /(-?\d+)(\d{3})/; while (pattern.test(x)) x = x.replace(pattern, "$1,$2"); return x; } I am wondering if anyone has a simpler or more elegant idea. It would be nice if it works with floats also, but that is not necessary. It does not need to be locale-specific to decide between periods and commas.

But if string is defined directly in the index.html, then it is not a problem. Can anyone suggest a solution on how to keep the text in the separate .js file?

  I have a Javascript question that I am curious about. When using: var test = document.links(arrayNum).name; Is it possible to dig deeper into specifying links? For instance, if there is just a group of links from within a div with an id that you would like to target as opposed to all the links on the page could you write something like: var test = document.getElementById('divId').links(arrayNum).name; Or could I add a class to the statement to target only the links associated with it? var test = document.links.className(arrayNum).name; Is anything like this feasible?

Say I have a link on my site, I want the user to be able to mouse over the link, and have an image pop up that shows what the target of the link looks like. Don't worry about the css, I got that working, I just need the actual script to show the image. Currently I am doing it by showing up an iframe that actually renders the page, but this is not scalable and looks ugly.   I know very well that null and undefined are distinct in JavaScript. However, I can't seem to decide whether or not use that fact when my own functions are passed one of those as its argument. Or, expressed in a different way, should myFoo(undefined) return the same thing as myFoo(null) or is everything fine if it doesn't? Or, in yet another case, since myBar(1, 2, 3) is the same thing as myBar(1, 2, 3, undefined, undefined), should myBar(1, 2, 3, null, null) return the same thing as myBar(1, 2, 3)? I feel that there's potential for confusion in both cases and that a library should probably follow a convention when handling null/undefined. I'm not really asking for personal opinions (so please express those as comments rather than answers). I'm asking if anyone knows if there is a best practice that one should stick to when it comes to handling this distinction. References to external sources are very welcome!

I have an array named expression chunk[0] = 12 chunk[1] = + (the "+" sign) chunk[1] = 5 I used a for loop to loop through the chunks (chunk[]) and join then into a single expression as follows:- equation = ""; // To make var equation a string for(i = 0; i <= length; i++) { equation = equation + expression[i]; alert(expression[i]); } alert(equation); alert(expression[i]) showed values 12, + and 5. But alert(equation) showed 125 (instead of "12+5"). I need the variable equation to be "12+5" so that I can later call eval(equation) and get the value of 12+5. What am I doing wrong here?
